Week 8 [13.05 – 19.05.2019] The camera that brought magic to our childhood

How did the poor cartoonist turn out to be the founder of a multi-billion dollar empire leading in the global entertainment industry? Why is Walt Disney consistently included in all the lists of the most influential and successful businessmen in the world who have had the greatest impact on people's lives in the twentieth century?

Many experts agree that Disney managed to create a parallel world, but fabulous. The world in which you can hide from the problems of reality and hide their children, the whole family. For this, as it turned out, people are willing to pay a lot of money.

Several generations of Americans have seen in Disney a man whose mission is to give moments of fun and joy to millions of people. And Walt Disney carried out his mission easily “whistling while working” and he loved to repeat “I don’t know what depression is a bad mood. I’m a happy man.”

You can also see examples of cartoons created with this camera.

1. Have you ever seen cartoons made with this camera?
2. How do you think this camera helps to create a natural effect?
3. Have you started to notice the work and effect of this camera in cartoons after watching the first video?

Comments

When watching that sorts of video, about everything from cartoons to mass production, I realize, how slower and more difficult life was before inventing a computer. And exactly HOW MUCH did it take from people's hands. Now this opening scene from Bamby would probably take 20 minutes in MovieMaker to compute. That emphasises how hard work was done by the masters of their job before.

1.Of course, I saw cartoons made with this camera. It's an amazing device.
When I first saw this movie I was very impressed because I didn't know that it was in this way that Disney's cartoons were made.
2. It works on different levels so it seems to me this natural effect that it's from.
3. For sure when I will watch older cartoons I will pay attention to it.

1. Have you ever seen cartoons made with this camera?

Like most of us - yes.

2. How do you think this camera helps to create a natural effect?

Like most of technologies - it allows creators to make something new, something that would be impossible to made only by using hands.

3. Have you started to notice the work and effect of this camera in cartoons after watching the first video?
I guess nope, sorry.
The video is not available in my country (I'm in Ukraine right now).
Sorry for that, provide a normal link please
Yes. I remember when I was a child and getting up early only to watching old cartoons on TV in parents bedroom. They were annoyed at me that I always wake them up in weekend when they want to sleep off work . I didn’t know how they withstanded with me.

Yes the technologies like this and other developed form they let us admire fully expend filters. Many of them are use in social media to taking a fast picture and taking on them interactive filters. It gives a huge effect beautiful picture.

First of all I discovered how this cartoons are made. From as a child I was wondering how this heroes are made. Is good to know how my icons are created because I was believe they are real.
1. Yes, I did, but I’ve never paid attention to the technology behind this. I wonder how much time it took to create a movie with this method. Work of those people is underestimated for sure.

2. It gives the possibility to create the perspective which allows to make films out of drawings which are not flat. The imitation of three-dimensional space looks natural and people – especially children are not very surprised with the shape of the world they are presented.

3. Yes, being aware of the method of creation of such movies I started to notice layers which are moved relative to each other. I think that now I won’t be able to stop paying attention to that whenever I see such animation.

Of course. A lot. Old Disney cartoons, even pre-war ones was so well made, that today them still look fantastic.

2. How do you think this camera helps to create a natural effect?

I think that behind simple and obvious solution stays great mind that engineered this solution in first place and when animators stuck with the problem of perspective this was brilliant idea. For me it looks much more realistic and even computer drawn than flat background.

3. Have you started to notice the work and effect of this camera in cartoons after watching the first video?

Absolutely, before that I haven't thought how the image is composed from different layers, and was thinking that every layer is made fully hand drown. Now I start to understand how it was made.

Well not really. I just realized it when I was watching video presented by you.
1. Have you ever seen cartoons made with this camera?
Yes, of course! I love Disney movies, so I watched a lot of them, even these old one, made with this camera. I've never knew how they'd done this, but as I was watching I realized it looks like for example "Sleeping Beauty" or "Pinocchio".
2. How do you think this camera helps to create a natural effect?
It brings depth to the animated movie, so it looks a little bit realistic. It was an amazing solution to show perspective in these type of movies.
3. Have you started to notice the work and effect of this camera in cartoons after watching the first video?
When I watched this video I noticed, that I know a lot of movies made by this camera!
1. Yes I have. When I was a kid, I watched a lot of Disney movies - "Kaczor Donald", "Myszka Miki" and "Tom i Jerry". I love these cartoons and I watch them even now!

2. It's hard to answer, because I am not interesting in productions and camera, but In my opinion - perspective and depth? This is my personal feelings.

3. Definitely yes I have started to notice the work and effect of this camera in cartoons after watching the first video. This is really interesting thing I noticed.
This is very interesting. I haven't got idea how those cartoons were made. The camera was brilliant idea for sure. It gives very convincing 3D illusion. I think I need to read more on this topic, because I have no idea how it all have worked.
Incredible! Thank you for this article! I came back to my childhood and gave me many ideas for some projects!

1. Have you ever seen cartoons made with this camera?
Of course! Many cartoons that I recall in my mind had the effect that was used! It was amazing :D

2. How do you think this camera helps to create a natural effect?
Obtaining such an effect required a really large dose of creative thinking and innovation. It seems to me that the issue of perspective and movement of scenes located at different distances and the play of lights results in an effect that gives us a very natural effect.

3. Have you started to notice the work and effect of this camera in cartoons after watching the first video?
Yes, practically from the first moments and I suspect that for a long time I will not forget about this effect and the way of production :)
This is a very interesting topic. Of course, I saw a lot of cartoons that are made by this camera. Unfortunately, I did not even realize that it was so difficult. I think this camera allows to make very good cartoons. The effect is very close to the natural effect. When I saw how this camera works. I began to notice the work of this camera. I began to notice how landscapes move. Very interesting! Thank you for an excellent article!
Hmm, yes the computer definitely simplified life. But unfortunately, the process of animation production remains long. Now there are other difficulties.
This is definitely important. It's nice to notice the different tricks of shooting when you watch movies. In my opinion, we begin to appreciate more the work of people in the film, when we know how difficult it was to create it.
You are welcome. Very pleased that this video is appreciated. Since I also love it very much and I think that it opened my eyes to the process of animation and creating the depth of the frame.
Well, I did watch cartoons but I had no idea that they were filmed with this type of camera. This is really interesting and good to know knowledge.
I think it allows director to create specific scene with multiple layers and painted or printed layer will look much more natural than creating a mock-up.
I do not watch cartoons now, I think I will start to notice the effect now when I see old cartoon but I think nowadays it is not a common technique, computer animation are much better in my opinion
Definitely, cartoons are created primarily for the viewer. I think the analysis time comes at the second or third viewing of the film.
I agree, after watching this video, we no longer become the same. I consider it ingenious that they have discovered the effect of depth and how it works in life and were able to recreate a device that makes a similar effect.
I was also in Ukraine when I published this video. It worked. To solve such problems, there are VPN and anonymizers.
Yes, I think my parents also suffered. But I honestly tried to be as quiet and silent as possible. Unfortunately, I had restrictions on watching some cartoons at home; my parents simply could not stand the Simpsons.
1. Have you ever seen cartoons made with this camera?
Yes, I'he seen cartoons made with this camera. That were cartoons I watched in childhood.

2. How do you think this camera helps to create a natural effect?
Artists shouldn't illustrate each move of background, what makes the process of creating cartoons quicker a lot. Moreover, a usage of this camera made multiplications look more clean without inaccuracies and missing details.

3. Have you started to notice the work and effect of this camera in cartoons after watching the first video?
I had watched this video long time ago and become to imagine how those old cartoons were made.

1. Have you ever seen cartoons made with this camera?

Yes, I have seen some cartoons, which were shot with this camera.

2. How do you think this camera helps to create a natural effect?

I think yes, it helps. It feels more realistic and more common with this camera and the it looks great.

3. Have you started to notice the work and effect of this camera in cartoons after watching the first video?

I think yes, I was thinking about this camera, when I was watching the second video. How the landscape moves.

Thank you very much for this artice!
Well, I always thought this was about emotions. I have never noticed the effect that camera provides before watching the videos. Now I see how it works, and it is amazing. I think what they did with this camera is that they made people see the world more beautiful as it is, and they also gave a lot of emotions to the characters of the cartoons. This is why probably we have enjoyed them so much when we were children...

Yes I did. I enjoyed watching those old cartoons, but I never before pay attention to that.

It gives the viewer the perspective and depth. Thanks to those ideas the cartoon it looks more realistic and real.

Yes I did. Thanks to those video I stated to notice the multiple layers.
I watched a lot of Disney productions so propably I could seen productions made by this camera but I think I was more absorbed by the story than mechanism that help with creation. I have a lot of respect for the animators that bring Disney creations to life but unfortunately are forgotten. After watching video you posted I could see some moves that have been made by the camera.
I have seen many cartoons made with this camera. It is great for creating ilussion of movement and it provides more realistic approach to presenting. The idea that foreground is moving differently than background is great and i think that why it got so natural effect. I have noticed the work of this camera about few years ago, but once i saw it, thee magical, childlish effect of movies has faded. I think sometimes it is better to leave mysteries like that alone.

(Due to technical difficulties of PJATK mail, i am forced to post comment using diffrent account)

Yes, of course I saw the cartoons made by this camera, since we grew up on them, and they will always have a special atmosphere and nostalgia.
I always understood and now once again made sure how difficult and long the work was done (now it is also quite difficult, but completely different technologies)
In the past, this technology was just a miracle for the realization of the natural effect, now of course you can’t say it. But in my story this is childhood, so I really love such cartoons.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
