Week 10 [12.12 - 18.12] Pizza - the food of the gods

Pizza – we all eat it, we all love it. It’s constantly in top 3 of the most beloved kinds of fast food. Some say that there is no such thing as bad pizza. But have we ever stopped to think about it? Where does it come from, when was it created, what is it really?

http://fabrykaobiadow.ipr.pl/attachments/Image/pizza.jpg

Earliest pizzas were created way before Italy even existed, back in Neolithic age. The first flatbread created by mankind was hard and tasteless, so our ancestors found a way to add flavour to it by baking it with other ingredients, like meat of hunter animals, herbs or roots on top of it. In ancient Greece common people added olives and herbs to their baked bread, as well as the most important pizza ingredient – cheese. In Persia, 6th century BC, it was common to eat pizza with cheese and dates.
Modern pizza was created in Italy. It was there where it became common to add tomatoes to pizza, leaving cheese on top and adding herbs, mostly garlic, salt and basil, straight to the dough. This is what we tend to call “Pizza Margherita”. The name comes from a tale of queen Margherita being presented with 3 kinds of pizza to choose from, and she chose the one with Italian colors on it – red from tomatoes, green from basil and white from cheese. Some people say it’s true; yet, it’s most probably a legend.

Pizza became popular worldwide when Italian immigrants reached the United States. All immigrants loved its taste and the way it could be customized. The first known pizzeria was the Loop in Chicago. Created by Vincent (Jimmy) Bruno in 1903 it started a worldwide trend that has existed up to this day.

Modern pizza has evolved way beyond that. On top of the cheese we put many other ingredients that fit our taste, like pepperoni, mushrooms, ham or even pineapple. There are even two kinds of pizza at this point – Italian, which is more traditional, baked on more crusty dough with herbs and ingredients sometimes lying on a plate next to it, and American, with fat and salty dough.
What’s your favourite pizza?

I love pizza! Pizza is awesome!

Pizza is a very versatile food. It can be easy to eat alone and in a group. You can, but you do not need to use cutlery and plates. It can be a main dish, side dish or snack. You can eat it for breakfast, lunch, dinner and in between. You can order it delivered to your door. You can leave a part for reheating later. It can contain all kinds of dietary components, including even very healthy and nutritious vegetables.

I love the different types of pizza. Sometimes a thin crust and a careful selection of few components. Sometimes a thick dough with a mountain of cheese and toppings. My favorite ingredients on the pizzas are ham, mushrooms, capers, onions, salami and peppers. Of course, not including the traditional ones, such as cheese and tomato sauce. But sometimes I eat recently popular pizzas with rocket and Parma ham or seafood. I also like very controversial Hawaiian pizza with pineapple.

Really tasty article ;)
My favorite type of pizza is made very thin. For me it doesn't matter in fact what is on it, it's nice if only it's not too spicy and there are no sea foods (I hate them).
I love pizza especially when it's well baked and crunchy :)

I like pizza and I don't know person who wouldn't like to eat pizza. I like Capriciosa, Barbecue, the one with parma ham... Generally, I like pizza. But not only the one from pizzeria, but also homemade. They can be very tasty and you can try many options, for example cake - classic or wafer (have you tried?), favorite ingredients and you can make yourself a piece of pleasure ;)

I have a weakness for pizza !! I eat pizza once a week. I don't buy pizza. I do it with my girlfriend. Then is the best :) I like italian pizza on thin crust with ham, mushrooms, salami, onion and black olives. It is a pity that the pizza has enough calories :(

Well-baked and crunchy is a benchmark of good pizza cake. I agree, while I don't dislike sea food, they don't really fit anywhere on pizza for me. Even anchovies, some peoples favourite topping.

Hawaiian pizza? P r o f a n i t y.

Seriously tho, that's the best thing about pizza, you can make it literally any way you want. Only the cake is static, you can change the sauce for barbecue, you can remove the cheese (ate no-cheese pizza in italy once, just tomato sauce and garlic, pretty good), you can add any silly thing you want and it's still a pizza. Can't do that with pork chop.

I have always wondered why pizza is fast food, you can't make it in 5 minutes. I like pizza very much. In fact probably there isn't any kind of pizza I don't like. It depends on pizza restaurant and who makes it. The safest choice for me is Hawaii pizza. I like food which is sweet and salty. My favourite dough is Italian, but in Poland it is very difficult to find real Italian dough. Real Italian pizza is dry for Polish people. Some time ago I met Italian man who told me that he gave more sauce because Polish friends told him that they don't like it dry. But maybe they meant something different :)

I love pizza especially Italian one on thin crust with prosciutto, mozzarella and sliced champignon mushrooms. I have also my favourite restaurant in Livigno, where I have eaten the tastest pizza ever.
I love pizza! It is probably my favorite food in the world. What’s most amazing about it, is the possibility to choose ingredients that you like.
Pineapple, capers, olives or artichoke are example of ingredients that some people love and others hate, and you can choose if you want them on your pizza.
The possibility to make pizza only of your favorite ingredients makes it the most amazing (in my opinion) food in the world. I usually like pizza with thin crust, but I definitely have to try Chicago Deep Dish Pizza, because it looks SO amazing.

I prefer a pizza with a balance of elements; a mixture of veggies/fruit, meat, and cheeses is needed. My best combination:
- pepperoni
- sausage or bacon
- green peppers
- pineapple
- pepper-jack cheese
- [optional] olives

In my opinion best pizza is served in pizzahut. My favorite one is called texas. It's with bbq sauce, chicken, cheese and green pepper. Pizza is the most popular food in the world.

Your post made me to order a pizza:) Not online, but in the local pizzeria down the street. I'm not a fan of cooking (and cuisine I guess) and I can't say for sure which one is my favorite, any classic pizza like pepperoni seems to be delicious in it's own way.

What a coincidence. Today I ate pizza for mine dinner! Pizza is the best companion to cold beer! If you are tired of big pizza companies check out the best pizza in Warsaw at Barska street. They are gods of pizza, love this restaurant!
Personally I love pizza as well, it's one of my favourite dishes and definitely favourite fast food, if we can call it some sort of fast food, because personally I don't consider it so.

I guess I'm not too demanding, as probably typical Margheritta with good cheese is enough to satisfy me, but I also love more meat-y versions :). You made me hungry now, damn you! Glorious article :).

I like thin-crust pizza but I don't eat it very often. When I was little I liked pizza from Pizza Hut on thick crust with sausage pepperoni but now I don't eat meat. I prefer pizza with mushrooms and onions. The best pizza I ate in Sicily but also in Warsaw there are several places where you can eat really good pizza.

I love pizza, to be honest personally I don't know anybody, who doesn't love it. I prefer traditional, thin-crust italian one. Unfortunately, bigger part of my family prefer pizza hut with its american style pizzas :( I hope one day they will change their mind.
I am pizza lover! I wish I could go to the USA and try Chicago style pizza. I prefer American style pizzas than Italian ones. My favourite one is Hawaiian pizza. I know for many people its kinda profanity but who cares if they are so damn tasty!

AND DON'T FORGET: IN CRUST WE TRUST!

Pizza is the easiest and at the same time the tastiest dish for everyone. The super power of pizza is fact the everyone likes that food and you can preapre it even for vegeterian or vagan. Recipes for pizzas are innumerable, everyone has different formula and use various ingredients what make that dish special. On every continent and in every country you can eat pizza and sometimes that is your lifeline in exotic and unknown place.
I like Italian pizza more than American, but, from time to time, I order also the latter.
To me, the best pizza is the thin crust one, baked in a wood-fired oven and served with olive oil. When it comes to ingredients, I prefer traditional pizza, without sea food or sweet elements like pineapple.

As all of us, the same with me - I like pizza :D
It's interesting fact, but I don't like to eat. Maybe it's strage, many people say it, but it's a fact.

In my opinion , there are two kinds of people:
1. people who eat to live
2. people who live to eat.

I'm definietly in this first group. I eat to live and that's all. I don't like to try new dishes. Just prefer to eat tested one.
But second interesting fact is that I like to try new kinds of pizza. With many different, often strange, additions. I don't know how it works. It's my second self that's why I really like pizza. When I order new kind of pizza, I wait for it as kid for a gift. ;)

Yesterday I ate pizza named "Góralska" (sheep cheese, onion, bacon, cranberry, tomato sauce, Piccorella) in Dominium pizzeria. Very tasty. Try it!

I like generally every pizza, no matter if thin-crust or thick, crispy or not. My grandmother used to prepare some very thick pizza, maybe it'd be better to say cake cause her pizza was about 7 cm high with enormous amount of ingredients.
Recently I've eaten pizza with duck and pumpkin in Aioli, it was really delicious. I like the Italian style pizza with plenty of rucola. I've never eaten Persian pizza with dates, I even haven't thought of adding fruits to pizza (besides pineapple and corn of course), however that could taste wonderful. I'm definately going to try it!
At home I often prepare pizza with bought fresh dough and my own ingredients which are at hand at the moment.
If I had to choose my favourite ones I eat Hawaiian pizza and Capriciosa (with ham and mushrooms) the most often so I'd choose these "classics". However I love experiencing new untypical tastes.

To be honest, I don’t meet anybody who doesn't like pizza. Personally I’m a big fan of this meal. I like the most pizza in the Italian style. Thin crust with tomato sauce, black olives, arugula, Parma ham with feta cheese.. this is the best combination of ingredients in the world ! Despite my “love” for pizza, I really don’t like it in American style.
Pizza is the best meal! :D
I love pizza and I enjoy eating it basically everything :)
The best pizza I have eaten so far was in London. There was small Italian restaurant near Trafalgar Square. Their pizza was amazing no words can describe this taste :D
Yeah American isn't that good as Italian pizza! :)
And one more thing to add:
it isn't so hard to make it at home. You need to spend approximately 30min to prepare great pizza :D

Probably all of us have great memories connected to pizza. I think that pizza is a very “social” type of food. We mostly eat it with friends on parties. I remember when I was 16 we liked to buy some pizza and cola and play computer games. Also, pizza became a #1 dish on IT events. And I feel like a lot of developers would it only pizza if they ever had a chance.
I’m not a huge fun of pizza. I never eat it alone. Eating pizza is an act of conformism for me, just for being a part of a group and have fun together.
I’m not sure that pizza is great for your brain power. I love to eat food that helps my brain works. So actually you can study less time (but more efficient) and have more free time.
I am not sure about we can call it a pizza fast food, I mean pizza in the restaurant not frozen from supermarket. The preparation of good pizza it is really hard, especially as you are doing it for the first time- appropriate dough is the main key to success and you should from the beginning to focus on that. Myself i try not to eat in portals like pizza portals because often they save on ingredients and you have limited interference with the pizza components. Of course, the best will always be that which we do ourselves.

20 something comments, and nobody who would claim to dislike pizza. Just beautiful. Pizza is the inspiration, the tenth Muse.

Ate it once, it's just great. Not a fan of onion on pizza, but sheep cheese as topping really does the right thing.

I really love pizza so it's good and also bad. Good because it's tasty and i really enjoy when i eat it but it's also bad because it's caloric. My stomach regular rise when i eat that kind of food. nn Spring i should reduce eating caloric food which include pizza. My favourite pizza it's with a lot of cheese, pepperoni, mashroom and hot pepper which called jalapenos. I prefer pizza on thick crust with garlic sauce.

Pizza pizza pizza what a delicious word to pronounce. I'm a fan of pizza. When I think about ordering some food or go out somewhere to a dinner - pizza comes in mind. The best thing about pizza - you can make it from every food you have in fridge. You can add some sorts of meat, vegies, add a lot of cheese and you are set up. What a wonderful dish :)
My favourite pizza always was the one with pineapples, chicken and corn. Usually it calls Hawaiian. I really like how sweet pineapples comes with sauce and chicken and the taste they create together.

I'm hungry because of your article... Thanks ;D. But seriously I love pizza so much. I could eat it everyday for breakfast, dinner or supper. Many people says that pizza is unhealthy because of bad ingredients quality and there is no possibility to deny but if pizza is made from good quality products then it's healthy like normal food. Pizza has many calories so it's not prefered by people on diet.

My favourite type of pizza is real Italian pizza, with thin and crusty dough. Althouth from time to time I like to order some unhealthy American style pizza for example from Domino's Pizza.

My favourite pizza is Hawaii, but I like to experiment so I try new types of pizza each time I order it in different places, cities and countries.

I really like pizza and reading this article has in fact made me hungry. I like to have mine as simple as possible so most of the times I order a margarita or the one with just pepperoni. It is a very interesting thing that this food was in fact created as the food for the poor (the ingredients were easy to find – flour, water and toppings which were all you had at home, leftovers) became so popular and that people almost around the world are crazy about it. Now however they make the pizzas more and more fancy and fashion that they originally were, for example you can have a pizza with nachos or Nutella.

For me, the rule is simple: more meat - better pizza. Anyway, the most tastiest pizza i've had in my life was made entirely from three different kinds of goat cheese (apart from dough of course). I was pleased that pizza without meat could be so tasty. I've heard that Italians are less prone to different types of cancer because of tomatoes used in pizza sauce, so i wouldn't be suprised if gods in Olympus eat pizza everyday.

Nice article. My favorites pepperoni pizza with salami slices, it’s just heaven. For all of you, please notice that in Italy pepperoni pizza means pizza with pieces of pepper so don’t be surprise to see your favorite pizza without salami and with weird yellow or red vegetable. I like pizza in Italian style, thin crust, and lots of herbal spices.

Most of the time I order vegetarian pizza or quattro fromaggi. Since I'm a vegetarian I always cause trouble when I order it with friends (no one likes pizza without meat). There are pros of this situation - today when we ordered pizz no one wanted to eat "mine" so I had entire one for myself.
I love pizza as I think most of people. I started to eat lot of it at my work - it is the easiest type of food that you can order, it's fast and the taste is very repeatable. I like Italian style pizza but with meat on it and lot of Jalapeno. Especially on winter it makes you worm in seconds.

My two bests are Mexicana and one that I've tasted at Telepizza which I hated for about 10 years, but after that I'm ordering it from time to time - it's called "Królewska Gouda" and this is one pizza with a different type of ultra thin dough. It's with bacon really a lot of Gouda cheese and tomatoes, and for desert two types of sauce on it. It is a must !

I like a typical Italian pizza. Once I had the opportunity to try this in Venice and it was delicious. In Poland there are more and more pizza restaurant which does traditional pizza that tastes great. I can recommend Vapiano, the best pizzeria in Warsaw. Even the atmosphere of the restaurant is great. Herbs are everywhere, people drink wine, talk loudly, from the entrance smells of baked pizza. I recommend!
Unknown said…
Yeah, everybody loves pizza! I always ordered pizza with mushrooms and ham, but lately I liked the vegetarian one as well. The thing is that on the veggie pizza there is always more ingredients than on the other types with meat. Usually I order half with ham and half veggie. But the most important is of course the cake. It has to be thin, I don't like the very big ones. The more ingredients you can taste, the better the pizza tastes. I miss the Italian pizza a lot... :)

I eat pizza sometimes, because it's kind of junk food. My favorite one is peperoni. I can eat unlimited number of it. Even now, during writing this comment, I'm hungry :D

I love the Italian type of pizza, that is baked in a wood-burning stove with a lot of cheese, ham, mushrooms, olives and tomatoes. Of course, if it is made by italian people it is even better. The pizza, which you can order by phone like Telepizza is not right, I guess, it has no soul:)) But when you are very hungry, then ok. But I love tasty food, and for be better no pizza, then the wrong one.

I love pizza and I think I could eat it every day, until the end of my life. I don't like too many things on my pizza. Usually what I like to have on it are tomatoes, mozzarella and fresh basil. Here in Warsaw, I can recommend you a restaurant called "Mąka i Woda", I ate the best pizza in town there (best I know of).
I also like to make pizza at home, every time I try making it it ends up being a little bit different.
I think buying a baking stone would improve my creations greatly.
Mmmm, I feel hungry after reading this article. My favourite pizza is Quattro Formaggi. The best pizza I ever ate was in the Italian restaurant in Livigno. Somebody told me that the best way to test the pizza place is to order a pizza Margherita. If they can make a delicious Margherita then they know what they are doing. I think I can agree with that.

I am a huge fan of pizza! And I don't know a person who doesn't at least like it.
My favourite pizza is Italian style on a thin dough with delicious tomato sauce. However it is not like I don't like a pizza on a thick dough - I love it too. I don't really like "pizzerinas" that are usually sold in bakeries. And I hate the taste of frozen pizzas.
My favorite pizza is the one that I don't have to pay for. I also got really hungry right now and don't really have much in the fridge, so thanks for that :D I'm not a huge fan of pineapple on pizza, but hey, at the end of the day pizza is one of the best things that ever happened to mankind, so I won't complain even if I have to eat one of those Hawaiian.
Pizza is like my favourite food of all time. I have loved it since I don't even remember. My favourite pizza is this one I made by myself. I love making pizza. I used to do it every time after school with my friends. I like to think about myself as an expert of the matter. I like when there are various kinds of meat and good tomato sauce and a lot of cheese. Add some fresh basil on the top, Parmesan and some oregano and you have the best pizza. I don't like Hawaiian pizza. I just don't get this mix with pineapple.
