Mixed martial arts is a combination of all martial arts that do not use weapons. In Poland, the most popular federation organizing MMA competitions is KSW, i.e. an organization called Confrontation of Martial Arts, established in 2004. Initially, only professional-fighters fought against each other, but in the last few years Freak-Fight fights are becoming more and more popular, i.e. fights in which fight celebrities who have a large number of fans.
An example of this is Fame MMA and FFF. Both of these organizations have very good pay-per-view results, often even better than those on which the professional-fighters fight.
When the first freak-fights in Poland appeared, people had mixed feelings, there were a lot of negative comments suggesting that people not connected with combat sports should not participate in such fights. Of course, this also met with a negative opinion of the professional-fighters who were outraged that they trained for many years and still earn less than people who cannot fight but are popular.
The first Polish freak-fight was the fight between Mariusz Pudzianowski and Marcin Najman.
That was in 2009, Mariusz Pudzianowski won in 44 seconds.
There are more and more often freak-fights organized in the world because they attract the biggest audience. For example, in 2018 there was a fight between two very popular influencers, KSI versus Logan Paul. This event had very good results in pay-per-view sales because both of the competitors had a big fanbase.
Of course, there are also many professional-fighters who make a lot of money because people love their fighting style.
Often such players also take part in show fights, in which there is no trophy to win. Thanks to great interest they are able to earn good money. The last of such fights was the fight of Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor. This fight took place in August 2017, both players earned tens of millions of dollars.

Figthing styled evloved from UFC, mixed to be perfect in many cases. I like watching some fights of various styles, some are better then others and this one surely is on the top.
2. Have you ever watched an MMA fight? Or maybe you had a chance to see such a fight live?
Yes, I watched a few professional fights before the pay-per-view was developed. After that only some fights that where part of a meme or Pudzianowski-Popek fight.
3. What do you think about fright-fights? Is it good for the MMA world?
I believe it can have its place in the world, but I also see why many people that fight as professionals have problem with it. Do you imagine something like this with football? Let say politic factions playing against one another? Or celebrities ski jumping? It sounds funny but weird at the same time. But somehow in case of MMA not everyone gives a damn about that. In my opinion it is not bad but it's not good for MMA world. Especially from one point it makes stupid people famous by this medium.
I'm pacifist so it means that I oppose to every type of aggression. I understand that MMA is a sport and it's a way that people can express their feelings during watchful eye of professional trainers. In my opinion it's a better way to achieve a peace of mind than for example devastate public goods. But on the other hand there are a lot of activities which may reduce stress and level of aggression like crosswords or knitting.
2. Have you ever watched an MMA fight? Or maybe you had a chance to see such a fight live?
I've never participating in MMA's events, and they are not attractive for me. But I've seen one of Poland's freak fights in MMA. It was a combat between some disco-polo sing-star and one of Instagram's influencer. For me, it was pathetic to see such a sorrowful performance. I have no idea did they have got some issue between each other or maybe it was just for publicity but it was disgusting. Adult who are mature can resolve their problem with peace by communication in privacy.
3. What do you think about fright-fights? Is it good for the MMA world?
I wrote above about only show I've ever seen in MMA. In my opinion, fright-fights are offending for professional sportsman. They sacrificed a lot of time, tears and sweat to achieve some goals in sport and finally it turns out that their effort was for nothing because people prefer to watch drama in TV than sport.
MMA is one of the martial arts. Personally, I love boxing, I think it's a much more demanding combat sport. Boxing requires technique, stamina, good strategy and an amazing psyche. I think MMA is a sport that attracts young people because there are no rules in it. All holds are allowed. Virtually all fights are very dynamic, unlike boxing. MMA in Poland is developing incredibly well, it is probably one of the most popular sports in Poland, next to football.
2. Have you ever watched an MMA fight? Or maybe you had a chance to see such a fight live?
Of course, I watch the events organized by KSW all the time. Due to the lack of a decent hall in Warsaw, martial arts gala events are not often organized here. However, I had the opportunity to see the event live - it was KSW 39 "Colosseum" organized at the National Stadium. There was an amazing atmosphere at this event, but MMA is a poor sport to watch live. It's much better to watch it on TV, because you can see the details in the close-up.
3. What do you think about fright-fights? Is it good for the MMA world?
The goal of celebrity fights is simply to popularize this type of sport. It must be said that the fight of Najman - Pudzianowski initiated the development of MMA in Poland. If it had not been for this fight, nobody would be talking about KSW today. However, there should not be too many such fights. Celebrities entering the ring / octagon get a lot of money, often more than the best figthers - this greatly spoils the world MMA.
Maybe I am not the biggest fan of MMA, but I like to watch it from time to time. When it comes to watching sport, I choose football, but I think martial arts are exciting too. Fighters have to be really strong, both physically and mentally, so I think it is very demanding kind of sport. Some time ago I was thinking about start training some kind of martial arts, for example boxing, but due to health problems I put it off.
Have you ever watched an MMA fight? Or maybe you had a chance to see such a fight live?
Yes, I have watched one or two KSW galas. I have never had a chance to see live fight, but I hope one day I will have an occasion. I can only imagine that, but when I think about emotions during football match, I think that you can't compare feelings in front of the tv and when you are watching live fight.
What do you think about fright-fights? Is it good for the MMA world?
I think that these days it is not really surprising that people want to watch some celebrities or real fighters in a freak fights. Ubiquitous commercialization of sport established a lot of opportunities to make money on famous people. Of course freak fights aren't that bad, because they help to promote MMA and provide entertainment. Freak fights could be also used to spread good, for example ticket incomes could be given away for charity. Football is a good example for that, there are a lot of charity matches that are used to help poor people or animals.
Yes i like it. I think this is interesting sport to watch. There is a lot of emotions and in every second you can expect plot twist. It also give you a lot of adventages when you train it. For example you can work about your discipline and you can be more physically fit (it helps a lot if you need to lose weight).
2. Have you ever watched an MMA fight? Or maybe you had a chance to see such a fight live?
I didn't have possibility to take part in such a event yet. I want to go on UFC if it will be in Poland with Jan Błachowicz on main event fight. Anyway i saw a lot of times fights on the internet. Every weekend at late hours you can watch UFC and from time to time there is KSW or freak fights like FAME MMA.
3. What do you think about fright-fights? Is it good for the MMA world?
I think you wanted to ask about freak fights. In my opinion it is good for MMA world. You can see that on Fame MMA example. Their first event was a parody for this discipline but after few months participants changed their life's e.g. Linkiewicz or Malczyński. At the end all the time skills level is groving and you can see so big progress. It is also popularize sport in huge audience which is good in nowadays.
I don't really like MMA. But I guess it's in human nature that people want to fight a little. Well... A little might be a wrong word for that as they are capable of doing weird things during fights. But yeah... What i meant is its popularity is high, people like to fight and watch others fight. I might not be getting it but for sure some are passionate about it
2. Have you ever watched an MMA fight? Or maybe you had a chance to see such a fight live?
I've seen some fights as friends like to watch it. But i've never seen a real MMA fight live. Also i think i don't really want to
3. What do you think about fright-fights? Is it good for the MMA world?
Honestly it's a great thing when it comes for gathering money. Also when some "famous" youtube guys are fighting it's more pathetic, sorry to say that. They train for some months not to embarass themselves on the ring. Yet if some1 doesn't like particular fameous person - there is a chance he could see him getting beaten up. I think it makes the event itself even bigger as not only people that are passionate about fights watch it but also people that dislike participators.
2. As I mentioned in the point above, I'm not a MMA fan, but it happen for me to watch one or two fights during a gala. The big disadvantage of these galas is the ‘show’ and breaks between fights, which take more time than the sport itself, which makes MMA boring to me.
3. Freak-fights is nothing more than a kind of marketing. Sports gala owners have noticed that non-sports fights attract more people than sports events. Thanks to this procedure, more and more people watch MMA, which translates into the development of sport. Advantages only.
@Daniel Trzaskoma Is boxing your favorite formula related to combat sports? I also like boxing very much but my favorite formula is BJJ - Brazilian jiujitsu. Thank you for your answer.
@Przemysław Baka between which two celebrities would you like to see the fight in the MMA formula the most?
@Przemysław Witek Thank you for your answer, I like your opinion, I am also waiting for UFC in Poland. It was in Gdansk a few years ago
@ Paweł Bluszcz s20080 thank you for reply!
2. I've watched a lot of mma fights and they are always very exciting. It is interesting to be able to see fighters who specialize in different fighting techniques. I had the opportunity to watch MMA fights live once, but the fighters were not the best and fought carefully.
3. I find fright-fights to be useful and, more importantly, as exciting as professional fights. Fright-fights attract new viewers and are often more interesting than fights of professional fighters because they make funny moves and they are driven mostly by instincts instead of skill. Thanks to fright-fights, more people watch MMA so that pros can earn more money and people have more opportunities to watch people fight and enjoy it.
I think every sport is special. MMA is no different. Even though watching people fight is often brutal, one can find artistry in it. To me, martial arts are a very interesting branch of sports, one of the oldest and I find it interesting to watch people do what they love. So yes I would say I like it.
2. Have you ever watched an MMA fight? Or maybe you had a chance to see such a fight live?
Recently, I had an occasion to watch last KSW and I have to admit that it was very interesting to watch. I remember that most of the fights ended quite quickly, but some of them lasted all three rounds. I remember that one of the fights, the one between Torres and Coga, was really exciting since both of them were good fighters with very different skills. I've never had a chance to see such fight live though.
3. What do you think about fright-fights? Is it good for the MMA world?
I think in most cases they are just stupid. Most of these fights are about these "celebristies" who are not very interesting for me. There is not much fighting during these fights, mostly these events are about showing off and are boring.
I think it's pretty fun to watch. In my opinion this sport is very interesting to watch because it has a lot of action.
Have you ever watched an MMA fight? Or maybe you had a chance to see such a fight live?
Yes, I have. I watched KSW a couple of times.
What do you think about fright-fights? Is it good for the MMA world?
Yeah, sure. It's raising awereness of this discipline. Also it's hillarious to watch, great amusement. The best fight I remember was Fame MMA when there was fight between Daniel Magical and Rafonix. 😂
2. No, I haven't watched MMA fights either on TV or live. I don't like this type of fights and I'm not interested in them.
3. Honestly, I have no idea, but I think it's mostly business. And business is there to make money.
I think it is sport like many others. To be honest I am a man who grew up on box rather than mma. I prefer to watch it rather than take part in real life. I used to train box but my knees are really weak, so I shouldn't try to kick in sport. That's why I don't play football. I like to watch it, it is really interesting how different ways are to give up a fight. I like when they finish fights by special techniques.
2. Have you ever watched an MMA fight? Or maybe you had a chance to see such a fight live?
As I said in the first question, I have watched MMA many times. I like it a lot, but I am not such a big fan to watch it live. I suspect that emotions are really high on this events, but I have never had any occasion to see it.
3. What do you think about fright-fights? Is it good for the MMA world?
I think it is nor good nor bad. We have to make a line between those two kinds of fights. Firstly there is nothing wrong with this fights if people have pleasure to watch it. Last time it is very popular to see some fights like this. I am not a fan of this kind of events, because I watch MMA to see some spectacular skills. I am not interested in watching two amateurs fighting between each other just because they are famous in some areas.
2. I like watching MMA in my opinion it is a very exciting sport. I always watch fame mma with my friends but I have never seen any live fight.
3. A lot of people who are not interested in any fights watch them. There is no sport level there but I don't think it will hurt the mma world.
