Some people say that if you taste craft beer
once, you won’t be able to go back to ordinary ones. A couple of years ago the
beer industry took a step back and small independent breweries started to pop
up like mushrooms in order to produce sophisticated, high quality beers that
would be much better than those made in huge factories in every respect. Craft
beer has become almost as respected alcohol as expensive whisky or wine and
tasting it is an art as well. I encourage you to watch a short talk about craft
beer and answer a few questions.
1. If you drink beer, do you like craft
beer, or you prefer popular brands? Can you give some examples of your
favourite ones?
2. Are you willing to spend more money
to get higher quality of the food?
3. How good is your gustatory
perception? Are you able to blindly recognize different types of particular
food or drink and perhaps to guess the ingredients?

Can you give some examples of your favourite
I'm not a beer drinker, and I don't drink. Tried crafting , thought it would be a little different aftertaste , but it was even worse. Tried in the pub Jabeerwocky smoked beer, the taste was like barbecue , sausage and cheese together. After that, I stopped trying craft beer. Sometimes I can afford a new Somersby mango&lime.
2. Are you willing to spend more money to get higher quality of the food?
Of course I'm willing to pay more for quality products. I don't eat much, so I can buy premium quality products. It immediately affects my well-being and skin quality.
3.How good is your gustatory perception? Are you able to blindly recognize different types of particular food or drink and perhaps to guess the ingredients?
I don’t eat meat other than chicken and seafood, almost all fruits and most vegetables. By the smell I think almost everything would be called.
Unfortunately, I am not a big fan of beer. It makes me sick and choose not to drink it. I prefer pure whisky or vodka.
2. Are you willing to spend more money to get higher quality of the food?
Absolutely yes, I always read components and taking care of good quality everything I eat. I have to do this because after eating low-quality products and food I was getting sick.
3. How good is your gustatory perception? Are you able to blindly recognize different types of particular food or drink and perhaps to guess the ingredients?
I am not really good in recognizing ingredients and flavors, but I am still learning, experience new flavors and having a great fun with it. I would recognized garlic for sure, though.
In regards of craft beer, I definitley support any experiments and often try something new. If alcohol is not the way for you to get wasted, but rather spend time elegantly with good company, then sure, why not to go for some exotic tastes?
Unfortunately, I am not able to answer this question. I do not drink alcohol at all, and beer in particular because of its bitter taste, which I am very sensitive to.
2. Are you willing to spend more money to get higher quality of the food?
Of course! However, provided that the quality of food will be better, not just "improved". Remember that what we eat affects our health and well-being, so it's probably worth investing in ourself?
3. How good is your gustatory perception? Are you able to blindly recognize different types of particular food or drink and perhaps to guess the ingredients?
I do not consider myself very good in the gustatory perception and recognizing products only on the basis of taste, however, most of the products and brands on the modern market I will rather be able to recognize with closed eyes because of the characteristic flavors.
I don't really like beer. I prefer drinks or vine.
2. Are you willing to spend more money to get higher quality of the food?
When it comes to food I can spend a lot of money on it. Good chef's work costs but it's worth it.
3. How good is your gustatory perception? Are you able to blindly recognize different types of particular food or drink and perhaps to guess the ingredients?
Well when I'm comparing my gustotary perception to other people I think I have it on really low level... I really can't recognize like 70% of some seasoning.
2. Yes, but not too much.
3. No, I do not need much. :)
Definitely agree that good chef's work is worth spending more money on it, if only you can afford that of course.
Sometimes I also like to drink something sweeter like Desperados or Reds.
2. It depends on the food item, not everything has to cost more to have better quality. However, I happen to spend more money on higher quality of the food.
3. It seems to me that my taste perception is quite good. I like cooking, I can choose the flavors to make the dish tasty.
Although I have never tried to guess the ingredients blindly but maybe now I will try :)
From popular brands I like "Desperados", "Warka" and of course my beer from the city "Łomża"
2.Who would not want better food? Surely, I'd rather spend more to get better quality.
Unfortunately, it's an obstacle, if I had to buy it
3. I think I am able to recognize more than a dozen flavors, beverages. The taste of licorice is so unique and unprofitable. Basic dishes such as "Bigos", popular soups
i easily recognizes. But rather, I will not be able to say, for example, what spices and what meat someone has prepared the dish for
I like to drink beer with friends. Sometimes we reach for popular brands such as Carlsberg, and sometimes we go for craft beer. I can recommend "Biernhale" near Arkadia.
As much as I am able to spend more money to get better quality products. I am from people who value quality over quantity. Our orgazni thank you yet!
My taste perception is on the middle level. I am often able to recognize a dish or ingredients. But a lot of flavors overlap and I can not recognize.
I want and i do spend more money on quality food, once you start lacking a nutrients and vitamins everything starts going wrong way. I have never used my gustatory skills proffesionally but i am able to recognize ingredients and types of food.
Of course I would and I am doing it, but for food not beer.
Definatelly no, I am not gourmet at any point but I do like tasty and high quality food, of course I can recognise some basic ingredients but no sophisticated ones.
1. I prefer only popular beers, popular brands, because it tastes the most to me. I do not like taste of crafted beer, not for me. My favourite beer? Heineken - that's it!
2. In my opinion, the food we currently have in stores is okay and very good quality for me. I do not think that food need change and no need to invest money to improve food taste and production quality.
3. I do not think that my gustatory perception is good. For me, food is food. Of course, I can recognize some ingredients, drinks, etc. but not too much. 60-70% I'd say. I'm not a taster. I eat to live and I do not live to taste ;) Life is too short to taste ;)
I prefer popular brands, but I also like trying something new, so I am trying to discover some new craft beer. Unfortunately, most of the craft beers, which I tried didn't taste very good.
2. Are you willing to spend more money to get a higher quality of the food?
Of course, I think we shouldn't economize on food or drinks. Because, when we try some new food and it tastes great it gives us joy and happiness. There is no problem paying more for more quality product at all, I like to drink beer with friends and I think the quality of beer influence the quality of communication.
3. How good is your gustatory perception? Are you able to blindly recognize different types of particular food or drink and perhaps to guess the ingredients?
I think my taste perception is at the middle level. I can easily recognize a dish or some ingredients, but when there is a lot of flavours or they overlap I can get confused.
I am totally indifferent about it. I am not a frequent alcohol consumer, and even if I drink it is usually some quality wine or bourbon.
2. Are you willing to spend more money to get higher quality of the food?
As the matter of fact I am doing exactly that for the past 2 years. (I guess visiting market and two different stores for food each Saturday is exactly what you meant.
3. How good is your gustatory perception? Are you able to blindly recognize different types of particular food or drink and perhaps to guess the ingredients?
Unfortunately I am not good at it at all. But I can cook without a recipe and it will still taste good.
2. Of course. But I don't want to spend more money on something I wouldn't enjoy.
3. It's just terrible. I can distinguish only two flavours - good and bad. But, I'm not very interested in food so I don't put a lot of thought in this.
I like craft beer, if i saw some honey beer i buy it, if some pub have not it i bought some dark one
2. Are you willing to spend more money to get higher quality of the food?
Yes, it’s not about taste but about health
3. How good is your gustatory perception? Are you able to blindly recognize different types of particular food or drink and perhaps to guess the ingredients?
I can recognize different wine, maybe dark from light beer, maybe some vegetables or fruits from different one. i dont know nothing about spice’s :)
1. If you drink beer, do you like craft beer, or you prefer popular brands? Can you give some examples of your favourite ones?
I do not like beer. For me, it is very unpleasant to the taste. The only option for me is to add fruit syrups. But even then I don’t have much joy in drinking this drink.
2. Are you willing to spend more money to get higher quality of the food?
Definitely. The best preparation and quality of products, in any case, means that the dish costs more. Cheap ingredients are a good substitute but often backfire. Like for example palm oil.
3. How good is your gustatory perception? Are you able to blindly recognize different types of particular food or drink and perhaps to guess the ingredients?
I think that I have an average level of these abilities. I definitely will not name the brand of the drink or what it consists of and how it was prepared. But if we talk about food, I can recognize the ingredients.
2. It’s all depend how much money I have and if this higher quality food is worth the price.
3. I must say that it’s not so good. Blindly I can recognize that I like or dislike something. Well if the ingredients have a very characteristic flavour or I really don’t like it then maybe I can recognize some of them.
About Your second question, it all depends on a taste of food or drink. I won’t eat anything that looks or tastes weird and I’m really strict about it. There is no problem for me to spend more money on something I really like to eat just because if I don’t like it then I won’t eat it.
I honestly don’t know how good my gustatory perception is. I think it’s pretty well and I can sometimes guess the ingredients of something but not always and I also don’t always check it :P
I do like beer, i'm a fan of heineken and budweiser. Also i like craft beer more than non-craft beer. My best experience was in Prague, i tried really delicious meal and beer.
2. Are you willing to spend more money to get higher quality of the food?
Sure, i don't understand when people eat sh*t and don't want to pay money for normal food. The result is they are looking like sh*t.
3. How good is your gustatory perception? Are you able to blindly recognize different types of particular food or drink and perhaps to guess the ingredients?
Unfortunately not, i'm not good at degustation because some of my tongue receptors are not feeling some spicy food or other normal tastes. I don't know how it happened, but when i was a child, i ate too much spicy food and maybe, because of that, i don't feel tastes fully.
When it comes to food i do sometimes pay premium to get some high quality food at my table, i believe that whatever suits us at given time should be our choice, one day i will eat low quality bland hotdogs from "biedronka" the other day ill have high quality Parma ham with cranberry on the side, but both choices should be made b me alone.
There are couple things i can recognize taste of, that would be tea, some coffee and ice creams :)
I saw wine testers take on blind test once and i could not believe how much they knew about wines alone it was crazy showcase of knowledge and thats what started me on my tea addiction.
I do drink beer and quite like craft beer. I can’t say that I have favourite ones but I really enjoy all kinds of IPA’a and APA’s.
2. Are you willing to spend more money to get higher quality of the food?
Yes, I’m willing to pay more for food of the higher quality, I think that if you don’t must you shouldn’t save money on food.
3. How good is your gustatory perception? Are you able to blindly recognize different types of particular food or drink and perhaps to guess the ingredients?
I think that my gustatory perception is quite good, I can easily recognize ingredients and spices used to make some kind of food that I’m eating, its slightly more difficult with drinks but still I think that I’m pretty good.
Unfortunately, I am not good at beer. It is not literate in this matter. And do not have any preferences. Experts say it comes with experience. I don't know yet ...
2. Are you willing to spend more money to get higher quality of the food?
In general, yes, ready. But it seems to me that if there is a bona fide manufacturer on the market, he will be able to find a balance between quality and price. Buyers tend to this, but unfortunately, few manufacturers are ready to go for it. This is a business. I wish there was a balance.
3. How good is your gustatory perception? Are you able to blindly recognize different types of particular food or drink and perhaps to guess the ingredients?
Oh,yeah. I can recognize the ingredients if I tried them of course before. I can say my taste memory is not bad.
Yes, currently I'm spending a lot on food. I have full diet from box-catering company. I really enjoy live more by eating well prepared, high quality, fresh food.
I'm rather blind in recognizing flavours in alcohol drinks, I'm astonished, when famous beer geek Tomasz Kopyra feels wet cardboard or other abstract things in his drinks.
Yes, I sometimes I go out with my friends to try some higher quality oriental food. There is a quote “you are what you eat”, so I don’t think it is a good idea to a lot of money on food.
I think it depends on the type of food or drink. I like cooking so I think I would be able to recognise some basic ingredients, but when it comes to alcohol I wouldn’t be able to recognise any beer.
My favourite is Somersby Forestfruits, i don't like other stronger beers becouse of their hard smack.
2. Are you willing to spend more money to get higher quality of the food?
Of course i am doing this, i think that higher quality of food makes me life longer and helthier.
3. How good is your gustatory perception? Are you able to blindly recognize different types of particular food or drink and perhaps to guess the ingredients?
I think i wasn't able to do it becouse i cannot focus while i have closed eyes, maybe i could recognize only my favourite by nose.
I don't like drinking beer, but in several occasions I tasted a lot of craft beer. A lot of my friends are intrested in the craft beers, even professionaly.
2. Are you willing to spend more money to get higher quality of the food?
I love eating good food, but it can be really expensive. Since I started working part-time job most of my money was spent on the food! I like buying it, but I know I have to restrain.
3. How good is your gustatory perception? Are you able to blindly recognize different types of particular food or drink and perhaps to guess the ingredients?
I once had been on the blind gustatory event and the chef told me I was the best! I guessed most of the ingredients and they weren't so simple.
Sorry, but I don't drink beer.
2. Are you willing to spend more money to get higher quality of the food?
I will and I do spend more money on more delicious food. Because what the sense of buying a tomato that tastes like plastic one?
3. How good is your gustatory perception? Are you able to blindly recognise different types of particular food or drink and perhaps to guess the ingredients?
I can differentiate different ingredients in complex meals. But I don't have special profile of food in which I specialise. Also I have a friend that can differentiate 0.5l, 1l, and 2l Coca-Cola by taste. If you are curious, he says that 1l one is the best.
2. Yes I am, but it doesn't matter because as a college student I can't afford better quality either way:P
3. I guess it depends on the type of food or drink we're talking about. With beers I would probably have a hard time telling the difference between some.
