Week 10 [16.12 - 22.12.2019] - The evolution of the automotive industry

The history of combustion cars begins in 1885 when Carl Benz built the first car with a three-wheeled car with a combustion engine. Initially, the cars were powered mainly by gasoline, In 1897 Rudolf Diesel constructed a compression-ignition engine that was initially very unreliable. It wasn't until the end of the 19th century that cars were accepted as an alternative means of transport for the horse. Since then, the evolution of cars has progressed very quickly. We can point out a lot of great cars that we can currently say are automotive icons. Such a car is, for example, the Porsche 911 whose premiere took place in 1963. Do you also see a reference to the classic 911 in modern models?

In 1984, the Ferrari Testarossa debuted with a V12 engine. Soon afterwards, BMW cars in the sport versions marked with the letter M appeared on the market. In 2005, the M5 v10 with the power of 507 km a year later Audi R8. Going back a bit, it is impossible to mention 1993 when the European Union sets the Euro1 emission standard. Since then, with the development of the automotive industry, emission standards have become increasingly stringent. This forces car manufacturers to adapt to stringent standards. Manufacturers are starting to reduce the capacity of cars and generate more power from low-volume engines thanks to turbo. This is also reflected in super cars. The production of Hybrid cars begins in 1997 when Toyota begins to produce the Prius model. Sales of Prius to Poland began only in 2004. As I personally am not a hybrid fan, I will add that from 2004 to 2014 only 1000 copies were sold.

Currently, the hybrid car market in Poland has developed significantly. The development of artificial intelligence also significantly affected the automotive industry. In modern cars we have many systems that support the driver, care for our safety and other traffic participants. One of such systems is certainly the auto pilot which is available in Tesla cars. Another great solution is certainly the adaptive cruise control that adjusts the speed to the vehicle ahead and maintains a safe distance. But don't you think the system exempt you too much from thinking?

1.What do you think about driver assistance systems?
2.How do you assess the impact of environmentalists on modern motoring?

I think it's helpful for now but if government will want to have data from assistance systems to check for example how fast we were going or if we had suspicious behaviour it would be kinda scary. Well When it comes to enviroment I think that it is harmfull but not as harmfull as other things, but of course we should try to swap our diesel or petrol cars for electric ones. My dream super car? I don't have one. For now I can drive anything because I'm more of a motorcycle person but I like the design of Tesla, it's the only company that has different cars than anyone else. When we look on BMW, Audi, Mercedes and so on, their cars are all almost the same.

1.What do you think about driver assistance systems?
It certainly helps us in some situations. I am not sure what it looks like in the case of older people, used to operating very simple cars, but in the case of young people who have just passed their driving license, driver assistance may prove irreplaceable.

2.How do you assess the impact of environmentalists on modern motoring?
They are trying to relieve our ecosystem more and more. I am very pleased with the solutions offered by electric cars. Waiting for the moment of water-powered cars, and if they could still filter the water it would be great. However, fuel suppliers will probably never allow this.

3.What is your dream super car?
Unfortunately, I don't have my dream car model. However, I am sure that if I could choose any car, it would probably be Mercedes or BMW.

1.What do you think about driver assistance systems?
I think that it's something that is consider as a standard feature in almost every newly produced cars. It might be really useful on occasions and can help you out in some dangerous situations whenever riding in a bad weather or road conditions.

2.How do you assess the impact of environmentalists on modern motoring?
I think that right now any solutions provided or implemented are not reasonable for use in most of the countries as they are not adapted to them yet ( lack of power stations etc. ). But in the future once the infrastructure is ready and either hybrids or electric cars will often more reasonable solutions then it might be our future.

3.What is your dream super car?
Ford Mustang :)

1. Well, it's a standard in today's cars. It helps begining drivers to learn and increases driving safety in dangerous situations.

2. I think it's good that there are more and more electric cars. Air condition is quite bad nowadays especially in winter so we have to catch every solution to make it better. Otherwise we will end up wrong.

3. My dream car is the Audi A5 or A7 Sportback.
1. What do you think about driver assistance systems?

I am very pleased with their development. I think that any such system improves the safety of every traffic participant.

2. How do you assess the impact of environmentalists on modern motoring?

The transition to more ecological solutions, looking at the current condition of our planet, seems inevitable. I think that in the future you will only be able to find combustion cars on special tracks.

3. What is your dream super car?

I'm a supporter of autonomous car development and this is my dream car. The car is just a tool for me to move around and it would be fun to just get in, pick a destination and not worry about anything else.
1. I love them, i can't wait to buy myself a self driving car in a future.
2. Some say that they are killing real engines but to be honest i'm perfectly fine with 1.4 turbo which consumes like 5.5l/100km. I can only thank them for making motor companies produce cars that are more economic.
3. I've always had something for Ferrari since Michael Schumacher had driven in it in F1, but to be more realistic I would choose something like new Volvo s60 or Audi S8, I know, two totally different segments but those would be my dream ones.
1. I believe that this is future of civil transportation, imagine thousands of cars driving automatically connected to one huge network. Thanks to this city traffic would be extremely optimized, there would be no such thing as traffic jams and the number of car accidents would be much lower. Of course, this would require people to completely switch to autonomous cars, which would rather take a lot of time and be difficult to achieve.

2. I think that the growing number of electric and hybrid cars is a good sign for our environment. Many car fans consider the actions of environmentalists as an attempt to suppress real motorization but in my opinion this is an exaggeration. The sources of oil used to produce fuel are not infinite and sooner or later cars will have to use another energy source. The sooner this change occurs the better.

3. Since childhood, I liked cars produced by Nissan, and above all the skyline series. I like their appearance and how you can modify their engine. It's amazing how much power these cars can achieve.
Kuba Berliński said…

1. I think that is the future and it will re-define the way we perceive driving cars. I only hope it would affect us in a positive way.

2. I think that there is no way to stop pollution. Even if people would start using electric cars, the energy would have to be produce in order to power them. It would simply relocate pollution from cities, which doesn't seem to be a bad concept if done correctly.

3. I've never really been interested in super cars I must say. I've never had and most likely nor I will have a dream car.
Rather, I will not agree that they are the same. Certainly stylistic differences are starting to blur, look at the new Passat for example, you can mistake it for golf, but these cars still differ in terms of driving characteristics and engine performance.
Kacper Gąsior said…
1. It's hard for me to answer this question as I'm not a driver. I like the idea of these systems - there are created to help people, make some actions during driving easier. But as I said, I'm not a driver, so my opinion is not based on any experience. Maybe there are some drawbacks which I don't see because of that.

2. I like this trend - making cars more ecological is not only about the pollution they produce. In longer period of time it may turn out to be cheaper - not only in exploitation but also in production. It will also affect technological development as new solutions in car industry may be used in other fields.

3. As I said before - I'm not a driver, not even a car enthusiast. To be honest, I can't imagine myself spending a little fortune on a car.

1. What do you think about driver assistance systems?

Driver assistance systems have become an important element of the equipment of new models of leading car manufacturers. Until recently, such systems were found in premium cars. Nowadays, all new cars are equipped.

2. How do you assess the impact of environmentalists on modern motoring?

Cars, which run on natural gas are the most environmentally friendly. Considering all parameters, this power source is better than gasoline for sure. In turn, electric cars have a clear advantage in greenhouse gas emissions only when they are constantly charged with green electricity.

3. What is your dream super car?

The cars of the future will be fully multimedia-equipped with a very efficient and fast network, with large screens on the dashboard. What's more, in the back of the front seats you could perform many operations by voice control. I just dream about it.

1. It's great that technology develops so fast thus we can use it in the automotive industry.
Driver assistance systems are good example that technology is changing our lives for the better. That features significantly improves road safety.
2. Motor vehicles are polluting the air so I'm glad that mostly due to environmentalists electric cars are getting more popular nowadays.
3. Tesla Roadster 2 is my dream car.

1.What do you think about driver assistance systems?
I think these are definitely useful inventions, driver assistance systems help drivers with controls such as an automatic parking system and they also reduce the risk of an accident thereby increasing the level of road safety not only for the driver but also for pedestrians.

2.How do you assess the impact of environmentalists on modern motoring?
I think that over time people will have to switch to alternative types of fuel since oil reserves are not unlimited and the number of consumers is growing every year. According to preliminary estimates, humanity will have enough oil for another fifty years, but the smaller it will be, the greater it will cost, therefore people will switch to alternative types of fuel before the oil reserves are exhausted, all that remains is to hope that it will be ecologic species.

3.What is your dream super car?
I never dreamed of some super car, currently I don’t have a car so I would be glad anyone, but I always dreamed of a big yacht.

1.What do you think about driver assistance systems?
Yes, these are really very good things, which are excellent indicators of the development of the automotive industry. And all the new generation systems that you mentioned can really help the driver in various unforeseen circumstances. But you should not be 100 percent responsible for automatic mechanisms, such as autopilot. This technology must go through several more stages of practical testing before being introduced into mass production. Since there were not entirely successful applications. Therefore, in the first place, the driver must rely on himself.

2.How do you assess the impact of environmentalists on modern motoring?
In general, I would certainly strengthen their role. It is necessary to introduce more restrictions on the environmental characteristics of cars. Of course, in many countries they try to comply with the standards that you indicated in your article. Nevertheless, the global environmental situation requires a more careful approach. Since this is not quite enough. Comfortable and convenient driving around the city does not require super-powerful engines that pollute the environment. I think car owners should also approach this issue more consciously.

3.What is your dream super car?
To be honest, I don’t have a dream car. Autotrends are also rapidly changing and developing. It seems to me by the time I want a car, if I want it, then the standards will be different, so I definitely can not answer this question.
Merry Christmas!
1.What do you think about driver assistance systems?
I think it's the future of motoring
2.How do you assess the impact of environmentalists on modern motoring?
It was not a big impact because no one listened to them they were only used by marketing to praise their new so-called environmentally friendly products. Well it may have changed a bit in recent times because of the inability to hide how much our environment is destroyed but how good these changes are we will see in a few years.
3.What is your dream super car?
Big, comfortable and with a chauffeur
1. I think they are very helpful. Parking assistant, traffic line assistant, blind spot assistant or autonomous driving systems. All these systems make car travel more and more secure. However, as an automotive fan, I think that the assistants receive driving pleasure.

2. I think that the influence of environmentalists is huge. At the same time, I don't know if it has really positive consequences. Currently, every producer is obliged to comply with strict standards. This, of course, is related to the durability of the cars, their costs. In addition, every manufacturer has an offer of electric cars, and as we know, the production of batteries is not so "green".

3. My dream supercar is the Ferrari 288 GTO. This is the "father" of the brilliant Ferrari F40. One of the last cars created by Enzo Ferrari. Beautiful design, incredible performance, lack of any assistants. The only computer in this car is the driver.
1. Driver assistance systems are very great. Certainly make it easier for drivers to maneuver, this is modern technology. Personally, I would like to have such a system in my car.

2. How many environmentalists, so many opinions. However, everyone agrees that electric cars are the future of motoring. However, on the other hand, the problem is, from what source will we get electricity?

3. My dream car is electric car - Tesla, but I have to wait a bit, because they are expensive today, moreover there are few charging stations, and I would not like to have a car standing somewhere in the middle of the road or in a field.

1.What do you think about driver assistance systems?
I think they're really helpful in some situations, but it will be a mistake to fully rely on them. People may use them but they should always be aware of what is going on the road so that in case of any danger due to falsive behavior of system react immedeately

2.How do you assess the impact of environmentalists on modern motoring?
Manufacturers try to reduce CO2 extinction into environment. For that they produce cars with electric motors, but they shouldn't forget from where electricity is obtained. Also there were ideas to build hydrogen motors, but they're too dangerous and there is a huge lobby of oil producers that won't easily allow such technology.

3.What is your dream super car?
I don't even what or need a car, so for me such transport should fully be autocontroled, it must be comfortable and not money-consuming.
Pawel Bluszcz said…
1. Personally, I am against electrical solutions used in technologies. They are more emergency than mechanical solutions and therefore more expensive to repair. In addition, it should be added that not every age group is able to adapt to the latest technical innovations.
2. I think that environmentalists should take care of factories and building air corridors by developers. Cars are currently a "smaller evil" for the climate than the above two sectors mentioned in the first sentence.
3. My dream car is Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio. I love the style of Italian cars. They are beautiful.
1.What do you think about driver assistance systems?
I have never driven a car with assistance system. I really like driving so i probably would limit using it in day to day bases but it might be usefull sometimes. I would like to drive it.

2.How do you assess the impact of environmentalists on modern motoring?
They are for sure right in most of their thesis but creating electric cars and using mostly fossil fuels to create electricity to power them isnt as environmently friendly as they say.

3.What is your dream super car?
I especially like cars from the 80's and 90's and i am not a huge fan of supercars. Probably my picku would be an old toyota ae86 with 1.6 l engine. Its an japan icon in motorsport and drifting and it super rare and expensive.

1.What do you think about driver assistance systems?
I think that faster or later it is our future. Everything will be electric and Artificial Intelligence will take control over actions which can be automatic and controlled controlled by rules and appropriate programming. Right now it can be too dangerous and unreliable, thats why we shouldn't rely on it too much, but in simple situations such systems can be helpful.

2.How do you assess the impact of environmentalists on modern motoring?
I am glad that we can be a part of times where we care about environment and try to design and produce eco products. That includes modern motoring like electric cars. I hope it's gonna develop and a some point reach economic, eco and profitable level.

3.What is your dream super car?
I love Audi and I am loyal to that brand. I dream about RS 7 Sportback, I like fast cars, which are also comfortable and safe. Audi is well designed, economic, beautiful, fast and unfortunately too expensive on my pocket for now.
1. Personally, I would not like to use such systems but I know that it may be helpful for some drivers.
2. In my opinion, environmentalists significantly exaggerate and only hinder everything.
3. I'm not a fan of super cars, my dream car is Nissan skyline r34 gtr z-Tune.

1. I would use it if it was safe. It seems that it’s still not a time for auto-pilots. Tesla had some accidents made by auto-pilot, but in theory, if I was at least 99% sure its safe, I would use it in case of long trips, for example.

2. They don’t matter much really, they cannot break industries. The only useful people are like musk, rich venturers who can afford such risks. Of course he is an environmentalist, but that is not what makes him successful in this battle over environment.

3. What if I don’t like supercars? My choice is something comfortable and luxury, rather than fast and ridiculous.
1. I think that such systems will improve the safety on our roads, because unfortunately most people are not good drivers and even the best drivers could use a help sometimes. I think that we should be able to turn them off if we want to tough.

2. I think that we should switch to EV as soon as possible, but unfortunately their range is still a huge problem.

3. I do not like supercars, but my dream down-to-earth car is bmw 4 gran coupe.

I think that this kind of system bring us closer to fully autonomous vehicles and this is a direction where people should aim. Driving requires full attention and people are error prone, which eventually might cause accidents. These sort of systems could help the driver react in an appropriate way and prevent the accident.

2.
They might have some impact on the industry, as the new emission restrictions are adopted quite frequently. I would say that this is a good direction and the future vehicles should be developed in a way that doesn't affect the environment so much.

3.
There is so many cool cars that the choice could be quite difficult... maybe McLaren P1?

1.What do you think about driver assistance systems?
He helps with a lot of things. Lane tracking, automatic parking adds a lot of features to this system and gives you a pleasant ride without fatigue as long as you can.
2.How do you assess the impact of environmentalists on modern motoring?
I think it is not enough as it is not widespread in many countries right now. But things like that have to evolve slowly.
3.What is your dream super car?
A car like that doesn't exist in my dreams. But my first car was the BMW 520i. I was 18 and I just got my driver's license. It was really nice to drive the car with a strong voice. I think I wish I could still be one of BMW's top-level cars.
1. What do you think about driver assistance systems?
I think the driver assistance system is the future of transport. We still have a lot to work out. Thousands of cars driving automatically connected to one huge network. That sounds amazing. Thanks to this, traffic in the city would be extremely optimized, there would be no such things as traffic jams, and the number of car accidents would be much lower. People would have to go 100% away from ordinary cars, which will also be a very long and difficult process.

2. How do you assess the impact of environmentalists on modern motoring?
Environmentalists have a positive impact on earlier technologies. thanks to them this branch of technology develops faster. The sources of crude oil used to produce fuel are not infinite and sooner or later cars will have to use a different energy source. I hope that we will change to electric cars sooner than all glaciers will melt.

3. What is your dream supercar?
My supercar is a car with a glass roof, and maybe also a door. It should have heated seats and a leather cockpit. There should be plenty of space in the back. It should be very light inside. It should not look too modern. Just be closer to nature.

1.What do you think about driver assistance systems?
Just look how cars are significantly better than ones produced before that technological jump. I think nowadays cars are way safer and we could achieve that thanks to those assistance systems. Safety is the most important factor for me.

2.How do you assess the impact of environmentalists on modern motoring?
I can feel that we need a change in order to save enviroment, but to be honest it's hard to imagine that one day petrol car is only a beautiful memory. It just blows my mind, but at the same time I think it's necessary.

3.What is your dream super car?
Since my early childhood I feel some kind of bond with classic Porsche 911. It represents everything I need and want from sports car of my dreams.

1. What do you think about driver assistance systems?
Nowadays machines have faster reactions than humans, they can better predict different situations, monitor a lot of things at the same time. Driver assistance should be must-have feature in all new cars, as it really helps the driver and reduces accidents on the roads, I believe.

2. How do you assess the impact of environmentalists on modern motoring?
Generally, environmentalists doing the right things, because cars becoming more and more and more emissions. But still, there are some of their restrictions which actually have nothing to do with ecology.

3. What is your dream super car?
I don't have dream car. There are a lot of cool cars which I would like to drive and maybe own. And each is interesting and special in its own way.
1.What do you think about driver assistance systems?

I think that very often it makes more harm than it helps. Some assistance system like Blind Spot Assistant is a great invention in my opinion because it actually shows the driver things he cannot see. On the other hand, line assist just irritates the driver. At least it irritates me, because it has never work when it should have.

2.How do you assess the impact of environmentalists on modern motoring?

They have made a huge impact because electric cars have become a big player in this market. People very often tend to chose electric cars over the traditional ones. Thanks to that the amount of carbon dioxide has fallen drastically. Even if somebody is not willing to buy an electric car, the petrol cars have new standards of pollution they have to obey to be used on the roads.

3.What is your dream super car?

There are so many amazing cars I would love to have one day that it is hard for me to pick one. If I would have to chose only one I would probably pick something like Ferrari 812 or Aston Martin DBS Superleggera. Something from a GT lineup. Those seem to be the best set of advantages for me. A pleasant ride with a huge amount of power under the foot.

1.What do you think about driver assistance systems?
I don't like them, if i want someone to drive for me, I would hire someone for it or use the public transportation. I like driving and shifting the gears by myself.

2.How do you assess the impact of environmentalists on modern motoring?
The future is going more enviromentalists on machanics I agree, but there is still have many years ahead to get all cars with ecofriendly models.

3.What is your dream super car?
I don't know, I have nothing in my mind, when the topic is coming to the cars. But probably a Ferrari FF would be fine.
1.What do you think about driver assistance systems?
It is really cool, having some AI system that helps you in every way while you're driving seems to be really cool!
2.How do you assess the impact of environmentalists on modern motoring?
We should switch to EV as soon as possible in my opinion but it is not so easy I would say.

3.What is your dream super car?
My dream car would be some electric cabrio with automatic and tempometric system and my second dream car would be a futuristic model. Well I would like to have tesla I think after all.

1.What do you think about driver assistance systems?

To get the best experience and sensations from driving a pure driver-car, driver assistance systems should be deleted. No surprise that they are limited in sports cars or completely gone in professional racing cars. This can also prove who is the best driver on the track. But on the other hand, in a daily car, driver assistance systems can be a blessing. Given that there are less or more, experienced drivers on the road, these systems can help both these groups in a dangerous situations.

2.How do you assess the impact of environmentalists on modern motoring?

I am car freak so my heart will always beat in direction of N/A V8s, V10 and V12s which are absolute opposition of environmental-friendly but I also understand the direction the car sector is going and I am also glad that some companies really try their best to stick to their roots while clinging to the requirements they have to meet to be “environmentally” accepted.

3.What is your dream super car?

I would say that the first hybrid super car created by Ferrari.

1.What do you think about driver assistance systems?
I think that for a daily driving the assictance systems are really helpful and desirable. They could help in edge situations when human just isn't that fast to react for example. Adaptive cruise control allows you to give your foots a rest for some time, auto brakeing supervises you in case of something unexpected and blind spots monitoring tells you about cars you are not able to see. But everything depends on what are your needs, someone might not be interested in all that systems and might want to drive just a pure machine by himself/herself, without any help. But that's right what you stated in the end of your presentation that sometimes all that systems could distract you or exempt you form thinking and beeing focused all the time.

2.How do you assess the impact of environmentalists on modern motoring?
I like that everything is becoming more and more envirinment friendly but I am not a fan of downsizing and eco-ing sports cars. In my opinion sports cars should be excluded from regulations and be developed in an old fashion manner.

3.What is your dream super car?
I think I have 3 dream cars but only one of them is a vehicle that I can afford 😁
That is Toyota Supra MK4, Nissan Skyline R34 and Toyota GT86 :-)
1. Driver assistance systems are very advanced nowadays. They are developing faster than mankind is able to adapt. Our parents are no longer able to absorb all peculiarities of these systems. I sometime think automobile industry is moving towards driving without any human intervention.
2. I think environmentalists are right. They help automobile industry move into completely new dimension which by the way entails lower costs on production and easier technologies. This in the end forms lower prices on cars in the near future as a result.
3. My dream super car is some kind of McLaren electric car, or some new version of BMW i7.

Drive assistant system might be a useful feature and it's pretty amazing. I am very happy that modern motoring is so developed and promoted that emissions of harmful substances became less than before. I dreamt about a lot of cars but the last one which I really wanna try to is Tesla. But for everyday life I would totally choose something small, economical and, would be perfect, electrical.
1. I think that it might make streets safer so I am all for it. However, cars being autonomous is something I can't imagine being safe in nearest future.
2. It is quite huge and I am glad because of it. We should do much more than we are currently doing in order to prevent destruction of natural environment on the Earth. I am standing all for promoting electric cars.
3. I am not that much into cars so I can't mention any car I dreamed of. I think it would be cool to drive somekind of futuristic new car but I can't really give you a name of a model.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
