Week 4 [05-11.11.18] WWF - “The Almost Dead Planet Report”

World Wide Fund of Nature is an international organization which helps to preserve the wildlife and protect environment, species and their habitats. Its goal is to put people attention to nature, show the consequences of their behavior and teach them how to protect nature.

Some days ago WWF published “The Living Planet Report” which is a document published every two years which analyze health of our planet. This year the outcome of the survey was so bad that scientists ring the alarm bells and warn the society.
In this article I would like to put your attention to environment and what we can do to protect it in everyday situations.

According to WWF report, in the last 40 years human activity caused 60% decline in size of population in all kinds of animals.
Main reasons of the losses in biodiversity is human consumerism, which increased rapidly in all parts in the world and still continue to raise. In result, habitats for many species disappear, animals lose their natural environments and eventually die. Based on the report in next 30 years humans will change over 90% of the Earth land and that will lead to more losses in species.

Another reason why people are responsible for animals’ extinction is hunting. Still in many countries people hunt on animals which are marked at risk of extinction. Some months ago, last white rhinoceros died and became extinct species. The reason of its extinction was mainly his horn and its big financial value as in some countries it was treated as aphrodisiac. People were hunting even though they knew the threat of extinction and that the decline in the population of another species.
It is said that scientists took the DNA of the last white rhinoceros in case of possibility to reproduce it in the future.
Maybe instead of “reproducing” animals we should focus on protecting those which are alive? In that way we won’t need to reproduce any of them.

The Next reason which I want to mention is trash. We made our planet drowning in mountains of trash. We produce a lot of it every day even by doing shopping and taking extra plastic bags which, you will throw away when you get home or by using one throwaway plastics on summer barbecue with friends. Have you ever noticed how much trash you produce?

Some time ago a lot of bars and restaurants joined the ecology movement “Tu pijesz bez słomki” which goal is to encourage people to stop using drinking straws. Based on their research in Poland we waste around 3 million of straws every day.
I highly recommend you join to this movement and stop using straws in bars or restaurants but if you really need to drink from a drinking straw, I suggest straws from glass or from stainless steel – they are reusable and good for the environment.
Another way of protecting the environment is a movement of reusable cups on all kinds of festivals. Instead of many plastic cups you pay a deposit for a reusable cup which you may use all the festival. In every new order you give your cup, they clean it and fill with your drink. When the festival ends you may give back the cup and get the deposit back.
What is really interesting,  more and more popular are reusable bottles with special filters which you can fill with tap water and drink anywhere. Instead of buying many plastic bottles you can have a reusable one. It is also more economic if you drink a lot of water on an everyday basis.

I think that in everyday situations we can change our behavior to be more ecofriendly and I encourage you to put attention to the environment before it’s too late.

Thank you for your time and I invite you to answer the questions below:

1. Have you heard about WWF “The Living Planet Report”? Do you think that this kind of report changes anything in people’s  minds?
2. Have you heard about “Tu pijesz bez słomki”? Do you participate?
3. What are your tips to protect the environment?

Comments

I've actually never heard of this WWF report. And to be honest, I'm not really looking forward to reading it. I imagine it's a rather grim and depressing report. And me reading it will not change how people kill animals. But I think it's a good thing they created it. Maybe some people who actually can make a decision, which could save those animals will read it.
I also haven't heard about "Tu pijesz bez słomki", but I agree with this. Right now we need more such movements, as people need to change their mind about how they affect the environment. And right now every single bit will help. It will take a lot of effort to avert possible ecological catastrophe, so the more people will take it to their heart, the better.
I personally try to limit my use of plastic, I ask not to pack my groceries in plastic bags and I always carry a reusable one with me. But I don't think this will be enough. So I also try to sponsor movements and people who are working actively on cleaning our environment and opposing some of the more dangerous decisions of our governments. And I think this is actually the way - not only personal responsibility but also support for people who are out there fighting for the planet.
Because, as George Carlin once joked, the planet is fine, it's people who are fucked.
1. Have you heard about WWF “The Living Planet Report”?
Do you think that this kind of report changes anything in people’s minds?

I have heard about WWF, but I have never heard about this report. I think it can change people attitude to the environment, but each of them should be forced to read it and think about it.

2. Have you heard about “Tu pijesz bez słomki”? Do you participate?
I have never heard about it and actually never thought it can be such a huge part of waste. I will surely stop using straws because I do care about environment.

3. What are your tips to protect the environment?
- stop burning in the heating stove items that are not suitable for this purpose (which pollute air)
- stop using cars, use bikes instead (at least for most of the year)
- stop throwing junk at random places (seriously is it so hard to find a trash can?)
- plant trees wherever you can :)
1. Have you heard about WWF “The Living Planet Report”?
Do you think that this kind of report changes anything in people’s minds?
WWF is a well-known organization – no doubt. However, is it all due to their ideas and goals? Or is it, perhaps, due to some controversial actions that WWF activists take?
“The Living Planet Report” is something I have never personally heard of. Can such report change anything in people’s minds? – SURE
But the main goal, before attempting to change people’s minds should be getting them interested in the report in the first place.
2. Have you heard about “Tu pijesz bez słomki”? Do you participate?
The “Tu pijesz bez slomki” action is not that popular amongst our society. I mean the awareness is not high enough. Most of the people not using straws simply don’t need them.
Personally, I do not use straws, but the choice was purely preferential rather than based on my worldview.
Additionally, finding out that a personal decision made rather unconsciously results in a contribution to a greater goal, only makes me lean towards drinking without straw more. What’s more, I will surely be sharing the idea with a justification with my friends and family.
3. What are your tips to protect the environment?
My biggest tip to protect the environment would be increasing the awareness. That would require a proper approach, not a controversial one, but a one that regular people would not find aggressive and invasive.
Having the idea accepted and assimilated would result in no major actions being needed, as even a small contribution from the majority of society would make way bigger difference than some huge actions from the side of minority.

Unfortunately, here I have to write with a heartache that I have never heard of this report and regrets it. I'll have to take a look at it for sure. I heard about the action "tutaj pijesz bez słomki" and honestly I have to say that I didn't even think how straws can have such an impact on the environment. Since I've seen this advertising spot, I haven't used straw anymore. I think that any production of everything should limit the amount of plastic as a production material.
Haha I totally agree with George Carlin words.
I am really impressed that you support those organisations. This is not very common as not so many people care and really focus on environment. Is there any specific you are sponsoring and recommend others to sponsor as well?
Why have you choosen this one?
In my opinion when people think about environment they know that Earth condition is not the best as it could be but actually they do not realise how bad it is and how much responsibilty human race bear for devastation.
I was really surprised when read specific numbers in this report.

Thank you for your tips how to protect environemnt in every day life. I agree with all of them and all of them are very common.
Even during breaks at our Univeristy it is too hard for some people to throw their cigarette butt to the bin ;)
Actually straws do not go over five percent of a total amount of plastic waste worldwide. As far as I know, over sixty percent is oil production wastes, and petrol processed products. Less than twenty five percent of the Earth's pollution lies on the shoulders of consumers. Amongst everyday used products the most harm is done, well, with plastic bags. They take about a thousand years to recycle in the ground. As regards of using the glass straw -- those are rather exotic, they can easily shatter in your backpack, if you carry them with you, in order to use them each time you want to drink some soda. And about stainless steel -- just imagine the taste of it in your mouth! Moreover, I doubt that it will do anything good for your beverage. In my opinion -- those campaigns are a move to drag people's attention to the pollution problem, although more than a half of the guilt lies on the shoulders of the industries and manufactures. And that campaign against the straws, well, they've simply picked an easiest spot to strike.

I know the WWF institution, but I have not heard about the report before. I think that every way to raise awareness about caring for the environment is good.
I have heard about the program not using plastic straws. I think it's a good idea. I participate in a way that I do not use straws at all. I heard that a bill limiting the use of plastic cutlery was created.
I try to go shopping with my own bag. I try to buy cosmetics and cleaning products in large packages. Then less plastic is used for the same product.
They've picked an easiest spot to strike? For me drinking straws are just an unnecessary waste so if we can limit the usage of plastic without any extra effort, why don't? Especially when you realize how many of them are wasted each day.
Not using drinking straws won't change the environment situation significantly and maybe they don't have such a huge impact on environment as oil production and petrol processed products but if we can make small changes in our everyday behaviour to make environment better - I think we should.
You can read the report or it summary at WWF website here:
http://wwf.panda.org/knowledge_hub/all_publications/living_planet_report_2018/

The number of straws used everyday in Poland is crazy! I was also shocked when I realize how many of them we are producting and how unnecessary the waste actually is.
Yes, some time ago European Parliament approved ban on single-use plastics, not only for straws but for plates, cutlery and cotton-swab sticks as well.
Aside from that, according to bill the usage of plastics for food packaging will have to be cut down by 25 percent by 2025 and bottles will have to be collected and recycled at a rate of 90 percent by 2025.
I think thats very good that European Parliament focused on environment and I am curious to see their further moves.
Alter laws regulating manufactures and fines for polluting environments. Make air filters compulsory, and ban factories that are not provided with waste recycling or have no contracts with recycling companies. Sure, this will result in corruption raise, then again, do raids on 'em. This will happen for sure, when the situation with the environment will reach its critical point. But for now, corporations are simply dragging attention away from real threats. Well, you can ban plastic straws, I am not telling that it won't help environment. It will.

I believe that even small change can make a difference. There are over 7 billion people in the world and being more aware and trying to convince others to change their behaviour is really important nowadays as situation gets worse and worse. Sharing ideas and trying to convince people to change their every day behavior is not easy as usually people do not realize how huge impact their decisions have on evironment and how easily by making small differences in their lifestyle they can live in more eco friendly way.

I agree that this year is full of actions where environment situation is put into consideration. I think thats really good that finally society start to realize that we are not the only species in the world ;)
Thank you for your opinion. I totally agree that proper education about eco friendly ways of lifestyle is a clue. Too many aggressive information can be overwhelming and won't have much impact. I also think that living in eco friendly way shouldn't be something extraordinary and we should aim for such society awarness that some behaviors become natural.
To get to this point, we should teach our friends, family members by showing them the difference and step by step changing their way of thinking and increasing the awareness.
Especially now, when the situation is getting worse and worse.

Of course I have heard about WWE and I think that it changes very much and makes people think how much is losing on such littering.
Unfortunately, I have never heard about it "tu pijesz bez słomki" but I support something like this always less plastic in the world.
I think the most important thing is segregation of rubbish, which will help companies recycle and reduce the dumping of garbage into the garbage dump.

I've never heard about this report and it's the main issue. People don't realize that such a thing even exists. Each of us should be aware of the situation on Earth.

I've also never heard about 'Tu pijesz bez slomki' campaign. Maybe I am not well informed? However, I do like such an idea. I haven't realized that straws are such a big problem. From now, I will avoid using them!

My tips: replace combustion cars with electric ones (or bikes), realize people how this topic is important, plant more trees, higher penalties for littering

1. Have you heard about WWF “The Living Planet Report”?
Do you think that this kind of report changes anything in people’s minds?

Thats the first time I hear about it. And I think that yes, they do change mind of some people. Not everyone but some for sure. The problem is, do people who should read that and could have any impact on our ecosystem have any idea that this report exist? Or do they care?

2. Have you heard about “Tu pijesz bez słomki”? Do you participate?

Yes, I heard. I do participate becuase I have never used straws anyway.

3. What are your tips to protect the environment?

No. The "tips" small things that some people might use are like a drop in an ocean. Do you know that China alone produces more CO2 than USA and Europe together? We chase new technologies to better suit our environment but at the same time rest of the world don't care about that. But we still thing that we will make an example. No, we wont. How does using or not using a straw can help when on the same time in the other parts of world they don't even care about poisoning the earth that they grow they crops on.
I heard about it, but not too much. They are doing a very great and important things. But I think that most people don't care about our nature and other inhabitants of the planet. I hope that people will change their minds about it, otherwise, it might be too late, and we will lose a lot of animals and will get very polluted environment. The people who care about the nature they don't need this report. Maybe for people who don't care about the nature this report would be useful and they change their minds, but it will be a minority of people. I didn't hear about it, but off course I am in! To my mind most useful tip is that people mustn't think only of themselves.
Have you heard about WWF “The Living Planet Report”?
Do you think that this kind of report changes anything in people’s minds?
I have never heard of it, but thanks to the article I already know.
I think that such an item shows a lot how it is going on and shows the sad truth.

Have you heard about “Tu pijesz bez słomki”? Do you participate?
That's how I heard about it. In my opinion, this is a great idea to reduce the pollution caused by plastic straws.
I met with such information in one of the restaurants by the sea, but unfortunately the pub next to the restaurant did not respect it

What are your tips to protect the environment?
Segregate waste, try not to waste water, give up the car and change to public transport,
use non-disposable straws.

I heard about WWF, they also have a Panda logotype. Most people will say what they think about the environment. And the next day they will do the same.

2. Have you heard about “Tu pijesz bez słomki”? Do you participate?
I have never heard about it.

I almost never use a straw. We can replace plastic with cardboard, for example as a сups for parties made of cardboard.v

3. What are your tips to protect the environment?
Сhange the cars to electric cars, to use cardboard packages, plastic bottles it is possible to change on a cardboard.
Just change everything to organic materials.
1. Have you heard about WWF “The Living Planet Report”?

Yes, I have read an article about it lately. It is really sad. I think that this report's result should get more popular, to increase people awareness. But will it change anything ? I'm afraid it won't change much.

2. Have you heard about “Tu pijesz bez słomki”? Do you participate?

I haven't heard of it. In general I don't use straws at home, and I rarely drink using straw in bars.

3. What are your tips to protect the environment?

I try to reduce the amount of plastic "things" that I use

I haven’t heard of the report before. It is so sad to read about the results of our selfishness. I think such reports should be popularized more so that we can see the results of our actions. It is even more important to let people know that they actually have a great impact on the world. Such simple actions as not using straws may seem like nothing, but if we stop using it in general it would reduce the amount of trash significantly. There are many others thinks we can do to reduce the use of one-use plastic – like taking your own bags to a market, choosing packaging that can be recycled, taking your own cup. I also try to pick up at least one piece of trash every time I go for a walk with my dogs.

I actually heard about WWF a long time ago. Previously, they showed advertisements of this organization with the participation of various celebrities, where they called for the preservation of certain species of animals. In fact, it is the largest organization for the protection of wildlife diversity, and its reports are the most quoted and authoritative. Therefore, one can safely say about its impact on society that the benefits of this community are great. However, I think they should adhere to the modern policy of introducing information to the masses, since I have never seen their messages on the Internet, and as we know, the Internet is now the engine of the information field.

I hear about “Tu pijesz bez słomki” for the first time. It is unlikely that the rejection of the use of plastic straw will affect the ecosystem. Especially if people are wise to dispose of them after use. I hope that the majority of the population respects the separate release of garbage (I mean plastic, glass, paper separately). But the creation of such an action is a good little but very correct step. If people begin to understand that a "straw" is understood as all the materials that decompose in the ground for a very long time.

Of course, the human role in the ecosystem is great. He can influence it by making various changes. In this regard, I propose to watch the following video, let's hope that there will be more such successful experiments:

I haven't heard about this report before, and as I see not so many of us has. Therefore we can assume that it wasn't publicized good enough. Considering this fact, I'd say that this kind of reports doesn't have much impact on people's view on environmental problems.
I didn't know about this action, but I think it really makes sense and now I will think twice before I will take a straw for my drink. The problem with protecting environment is that it always requires from people some additional action and most of us just don't want to bother. It's much easier to take another plastic straw or cup and throw it away later than carry your reusable one throughout whole festival for example. It sometimes requires really strong mindset to be eco-friendly. But sometimes it's not necessarily that hard. I always try to use the plastic bag that I've once bought until it's leaky and unusable. I'm also trying to pay attention to trash segregation. Those are really simple things that can help our planet and if everyone would carry on with them, it could make it less trashy, a little bit at least.

1. Yes, I have heard of it. The WWF Report definitely grabs the attention of people, they become more aware of what is happening. Hence it doesn’t mean everybody will follow these rules.
2. No I haven’t heard exactly about that movement “Tu pijesz bez słomki” but I noticed that already some restaurants in Warsaw started to use straws made out of stainless stell or even paper. Guess, entering this kind of places I already started participating.
3. Most important. Think twice if you really need something. Especially shopping, because still most packages are made out of plastic. Another point is to reuse shopping-bags as you already mentioned. Use the public transport or Carsharing options.
Unfortunately , I have never heard about WWF “The Living Planet Report”, it's sad to read such an article. We don't appreciate what we have. Concerning changing people’s minds, I hope, that this article at least minimally affected young people, because, even by following the minimum number of rules or advices you can help our planet. But personally, I think, most don't care, gladly want to be wrong.
Yes, I have heard something about “Tu pijesz bez słomki”, even my mother few years ago said that straws are bad for the environment. So, I don't buy/use straws and additionally plastic bags.
My small personal tips: don't use plastic bags, try to integrate into your life organic/reusable things, use water wisely.
Personally I have never heard about this report but I suspected that something like that had to exist. When it comes to changing people's view on environmental issues I think that such reports help only if they are properly presented in media. Despite that I still think that people who prepare those reports are doing great job and that it is very important to monitor Earth's overall "health".

I haven't heard about "Tu pijesz bez słomki". The thing is, I don't really use straws. That's just how my diet is I guess.

My tips about protecting environment would be similiar to yours. I really think we should focus on preventing people from leaving their trash in forests or throwing them away to rivers. I am not an expert but I think it is more damaging towards natural environment than f.e. leaving your lights turned on for 15 minutes longer. Luckily there are some laws against it and people are becoming more aware. Hopefully we will not destroy our planet completely.

Yes, I have heard about it a lot and I have seen their social advertising in Berlin how a dolphin accidentally eat a whole mountain of garbage. This kind of things make people think about what they do, what they it and what they produce. But not for everyone.
“Tu pijesz bez słomki” - this is something new for me and I would like to be part of it.
I never throw garbage on the street or in the wood or parks. I try not use plastic bags. I always have little fabric bag for my shoppings. And I try use water wisely.

That's what I've heard about it, but it's hard to say anything about it.

Interesting. I hear for the first time, but it sounds cool and I would like to choose something I would like to do.

Certainly limit the creation of plastic, which is now everywhere.
Yes, rubbish segregation is also very important. More and more materials can be reused and that is a great news for enviroment. People need to realize that segragation is not that hard to do and that actually make a difference and help companies to recycle. I used to think that what is the point of segregation when one garbage truck take all the rubbish but I have been once by accident in recycle company and it acutally changed my way of thinking.
I have wrote it several times already but I must admit that the awareness is the issue. People often heard about WWF organisatoion but thats all, they usually do not try to find out about animals or Earth condition. I totally understand cause usually we don't spend weekends wondering how Earth is going these days :P
But the problem in society is with their attitude and in my opinion this is the starting point - we should teach people how to be more aware and the most important - why should we change anything in our attitude.
Yes! Thats the point! But what can you personally do with China economy system? I agree that what you described have much more impact on environment and it is simply so sad that still people don't mind devastating ecosystems and pollute the atmosphere. There is still a long way to change the management styles of such big countries. I won't change the world by writing article in English Conversation Course. All I can do is to put your attention to the problem and wish that maybe you along with others will change something to live in more eco friendly way and I personally believe that every decision matters. Even the small change like not usuing plastic straws ;)

Sure, I have heard about both. Did I think that kind of report change something in people's mind? Personally, before reading some article 'bout straws, I didn't realize how big is that problem. After that I'm more careful in choosing places to drink.

"3. What are your tips to protect the environment?"
Poland is one of the most smoged country in Europe. That's why we should stop burning plastic etc. in heating stove. Also, we should change them to more economic versions. In the end, let's start using city communication, instead own cars.

I haven't heard about "The Living Planet Report" before. I believe it opens the eyes of people about environment crisis, however, it gets to a very small group. Most of the people who read this report probably already try to take care of environment. Also I haven't heard about ecology movement "Tu pijesz bez słomki", but I have heard that straws and one-off items are being banned in the EU. When it comes to protecting the environment people should definitely try to use reusable items and reduce waste of different kinds.
~200 years back everything was undergone according to with law of nature....but now nature laws are malfunctioned...today we are facing season with its extremity...everything is happened because of industrial revolution....and one more thing is there, that is greedy nature of human beings...once Gandhi had said " This well has enough to satisfy everyone's needs but no once greed ". I think our earth is still alive only because of poverty under developing countries nit because of highly developed countries...
I hope that people will soon realize what are the consequences and what we as humans are doing with nature and other Earth inhabitants. Sad to imagine that in some years people will not know animals which are very common nowadays.
You wrote that the report may be for people who don't care about the nature and I totally agree but I also think that it should be discussed at schools as well to aware children from the very young age and adapt them into eco friendly lifestyle.
Still not all places joined to this action but I hope more and more will. At first when I heard about this action it was in Warsaw and I have noticed that more and more places decided to join. Then,I found out that action is also very
well-known in Kraków. So glad to hear that also some restaurants by the sea decided to participate - it is getting all over Poland ;)
Totally agree. Limitation in usage of plastic material will surely infulance on enviroment in a positive way. I think straws are not really necessary - why people can not drink directly from the glass? It happens that in some cases you really need one for example after dentist appointment but in those situations as you wrote people can use cardboard ones
I am not sure either if it change much. For me the results where shocking and that is why I decided to share this topic here during the course. I hope that maybe it will influence somehow on some people even if everyday situations.
Always worth to try :)

I’ve heard about WWF organization before but never about this document. In my opinion such articles draws attention to problems like this and they are nessesary nowadays. Most people have heard about today’s bad environment status but I think they often don’t realize the seriousness of the situation. Therefore articles like this can give food for thought and change the way the people think.
Of course I’ve heard about “Tu pijesz bez słomki” action and I participate in it when I have a choice.
This year is full of actions like this because the situation is getting worse and worse. Thare are many locals in Warsaw which take part in this program and their number is rising. When it comes to me I try not to use plastic straws, cutlery or even cups. I believe that we can really make a difference but only if we stand together.
First of all we should start from ourselves and try to be more eco friendly. Then we need to make other people aware of the danger and try to convince them to help.
I think that it is very nice of you to pick up trash when you go out with dogs but in my opinion the actual problem is why do you actually need to pick them up? I mean someone had to throw them away and I think that is the problem. We as a society should know what should we do to live on better Earth and the other question should be - what can we do more ;)
Thank you for the link to animation. I have actually seen it couple years ago and its horrifying how close it is to my actual imagination of how it looks now.
I agree that you can't change people minds but you change yours and starting to implement changes in your life can affect others as well (in a positive way of course).
I like the idea of creating adverstisments with sporstmen and putting into consideration enviroment condition. Usually they promote some well known brands only. That would be a nice change ;)
Produce, produce, produce. Couldn't agree more that we should be more carefull if we really need someting or not.
In Warsaw more and more places join to “Tu pijesz bez słomki” movement. I hope that next time you will be more aware customer and stay with non-straw way even when restaurant won't participate :)
Great that your mother was aware of it some years ago and great that she pass you some good, eco friendly tips.
WWF “The Living Planet Report” is actually being published since 1998 every two years and no one heard about this report. Hoping that maybe the society
consciousness will increase in next couple of years
Yes, European Parliament banned single-use plastics, not only straws but also plates, cutlery and cotton-swab sticks.
In my opinion it is very good that European Parliament focus on environment and I hope other big institutions, countries and companies will change their way of thinking and make some changes as well.
Using public communication instead of own cars won't only help to reduce pollution but also limit the traffics ;)
I also suggest bicycles and scooters (the one where you ride by standing on board and either repel or it rides by acumulator). That is very good alternative and have some positive effect also on your attitude and body.
Yes, I heard about WWF. I think that this should change the attitude of people about taking care of our environment. The planet is our future. It is place where we live, but I also think that some people don’t realize it and they will do it as it will be too late and then the consequences can be catastrophic for us.

Yes, I heard about it, I'm glad that Poland is the first country to come out with such a good initiative and it is spreading all over the world.

I think there should be more solar panels, hydropower plants and the use of geothermal sources.

To be honest, I've actually never heard of this WWF report before your article. In my opinion this kind of actions might help in general by drawing attention to specific problems. There are no reason to not doing it. There are plenty of people willing to help, so the organization that can lead them is only a good thing.
I've heard about "Tu pijesz bez słomki" and I'm trying to stick to that movement. I don't know if you've watched "crazy, stupid love" but in that movie Ryan Gosling strongly explain why mens shouldn't use straws... ;)
My tips? Just be aware.. Nowadays there are plenty of "live eco" movent, which means a lot of free information of "how to do that". Recycling is the easiest one to help our planet
I am not an expert either but I also find it more damaging. In this way animals have contact with those trash, they can stuck in them or eat them and get harmed. People become more aware nowadays but I truly hope that it will improve in the future.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
