Racism is a thing, none can deny it. Racism is still a big problem in most countries, even including some civilized countries like Japan. In my opinion we should deal with it in future, that everyone no matter of their skin colour or sex should have equal rights etc.
The other problem which is also real imo and it's mentioned by the Dan Pena in the video is that in most countries like France, UK or USA people are overacting lately. For example in Poland there is no problem if women wants to become programmer and still there is ton of manifests and actions like "Dziewczyny do Polibudy", while no need for it. Actions like "Me too" in some cases was just move for attention. I guess that I might be attacked now by some girl in that course, but that's just my opinion - in Poland if you want to become someone your sex will not make it easier/harder ( I'm not counting sports, we shouldn't compare it). Same thing with religion or race.
Why we have society like this? I don't know, maybe humans just need to have some problems to solve, even if there is no problem.

I guess you could get attacked by some man as well for your opinion :) And please keep in mind I'm definitely not "Snowflake generation". Too old for that :)
I disagree with your opinion on things like "Dziewczyny do Polibudy". I've worked with a woman colleague in our IT deparment and I've seen how people react towards working with men and women. Women in IT are not treated as experienced or as trustworthy as men. And they know that, I've discussed it few times with my colleague. Just by looking what is the ratio of men to women in technically oriented universities shows that we have a problem that needs attention. I'm really happy this generation finally sees it and does something about it.
And I disagree with you even more on "Me too" movement. I think our (older) generation kept this kind of offensive behavior towards women as a norm for far too long. And I'm glad that women now have strength and bravery to speak up about it. I support this movement. I think a lot of men are just ashamed of their behavior and they want to avoid discussion it. Or they are happy with how the things are. And we need to speak about it.
In Poland, due to violance at homes around 500 women die each year. Around 90.000 people (90% of them being women or kids) are victims of domestic violance. There are statistics about rapes in Poland which claim we might have around 200 rapes every single day, 95% of them not being reported at all because of fear and shame. Those statistics are scary. Try to imaging you have a daughter, what would you feel if you knew there is 33% chance she will sexually harassed at school and 15% chance she will be actually raped? I had some first hand reports about how young men are treating girls at school with too many teachers turning a blind eye on it.
That's why we need movements like "Me Too". To show that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated. That we dispise those men who act violently towards women. And our sociaty can give all people equal chance for both career and normal life regardless of their gender.
I liked those videos, although the second one, with Dan Pena, was just funny to watch in a certain way.
I remember the old days. My dad used to disciplin me with a leather belt if I made something I shouldn't - this was kind of punishment everyone considered normal. You could beat your kid with a belt while it cried. I don't really hold it against my dad now, but I definitelly think this kind of behavior should not be accepted and tolerated. So when an older guys shouts how men these days are "cunts" and cowards for not willing to beat someone to death for spitting, this is just ridiculous to me. We don't want to go back to those days.
Of course people should have courage and self-esteem to stand up for themselves - I'm not advocating for "getting soft". But being strong does not mean you need to be violent.

First video was much more to my liking and actually I like the conclusion of it. We have gone too much into "victim culture". We need to listen to people and we want people to have courage to stand up for themselves and to speak up when they are wronged. But there are too many who think only victims have the right to speak up and only victims are able to understand the problem they faced. Everyone should have the right to discuss and talk about problems we face and we can't get offended just because someone has a different opinion then us. People need to look for compromise more and less to "be right".

I have hard believed that all people should have equal opportunities and there is no place for Racism in the modern world. However I also believe that men should be a man, he shouldn't be offended by a joke or something else... the Second video with Dan Pena was a bit humoristic however I agree with his description of snowflakes. And believe that currently, you should care about what you saying to other people especialy when you working in multinational company with people from other countries and cultures. Because you could be understood by people from other culture with a different meaning that you would like to say. Now working with Philipinos guys I can say that you should be very careful with the critic to them because they could be very offended by it.
I understand the point which Dan Pena was trying to make but his way of naming men "cunts" for not willing to use violence has no sense to me. Snowflakes generation is real and in everyday situation you can find examples of overacting or people being over sensitive, however examples which Dan Pena mentioned are also examples of overacting but to the other side so it is like from one extreme to the other.
Now, more and more young people search for psychology or psychiatric help which wasn't common or even considered as weird some years ago. I dont judge, just trying to conclude that people are more senstive as they used to be and mentally weaker in everyday life situation.
I am not saying that all young people are snowflakes but for sure there is more and more of them. There is a saying that hard times create strong men and based on modern society, their behaviour and fact that we are living in freedom - I couldn't agree more.
Marcin Mróz said…
There is definitely something about snowflake generation, but I wouldn't consider it something that bad. People getting more sensitive and more tolerant is the the effect of becoming more 'civilized' in my opinion. If everyone is starting to have broader view on some aspects of their lifes and can understand others feelings, I wouldn't say that this is something we should fight or be ashamed about. Of course there are situations when things are going a bit too far and people are overreacting, but we live in XXI century and everyone should have right to speak about his/her problems and we just have to accept that. Sometimes you might feel that for you something is just a nonsense, but maybe for someone it's really important.
Hard times create strong men. But are we living in this times now? Or maybe we are living in good times that create weak men? Or even in the time of weak men create hard times? So in which part of this cycle we're at now? I think that we are living in the second half of ‘weak men create hard times’ cycle with prospects of ‘hard times create strong men’.
What do we mean by the term ‘strong men’?
Is it the man who just go around showing off that he is strong and the others are snowflakes or those who accept his vulnerability, his weakness? And we are deciding who is who. ‘Snowflakes’, as well as ’strong men’ have been created, they weren't born that way.

Violence, racism. The generation of snowflakes does not approve of this, they are trying to eradicate these problems. Sometimes they even resort to serious actions, such as group protests. But what is the root of these problems? Do we really have to hate, despise people who are just of a different skin color, a different nationality? Unfortunately, it is increasingly possible to meet people who support racism. I believe that this should be fought, not to be hidden. From my personal experience, I will say that in my work we treat racism very strictly. I think racism should be eradicated from the lower classes by giving appropriate lectures. So, in my opinion, the generation of snowflakes is not something bad, they do what they see fit. Yes, not everyone can like their actions, but the idea is quite good.
Iman Masjedi said…
Should you consider the root of problems such as racism, why is it a racist? Why should not we feel good to those who migrate to our country or become refugees for a better life?
Questions like this should be raised to a large extent within society, its benefits and disadvantages should be discussed by everyone, and the result will be determined by law.

In my opinion, people these days get too emotional about all these recent topics involving hate speech, racism etc. If you get easily offended all the time by what someone says to you that might not like and start publicly complaining about this then maybe you should overlook your priorities. Do you really want to waste time on people with toxic attitude and behavior? An overreaction would only bring more emotional harm to you and won't make you look better in eyes of others. Of course, racism and hate speech are not acceptable and should not be tolerated but you cannot change people's perception of life. I don't think that it is wrong to talk about discrimination in society and try to solve that problem. Trying to fix the situation with a negative attitude would not give much positive impact. You should fight for what is right but don't let emotions to overwhelm you, approach problem with a rational mind and clear vision. Don't just talk about how bad racism or discrimination is, suggest what can be done to make a change.

I don’t like recent topics mentioned there like racism, hate speech etc. because those topics are becoming more and more popular but I think that not in a good way. Those topic are going to be fashionable and people are talking a lot about them but organizations that may have biggest impacts don’t do anything. I don’t want to blame those organizations and institutions because It may be very difficult to do anything in those topics but I’d like to blame people that are talking shit and are just trying to become more famous and popular because those topics are. I simply don’t like it and I also don’t want to take a vote now but I will support any organization in good initiatives.

In my opinion, there are two types of insulting people. Literally or in jokes. Of course, they differ in the way they have been said, who they are addressed to and who said them. It is best to avoid each of them, but it is not always possible. Sometimes we laugh at each other with our colleagues or in jokes we offend each other. It is also worth not exaggerating :P
If the images go beyond the circle of acquaintance and are spoken to strangers, in my opinion they are unacceptable. Behaviour such as racism or verbal abuse is unpleasant and sometimes are common. I think that racist behaviour today is certainly less and more punished and that is why such a generation was created.
Fortunately, I do not belong to this generation, because if someone not worthy of my attention speaks to offensive words, I do not care about such a person, because I believe that it is a shame of time

People these days are becoming more and more emotional about such topics as racism, hate speech, religion etc. They are thin skin and easy to offend. It's not good. These topics existed before and will always exist. However, it's not their fault. These days those people are attacked by thousands of information coming from internet. In my humble opinion, we should more focus on organisations like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter. It should be their duty to pay attention to those topics. They shouldn't allow for controvential posts, physical and psychological violence etc.

I do agree that we are living in ‚weak men create hard times‘ cycle. I strongly believe that every single man should be getting rid of his weaknesses but not showing them off.

It may sound like an old school approach but in my honest opinion this is the only right decision. By reducing your weaknesses you actually getting better and it helps you to be the better version of yourself. I can’t see any advantages of showing off your feelings. By doing this you affect the others and make them weaker. The others start thinking that they may follow your example and instead of solving their problems they will simply give up and start expressing their feelings(crying).

Summing up, it’s all up to you who you want to become. It’s only your choice wether you want to express your feeling or getting better in any sense.
I think, everybody would agree that violence is bad. It actually gives no benefit, harms people, destroys their minds. But why then does it exist at all? In the second video mr. Pena states that back in his time it was absolutely normal to be beaten up for doing something bad. In my opinion, it retains same until now as well. Actions has always been stronger than words. Sure, diplomacy is vital. But average person simply does not comprehend the meaning of the words fully, since in was a human invention, whereas a language of fists was developed by nature itself. I am not defending pointless violence at any point, no. But even in the Bible "Preserve yourself and your family at any cost" quote is stated right before " Thou shalt not kill" commandment.

Nowadays there is a tendency for forbidding things. And it is clearly got out of hand. Today, minorities and people, who desperately seek to victimize themselves, cannot distinguish opinion from threat. As mr. Neil stated, there was a time, when an ability to express one's opinion was valued. Now, your opinion should be expressed only, if it does not "Hurt" our snowflakes. Who decides, what actually hurts? Right, this is clearly out of control. There is racism. There is bullying. Best way to forbid them -- strike back. Defend yourself. Weak being attacked? Defend them. That is how the Nature wanted it to be. But when defense starts to hit those, who even did not say or did anything, it is not okay. It becomes a pointless violence itself. And the whole mechanism starts to spin backwards. In my opinion, we are going to have "White racism" in no time, if a line between vital self defense and pointless offense will not be drawn for our snowflakes.

Ahh, the smell of offended snowflakes.

I believe that there have always been stupid people all around the world, but Internet and free speech provides greater opportunity for stupidity to be expressed. People are even ready to rewrite the history of the world, because they are offended. And it concerns not only racism, but all other controversial topics one can imagine. The worst thing is that by doing so, screaming and shouting about how hard they are offended, such people are only making things worse, instead of really fixing them.

Here is example from the life, it happens to me two days ago. I was writing stuff in Microsoft Word, and the sentence goes like that: ... men and women .... I see that Word has some problem with that part. What do you think it was? According to Word, I should change it to "women and men", I should use non-discriminating language, that's how it was called. Is there any person that believe that things like I've described change something? In my opinion, it looks like somebody tries to fight with hate by throwing even more hate. What will be left in the very end is only hate.

I can do this all day, providing examples of substitution of concepts, etc., but I don't want to spend time for snowflakes. I believe that the evolution of our society will leave them somewhere behind. Everything in nature obeys the law of survival of the fittest, even our society is based on this law. And if you want to survive, grow some shell on your thin skin.
Everyone around the world is different and some people are easier offended then others. I am absolutly against racism and intolerance but everything has it's boundaries. We should talk about this things and educate people but let's not be paranoid. These days i feel like we strive for the times in which it will be almost impossible to talk publicly and don't hurt someone's feelings. Hurting other people by every kind of intolerance on purpouse should be punished but sometimes we can hurt others completely by accident with no intent of harm. In this cases saying sorry really should be enought to forget and carry on. But a lot of people these days would think that they were very toutched by this situation and they require reparation of some kind for this deed. In my opinion this situation went a little bit too far and people shouldn't be so much fragile. We should focus on real racist behaviours and hate speeches instead of caring about mistakes, trivia and misunderstandings.

The world is still full of violence and racism even though we have a lot of campaigns and laws to prevent that. Violence is bad but we can't stop that in full. The problem is that when you see violence or something bad happening you should stop that or try to prevent from happening but nowadays all I can see is people turning their backs and go the other way. I agree with Dan Pena even though he used really strong language that I personally despise but he had a point, people nowadays are too soft and don't know how to defend theirselfs. When they should put themselfes to the problem and solve it they do nothing and spend time at psychiatrist or some other place talking about their feelings just to feel good. Of course there are some good psychatrist who really can help and put you in a situation when you have to put yourself face to face with a problem but it is not about that. People should get tougher and put themselfs with open chest straight to the world and its every day problems because world is hard place to live in and noone will live it for you.

In think that in our life is no place for racism and violence. It’s stupid to judge people because of color of skin or nationality, now all peoples are equal. I agree that nowadays people became more emotionally and get offended easier. In my opinion resolve conflict with your strength is wild, now “strength” in conflict is measured in your communication skills. Today people show more respect to another people.
Unknown said…
I have to point what is the bigger and bigger problem of our society. We are afraid of saying our opinions out loud because after that somebody can call us 'a racist', 'a nazi', 'a homophobe', 'a communist', etc. Don't you have an argument during a discussion? Blame your opponent, offend him. Are you not have enough knowledge to go to university? So you should organise a protest which shows that professors in universities are racists and they accept only white men. Someone say true which is painful for you? Get down on your knees and cry in front of camera. Someone got better grade than you? Ha, next example of racism or social inequity!

I think that we live in times that when you see a person with different skin we don't care about this too much. We are used to see different people from different cultures because of globalisation and easiness of travel. I focus on character, on behaviour and opinions of people who I meet not colour of their skin because it is ridiculous.

We shouldn't to yield under pressure that every failure in our life can be explain by hate speech.

To be honest, I was not familiar with the term "Snowflake Generation" before and I need to admit that definition seems pretty genuine to me. In my understanding, the snowflakes are young adults of the 2010s who are more prone to taking offense and less resilient than previous generations. I do not see this as a bad thing, although many people do. In my opinion the WWII had a major impact on previous generations and their toughness. The more time we live without wars, the more time we have to develop our emotions and the more fragile we become. The other reason could be the fact, that nowadays young folks deal and talk about their emotions much easier, so naturally it is easier to harm their minds with mentioned offence. Nevertheless, I find this generation change as a positive thing because only a change allows to develop, society in this case.
I would like to finish my post with the following question. Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. Weak men create hard times. In which part of the cycle we're at now?
Szymon Gibalski said…
I believe that young people are more and more offended by anything because we are taught that we should express ourselves and fight with things we do not like and do not accept. And there is nothing wrong with it!
Of course, we have to understand when we should do something with it and when we should forget about it.
I think that people have to understand not to freak out about everything that is contrary to their point of view.
In my opinion, there is nothing wrong in being offended as long as we are not offended by everything and everyone.

I absolutely agree with Dan Pena that we have too many snowflakes in our society. People have to toughen up if we want to stand firmly for ourselves. However in order to do that it is necessary to find a balance between compassion and confidence. Being too confident often leads to aggressive behavior and being too compassionate to abuses and lack of decisiveness. I have always supported the golden mean philosophy as the cure for most of our world problems. Additionally I think that very decision should be processed first by our mind and later by heart. Aside from this interview with Dan I watched his other videos about currently hot topics such as global warming. I must say that his views on the world are rather limited and he presents very dangerous arguments that are not verified scientifically and rely solely on right-winged populistic slogans.
Nataliya Tkach said…
Snowflakes do not give up violence, they just delegate it to the authorities. They are easily rude when they are confident in their safety. They are capable, as we have seen in the example of the evergreen Professor, bullying and bullying. The violence that protects them is beautiful, the right kind of violence. It just has to be done by someone specially trained, and let them sit in their bike helmets on the child seats. Oh, that-that, and freedom is not exactly a priority in the eyes of snowflakes: children, which up to fourteen years were taken to school by the handle and left alone, it is not accustomed. Moreover, they are afraid of it, especially when the freedom enjoyed by those who disagree snowflakes.

The worst thing a politician, actor, writer, doctor can afford now is to say something that causes fear in snowflakes. For example, to stand up for a Hollywood producer who seduced Actresses, or to say that passive Smoking does not harm anyone, and feminism – a pretty stupid thing... That is, to go against the left ideology that dominates more than half a century in European and American departments and which has become a catechism of snowflakes.

When snowflakes get scared, they unite and, sparing no energy, arrange a Blizzard to the culprit of their fear: lawsuits, devastating articles, tons of letters with insults, boycotting the company that did not throw the villain on the street. Today, snowflakes are perhaps one of the most powerful, mobile and significant diasporas in the first world — a community that cannot be ignored.

In the present world there should be no such thing as rasism. All borders are practically open, we culturally mix more than ever before. So why are people racists? I believe that most cases are born of individual actions. Someone once hurt someone, he spread it around and that's how the stereotype came about. Because of this people are hurt, often by the pressure of society. On the other hand, more than ever, we can now have a problem with racism, precisely because of the above-mentioned borders, or rather their lack. More and more units will harm the whole race. In my opinion, "snowflake" generation is not something bad, they just react to what they see.
Unfortunatelly racism is very common theese days but I'd say its a problem related with older people than young generation. I have never heard the term Snowflake generation before but i think its a perfect term to define young adults. Nowadays we hear almost everyday that somebody felt offended by someone , cmon... Couple years ago people were tougher but now we must care about everything we say or write its very exhausting that you can't express your own opinion because others will hate you. to be honest I think most of them are overreacting and they're trying to attract attention of as many people as they can.
One tries to ban others opinion and point of view if he knows that his is inferior and cannot stand a competition. Snowflakes are no different, instead of doing real things and proving they are right they would rather claim tahyir opponent to be offensive and hate spreading. Ultimately it is one of the ways to gain power either locally (students in campus trying to force teachers to quit jobs) or nationwide (political powers claiming everyone to be offensive so they could not express their point of view). As for toughness i think that everyone should decide for himself if he needs to be tough, but ultimately it depends on a situation and living conditions of a person.
Unknown said…
I must admit that I haven't really experienced any of the things described in both of these videos. Perhaps I've simply gotten lucky, or perhaps the problem is less common in Poland (or just less common in general). Regardless, I agree with what was said in the BBC discussion - too many times I've heard about people trying to censor opinions that they don't personally agree with. Silencing people does not solve anything, but instead it violates freedom of speech and harbors resentment. The best way to change one's viewpoints is to challenge them in open discussion, allowing them to speak their mind. Trying to ignore the other's side opinions turns one into a closeted bigot who refuses to change his opinion no matter how wrong they are.

As for Dan Pena's video, I understand the points he's trying to make, and I don't disagree with them, but I do think that he might perhaps be taking things a bit too far. While people certainly shouldn't just allow others to push them around, they shouldn't neccessarily respond to aggression with aggression, either. Having self-esteem and acting assertively do not mean that you have to beat someone to death because they insulted you. That said, he's certainly correct that people do tend to be a bit too fragile nowadays, which might result in a disaster when tough times come.

Example with “ when someone spits on your wife...” is over exaggerated. Even today, it would not be that easily let go.Maby offender wouldn’t be killed, but someone probably would make him pay for what he have done.

On the other hand, for me handshake is one of the most important part of the first impression that person makes when I meet them for the first time. Sadly I have to agree with Dan Pena, handshake is getting worse and worse. Some of my friends don’t even grab hand when they meet. Their hands are like dead fish. Their lack of self confidence is mirrored in the force (or rather lack of it), of handshake.

What about your handshake? Is it important for you as well? What about your friends and colleagues?
I think in our time we mustn't have something like Racism. Because in most countries already have a lot of foreigners and we need to accept it. About snowflake generation, in my opinion it's very bad, because people don't care about someone problems, they have their own problems. If they want to complain, they can. But I think they will have a big problems in work, cause at the work you need to do your job and don't say someone how it's hard or some like this. At the video with Dan Pena I was really impressed when he told about a question and answers on this question. In this case I'm absolutely agree with him.
Video with Dan Pena is one of the most ridiculous things I've seen this week. Woah, thousands of years of civilisation and here comes men who is calling for a lynch because of some offending words. Well we have that thing that helps people when they are feeling offended, and it is called courts. Also example of measuring "manliness" by how strong is men's handshake, is like measuring how "famine" women are by how long heels they wear. Most of us just doesn't need to do manual labor.

We're living in the best time humanity ever had. Movements like that are a consequence of it. People just care more about others and have enough empathy to see their problems While not always having best methods doing it by imposing others with their opinions they are helping us by showing scale of problems and fighting for good reasons.

Also I don't agree with sentence that is quite often quoted here about "strong man create good times. etc.". Our times were created by men who did things for humanity and science. The ones that were caring about society. Implying that the wars had any good effects by the people while living in one of the countries that have been affected the most, shows only how our education system is ineffective. I believe it is also a one of the main reasons why racism and sexism exists
I found the first video interesting in terms of the culture of the debate. Two sides with completely opposite points of view kept a very civilised tone and level of their discussion, which is rarely seen in e.g. Polish or American debates.

On the other side, the man in the second video was a caricature. I understand that he’s acting that way in order to position himself on the opposite, radical side of the „toughness” spectrum but because it’s so radical, I couldn’t restrain myself from laughing at some points of the discussion.

I agree that the ratio of so-called „snowflake” to „though” people is higher now than it seemed to be in the past. But I also believe that the aforementioned toughness is not always physical.

In the past, toughness was defined by participation in fights, war and general competition — there were no other means to prove it to the society. Nowadays, 70 years after the last global war, there are just different means to achieve toughness.

With the blooming of capitalism and big businesses, it’s fighting with mental challenges, constant stress and rise to power that makes people tough without using physical violence. It’s Fortune 50 CEOs that are the new modern standard of tough.

(But yeah, don’t spit on my significant other, otherwise I’ll prove my point wrong. :P)

Cecil Rhodes was a racist, colonialist, imperialist. The statue of Cecil Rhodes is an inanimate object that couldn't show or feel discrimination or prejudice against people of other races, or who believes that a particular race is superior to another. Could the statues be an offensive?

Honestly, I don't really want to discuss racism because often people like to thing categorical on this topic. I mean that they think that you have to choose only one side and definitely couldn't be somewhere in the middle sometimes. So it's hard to talk about that because I think that the most disgusting law in the history is a bus segregation in America and at the same time I think that closing the borders to refuges is a good idea.

Both videos are talking about young generations and their increasing vulnerability. I hear the “Snowflake generation” term for the first time but I find it accurate. I don’t think that this kind of behaviour is common in Poland. Most people I know are resistant to other’s comments or opinions. Of course there are some people that are unconfident, shy and worry about other people words, but I think it’s more personality trait than influence of the society.
However, I hear more and more about political correctness which is quite closely related to being thin skinned. It became so popular that many people are afriad to express their opinion because of hate and being called intolerant. This way the society is getting more “soft” and neutral.
According to Mr. Pena speech I need to agree. His opinion is pretty much exaggerated when it comes to dealing with insults but we shouldn’t be neutral for sure. His point about men handshake hits the nail on the head. I experienced it many times that some handshakes with adult men felt like with little child. On the other hand, Women are getting stronger and we more often hear about feminism. It’s not bad in my opinion, but it’s bad that men are getting weaker and less emotionally resistant.

It seems to me that racism is very trendy topic nowadays. It is everywhere, you cannot do anything because someone will say that was act of racism. It is horrible situation and exaggeration. I know that we shouldn't discriminate any of minority groups but it should be a two-way street. Nowadays, only bigger group of people can discriminate... It is not normal situation for me.

To be honest, "snow flakes" is a new term for me and I think that I'm not that person. I know my rights and benefits of them. I don't like these people because they never can make a point. They are nondescript for me. In my opinion, everyone should know how to confident and not let anyone to walk all over them.

Of course there is such thing as "no voting". Simply if no one is going to vote no one would be elected.
Campaigns, promises, and ads in nearest future will be mainly aimed at older people,
So your vote won’t make generally any difference, and not only because you are young, but because (((they))) won't allow people from outside

Daily Politics – Generation Snowflakes is touching a subject that ,unfortunately, is not new to me. Most of the video is connected to situation of freedom of speech vs “you are not allowed to say something that offends me”. But it is strongly about situation on universities in Britain. And in the second video…
Dan Pena was funny, and brutally honest. I wouldn’t say that he is right in his attitude to deal with some problems but… He actually admits that his methods are to radical but also to “Snowflake Generation” is radical in the other way. It can be connected to freedom of speech. Let’s start from my favorite example of how sensitive modern generation is. Warhammer 40000. It is a game. A tabletop game using plastic figures of science fiction grim dark warriors. It is rely dark, grim and bloody. There are races that want only war, live of a human has no value at all and there are robots wearing skins of people that they kill. People meet, put this figures on the table, role dices, the battle is concluded. And suddenly… PETA writes a letter asking Games Workshop, the owner of the franchise to stop producing one single factions models. Why? Because they wear furs. Plastic models wearing plastic furs. In the universe that people die in trillions, full of horrible lore, blood and gore the most hideous of sins is that some guys wear furs. Great…
And now for my own experience. I was called racist. Why? Because I have disagreed with one girl on facebook saying that “people of color should be given extra points on exams so more of them are going to be on universities”. I said that it shouldn’t matter what race, gender or religion you have, all should be treated equally. And because of that I was called racist. Or because I said that I am not ok with black actress playing Ciri. I don’t care about a race of actors I care about the characters and plots and maybe because of games and comics I could’t imagine Ciri being other than a pale, thing girl with green eyes. As stated in books. On the other hand I loved Sonequa Martin-Green in Star Trek: Discovery.
Next, once I commented a post in which somebody said that they didn’t like “Punisher” because he is to brutal. I said that is is the whole point of the character so it is like saying that ice creams are bad because they are cold. I said, that it was her personal opinion but mine is different and from my point of view the producers shown the character as it should be. 5 minutes later I was called an “asshole”.
So many people are now offended when they start a discussion and you say something they don’t like. Yes I believe that Snowflakes exist and they are among us. And as an “lefty” in terms of ethics I realize why so many centered people are going to the right side. Because most of people on the left just CAN’T participate in any discussion with anyone with different view without calling names or “being offended”.

I highly recommend watching this reaction video after the elections in which Trump won. Spoiler: one point is that the left forbids the freedom of speech in name of politician correctness and throwing insults to anyone of different opinion (3:50).

I found watching this videos interesting. First of them was interesting, but the second one seemed to me a bit more funny in some cases.
There are actually people which are more and less emotional. These days toughness is not about physical strength but about mental strength. There are people that think they can withstand everything. Ok, maybe they can do it in their everyday life but there are things that we may not expect. People these days are more sensitive than it was in the past. Maybe it’s because the fact that they don’t have to fight for their as it was before. People feel more safe. But not everyone can feel safe. Racism is a very big problem these days. People are getting more tolerant but there’s still a lot to do. Many people look for better life. They very often move to other countries, looking for a better place for their families, with better earnings, etc. But they can’t always feel safe. Such people can’t be treated worse because of their origin or skin color. Every person should treat other person the way, that he or se would like to be treated by others.
What I think about this whole generation of snowflakes is that they are so sensitive because of the environment in which they were born and the way they were brought up by their parents. Most of them were born with a silver spoon in mouth, they do not have to try hard, work and fight to gain what they want, because everything seems to be provided by their father and mother. Of course, we should not generalize, but what is more and more often seen are spoiled children who constantly demand and complain about everything.

Maybe it is true that we are still weaker. I am not a homophobic and racist but let's move back in the time eg in 1940 and let's look on men then. They were more masculine, more gentlemen and they didn't pay so much attention to the outfit or how beautiful they smell. Nowadays there is not so much people capable of fighting. Maybe 50% of the population in the case of war would be afraid to take the gun in their hands. Additionally let's look on relationships. There is a lot of people in the different relationships and they couldn't fight for them homeland.
It's first time when i hear about the "Snow flakes" but now I am more and more convinced that we have to deal with it. First step we should reset the Obligatory Army Service for everyone.

Another old fellow who is complaining about young generation. But watch out.
You can see very clearly how ((they)) are trying
to push young people into another war. They are going to say, that teens are weaker, that ww2 had a positive effect, but when the war finally arrives they will be sitting in their homes, while young people will be fighting.

Pathetic...

That is only way to describe snowflakes.
They are talking about nonsense that "offence" them. In other words, things that they do not like and they too vocal about it. And because of that vocal complains, other snowflakes join them in their parade of "offended people".
And the funniest part, they will not stop until dominance from their side will be reach.
Even if it means to destroy or offend every sane person around them.

In conclusion, it is...
Pathetic.

The racism issue is definitely out of borders. If you are white heterosectual male you belong to oppressive class and have to behave more tolerant than ever in constant fear of being rude. To be a decent human being is not enough. Now its time to oppress you for all the privilege you have from childhood. So yes nowadays people decide to play offended instead of sucking in the reality. They become lazy and don't want to put real effort and think world owe them everything. As a conclusion I think morden people have to become less snowflakes and more realistic people.

Reffering to some of previous comments... From year to year, I have increasing feeling that media are treating raciscm as a economic product.

Comparing to past or even to early XXI century, people are incredible tolerance. Xenophobia is definitely problem of the oldest. Of course, right now I am generalizing, but still I think that world is moving in the right direction.

Getting back to topic, I agree that our - younger - society is being too emotionally vulnerable to cope with views that challenge their own. Is that bad? Don't think so. People are weak and delicate, because world don't required our strenght right now.

I must admit that I wasn't aware of the term "snowflake generation" until now. From what I've understood, this term refers to the nowadays young adults who are more likely to take offense compared to the previous generations or are vulnerable in regard of other people’s opinion that is different than their own.

In my opinion it is fair to say that this term didn't come out of nowhere. Nowadays people are more thin skinned than their used to be and there are reasons for it. We live in times of peace where many conflicts can be solved with words rather than violence. Opinions differ from one person to another, but that doesn't mean we should silence those we do not agree with. Rather than that we should stay open minded and be prepared to change our own opinion on different subject.

I believe that there is truth to the saying that weak people create bad times, bad times create strong people, strong people create good times, good times create weak people. The "snowflake generation" is a product of a period of no real devastating conflicts in Europe. People, young and old, create and exalt problems that have no real impact on them, simply because there is a lack of real, more pressing concerns.

In the first video there was a very important sentence that words could hurt, but stopping saying them would not fix the damage they do. I think that this should be understood in such a way that people should talk about problems such as racism and unequal treatment and examie the reasons for these situations. Not every topic is so simple. Everyone has their opinions and you can not protest every time something is not suitable for us. In addition, in the behavior of the generation of snowflakes is a great dose of madness. Is protesting against the termination of the topics inconvenient for us, at the same time does not tie up the rights to free expression, to which we claim ourselves right? And whether after a while no one will speak about anything, because he will be afraid that his opinion may offend someone. Personally, I am more for real actions than for protests that do not bring anything.
It's really funny, when the old generation complains about the new generation's sensitivity but forgets that they themselves created snowflakes. They raised them that way. What did they expected?
In my opinion beeing too sensitive is dangerous for snowflakes, but we may need their sensitivity. But not in the "it's offensive" form. We need more empathetic people in order to create better world for everyone. Emotional intelligence is a key here- they have to discover that term and learn about their feeling and emotions. And I belive that snowflakes with a control over their emotions will change the world for better. Maybe they will end modern slavery in poor countries? Who knows? But we have to help them- without that they are going to melt.
I love that there's an insulation lorry casually driving along in the background of the video.
Just a normal, hardworking person trying to make a living, drifting past a bunch of navel-gazing virtue signallers, who have so much spare time and money on their hands that they can afford to sit around protesting the crimes of someone who died 114 years ago.
Millions of people are people are living in dictatorship and squalor around the world right now, and this is the cause these layabout students spend their time promoting...

I definitely agree with points made in first video. I think that many people are pushing borders of "what's offensive" further and further. This leads to a situation where we are too scared to say our opinions because they might be offensive to someone. For me this isn't normal and this isn't how things should be.

When it comes to the second video. I agree that man should be able to defend themselves and others. That they shouldn't be scared to stand for their beliefes etc. However, "paying somebody to kill someone" seems to me like a weird way to prove your manhood. Maybe his generation was created by World War II but certainly people like him have started it.

Snowflakes generation... Yeah, I've noticed that too. Nowadays it's soo easy to offend somebody - it's ridiculous. They take themselves too seriously. We have a generation of beta males. You can easly see the lack of alpha males - there are less of male role models. Everybody's looking for help instead of get their shit togrther and handle the situation. I really enjoy the iinterview with Dan Pena - couple seconds was enough to see that he's a man, not a boy. Millennials simply can't relate to someone like Dan Pena because they did not grow up with the World War II generation. Political correctness have huge influence on our behaviour. Nowadays if you want to start the topic about racism, hate speech, religion, politics, feminist you have to be really carefull. We created a generation of "grey people" with same ideas and views -> all the exception must be eliminated. I have to tell that this system is very convinient for goverment or other people with power. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally against racism and intolerance - but everything has it's boundaries. I think we should find role male and female models for ourselves and stick to it, find a way to become trully aware and awake person making their decision by themselves, not, by the influence of others.
I wasn't familiar with "Snowflake" generation unit now, and as I understand it, it's a term for people which "melts under pressure". But is it a matter of this particular generation ? I don't think so. It's true that in the example mentioned by Dan Pena, making a question about what kind of day did other person had was shocking to me, I was also shocked of Dan Pena anger and frustration. Aggression is not always a way of solving problems. Also this generation was raised by those "super tough" guys, so... Also his example with handshake preassure was funny for me.

About first video - I think that as long as You are not offencing anyone, You should be able to say what do want and what You think. Of course the problem is to define what is the "border", because it's always very personal, but in my opinion censoring particular words or topics it's not a solution. You won't fight a crime if You will not talk/watch/read about it. You won't fight racism if You forbid a few words. There will always be people who are extremist , but both sides might have them. I agree with the older lady - nowadays people should try to challenge diffuculties.
After watched those videos i think a snowflakes generation is inevitable, because now we have a good times (no war, no comunism etc.) and this genereation grew up in easy going, Snowflakes don’t need to know how to build a house or reapir something in a house. We don’t have to know that, becasue now financial status is better than before, now we can rent somebody to do this for us (we don’t have to mess our hands). In my opinion many people loss their head the reason a prosperity and their looking only a pleasure without any effort. In this time "children are hiding behind mothers skirts". The parents wants to raise their children without any bruises, whithout any torn trousers. I think the main problem is how way parents rise their children.

I agree with you 100 percent. I think the same way that people don't see racism unless they are their victim. People who have already been treated badly for example by a different skin color know what's going on. I think that everyone has the right to vote, no matter if he is a victim of discrimination or not. Racism also comes from what is shown on television, for example by manipulating people that another race is considered to be better than ours.
In my opinion, the problem of racism in Poland is negligible.
Poland is an ethnically homogeneous country. Nowadays, we can observe an increase in the number of immigrants who are coming to Poland in order to work, for example, Ukrainians and Belarussians.
In the European Union, we observe a very high inflow of immigrants, mainly from Asia and Africa.
Most immigrants are economic migrants who are encouraged to come for getting high benefits.

Western countries have more and more problems with immigrants.

In Europe, we can observe more and more racist, xenophobic behavior related to the diversity of newcomers.

There is more and more violence due to the color of the skin and ethnity.

Nationalism is growing in strength, a very dangerous phenomenon that in the past ended with the Holocaust of the Jewish population.

In my opinion, moderate immigration is good, but immigration, in which Germany or another indigenous nationality becomes a minority, is very dangerous for both parties, because it can lead to civil war as it did in the old Yugoslavia.

I would definitely agree that today we observe a rise of snowflakes in developed countries. I think one of the reasons of it is that today, in 21st century, people live too well. Citizens of countries of Western Europe and North America don’t have any wars on their territory, they do not suffer from extremly high level of corruption, and they are protected by law and order. Of course, no country is perfect, but it is obvious that they have one of the highest standards of living. That’s why, for some people, their biggest concern is to make sure no one hurts their feelings. They become fragile snowflakes who get hurt and offended by any small thing.
There are no doubts that racism and sexism are disgusting in their nature and should be condemned by society. Problem is that, unfortunately, some people take it to extreme and start to look for racism, sexism or transphobia where there are simply no signs of them. So called SJWs (social justice warriors) get offended by literally everything, from hula girl doll in a taxi to guys wearing “offensive” Halloween costumes. But the saddest thing is that they start to interfere in developing process of games, movies and books more and more. They demand to show “respect” and add BAME or transgender character to a story, even if he/she doesn’t belong to that world, just for the sake of having him or her there. And if you refuse to do so then you are immediately labeled racist, sexist and transphobic. This type of people often say that words matter but ironically, they themselves feel absolutely free to blindly accuse people of intolerance.
I believe that eventually our society will evolve and such things as racism or sexism, even their slightest manifestations, will disappear forever. I just think that today, in our days, absolute majority of people aren’t intolerant, and this generation of snowflakes is fighting against problems, they thought up themselves.

I agree that people from “Snowflake Generation” are taking offence much more than any previous generations. The Snowflake people have a problem with challenges in their life so they create trouble for other people because they are angry with the issues in their lives. I can agree that there should be no place for death threats or violence in public space. But I also think that We shouldn’t be politically correct in all places.

The video featuring Dan Pena for me was really funny, especially when he was describing what is “Snowflake Generation” and when he told a story about his cousin who went to jail for being involved in stabbing a guy seventeen times because somebody said that his girlfriend looked like a “pig in a gunny sack”

Both videos talks about “Generation Snowflakes”. I haven’t heard this definition before.
I agree that generally we are becoming more weak and thin skinned. We live in times of peace.
But it is not true for all young persons and it depands on personality, upbringing and culture. It's only an subgroup.
I think that this is not very big problem in Poland and Mr Dan Pena examples are too exaggerated.

The first video was interesting to me, I agree with mrs Fox, that now people often are overreacting to words. Almost everything that we say can insult some feminist or body-positivist (even this phrase, lol). People become really thin-skinned.
The interesting thing about this first video is the fact that students, that were there, listening to this dark-skinned guy (is it tolerant enough?) were mostly white. But we are talking about racism, don’t we? Well, tolerance is just a trend now.
I hated second video though. His point of view was pretty similar to mrs Fox’s, but those examples that he made and generally the way he express his opinion made me hate him, so I won’t comment it :)
We should be tolerant, but not too tolerant, we should react to racist stuff but not overreact. We just should not forgot about our humanity.

Our culture is changing and times as well. One of the causes of passing the time is the problem with mixed generations which set us as a society in a situation like this. In my opinion, there is no perfect solution to make everyone happy. I'm so glad that we approach topics like this from different perspectives, people who had a chance to live in other than nowadays day to day routine. To grow as a human civilization, we have to argue about such topics. We used to be separated and created our own cultures. Later on, at some point in time, some people didn't like the rules and decided to cross some boundaries and discovered new impressive cultures, people and thoughts. I think now we have a very similar situation, with a difference that we do have an internet connection and it's much easier to share our thoughts using it. That's a tip of an iceberg, and I'm so sure that we will mention snowflakes as people who had a significant impact on us - humans in the next hundred years.
The clips presented highlight an emerging problem of a generation of people too meek and unprepared for the hardships of life. Ones that treat an opposing opinion as if it was physical harm done to them. I wouldn’t go as far as Dan Pena does in his verdicts, but I do agree that this ‘special snowflake’ society can lead to a lasting harm for our whole civilization. I find it mind boggling that in the day where the topic of free speech is brought up more often than ever before, we have a growing group of individuals that are very keen on and happy with limiting that right for people that don’t share their exact worldview. The ‘snowflakes’ seem to also be very prone to witch hunts and public shaming, oftentimes laced with death threats and such, which is even more surprising when considering their meek disposition.

By their ideology, as a white heterosexual man I’d not even allowed to argue my point, because of some apparent ‘privilege’ that I’ve never experienced. A ‘privilege’ that allows them to cast slurs in my general direction without a right for retaliation. I’m not thrilled with the concept of living in a world where I need to watch every word that I say so that I don’t, god forbid, offend someone’s ego or hurt their brittle feelings. I didn’t exactly have a rough and harsh upbringing, but I’ve had my fair share of unpleasant experiences that made me stronger and less prone to bouts of uncontrollable aggravation just from having someone say something nasty my way. I’m the last person to wish anything bad upon others, but perhaps the 'snowflake generation' could use some of that mental durability.

I don't think that any kind of extremism is good and saying anything that you can think of without consideration about others is as bad as being overly sensitive about everything that you hear. I really don't like the idea of censoring ideas just because someone might not like it and feel offended, especially in places like universities, where people should come against different opinions and to learn how to fight them or defend or find their own opinion on some problem.

I would like to quote ( https://www.vox.com/culture/2017/9/11/16288826/pewdiepie-n-word-playerunknown-battlegrounds ) an article which is about very famous youtuber PewDiePie: ‘’became the target of massive backlash after months of seeding his videos with Nazi imagery, including one instance where he displayed a sign reading (Death to all Jews.) Now he has courted controversy by uttering the n-word during a gaming live stream.’’. By watching his channel we can observe how small mistakes have affect on your image on the internet. His channel is based mostly on comedy. After one video in which he said “Death to all Jews” all people who don’t get the joke blamed him how Nazi hi is etc. Sometimes when we writing something in public we must know, there is a lot of people on this planet and they can understand us in different way. Unfortunately we must to confront with haters because if we gonna speak in public, there will always be one person who will be insulted.
I think a snowflakes generation is very weak people first of all because parents try to exclude all negative and wrong things from their life and after that they don't able to fight with real world challenges and don't accept any other opinion. In our world when a lot of people fight for single rights for all and government accept this position I think children will be much more impressible and this will be very bad because our world not always so good as we want. So we need to fight with phenomenon called a snowflakes generation.
Snowflakes. To be honest, it is the first time I hear this term however I've been aware about this for a long time. Both videos has some sense. The second one was a bit funny though.
The problem here in outliers, if I can call it that way. I can understand both sides, but I can't say that I support one of them. There have to be a balance. I agree that words can hurt. But we are in charge of what to accept or decline. By that I mean if somebody is trying to offend you, just by words you shouldn't immediately respond to that. Because this is the purpose of the offender. To make you suffer. But what if you could just pass it ?
Yes, it might be unpleasant. However if you show that person that you just don't care, what he or she thinks about you it can be even more painful for that person. Im not saying that this is the solution to everything.
There are cases, when you need to stand for yourself or your beloved or even for someone who just needs help. Unfortunately there are people in this world who trys to offend others by phisical means. In this case I guess it is not reasonable just to ignore that. I can be wrong, but in my opinion some action should be done.
For example paper spry or some similar tools can be used in oreder to defend yourself of the close ones.
I haven’t know the term Snowflakes, but it's pretty accurate. We live in a world where you can't tell your opinion about someone as it could offend him. Young adults, who grew up with their parents in a big house where everything was given to them, don’t know the world. They are weak and not resistant to any criticism. Even little threat shouldn’t be such scary, but those people are used to live in a safe place.
People, who grow up on the street, without well-being, or with parents, who know how brutal is life, are a lot of tough now, and they don’t care about any offensive opinions. They are more humane than the Snowflakes generation.

"Snowflake melts under pressure", a great confirmation and presentation of some very important issues nowadays. Real men are slowly turning into women - dress like women, talk, behave and even greet. You can get to know a man after a handshake and tell a lot about him.

To be honest, I would be in favor of restoring compulsory military service nowadays because many people (cu#ts ) would become real men what we need nowadays because the male species is already extinct. You can see that a lot of people need to learn respect for another human being, their wife or mother! Seeing what is going on the internet and youtube like the spits on their own mothers – watching this I want to cry. I think that the service would teach such people how to treat their twin with respect.
This is a huge problem, I know that the article is about racism but what Paweł is talking about is much more worth attention.
I am a woman, I see what is happening around me and my friends, it is monstrous how men can behave and treat women in such environments. Of course, I'm not talking about everyone, I'm talking more about it, because it's too frequent. Indeed, there is a tendency to reduce women's skills due to gender.
The worst, however, are cases when a woman goes to the environment (eg a workplace) where women are only single units. In such places also bad things happen and women who are often bullied don't want to do anything about it because they are afraid.

I first encountered the term "Snowflakes generation" last year at my workplace. In my working team, there were usually "fierce" discussions on various social phenomena and world news. But not this time, all colleagues agreed that the development of youth in this direction is a negative phenomenon, since such people are less resistant to life difficulties and gifts of fate. But the paradox of the phenomenon is that such a phenomenon is the result of positive living conditions. In one of the comments above, the topic of the generations of the Second World War and the difference between ours and their generations was touched upon, and I have to agree that this is indeed the case. But it has historically happened and no one is to blame.
This is a very delicate topic, and not only its discussion, but also the struggle against the phenomenon of the generation of snowflakes should be moderate and complex. But as it seemed to me, Dan Pena goes too far, although it may be so because he is an adherent of the old school.

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...
