In 1962 the movie "Dr. No" appeared on the screens, and it became the first among the series of adventures of the invulnerable James Bond. The role of the agent 007 was played by six actors, each of whom brought a bit of his charm to the image of Bond. Let's recollect again who has been selflessly serving Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain during all this time.

In the late 1950s, the film company Eon Productions acquired the rights to the film adaptation of all the novels of Fleming, the films it has made are the official filmography of the Bond.

The first official James Bond was Sean Connery, who is still considered the best agent 007 among all who ever played this role. His JB career started in a film "Dr. No", after which Connery played in five more official parts: "From Russia with Love", "Goldfinger", "Thunderball", "You Only Live Twice" and "Diamonds are forever." The last time in the role of Bond Connery appeared in 1983 in the movie "Never Say Never", since it was filmed not by Eon Productions, he is not included in the official list of Bond.

The second Bond was the Australian George Lezenby, who replaced Connery, who refused this role. The film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" was released in 1969, but in the next series of Bond "Diamonds Are Forever" Connery returned to the screen. Lezenby, by the way, is the only non-British actor who played Bond: Sean Connery is a Scotsman, Pierce Brosnan is an Irishman, and Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Daniel Craig are Englishmen.

When in 1971 Connery finally refused to shoot in Bond, the third Bond came. It was a real Englishman Roger Moore. They say that this candidate was suggested by Ian Fleming himself. For the first time Moore appeared in the role of agent 007 in the tape "Live and Let Die" in 1973, after which he played this role for another 12 years in the films: "The Man with the Golden Gun", "The Spy Who Loved Me", "Moonraker", "For Your Eyes Only", " Octopussy" and "A View to Kill".  Moore was the oldest actor in this role - at the time of filming in the last film, Moore was already 57 years old.

The oldest Moore was replaced by Timothy Dalton, who played in the following two parts - "The Living Daylights" and "License to Kill " At this time, for the role of Bond there were two contenders, including Pierce Brosnan. But in the late 1980's Brosnan was bound by a contract with television, and the role went to Dalton. He left the project in 1991, when due to disagreements between the producers, the shootings were stopped. Dalton is the only Bond that wasn't nominated for any prize.

Brosnan first played the role of James Bond in 1995 in the movie "GoldenEye" - the 17th Bond film was not based on any novel by Fleming, the original script was written by several authors, and the idea of the plot belonged to a screenwriter Michael Frans. Also in this film, the role of M was played by Judy Dench for the first time. Then Brosnan starred in 3 more series of Bond: "Tomorrow Never Dies", "The World is not Enough" and "Die Another Day".

"Casino Royale" - the twenty-first James Bond film opened a new era of franchise and it was the first appearance of Daniel Craig. After the actor's endorsement of this role, some Bond fans and critics expressed doubts about the correctness of the choice, but when the film came out in 2006, almost everyone changed their mind. The enthusiastic reaction of the public was confirmed. In 2008, the second film with Craig was released - it was "Quantum of Solace", then "Skyfall", and the last film was "Spectrum", after which the actor decided to cease the participation in the filming of the continuation of the franchise.

So who will be the new Bond? Whom would you choose? Any suggestions? And who was your favorite? Do you think James Bond is a worthy hero? I would be glad to hear your opinion.

Honestly I have once watched 1/3 of a movie and I did not like it. Therefore I am not up to date with new Bond movies and actors playing him. Many people like Bond for the same reason they like Star Wars - they grew up with him so he's their teenage hero and they will gladly see new movies, just like they did when new Star Wars movie was released.

I think I might have seen all bond movies thanks to polish television, in which few years ago was whole series. Are those my favourite movies? Not really, but I don't mind watch them more than once. My favourite actor playing Bond is Sean Connery, but current Bond Daniel Craig is really close. I hope he will be playing main role in next movies. Who should be new Bond if Craig refuse to play? I think Idris Elba might be good.

Ah Sean Connery, the best Bond and the best Highlander ever.
Brosman was the worst! Can't stand him in that role. Craig on the other hand is cold as ice and it kinda gives a new vibe to the Bond "hero".
As all heroes, James Bond is always on time! Unlike this article...

I didn't like Bond movies until I saw "Skyfall" at the movies night in cinema and I loved it! Next weren't this good in my opinion, so I can say that I really like only one Bond movie.
I liked Craig as Bind, but when he was younger. In the last movie he was too old.
Pierce Brosnan was good at indroducing himself.
I herad that Gillian Anderson was mentioned as an actor to play next Bind and I would like to see it. I saw her in "The Fall", where she was an agent and I think that she would be a brilliant girl Bond, but I understand that fans od Bong don't like this idea - it would be a great breakthrough.
From males actors I don't know who I would like to watch on screen.
As a child I totally loved James Bond movies. I was fascinated by all his gadgets and supercars. For me the best James Bond was Sean Connery and, in general, these first movies from the series were the best ones.

My favourite Bond is Daniel Craig and I would be glad to watch him in next films. I've watched many parts of Bond serie and the most interesting for me were last ones. I think that next actor playing Bond should be Englishman, but I don't have any specific proposition.
James Bond was always classic action movie with a "big bang" and beautiful women in it.
For me Bronson and Moore is always on the top of the list of Bond's. Sean Connery is good but I do not see him as a perfect Bond and looks to mature for that role. Who would I like to see - I have one actor with perfect "English" that might be very good or very bad in it. I would like to see it in a future - Jason Statham might do the job.

Really? Gillian Anderson? I have never heard about such an idea, I think it would be funny, but it doesn't make sense. I have read that it could be Tom Hiddleston or Tom Hardy, but I am still not sure:) we will see.. Thanks!

Like i read the most James Bond Movie its in scenario like James bond find poor girl and he is looking after that girl and of course fight with enemy. In some part of movie that girl reveal oneself and now she is good or bad. I dont like film with known scenario.

I couldn't stand Craig, for example, but then I have watched "Flashbacks of a Fool", and changed my opinion about him as an actor

Well, on the one hand, you are right, on the other hand, maybe people really keep on watching these films cause they grew up with it, like Magdalena wrote above

I saw only the last two bonds and possibly one of the older ones and it's not my cup of tea. I see them as pretty good movies but they feel a little bit shallow. Daniel Craig seemed like a good bond, but I heard Sean Connery was the best one.

To be honest I'm not a great fan of Bond movies. I've seen one or two movies and it wasn't nothing special for me. It's also hard to say for me if he's a hero, but I'm sure there are his fans who love him and think of this character as a hero.
My favourite Bond is of course - Sean Connery, but Daniel Craig is good too. I think that I watched every Bond movie, but I'm not so very excited about next parts - so I don't wonder who will be next Bond. Whoever it will be, I will judge him after watching movie ;)
In my opinion the best James Bond was the one played by Sean Connery or Pierce Brosnan, as I really like the old movies of Bond. The newer ones are not so good in my view. I always loved movies about special agents, fighters, superheroes, great newest technology, fancy cars , guns, and so on. It is just fun to watch such action. Explosions, fight scenes of good and bad guys... Great. :)

I also watched only one James Bond movie starring Pierce Brosnan and it seemed to be a descend action movie. If I had to judge by the posters I would say that Sean Connery looks more confident in this role, while Daniel Craig doesn't really have a look of a special agent at all.

What a great post! Thank you very much - beauty idea for article :D. I've watched many James Bond movies. I was watching this series with my parents when I was at primary school. I have no any preferences about "Jamses" every of them has something special, irreplaceable.
I'm not a big fan of James Bond, but I enjoy such movies. My favourite one is Cassino Royale. I liked Daniel Craig as the 007 agent, but in my opinion - Sean Connery was the best one. I have no idea who will be the new one. Maybe Mr T? ;)
I'm not a big fan of James Bond movies. I like some of them but many are just so silly. My favorite one is Casino Royale with Daniel Craig. As a next Bond I would choose Idris Elba as was the gossips that he will be a new Bond, I really appreciate his talent and I would really like to see him as a next Bond.

As I have one James Bond freak-fan in my family, I think it is possible I watchech most of the episodes with various actors. I think my favorite ones are Daniel Craig, Pierce Brosnan and Roger Moore.
I'm much more Star Wars than Bond fan, but my favourite actor was Daniel Craig. What a shame he won't play James Bond any longer.

Tom Hardy would be a good fit.

The best part in all Agent 007 movies were cars ;)
