Week 12 [25.01.21-31.01.21] Stargate SG-1

Lately Stargate SG-1 aired on Netflix. Stargate SG-1 is Canadian/USA TV-series based in the same universe as Stargate Movie from 1994. The story begins 1 year after events presented in the movie.

Since 1994 Stargate Universe has grown featuring 3 movies, 3 TV-series, 1 web series and 1 animated series.

The basics

The main story starts on a strange theory that pyramids were landing pads for alien ships in Ancient Egypt. A mysterious annluar object was discovered in the close proximity of Great Pyramid in Giza. This object happened to be the Stargate - an alien device enabling people to travel across the galaxy (and beyond) in a blink of an eye.

Stargate Command is located in an Air Force Base in Cheyenne Mountain Complex. The complex is found in Colorado (Colorado Springs). Stargate device is on level 28 below ground well protected and supervised 24h/7d.
US government supervises whole operation, funding exploratory missions all across galaxy.
Missions are conducted by special military teams named SG-x where x is a number.
In TV-series Stargate SG-1 we witness events happening to the team SG-1.

In Stargate Movie (1994) main antagonist is the Egyptian "god" Ra living on planet of Abydos. He is worshipped by indigenous people of abydos which have cultural resemblence to people living in Ancient Egypt. Humans from Earth destroyed Ra's ship and freed the people of Abydos.

Aliens and Gods

In TV-series Stargate SG-1 we dig down deeper into the Stargate Universe. Egyptian Gods happen to be alien parasitic species known as the Goa'uld. Goa'uld are snake-like creatures that "possess" a host. They subdue their victims and lock up their personality, claiming a victim's body as their own. The host organism possess unhuman strength, regenerative abilities.

Goa'ulds in ancient times transported humans from Earth (Tau'ri) to other planets under their own dominion. These people were ought to worship them and serve forever.

Whole series presents many human gods from various mythologies e.g. Thor, Ra, Anubis, Loki, Yu, Ba'al, Osiris, Apophis and many more.

Trivia

Our real life Cheyenne Mountain Complex bunker used to be an Air Force base, possibly the space branch. Currently, after D. Trump created Space Force branch the bunker is designated as Space Force base.
There is a broom closet named Stargate Command in this base.

Richard Dean Anderson, executive producer and the actor who played Jack O'Neill (with 2 l's as he reminded in the series) in 2004 was granted honorary rank of Brigadier General of Air Force for presenting Air Force in positive light.

Comments

1. Oh my god, I used to love this as a child! You brought back so many memories, I must find it and binge watch it immediately! I watched it only on TV so I probably skipped some episodes. Will be fun to organise the facts.

2. I must admit that I watched A LOT of series during the pandemic. Fortunately, I mostly watch them as a background to working on projects, so I don't feel like wasting to much time, however, I would probably get things done faster without the series... Most recently I rewatched Sense8, a beautiful series made by Wachowskis sisters about a group of people that are somehow connected through their minds. There are characters from Korea, UK, India and even from Kenya. Wachowskis insisted to record at the locations rather than on greenscreen so the series feels like an epic world adventure. I solely recommend it, I just must warn you, it's... not for kids ;)

3. I like the concept but as science-fiction. I know some people are really believing that aliens must have build pyramids in Egypt and those in Mexico because they are so similar and humans back then didn't have a chance to exchange information over such distances. However, the pyramid structure is just the simplest way to achieve a bigger structure. Laws of physics are the same all over the planet, so they just came up with the same idea. Such as the invention of fire and growing food, it happened more or less simultaneously in many regions, not spread from just one place. Also, pyramids in Egypt are about 4500 years old and oldest Mexico pyramides are 3000-year-old so why would aliens just build them and leave to come back in the 1500 year, build some more and never come back again? This theory doesn't stick ;) it is fun tho.

@Adrianna Wróbel
Thank you for your comment :)
I've watched almost whole 10 seasons of SG-1, this series has kind of 90's/early 2000 vibe but surely it's worth watching.

I've watched first season of Sense8 and sadly couldn't get into 2nd season, that was little too big difference for me.

1. Have you ever heard of Stargate Universe. If not, are you encouraged to watch it?
I've heard of it, but I was never encouraged enough to give the series a shot. After this article though I will propably watch it.

2. What series have you binge watched during pandemic?
Oh, there are a lot of series that I've watched during the pandemic. The ones that I believe are worth mentioning are "The Office" and "Great Pretender". Recently I've binge watched "Lupin", it's really fun to watch.

3. What do you think about alien origin of mythological gods?
I don't think I would believe in alien origin of mythological gods, but it's a nice scenario for a TV show, as shown by "Stargate"

1.
Yes, I've used to be a fan, started watching it as a child (SG-1) and then Atlantis and SG:Unvierse as a teen. I think the Stargate Universe is a great introduction to the sci-fi genre and it definitely helped fostere my imagination when I was younger.

2.
I don't really watch tv series anymore, so unfortunatly I haven't binge watched any shows lately.

3.
It's an interesting idea, worth giving some consideration, even though it's definitely controversial in scientific and archeology circles. I think there could be some influence from aliens in ancient times.

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...
