Week 3 [21-27.10.19] Will we still fly? The world is running out of pilots.

Before you start reading this blog, think about your own answer to the above question.
Do you know your answer? Remember and let's move on.

The biggest challenges for the aviation industry

More and more people love to travel and willingly explore new corners of the world. The whole world is flying more and more often. The industry is developing very dynamically and this is to continue. According to the largest passenger aircraft manufacturer in the world, the value of the global civil aviation market in the world is now $ 8.1 trillion and will grow by $ 600 trillion over the next 10 years. This will also increase the demand for pilots. According to research, at least 800,000 must be employed in the next two decades.

The US is facing a serious shortage of airline pilots

Over 200 thousand dollars and 1500 hours of flying - these are some of the requirements to obtain a pilot license from the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration). These expenses are intended for the completion of very good universities and pilot training, and even high earnings in the aviation industry still do not encourage potential candidates. There are other issues related to pilot training - flight programs in colleges do not have enough instructors to teach new students who immediately go to work in airlines after spending enough time in the air.
To better imagine the situation and learn a bit more, I invite you to watch the video below:

Solutions proposed by the US Congress:

  • Pilots can now receive certification in less than 1,500 hours if training takes place at some aviation schools,
  • extending the retirement age for pilots to 67 (from 65) and even the possibility of piloting as long as the pilot's health allows,
  • increase  of bonuses to new pilots to entice applicants
  • funding for flight training programs.

What will the future of aviation look like?

In my opinion, aviation will continue to operate and its existence will be dictated by the nearest changes that the Congress must urgently make. The situation should normalize over the next few years.

Questions:

  1. What was your answer to the title question before you started reading the blog? What is your answer after reading the blog? And why?
  2. What is your opinion about the profession of pilots and would you like to become a pilot?
  3. Have you ever flown by plane? What is your impression?

1. The first and second answer is ''of course that we will continue to fly''. In the United States they have a slightly different crew licensing system. as you mentioned, to sit in the right seat in the airline in the USA you should have 1500 hours of flight time. In Europe, the situation is slightly different when the training program is completed, the pilot has an atpl frozen license and can already apply for a job. this does not mean that we do not have shortage. I think that for everyone who thinks to be involved in aviation professionally, this is good news. The development of air transport will slow down at some point. First of all, due to airspace restrictions. If anyone is interested in this topic, I recommend reading about the North Atlantic Organized Track System.

2. I had my first contact with aviation at the age of 14, when I started a gliding course, 2 years later I started doing ppl license. Currently I am on the atpl theory. I consider the profession of a pilot to be the best I could do, the nature of work, the ability to commune with the great machine, the knowledge to be acquired, it all causes that I can not imagine doing anything else.

3. As in the second answer, I have been doing this for a long time so I had the opportunity to fly. When it comes to flights as a passenger, I best remember flights over the Atlantic, I think it is a great experience.

1. What was your answer to the title question before you started reading the blog? What is your answer after reading the blog? And why?
My answer was and still remains the same - We will fly. It's not possible that such a huge organization would collapse. The demand for this kind of services is growing from day to day.

2. What is your opinion about the profession of pilots and would you like to become a pilot?
I don't think i would want to. I think every job that would keep my away for the most days in a week from my own home would not be good for me.

3. Have you ever flown by plane? What is your impression?
Yes, plenty of times. It's nothing spectacular - it's just a way of transportation. Maybe the speed of kilometers traveled per hour is astonishing.

I think that no matter what, we will still be flying. Maybe it will be rare but it won't stop completely. I see that there is more and more flying companies collapse but there are still a lot of them with planes to fly. I don't think army would be able to stop their flight crew too. I think that beeing a pilot is a great job but it's hard for pilots to start their families, and spend time with them. This is the thing that really closed this job for me but of course when I was young I wanted to become a pilot. I think I will go get some course in the future just to try it but for now I flown only as a passenger.

1. At the begining I tought "of course we will fly, no matter what" and after reading this article I stay with my first answer - we will fly in the future, for sure. In my opinion flying industry is one of the most important industries all around the world. Everyday more and more people fly through the countires, continents and oceans. Flying has become normal way to travel and it develops very quickly, so I cannot imagine that it will stop in the future. For sure it will require changing the licensing system for young pilots and checking the health of older ones so that they can perform their profession as long as possible.

2. In my opinion, the profession of pilot, whether civil or military, is something special and the license is very hard to get. I used to want to be a pilot, but my health didn't let me.

3. Yes, a lot of times and even I am really scared every time, but on the other hand I love it. At the moment I can't imagine, for example, driving a car all day on holidays instead of spending two hours on a plane.

1. Airplanes were created little bit more than 100 years ago. So I think this industry is just waiting for the updates. Maybe it needs some impulse. For example, the lack of pilots could be one of them. I think companies will invest more money in developing autonomous systems for planes and transforming the pilot's job so they could maintain the systems during flights. So, of course, we will fly because of two main reasons: it is the fastest and the safest way of traveling that is available now.

2. For me, the profession of pilots is something very hard and very responsible. This job is for someone special, for someone crazy about planes and flights. And I am for sure not that kind of person.

3. Yes, of course. Every time I feel little bit scared but I always try to calm down by saying words 'it is the safest and fastest transport':)

1. It's hard to say. Planes are a fairly old invention. In the future they may be too small/slow/expensive/not eco-friendly to use them for transport. I believe that soon someone will create a teleportation machine or inventions such as "hyperloop" will come into use. After watching video i still think that humanity should invest in new long-range transport technologies.
2. It's not for me. :) It's very hard and responsible job, combined with quite irregular working hours, must be very exhausting. I wouldn't like to be a pilot due to the above reasons, also it must be quite boring when you have 10h flight and 80% of time you use autopilot (I don't know it, so don't yell at me :))
3. Yes, a lot of times. I was never scared of flying. I find it more comfortable and faster than train or car transport.
s15487 said…
1. My answer was unchanged. Why? Because can see on my own example that I can fly more and more while cheap airlines constantly opens new connections that allow me to reach new destinations at really affordable prices.

2. I have huge respect to this profession and I wouldn’t agree that is not respectful occupation. I knew it requires a lot of practice, but I didn’t realize it last so long. I wouldn't like to become a pilot, considering the general cost of preparation, general effort and enormous responsibility I couldn’t even take it into consideration.

3. I have flown 24-26 times and I would say it's generally surprisingly gentle and comfortable (maybe except the annoying noise). I really enjoy flying, especially observing land during the take-off and lading.

1. What was your answer to the title question before you started reading the blog? What is your answer after reading the blog? And why?
Before article: Yes even if there will be lack of people that are capable of flying a plane there still will be private pilots for the elite and some wealthier civilians.
After: Still the same, we will flight. Right now there can be a problem in the number of pilots but it is because of huge boom as more country are building airports and I believe in few years the situation will stabilize.

2. What is your opinion about the profession of pilots and would you like to become a pilot?
Pilots needs a lot of knowledge and training and above that high stress resistance as no one knows what may happen up in clouds. It is quite fascinating profession to say the least but I wouldn't want to become one, it won't suit me at all.

3. Have you ever flown by plane? What is your impression?
Yes to Bulgaria and back. Really fast and pleasant experience. I was scared on the airport but after sitting in plane I was excited. Only the landing was a bit painful because of rising pressure.
Bartosz Waś said…
1, My answer before reading the article was that we will certainly still fly. The aviation industry is too big and mature nowadays to just stop operating. Huge money is made by Airlines and huge money is put into development in this field. All major domains like logistics, travelling, military etc are affected, improved and strongly based on it. My opinion is that when the crisis of pilot employment will start reaching its peak aviation companies with probably the help of governments if needed will start coming up with solutions to encourage new people to join the business. After reading and seeing US Congress plans my opinion doesn't change.

2. I have a good opinion of the pilot profession. I see them as highly professional, well trained and responsible people with a set of specific attributes. I have never thought of becoming one. It sounds interesting but It's rather not my filed of interest.

3. I have flown a plane a few times. My impression is good. Often it feels uncomfortable but I just treat it as a way of getting from one place to another fast.
1. After reading your post and before I still think that yes, we will be flying and it won’t stop all of a sudden. As you mentioned in the article, there are still more people willing to fly around the world so if there is no good alternative. I think it will stay how it is.

2. Being a pilot is a very stressful and responsible job. I don’t think I could handle constant fact of changing the place, especially so fast. You need to love it very much, even more than in any other profession.

3. Yes, I have flied many times. I really enjoyed it, adrenaline levels get high and you feel the pressure that goes through your body. Apart from the fact that it’s the safest way to travel, it always gets me think how it will look when the accident would take place.
1. Both before and after reading my answer is – yes, we will still fly. The solution to such problems is always free market which ensures that there is a balance between demand and supply. Low number of pilots could increase the cost of flying to reduce the demand and on the other hand, pilots could be encouraged by for example those US Congress ideas. It is simply impossible that such lucrative industry will disappear.

2. I respect pilots very much, because they are responsible for the safety of hundreds of passengers on the plane. It is not an easy job and each one of them has to commit himself to high costs and unimaginable time of training. Furthermore, their job is necessary for big companies to work. I wouldn’t like to become a pilot myself, because I have already chosen a different path, but I’d probably enjoy it if I became one.

3. Yes, a couple of times. Flying by plane itself is very enjoyable. You can feel the power of huge engines and watch the ground from above. The only annoying aspect is the amount of time you have to spend at the airport and the security check which requires to hand over many things and then quickly collect them back and not to lose anything.

My answer to the title question before I started reading the blog post was simple - yes. Traveling by air is the fastest way to travel all around the world and these days planes are comfortable enough to feel good even during long flights. Reading this post didn't change my answer. I think it's just a matter of time when the planes will be autonomous and won't need pilots.

In my opinion being a pilot is interesting but mostly at the beginning of the career. I think that I would not like to be a pilot. Being out of home all the time is definitely not for me.

Yes, I fly quite often and at the beginning when I was a kid it was like "WOW", but now it's just normal. I like flying because as I said at the beginning - it saves a lot of time and in most cases is the only reasonable way to get somewhere.

1. What was your answer to the title question before you started reading the blog? What is your answer after reading the blog? And why?
My decision haven't change. Travelling develops and flying is the fastest and easiest way of transport. Few years ago I was considering my future as a pilot, but schools and courses were too high and I couldn't effort that expenses. I think, if there will be some fundings for trainings for new pilots, I would consider change of profession.

2. What is your opinion about the profession of pilots and would you like to become a pilot?
Yes, I would love to become a pilot. Work as a pilot is a great responsibility but earnings are really nice and it is fascinating job. I love being at high altitude and I certainly don't have fear of heights, what can be helpful ;)

3. Have you ever flown by plane? What is your impression?
Not once not twice. It is frightening and wonderful in the same time. I'm always scared of landing because of my tendency to bad thoughts. But starting and flying itself are awesome.
1. “Yes” and “yes”, there’s no another option. Anything that highly required as flights can’t and won’t go out. How there can be any other option?
2. It must be a thrilling and responsible profession. I wouldn’t want to be a pilot on a daily basis but it would be nice to try and fly one as a second pilot someday. I think there are some offers like this.
3. Yes, many times. My first flight was when I was a child which is really helpful – I know that people who fly for the first time in the adulthood may be terrified of flying. For me, the first impressions were irritation and pain as I couldn’t handle the pressure difference as a child and my ears were killing me. Nowadays, it is just indifference about the flying process and satisfaction knowing I will spend just 1,5 -2 hours getting to a place instead of 15-20 hours.

I don't think we're gonna stop flying. Planes are the safest and fastest way to get around. And certainly very profitable. Aviation is developing every year more and more. And it makes sense to invest in making the systems automated. I can say with confidence that every year we will see improvement in aviation. New planes, new systems.
The pilot profession is very responsible, so I never thought about being a pilot. Training is very long and expensive.
I like flying. Every time I feel such admiration. I like to look out the window.

What was your answer to the title question before you started reading the blog? What is your answer after reading the blog? And why?
My answer was and it is still - yes, we will fly. Obviously. Lack of pilots, of course, could lead to rise in price of tickets but it also will lead to high pay.
What is your opinion about the profession of pilots and would you like to become a pilot?
My opinion that being a pilot is a huge responsibility, I deeply respect and admire their work. But I am not sure that I could be as good as some of them.
Have you ever flown by plane? What is your impression?
Yes and I love it.
1. Of course, that we will continue to fly, seeing the question posed in the title, I didn't hesitate for a moment that it could ever be different. Statistically, after all, it's the safest mean of transport, many people use it every day, because it's the most effective transport to move between countries or even shorter distances. After reading the blog, I won't change my mind, because I think that for a long time people won't find a better option of transportation than a plane.

2. No, I would not like to become a pilot, because this profession in no way connects with my interests. I believe that becoming a pilot requires really great dedication, knowledge, regularity and skills. After all, the pilots are responsible for all the passengers they carry, which is why I could not cope with such pressure and thoughts that something could happen to the machine or the weather at any moment.

3. Yes, I happened to fly many times. At first, taking off and landing made the biggest impression on me. Now, after many flights, I can say that I am most stressed at the time of turbulence. Sometimes they are really powerful and unbearable, which is why I feel very uncomfortable.

1. Yes is the answer to both question. Plane as for now is the fastest way to travel long distances. I never thought that could be shortage of pilots. But i did heard many opinions that pilots would be among first jobs replaced completly by artificial inteligence.

2. I've newer considered becoming a pilot. I never thought of what it means to be a pilot. form me is a job like any other.

3. Yes. I did fly. For me is calming

1. What was your answer to the title question before you started reading the blog? What is your answer after reading the blog? And why?
After reading the headline and the question in it, I thought that it’s okay, we will fly anyway, since in the near future automated systems for controlling aircraft will be developed. But if honestly, I heard about the global shortage of pilots, this is most likely due to the fact that there are very large requirements and very big risks for working in this area. Maybe that's why many people do not choose the profession of pilots.

2. What is your opinion about the profession of pilots and would you like to become a pilot?
I find the profession of pilot very interesting. Sometime in childhood, maybe I wanted to become one. It is very interesting to travel and this profession allows you to do this. This is especially good at a young age, but then, with age, you have to sacrifice time and family in order to make the next flight, or maybe even several in a row.

3. Have you ever flown by plane? What is your impression?
Yes, quite often I fly recently. To be honest, I don’t feel great amazing impressions. Probably already used to it. In the 21st century, people now perceive airplanes as another mode of transport. Most have no emotions. Most likely in children.
1. My answer is "Yes" for both questions. Flight is the fastest way for traveling long distances, and one of two options to overcome the oceans.

2. The pilot's profession is one of the most responsible in the world, they are responsible for the safety of their passengers and in the event of any failure they are the only chance for a safe flight. Personally, I would not like to work as a pilot, traveling too often is exhausting for me and I am a person who prefers to work stationary from my home.

3. Yes, I flew a lot when I was very young. I like it and I have no problems with it.
Kuba Berliński said…
1. My answer was yes and it still is a yes. Only US is mentioned in the article and honestly earning a pilot license does not require US citizenship. Funding training programs and providing good salaries will encourage more and more people afterall.

2. I think it takes a lot to be a pilot and not everyone can become one, at least not easily. I wouldn't like to be a pilot for sure as I am afraid of height and I am afraid of flying in general.

3. Yes, I have. As I mentioned above I'm afraid of heights so it wasn't very comfortable to me. However, I really enjoyed the view once I got somewhat used to the situation. Being able to see that is fighting the fear.

1. Before reading the blog, I thought it was related to training problems from training staff and from money. As you can see, I wasn't too much wrong.

2. I think this is one of the most interesting jobs you can do. You travel around the world, visit new places, earn good money. However, there is one big minus - you are almost not at home at all. And that's why I wouldn't like to be a pilot.

3. Yes, I have flown several dozen times. For me it is simply a type of transport, nothing exciting.
1. Firstly I thought that there is no reason why we wouldn't be able to fly in the future. The profession of a pilot is popular, prestigious and well-paid, so I thought there is no problem with candidates. After reading this article and watching the video I started to notice the problem with shortage of potential pilots, proper schools and education and increasing amount of flights.

2. I have a huge respect for pilots. It's a profession that requires many sacrifices, perfect health and great responsibility. I definitely wouldn't like to become a pilot, I prefer less extreme professions with way smaller responsibility.

3. I have flown a plane about 3 years ago from Warsaw to Manchester. I loved it, the view from the plane was beautiful, the whole experience of check-in, boarding and flying a plane was great. Although there was a minor inconvenience because of turbulence at the end of the flight, I still enjoyed that experience.
1. Of course flying will not go anywhere. It's most convenient and safest mean of transport for long distances. It's incredible how world shrunk after flights were commercialized. And giving up on it would be huge step back in progress and basically in every other thing.

2. I think this is very important profession and I'm sure it can be stressful sometimes. I would never won't to do it myself so I'm glad that there are people passionate about it and want to do it.

3. Yes, multiple times. And I hate it. I don't feel safe or comfortable on plane so every flight is big deal for me. On the other hand, this is the best type of transport you can have for long distances so I can't really complain.

1. My first answer was "Yes" after reading the blog it stayed the same. I think aviation industry is too profitable and precious to lose so government will take steps to attract more young pilots and improve their financial and working conditions.

2. It is really responsible and hard occupation. It takes a lot of time, work and money to become pilot. It's also interesting job as you are able to visit places around the globe. I personally wouldn't like to be a pilot as I get homesick really easily.

3.No, I haven't. Although I' m a little terrified I am also eager to have such experience.
Ivan Mazuryk said…
1. Yes, of course, that's my answer to both questions. The disappearance or significant reduction in the number of flights will have huge impact on world logistic and tourism. Which in turn will kill the global economy, which is essentially not possible.

2. Every boy at least once dreamed of becoming a pilot, because of these cool stereotypes about pilots. But becoming a pilot is not as easy and fun as it seems. You have to be physically fit, mentally alert, emotionally stable, spend thousands of hours on training simulators and studying boring theory.

3. Yeap, flying is the best way to travel. Idk, feels like a flying bus? :)
1.What was your answer to the title question before you started reading the blog? What is your answer after reading the blog? And why?
It is similar before and after. I know the subject, I have a friend who wanted to become a pilot, the requirements and hard work and the stress associated with it are amazing. I am not surprised that we lack pilots.

2.What is your opinion about the profession of pilots and would you like to become a pilot?
No never. This is not a profession that I like, besides, it is associated with great stress and a sense of responsibility. It's just not for me.

3.Have you ever flown by plane? What is your impression?
I flew as an ordinary passenger. I love the moment of the start, the acceleration in which it sticks me in the armchair. Plus of course great views when I'm sitting by the window.

1. My answer stays unchanged - we will definately still fly. Aviation is crucial for nowadays society and economics, so I am more than sure that proper actions will be taken in order to avoid this huge problem in the industry.

2. I would love to become one. One of my big goals in life is to get a pilot's license to be able to fly one of those light and small aircrafts.

3. I love travelling, so I fly on regular basis. When I was a kid i loved the take off moment, but now it really feels like taking a flying bus.
Szymon Kluczek said…
1. My answer before and also after reading a blog is the same. I think that we will still fly, but because of problems that aviation industry is facing nowadays, like rising demand for worldwide flights, due to growing number of travellers; or lack of pilots, travelling costs for passangers will rise, tickets will be much more expensive than now, also low-cost airlines will no longer be in operation, so only well-off people will afford to travel by plane in the near future.

2. In my opinion it's very responsible and hard work. Pilots work under pressure all the time, they have to stay focused no matter what, they are responsible for the passangers, these factors make their job really stressful. Due to big pressure, pilots have to face everyday, I coudn't be one of them; ress resistance is one of the most important thing in this proffesion and my reaction to breaking load is entirely opposite, that's why I can't imagine myself working as a pilot.

3. Yes, I have. It was a really great experience, I could enjoy the bird's-eye view on the world, it was really amazing.
1. I haven't changed my opinion after reading the blog - I think that people will not stop flying as too many big businesses depend on fast traveling around the globe. If such companies discover that they are unable to operate properly due to lack of pilots, they will put their money to help the industry.
2. I admire pilots for taking the responsibility for hundreds of lives, however I wouldn't like to become one due to too much stress involved.
3. Yes, I flew multiple times as a passenger. The thing I enjoyed the most is the view.
1. My answer was that we will still fly, but after watching this video this may not be as frequent as it is right now. While still we will be able to travel all across the world, we will have the limitations by the fact that there will be much less terms.

2. In my opinion, it takes a lot of time, effort and money to become a pilot. I never wanted to be a pilot since my childhood and I still woudn't be. The fact of very long and hard work only pushes me away

3. I hahe flown by plane when I was around 8. It was a holiday trip with my parents to Egypt. I remember being very scared when we started the flight, but as the time was passing, I got used to it and quite enjoyed it
Kgajewska said…
1. Yes of course we will. That was my first answer and after reading this blog I didn't change my mind. People will see that this profession will be needed and with some regulation changes the number of pilots will increase. Flying industry is crucial and as long as we won't invent some new way to cross long distances, it still will be important

2. I have a lot of respect for pilots. You have to sacrifice your time and energy to become one and this profession is very stressful. In the end you are responsible for passengers' life. No, I don't want to become one - its not my dream job and I dont have the predisposition to even think about it.

3. Yes, I've flown by plane. My first time - when i was little, was pretty good. For me it was funny experience, I didn't have the awerness that in the case of catastrophe the survival rate is pretty low.

3.
1. After reading the article title, I became interested in the author's approach and wanted to read it, because I always thought it was a very good profession and there are plenty of candidates.
After reading the article and watching the film, I noticed the problem of the lack of pilots, however, these fears now apply to most professions: doctors, teachers, IT specialists ...

2. Recently, I was interested in this profession and thought about starting a course one day. I heard that it is very expensive and the health test is very strict, e.g. a broken leg in childhood may prevent you from becoming a pilot.

3. I flew many times in the last year. My longest flight this year lasted 17 hours with a 1 hour change! I took a lot of medicine to survive the road .. I had no inconvenience. I just don't like to sit in one place for so many hours.
Before and after reading my answer to the question is the same. Yes, we will keep flying over larger distances however, we might change the type of vehicle. Elon Musk's idea of traveling by rocket to any place on earth in only 30 minutes made huge impact on people around the world. Sure it will not happen in upcoming few years but even 10 or 20 years is not really that far away. Either way, there still will be need for pilots. I would not want to be a pilot because this proffesion is very demanding, of course for many serious safety reasons. I have never been on airplane and i do not plan to be on one, i prefer traveling by car.

1. My opinion is the same all the time. We will fly more often. Technology is constantly evolving, autonomous aircraft are being tested. In times of globalization, travel has become simpler and cheaper.

2. The pilot's work is very demanding and stressful. The pilot is responsible for his passengers. I don't want to become a pilot, in my opinion this is too responsible profession for me.

3. Yes, several times. This is nothing extraordinary. Traveling by plane is tiring for me, especially pressure changes.

1. What was your answer to the title question before you started reading the blog? What is your answer after reading the blog? And why?
Before reading: yes.
After reading: yes. But not all of us. I didn't know about this crisis in this area. I see two possible ways - they will reduce the criteria for pilots, which will lead to an increase in the number of accidents, and eventually return to the past requirements for pilots, but reduce the number of flights, adjusting to the number of employees. Or... simply reduce the number of flights so as not to lose the quality of these flights, taking care of the safety of passengers in the first place, rather than the maximum profit

2. What is your opinion about the profession of pilots and would you like to become a pilot?
I think it's a very responsible and complicated profession. At the same time, it is very interesting. I like to watch the pilots at the airport. Ideal posture, good mood, tidy clothes. Great.
Would I like to become a pilot? More likely not. A high threshold of entry into the profession, and I like to travel, but not every week.

3. Have you ever flown by plane? What is your impression?
Of course, many times. Both domestic and foreign flights. Usually everything is very pleasant, although sometimes it feels like too many chairs, and very crowded. It was enough to remove 2-3 rows so that everyone else in the plane was more comfortable to fly. But no, the maximum profit...
In addition, not everyone knows about the etiquette in the plane, which also upset.
Okay, I see that everyone answered "yes" and "yes" to this first question. I am not surprised at all. Same as for the third. And I agree with you in question # 2 that the pilot's profession is very expensive, exciting and stressful at the same time. Thanks for the answers. Have a nice evening.
What inconveniences do you experience when changing the pressure?
So make this dream come true! I'll keep my fingers crossed!

1. Before reading: my answer was yes, we will fly more and more.
After reading: I dont change my answer, In my opinion it is the best possible type of transport for long distance which we can use. First of all it is the fastest one, moreover it is also the safest one. I dont see any serious disadvantages of using it, so I think it is sure that the usage of planes will be developing.

2. I have a huge respect for pilots. It is hard to become one and it demands a lot of skills and practice. What is more they have to strugle with time changes and the most imporant they are responsible for other people lifes. I think they are very clever and smart, probably they have some leader skills, because they have to make fast and right decisions.
When I was younger i would love to become a pilot, but now I know it is not a job for me. I prefer to stay with my relatives and be close with them at home. Also, this job requires some skills which i dont have.

3. Yes, a few times per year. I love to fly and travel by this kind of transport. My first impression was great. I like the moment when the plane starts. I prefer the long distance flights and bigger planes, because in the economic lines there is in my opinion not enough place for legs.
What was your answer to the title question before you started reading the blog? What is your answer after reading the blog? And why?
It is still the same. I think we will still fly. Although prices might change if shortage of pilots becomes a real issue.
What is your opinion about the profession of pilots and would you like to become a pilot?
I think it is quite interesting profession. However, I always thought it is really well paid from the start and after I watched the video I realised that this is not the case. I couldn't became a pilot even if I wanted to because of my health.

Have you ever flown by plane? What is your impression?
I have flown by plane many times. My first flight was quite traumatic (I was 6 years old) because I was sick and changes of pressure during start and landing caused my ears to hurt. Nowadays I find landing and starting the only interesting part of flying by plane.
1. My initial response to the question stated in the title was that of course we will fly, fly even further. Maybe outside our solar systems, as there are some serious attempts by the U.S government already put in action to colonize the Red Planet in a couple of decades. After reading the article I was a bit shocked that despite the social prestige of a trained aircraft pilot and descent income this job can offer, people decide to turn their backs on the aviation industry. Now, I understand that the struggle of achieving the pilot diploma is more harder than imagined by an average passenger. Despite the long-term problems with education of pilots, I still think that the industry, will carry on with new employees and our planes will have trained specialist in charge of taking us to our holiday getaway destination.

2. Since I was a little boy, I found something intriguing about outer spaces and planes. My opinion about pilots was always favorable. I think that people, who decide to devote their lives to clouds are amazingly brave, hardworking, and intelligent. After all being a pilot means not only knowing all the buttons within the operating deck, having good orientation skills, but also being extremely good in computing, math, physics. I have always thought of pilots as punctual individuals, who can be trusted, but remain stil; crazy enough to be ready for their own personal adventure. Their work is not easy, but somehow one of the most graceful and worthwhile options on the contemporary job market. However, don’t think that I would like to become a pilot myself, due to the fact that it would be hard for me to abandon my girlfriend, family, and friends for even a couple of months. Living on a luggage is no longer an enchanting prospect for me. I want to settle down on Earth.

3. So far, I have flown multiple times by plane. I choose this mean of transport at least once a year during every summer vacation. I really like being up in the air, but I hate taking off as I am a bit afraid of the sudden speed the plane takes. However, after the couple of minutes once the plane takes off to its spacial lane I feel comfortable and at poise.

Of course we will. I mean, unless somebody will invent a teleport it still will be the fastest way of travel for a long time (I heard about some extremely fast underground trains though, but I don’t really know anything about it, so I won’t brag, haha). After reading the blog my answer is still the same.
Pilots are brave and strong people, I wouldn’t have the guts to take such responsibility on my shoulders - just imagine, there’s like 100-200 people behind you and it’s just up to you if they’ll get where they’re heading safely. It’s crazy, I’m not that brave :)
Yes - as a passenger. I love flying, it’s always very relaxing to me, it’s just you and the clouds, good moment to dive deep in your thoughts.

1. My answer was “of course we won’t stop” and still is after reading the presentation. The thing is that the topic is about US pilots. Everyone knows that education in US is very expensive, and I think that’s the problem for their pilots. In my city in Ukraine there is one of two flight institutes to which people from abroad come to study. My childhood friend graduated as a pilot year ago and he is still in the waiting queue for pilot job in BPN airport. So no shortage in our country at least.
2. Yes, that’s a cool job from what I heard.
3. I have been a passenger countless times and it feels awesome every time :).

1.What was your answer to the title question before you started reading the blog? What is your answer after reading the blog? And why?
I'm sure we will fly, even after this post i think so. Such a big comapy won't colapse as easy as you think.

2.What is your opinion about the profession of pilots and would you like to become a pilot?
I don't want to become one but I think it's really responsible job.

3.Have you ever flown by plane? What is your impression?
no I haven't so I dont have any impression.
1.Before reading the blog I thought that there will be brighter future for airplanes and pilots but i didnt know about these issues. Nonetheless i think the payment problem is not too serious issue because it can be fixed and there are airlines that came up with very good ideas. Also the technology is upgrading too and that is very important reason. Flights will be easier and faster in the future with newer and better planes.

2.Piloting must be very hard and stressful job specially when we are talking about having all passengers lifes on our shoulders. When piloting privately doesnt sound like a bad idea being airline pilot is something immposible and too risky for me.

3.I've actually never been on a plane before but i want to try in the future
Both answers was positive and said yes. Mazbe it will be much less affordable but im more than sure that the future of aviation is stable.

I highly admire pilots. I would never like to become one not because im affraid of flying but because pilots taking responsibility for whole crew and passangers and sometimes you have to land in a fog and cant see antything. Its very hard job and very responsible.

I like flying. It's fast and fairly comfortable. I really like to see cities and the rest of the world from above. Also the little thrill during turbulence is really nice.
1. Before and after reading the blog and watching the material I think the same - of course we will still fly. I believe that technology and science are constantly evolving, planes will be constantly improved and pilots will be better and better trained.

2. I never thought about it but I don't think I had such a dream to be a pilot, and I still don't want it. I respect this profession because it is very difficult and responsible, therefore it should be very well paid.

3. Yes I have flown several times. I like it very much and I will definitely choose this means of transport.
What was your answer to the title question before you started reading the blog? What is your answer after reading the blog? And why?
1. I'm pretty sure that we won't run out of pilots. After watching this movie im still sure of it.
What is your opinion about the profession of pilots and would you like to become a pilot?
2.I was always intrested in flying and i always wanted to be a pilot.
Have you ever flown by plane? What is your impression?
3.Yes I flown small plane. It is easy, most of the time you just have to look up into 3 controls like height, velocity and destination.

1. My first answer was, yep, i guess we will continue to fly no matter what.
The second answer after reading the blog is the same but with even stronger belief.
The industry is so big and also the demand that they have to and they will figure something out which will work for future pilots.

2. I have a huge respect for profession of pilot. They serve public and play a huge role in global connection of the world. Id love to be a pilot but unfortunately my bad sight disqualifies me from applying.

3. Yes i have travelled by plane. The experience of flying alone is great but it can get really nasty if the flight lasts for 14 hours in economic class.

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...
