Week 5 [23.11-29.11] How to cope with anxiety?

How to cope with anxiety?

Anxiety disorder is a very common condition that affects 1 in 14 people. Coping badly with this problem, or avoid taking action, can lead to serious mental health conditions such as depression and much more. It’s especially important to be able to distinguish between the anxiety that accompanies us in stressful situations and the disease.

Questions:

  1. Do you know someone with an anxiety disorder? How is it manifested? If not tell us, how did you deal with your minor or major anxiety?
  2. Do you think it's worth a risk? Have you made any bold decisions recently?
  3. Which strategy for coping with anxiety presented in the video do you think is the most effective? Making decisions firmly, forgiving yourself or doing something with others in mind?

1. Well. There are many types of anxiety disorders. I do not fully understand what types of anxiety this TED relates to. Anxiety in total or any particular form? Each case requires different remedial measures. Sometimes therapy is important, sometimes medication, and sometimes anxiety can be caused by a disease such as IBS. I've been feeling a little worse lately. I suspected that my mental malaise could be related to problems with the digestive system. It turned out that IBS or other gastrointestinal diseases can have psychological symptoms. A very large number of neurotransmitters are produced in the intestines. I have been on the FODMAP diet for almost 3 weeks and I do not believe how much effect it gave me in terms of my well-being. I can actually eat very few types of food, but I think it's worth it. The FODMAP diet lasts 6-8 weeks and then you gradually return to your normal products. So my advice is: if everything in your life is in order and you still feel bad, think about whether it is the fault of something you eat. I am not saying that this is the cause of all problems, but maybe some food is harmful to you and you should consider which one. Food intolerances, which are much more difficult to detect than food allergies, can produce these symptoms.

2. I don't think I fully understand this question. But I will answer as I think. I think whether it is worth taking any risks depends on the circumstances and our personality. Some people don't like risks, so they shouldn't take it. Unless the question is about risk-taking in the context of fighting anxiety. Exposing to anxiety triggers should be done slowly and carefully.

3. I think many strategies can be good, but the one that will be most effective depends on our personality, problem, and type of anxiety disorder. I think each case should be consulted with someone who will know how to guide us through our problem towards a solution. We can hurt ourselves even more if we don't know what we're up against.
@Maciej Antonik

Thank you for this extensive comment. I am incredibly intrigued with how the change in diet has affected your well-being. I myself noticed that for a week eating only junk food without vitamins, I felt bored and had no energy for intellectual work. We become what we eat.

The question about taking risks is that it's a good step to start dealing with your fears and getting out of your comfort zone. I understand your way of thinking and partially agree, but the presenter in the film urges people to take risks as a method of fighting anxiety.

"We can hurt ourselves even more if we don't know what we're up against." - these are very important words that I support.

1. Do you know someone with an anxiety disorder? How is it manifested? If not tell us, how did you deal with your minor or major anxiety?
I am not sure if my friends have an anxiety disorder. Even if they do they are probably to shy to talk about it. Maybe because the society we live in does not encourage us to talk about how we will, every mental issue wiwthin us is described as weakness. I am personally a person who has goals in life set and focus on it very much. It motivates me to hard work and constantly reminds me about what I want to achieve right here, right now. I also love self development, when I notice something in myself that can be improved I am willing to focus on that even if it is a long time process.

2. Do you think it's worth a risk? Have you made any bold decisions recently?
I believe that taking risks and going out from our comfort zone is very important. It teaches us how to adapt to new things and new environments which is a very important thing in order to thrive in 21's century. I did not make any bold decisions recently but I am not afraid to. In worst case I will make a mistake but mistake is still a thing from which I can learn something new.

3. Which strategy for coping with anxiety presented in the video do you think is the most effective? Making decisions firmly, forgiving yourself or doing something with others in mind?
I think that the most important strategy among all of them is a capability to forgive ourselves. If you can do it, then you are not afraid to make mistakes, therefore you always try and never stop growing.
@Bui Ky Anh

You are right that "the society we live in does not encourage us to talk about how we will, every mental issue wiwthin us is described as weakness". However, I would like to point out that we live in a time when more and more talk about these problems and we are more and more aware. Congratulations on your persistence in pursuing your goal. This is a beautiful trait and is becoming rarer in a lazy society. We have such advanced technology and access to knowledge at all times and society is less and less ambitious.

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...
