4 tips that your health will benefit from


In this article, I will try to give you 4 examples of what you could do to make you healthier without doing a 180 degree turn at the same time. I based these recommendations on my personal observations of what people often forget about during their daily routine.

Drink more water

Lots of people forget about drinking water during the day. It happens usually when we are focused on doing something and we don’t think about it. It is said that we should drink about 2 liters of fluids daily, but it is simply better to look at… your urine. I know it might not sound tasty at all, but the clearer your urine is, the more hydrated you are.

Relax your eyes

Many of you - especially while having to work and learn online - spend numerous hours in front of the screen. If you do, try to relax your eyes every 1 hour by taking a look at something a bit further away. The best would be some green scenery, so you can relax on your balcony, watch the grass grow and at the same time take a breath of some fresh air.

Eat healthier

It does not necessarily mean that you have to have a strict diet. The first thing to remember is to not skip any of the meals during the day. Being in a hurry, you can forget about having dinner which results in for example lower concentration and higher probability of snacking sweets. Also, try to increase the diversity of products in the meals that you eat, because each one has different macronutrients. Don’t eat pills with the vitamins - eating quality meals is usually enough.

Do some exercise

Regular exercises can improve your sleep quality, make you happier, and improve the overall state of your body. You don’t have to go to the gym (actually, now you even can’t!) or run marathons: it is enough to do some short exercises in your free time. Find 15 minutes each two days and make it a habit. You can do push-ups, stretching, yoga, and much more. If you don’t have any experience, try “follow along” YouTube videos like the one I link you to:

Conclusions

I hope you can benefit from this article and learn something new. These days we often try to do as much as possible as quickly as possible, but we forget about the drawbacks of living like that. We have one health and we shall respect it. Remember that prevention is better than cure!

At the begining of pandemia I was very strict with plank exercise, even made some nice personal record of 4 minutes, but after some illness i stopped. Now I try to play some VR once in a while and suprsingly it's really working.

Counting pjatk, work and sometimes playing games a spent propably something around 15 hours a day. Yes my eyes hurt that's why i try to make some short brakes if I remember about them and I use eye drops.

Spend more time with nature without your phone. We are overwhelmed by information. Learning how to stay away from it may be hard but is really rewarding. During holidays I like to go camping and only use my phone to call others when I can't find them. The rest is blocked so I can free my mind.

That's a good piece of advice. I also try to reduce my phone usage when I am on holiday. It really makes me feel less stressed and irritated because I don't have to constantly react when my phone vibrates. I think it's hard to do it during a week, but during weekends or, as I mentioned, holidays it's for sure possible. Another thing I recommend is turning off the internet. If there is something important - a person will probably make a call to you anyway. You are not completely cut off the world, but you still benefit ;)

Yes, I did exercises before the pandemic and I do them even during this sad circumstances. The pandemic made me to change my habits but just a little. I used to run outside a few time per week but running in the mask is tiring. So, I was made to change my habits for treadmill. To be honest, it's not the same for me. Running without changing landscape is dull. Additionally, I do more frequently yoga. I recommend it to everybody in this strange "online" world. It's a great opportunity for our back to rest!

2. How many hours do you spend in front of the screen during a day? Do you suffer from eye strain when you do it too long?

Hmm it's hard to say but probably about 10-12 hours. Studying and working online require spending a whole amount of time in front of screens. I do not suffer because I care about rests every 2 hours.

3. Do you have any other tips of how one could easily improve his health?

I can recommend yoga again. It reduces stress in our bodies, our spines and muscles may stretch and it let us in good condition. Yoga is a good choice not only for our bodies but our brains also! It allows calm thoughts and can teach us how to keep peace of mind in stressful situation.

Yes, I try to do some sport a few times a week. Usually, it is yoga by video on YouTube now. Before the pandemic, I used to go to the swimming pool. And I am looking forward to resuming swimming training.

I do not know the number, but exactly I spend more hours in front of the screen than it should be. But as I have myopia, I do gymnastic for eyes once or even a few times a day. There are a lot of exercises for the eyes on the internet. It helps me to keep my sight on the same level and not to strain my eyes a lot.

Get enough sleep. I think it is the main tip to improve health. Healthy sleep is necessary for a person and is important for physical and mental health. Also, it is a good habit to ventilate the room regularly.

Yes, thanks to the pandemic - he works and studies remotely. Thanks to this, I have much more time for myself, because I do not have to travel to the office or university. By saving time for commuting, I have more time for training. Since the pandemic began, I train more. I run, I made my own gym in the garage. I treats sport exceptionally during a pandemic, training is the most important part of the day for me.

Damn a lot, it'll be from 8 to 12 hours a day. However, I take care of my eyesight with moisturizing drops. Additionally, I take regular breaks from the screen to let my eyesight and brain rest. My actions turn out to be effective because I do not feel tired.

3.Do you have any other tips of how one could easily improve his health?

First of all, each of us who works sitting down should try to do a lot of sport. Sport allows you to balance your scientific effort with your sporting effort. Additionally, we should avoid stress, we live longer without stress. I agree with your rules, which you presented in the article, I can say one thing - it works!

Hi!
Yes and yes. I try to exercise regularly and change the exercises from time to time. Before the pandemic, I've got a chance to try Muay Thai which I really enjoyed but unfortunately, I think it wouldn't be reasonable to do it during COVID.

I think that I've trained my eye to be in front of the screens since I was a kid :).
I don't have a problem with eye strain, and I'm not able to precisely estimate how many hours I spent in front of the screen.

Do you have any other tips of how one could easily improve his health?

Sleep is crucial which has been highlighted many times during our English lessons :). Some mindfulness practice is great as well - it helps with stress management which greatly improves well-being.

Due to pandemic and the fact that all the gyms are closes. I found the alternative in jogging and practising at home. I start a day with a little stretching just to get muscle flex. Just after lunch I have some short exercises like push-ups and crunches. I even bought a weight to take care of my biceps as well.

It is hard to say how many hours but definitely too much, especially that now we do not leave home much. If I have to guess then I would say 8 hours per day. I know it is not very healthy but suprisingly I do not suffer from eye strain. I always take care for good light. Looking at a screen in the dark is a very bad habit. I also try to have a break from time to time.

3.Do you have any other tips of how one could easily improve his health?
You already gave plenty of good tips for health so maybe let me for a change focus on mental health. Beside everything what was mentioned here we should also remember to satisfy our social needs. We should not meet people now but it does not mean we should stop socialising. Call friends from time to time just for a talk about everyday life. Turn of the computer to ask parents how wos their day. Use communicators and other platforms like discord, skype etc. Take care about relations with people, because if you do not feel good within, you will not feel good anywhere.
I realize that before lockdown, I had little care for exercises.
Probably, it was due to a strict schedule. As I took a semester off before starting graduate studies, more time became available.
With just remote work and cozy, countryside location, I could finally start working on myself more.
Now, I continue with the exercises, but due to the remote nature of everything, I can squeeze them into current schedule just fine.

The university and work require me to stay around 10-12 hours a day, with the computer on.
Thankfully, my work is flexible enough so I can take convenient breaks or work off screen.
During those long sessions, should my eyes ever get tired, I treat them with eye drops.
I hope to further reduce my work hours anyway, at least for a time until graduation.

My advice would be to stop racing towards many goals and instead, meditate and relax.
I believe that in order to accomplish great things, the sacrifice must be made, but it needs to be thoughtful.
Also, my time in the countryside, made me appreciate how natural environment can inspire and fill with joy.
@Milena Dziełakowska, it is not only you from whom I have heard a recommendation about yoga. It's interesting, that people practice it for various reasons. You already mentioned three things I heard about: streching, becoming calm and helping our back. One of my friends told me, that she practices it in more buddist way, so that she can feel how the energy flows in her body. That's for sure amazing and I think there will be the day on which I'll try it.

@Anastasiia Bida, you are right, that I should have also mentioned sleeping in an article. I think people don't realize how important it is to get enough sleep. One thing I do different than others is sleeping well although I have much to do. Some people stay up for 20 hours to finish something on time and I do the opposite - I sleep 8 hours all the time and I can honestly say that I do everything on time just because I can concentrate better and work faster if I got enough sleep.
@Daniel Trzaskoma thanks for your comment. Now I am jealous, that I am not living in a house and I don't have a garage :( I had to build a gym in my room, but I feel it is not that bad. I have a bench, dumbbells, some power bands and few other things dedicated more to physiotherapy. I only miss the climate that gyms have.

1. It so happens. I exercise a lot more and have been on a diet lately. So far I'm doing well, I've lost 10 kilos :) Of course, 10 kilos has a slightly different weight for someone who is almost 2 meters and for someone who is 1.7 meters tall. As long as it has not harmed you in any harmful way, this is a good time to rethink a few things in your own life and implement the appropriate actions.

2. Unfortunately, I spend a lot :( sometimes 5, sometimes even 14 hours. I have been suffering from allergic conjunctivitis for a long time. I often put various eye drops in. It gets worse in autumn, when the air outside is cold and dry and indoors warm and dry These types of sudden changes do not help people with sick eyes.

3. It seems to me that apart from physical activity and diet I can recommend a little. I can only point out that you need to choose the right exercises and diet. You mustn't force yourself to do anything too much
@FilipJatelnicki, haha, it seems that many of us got used to sitting long in front of the screens since young age, so we are safe :)
@Bui Ky Anh, the thing you mentioned in answer for the 3rd question is very important. We, as humans, are used to living in groups and we for sure have to socialise. Some people require more of it, some less, but anyway we need to talk with somebody from time to time. For me, it is enough that I meet just few of my friends from time to time and visit my close family once a month, but I know people who can't stand not seeing somebody even for few hours.

I think that in this situation we realized many things. For me it was that we were losing time for traveling home <-> work <-> university. At least we had a gym next to the university, because I would need another stop! It took me about 15 minutes for each such transport (which is still not much, because there are people who drive 1 hour in one direction), but together with putting clothes on and off, it was one hour per day. If you can motivate yourself to work from home it is much better, in my opinion. You already wrote about these positives, so I won't repeat you :)

I agree that choosing correct excercises is crucial to stay healthy. You don't have to lift weights twice as your weight. Most of the people should do exercises that will improve their overall body condition, some streching and cardio. Doing too hard exercises can result in injuries and exclusion from the trainings for many months.

Mainly road bike riding currently and some form of simple exercises at home. Earlier I also did running.

I work remotely as a developer so at least 8, plus some online lectures plus doing homework plus using it as a means of entertainment, then at some days it might reach almost 14 hours. Fortunately I don't suffer from eye strain, using red light filters helps a bit.

3.
Apart from those excelent tips provided I would add to always get 8 hours of sleep and try to go to bed and wake up at the same time everday.

No, I don't. I know I should exercise, but I can't think of any sport that I enjoy, besides e-sport, which is not healthy at all.

Because of working and studying remotely (like most of us right now) and being a gamer I spend most of my time in front of my computer (at least when I'm not sleeping). I think that's about 16 hours a day. I don't suffer from any health problems caused by sitting lifestyle, at least for now.

In my opinions one of the most important things is having good sleeping schedule. When we don't sleep enough we can suffer from a lot of health problems.
Interestin presentation. Answering your questions:

1. Honestly, no. I am not exercising and have hardly changed any habits during the pandemic. I started to eat less so as not to gain weight.
However, I am very concerned about the lack of exercise, which in my case is very limited.

2. I work and study. Both activities are performed remotely. So I spend about 12 hours a day in front of the screen, and of course I take breaks. Do I have any complaints because of this? I do not have. I feel good and nothing hurts, I do not have eye strain.

3. I think a lot of exercise and a healthy diet - these are certainly important and valuable tips to improve your health and condition.

Before the pandemic, I exercised a lot. Unfortunately, during a pandemic, I hardly exercise at all. I hope that after the pandemic I will return the desire and motivation to exercise

I usually spend too much time in front of the screen. I am working as a developer so I spent 8 hours daily in front of the screen.

I can recommend drinking at least 1.5l of water every day. It really helped me to feel better during the day
