Week 4 [16.04-22.04.2018] My trip to Lviv

I want to share with you some informations about this city because I was there few days ago and it made a huge impression on me. It was my first time there and it was even my first time in the Ukraine. I hope that you enjoy this presentation and it encourage you to visit this colourful city.

I don't want to describe historical facts about this city because you can read it on the wikipedia. I have to say very basic informations about this city before I start sharing with you some pictures and stories from my travel. Lwów is the largest city in western Ukraine and also is one of the main cultural centres of this country.

For my point of view it is a very good place to make a fun there. In this city we have a lot of pubs, bars and restaurants designed with very fresh ideas and it is pleasure to try their food or drinks. For four days I was in ten or even more places and always I got tasty, fresh meals and good beers and their special cherry liqueur which was hard to buy because of huge queues. It was so good that you have to wait to try it but trust me - it was worth it!

Have you ever heard about a coffee mine? I have never heard also about something like that until I went to Lwów. They created a place where you can wear a helmet and go underground to feel like a miner. It is of course a mystification but it is funny that they come up with such interesting ideas for place where you can drink a coffee. This is really common approach that they create their business in a some convention trying to interest their customers.

We shouldn't forget that this city was polish for so many years and as a polish citizen I was feel it when I was on museums and I have seen many documents or old buildings with signboards in polish language.

I know that it is past and now the Lwów is ukrainian city but it is interesting feeling when you see such posters which I linked above and it is kind that we can learn full of history of Lwów in nowadays museums. We should remember origins of this city but nowadays after all of wars it seems that this city will have a good future within the state of Ukraine. I learned there that as a nations we have a lot in common and even I was able to understand ukrainian language and they was able to understand polish which was very enjoyable for me. I think that the Cyrillic is kind of barrier with our comunication but in conversation is it not a problem. :)

To sum up I have to recommend visit this beautiful city which has a very good restaurant, a interesting history and friendly residents. I am sure that I come back there even in this year because four days was not enough for me. I hope that our ukrainians students will have to share with us what is worth to see there.

I hope that you enjoy my presentation. I had a lot to say about my trip but I didn't want to force you to read a wall of text. Thank you for your attention and please answer questions below. :)

1. Have you even been in Lwów? If yes, what do you like the most in this city?
2. Have you ever heard about masonic restaurant in Lwów? Maybe you were there? If no, I recommend to search it in Google and find out why this place has a mysterious atmosphere.

I've never been there and I'm not planning to be in the near future.

I thought this restaurant was a meeting point for people who belonged to this group but apparently no. From what I could find, they just create specific atmosphere, put high prices but also give big discounts, and serve quite good however sometimes mediocre food.

If you don't have an idea where to go on next holiday you should think about Lwów! It is not far a way, the prices are very attractive so invite your friends and see for yourself! :)

I think the unique atmosphere what I like the most about this city and what attracts so many tourists each year not even mentioning history that this city holds in it. That's why Lviv is considered as the cultural capital of Ukraine.
Yes, I've heard about a masonic restaurant but I haven't had any occasion to visit it. There so many interesting places in Lviv that, in my opinion, four days is just not enough to see everything. But as mentioned in the article it is worth it and it will be a unique experience. Good to see that you enjoyed your trip.

I have never been in Lviv. But I would like to visit it some day for sure. Although there are many places that are higher on my list. The current prices are definitely inviting.
According to my google search the masonic restaurant is very expensive and I don’t think it’s worth the experience. But I will consider it when I plan my trip. Thanks.

Thank you very much Nazar that you recommended some places which was worth to visit. You should try this restaurant! I know that they play something like performance for tourists but it is really realistic. Moreover they have a very tasty dishes so for you should check it at least once.

I can recommend for you a restaurant which is called 'Arsenal Ribs and Spirits'. Great back ribs and quite extraordinary decorations.

Don't be afraid to try this restaurant when you will be in Lwów. Trust me - it is worth it to go there and solve this riddle. ;)

I have never visited Lviv but I am planning to do so next vacation so your article provides many interesting tips and ideas about how I will spend my time there. Masonic restaurant looks very interesting and is definitely yet another place on my checklist!

I have never been to Lviv, but my boyfriend has, a long time ago, and he says that the city leaves a huge impression on any visitor. It is similar to Polish Kraków, but with a touch of something oriental and untamed. I think that Lviv may be a counterpart for Kiev, which is the capital of Ukraine. I've heard people saying that Lviv is the cultural capital, while Kiev is the business capital of the country. I think I would much rather go to Lviv - also because it is so much closer to Poland.
I have never heard about the masonic restaurant, however, the cafeteria arranged in the style of a mine got me curious - you could leave some more details on where to find it ;)

Anna, this is a link with a location of Masonic restaurant in Lwów. :)

I have been to Lviv lots of times. This is the cultural capital of Ukraine, the most beautiful and cultural city from all Ukraine. In Lviv you can find not only interesting historical places but also lots of families who are still keeping all Ukrainian traditions, which is unfortunately is being forgotten in our days in other parts of Ukraine. I advice everyone to visit this magnificent city.
it is a bit shameful for me as ukrainian but i have never been in Lviv =). It is not the only great city in Ukraine but definitely one of the most colorfull and diverse, because in Lviv you can feel the history and see it at every corner. One of the most interesting activities from what i've heard is sado-masochistic restaurant, where you can be served with good food and good whip =3. By the way make sure to visit Kiev, there are huge amont of sightseeing to do.

1. Unfortunately, but I didn't have such a pleasure and I won't have it for a while yet.
2. Unfortunately, I did not have the pleasure of doing so either. After reading, I searched for this masonic restaurant and if I am in Lviv, I will visit it with pleasure.

I have never been there, but I heard the alcohol is very cheap out there. It's a quite strong argument to visit it in the nearest future! :)

Unfortunately, I haven't heard about any masonic restaurant in Lwów.

So far it's the most boring presentation I've read during English course. You share with your personal experience but the value of it tends to zero. Other presentation at least show you the world under different angle or give you some general and more specific. May be even raise some internal conflicts. After reading this I felt bored and regret of waist that much time. It might have been different if we where friends or you had en expertise.
Unknown said…
I'm sorry to hear that you didn't like my presentation. I tried to share my own personal experience in this presentation and I thought that in this way some of you would be interested to visit this place or we would have a ocasion to talk about other interesting facts from this city e.g. historical facts or places which are worth to visit.

Of course I respect your opinion but I think that your behavior is a bit unkind because you ignored my questions and you commented nothing connected to the topic.

If you will be in Lviv you should try a cherry liqueur from this link:

I don't think that is any shameful for you that you have never been in this city and I am sure that after this presentation I gave you a boost to visit this place. :) I have to admit that I am not fan of sado-masochistic spending time but this restaurant it is a great example of fact that they have unlimited imagination to create places which are interesting and surprising.
Unknown said…
I am glad that my presentation was useful for you. I wasn't sure if such a topic about my own experiences will be a good idea but now I see that it wasn't bad. We don't have to talk only about serious things on this course and I hope that this presentation was something which was nice to read. Some facts, some pictures and a lot of you said that after my recommendation you will think about going to Lviv and I'm happy because of it.

I've never been to Ukraine. But I heard that if you want to go to a good party and spend very little money, Lviv is a good place. I have never heard of a Masonic restaurant. I would like to go to Lviv. I hope I will manage to make it this year. I think that going to Lviv is a very good idea. Everyone who was in Lviv always recommended this place to me.
I have been to Lviv only once but I hope I’ll be able to fix this in the nearest future. Even though I have been there only once and for a really short period of time(1 day), it made a huge impression on me. This city showed me the people who do love their country and speak their native language, people who appreciate their legacy and proud of their history. It’s a unique city with its charming atmosphere. Lviv also made me love everything connected with coffee, liqueur and chocolate.

I have heard about masonic restaurant and about its prices from my parents but I didn’t manage to visit it on my own because I was short of time.

I've never been there, but after search about this city on internet i found interesting things about this city for example It’s full of gorgeous old buildings, but unlike the squeaky clean, souvenir shop-filled Old Towns of so many other European cities, Lviv looks a little more gritty and a little less picture book.

1. Unfortunately I have never been to Lwów but it is on my list of must-see places, especially that it was formerly a Polish city.
2. Thanks for providing information about interesting places to visit in Lwów, masonic restaurant is definitely a one I am going to visit.
I from Ukraine but I never have been in Lviv but I want to visit it in this year when I will return home. In Ukraine people told that Lviv is a soul of Ukraine so I think this trip must be nice and cool.
Illia Shynder said…
I've been in Lviv few times, and I can say that it's the only city in Ukraine that feels more like polish city than Ukrainian(this feeling is based on architecture and only on architecture of this city). It's kind of a beautiful at some parts. The best part of Lviv is it's restaurants. This is the thing that i like and biggest part of this city atmosphere is made by it's restaurants. They are creative, unique and interesting. They put a lot of effort to make their restaurants attractive, unique and interesting for tourists. Excuse me, maybe I'm wrong, but I feel lack of such approach in Poland. Yeah, you have a lot of good restaurants too, but the all look kinda the same. It's hard to find something very unique and interesting. But I think that's because poles work more than spend money on restaurants, and that's the good thing)
Marcin Górski said…
I have never been there. To be honest, I have always thought that Ukraine/Russia are very gloomy places to visit and that's why if I want to see another country, I'm always looking for the place "on the left side of Poland". On the other hand, your presentation about that city is very interesting and it has changed my mind a little bit :)
No, I have never been in that kind of restaurant but after a small research... there are a positive feedback in the Internet about that.
Unknown said…
I wasn't. I was never in ukraine but I would like to go there one day. I think maybe it would not be Lwów but some other city.

I haven't heard. For sure when I visit Lwów I will visit masonic restaurants.

I was visiting Lviv about 7-8 times. That's amazing city with it own atmosphere. I like the most the atmosphere of relax and happiness that envelops the city.

2. Have you ever heard about masonic restaurant in Lwów? Maybe you were there? If no, I recommend to search it in Google and find out why this place has a mysterious atmosphere.
No, I didn't.

My parents have moved to Lviv 7 years ago, so I feel like at home there when I visit them. I am in love with this city and every time I come to Lviv I find new interesting places. The city is developing very fast and more and more tourists come every year. I made a short list of the places to go for my polish friends, because they keep on asking what could I recommend there. To tell the truth, I am not into touristic places and restaurants, but in Lviv you can always find some alternative attractions and places. I love to walk in the parks and make the pictures of the small streets. Also you can visit some castles around Lviv, so no time to be bored there.

I did not hear about masonic restaurant, but sure thing I will search that up.

I didn't have been in Lwów, but I'd like to go there. Mostly because it's close to Polish border and it would be first stop on the trip to Chernobyl I'm planning from the long time.

And I didn't heard about this restaurant in Lwów, but it sounds like conspiracy for me... Or conspiracy about mystery in this place.
Unknown said…
Thanks for Your article. Unfortunatelly i have never been in Lwów but it"s on my "must see" list. This article was weery intereseting for people who want to go to Lwów. At our university, we have frends who are from Lwów. It's nice to know now something about thath city.
About that restaurant i've herad that it's not one ot the cheapest. But maybe, when i will be a milioner I will go there to try it.
No, I've never been in Lwów but after reading your presentation, maybe :) I must admit I've never thought about spending holidays there , because I had in mind that Ukraine is kind of hostile country ( I don't know why probably movies created that image). And no I've never heard about Masonic restaurant and I guess it should have mysterious atmosphere regardles its name. Anyway if you recommend this city so much I will consider goin there at one time.

I also never heard about masonic restaurants but you are good at advertising that place, which I just add to my „to visit” list.

I've never been to Lwów so far, but I would consider going there in the future. It's a pretty nice and interesting city after all. Another advantage of this city among the other cities which are pretty close and easy to visit is that the prices there are pretty low :)
Neither have I ever heard of a masonic restaurant. I would surely consider this one if I'd decide to go to Lwów any near future.

I was in Lviv. Lviv is not like other cities in Ukraine, although I prefer Kiev. Lviv is a cultural capital, because Lviv residents speak the Ukrainian national language, which is actually similar to Polish, and certainly an immeasurably large number of pubs and restaurants. "Drunken Cherry" is a delicious wine, for which you actually need to stand in line even at 10 am. In the "Masonic" restaurant he never dined, but was on a tour of Lviv, and it turned out that not only the mine with coffee under the ground, but also a lot of unusual rooms and passages are under castles and houses. In Lviv, huge underground catacombs are probably connected with the fact that the city itself is small. I advise you to visit Lviv for those who have not been there yet.

I've never been in Lwów, however I’d really like to visit this place. It isn't that far from Warsaw, so I may add it to my "tripp list". I'm always open to visit new, inspiring places such as city You talked about. And it's in Ukraine, I've always wanna to go there, there are lot of beatifull girls there.. - I like sightseeing as well.. ;)

Unfortunately, I haven't heard about masonic restaurant in Lwów.

I've been in Lviv twice. I love the atmosphere, girls, night clubs and prices and as you wrote, they had many great resteurants.
People are very friendly, after my second trip, manager of our hotel (Chopin Hotel) post our photo with regards. on their official page on facebook :D

Its a cool feeling to read an article about my hometown here, actually I'm writing this, being in the city. Masonic restaurant is a nice place, also it is a one of a 'must-be-visited' places club. The prices are multiplied by 10 times especially because of it) Next time I recommend you to visit the place called "Kryivka' which is located in the underground of the same building Masonic is. You could feel local culture much better in this place.
I was once in Lviv. It was a school trip in a primary school. Unfortunately, I do not remember much, especially about resturants, because we were only in one and it was rather a canteen. As part of the trip, we were definitely at the Cemetery of Eaglets. Another memory is that the driver of our bus had big problems with driving around this city, because road regulations are a hint rather than a rule there. If I ever go to Lviv again, I will definitely try to visit Masonic Resturant.
I have never been to Lwów. Although i have heard about this restaurant from my friend who visited it during his stay in Ukraine. His impressions were mixed at first restaurant seemed interesting and "mysterious" after he actually got there he left with a bad taste.
Not only the restaurant was expensive, food served for him was sub par, the atmosphere was bad and besides memorabilia on the walls and "preying" on masons stereotypes there was nothing special about it. He left flat out disappointing after bad mean and underwhelming experience. He was really fond of the city itself though. He had a blast just strolling around the city and taking photos.

Thank you once again for your attention. I have to admit that this topic was a bit experimental because we usually talk among this course about some philosophical matters but I decided that it could be interesting for most of us. I shared with you my own pictures and my own experience from this city and I'm conscious that I'm not an historical or cultural expert but I could tell you about amazing places and I hope that because of this presentation you will have open mind to go there because as many of us said here - it is totally worth it!

I totally agree with you that a communism is a deadly disease.

I have never been in Lwów, but after your article I think that it will be next foreign city that I will visit.
I have never heard about masonic restaurants, but some time ago I got really interested in masonic-related things, so this would be my first place to visit in Lwów.

Not yet, but it is on my trips schedule list for this year! After your story, I'm pretty excited to go there and check out the Masonic Restaurant you’ve mentioned. The good thing is, in general, each of my friend who has ever been in Ukraine has only positive feedback, adding the fact that it's a pretty cheap place it makes it a country you cannot miss (what's more we have the cheap flight from Warsaw to Lwów! ;))

No, I have never been in Lwów and I have never been thinking about visiting it, but your article showed me that it’s a quite interesting place.
As I said - I’ve never been there, so I haven’t heard about it.
Who knows, it’s not that far from Poland. Maybe someday I’ll make a little trip to the east ;).

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
