Week 10 [30.05 - 05.06] Collage in Art

Collage in art. 4 artists you should know about

1. Mary Lum

Interdisciplinary artist Mary Lum in her collage work combines photographic fragments of urban
architecture, architecural elements found in vintage comic books and acrylic print on a paper to
creat new spaces suggesting the intertwined facts and fictions of urban experience.
Cutting and layering paper is analogous to wandering it the city. In her works we can find fatastic
world mixed with our everyday views. Mary has been member in the Visual Arts department of
Bennington Collage since 2005.

2. Gordon Magnin

Images from highfashion , bodybuilding and pornography are based choice of the artist. He plays
with human body in every possible way. Repetition, converting, using geometrical shapes lets him
create inimitalbe humans creatures. His art is somehow discomposing and refer to this days cult
of the body.

3. Virginia Echeverria

As she says she attempts to to make manifest an invisible energy of the metaphysical world.
By combinations of variety textures, shapes, colors, and materials ranging from colored paper and
magazine cutouts she creats magical world. Her works build nice mood around. Kind of naive
pictures seems to be the memoir of childhood.

4. Jose Romussi

Jose is a forerunner in his technic, in addition to paper and glue, he adds a third element to the
traditional components of collage : thread. Based in Berlin, the Chilean artist adds colorful
embroidery to vintage or new photographs, adding meaning to abstract gestures or underlining
their dynamic. Combinations of black&withe pictures with vivid threads give strongly estetic effect
which can also have a not allways obvious meaning

From artists presented by you I like the most Gordon Magnin. I don’t know too much about artists but those collages looks cool. Collages are interesting because they show more than only simplicity. I noticed that collages are popular among many faculties - in art, fashion, during planning, but also in architecture especially in interior design. Even in IT we have kind of collages during prototyping of user interface. I can also observe something similar in cuisine, shops and basically everywhere around me.
I like the most Jose Romussi, because he combines black-white pictures with colours and this for me looks amazing. I am also not so interested in art and I can’t say too much about it. As Marcin said I know collages from Human-Computer interaction classes where we had prototyping. I guess it is very important among web designers and user experience designers, thay have to prepare prototype of system or website or application from user perspective.

I have never thought about collage as serious art, but I supposed that it wasn’t appriopriate. Indeed it is a separate type of art, which has his own value. It is important the same as painting’s art, sculpture, photography, and other, but I'm sure that it is less known than other fine arts . I like the most Jose Romussi’s works from your example. Thread make a good work. It seems to be very interesting. Based on photos which you showed I would like to see more and more work of this artist.
I also like collages by Gordon Magnin. I'm pretty sure I've seen some collages at museums, but I don't think I can name any works. Thinking about it now, I've probably seen collages by Salvador Dali. He seems like someone who would do wicked collages and I've seen tons of his works.

From your presentation, I like Jose Romussi best. His works really look interesting. (I can see that him and Gordon Magnin are the commenters' favourites).

As I'm mainly interested in darker, more ethereal and gothic kind of art, I can recommend an artist called Caryn Drexl. She's interested in various forms of expression - photography, dollmaking, photomanipulation - but recently she started to experiment more on the field of collage, using photographs, fabrics, and embroidery hoops.

The works of art you presented are interesting. I also fink works of Hannah Hoch and Raoul Hausmann to be interesting.

I have never heard of these artists nor did I think collage can be so interesting. From the artists you have presented I liked Gordon Magnin the most and I'm quite surprised because I didn't expect to enjoy such artworks. Actually I got so intrigued I googled to see more collage artists and found some pretty cool things like the works of John Stezaker.

I think that's not my piece of cake or maybe these artists don't fell to my liking. I don't know any other artists because I've never been interested in collage but I found interesting link to webstiste with 10 top collage artist: http://www.anothermag.com/art-photography/3318/top-10-collage-artists-hannah-hoch-to-man-ray

Thank you for the presentation :) I really enjoyed all the works, especially those by Jose Romussi.

I started my adventure with art with digital collages :) I think it's a very accessible type of art and also one of the most underrated, because it's rarely what we consider 'beautiful' and, as you've mentioned, the meaning isn't immediately obvious. Art, of course, doesn't have to be beautiful or meaningful, but with collages the issue seems even trickier. I heard people say it's not art at all, because 'how can newspaper clippings, random objects and glue be art'. I must say, it got to me; I stopped making them and cannot really go back to it :(

Still, I think collages are fascinating, precisely because they combine such different media and objects we wouldn't even think to put together. They seem to me like a crossover between painting and sculpture, they are ~flat but somehow tactile. One thing I really enjoyed about making collages is how easy it was to actually obscure the idea I had behind them, leaving the interpretation solely to the viewer.

1.What do You think about that artists?
I dont follow arts at all, but after reading your presentation i think i like his works. That kind of art reminds me of CD-Covers or something like that :D

2.Do You generally find collage interesting or it is a trivial technique of art?

I never really thought about it, 1st thing that comes to my mind after hearing "collage" is kindergarten. I guess I will have to educate myself more in terms of art.
I don't know much about the art, not to mention something like collage. But I can say - that in art the best thing is that - you can do whatever you want in way you like. Artist aren't limited to anything but their imaginary. And this is fascinating - every artist has a chance to surprise and become great.
Collage looks very futuristically, like ahead of their time.

For me the best of this four artist you have presented is Gordon Magnin. His vision of art is really interresting. I was looking for some more information about collage art, and I found some interesting informations that even Pablo Picasso had some nice works.

I am ignorant when it comes to art. Collage is definitely not my kind of thing. I guess I do not understand it.

Personally, I like Jose Romussi. Those ballet dancers look artistic in opposite to Gordon Magnin which art looks really trivial to me. Maybe I’m wrong but at a glance it looks like a kid could do something similar.

It's an really intersting topic, I like this kind of art. Every piece is really unique and special in their own way.

I'm familiar with the style, but I don't follow artists at all and to be honest collage is not my cup of tea. Although I wouldn't say it's trivial - quite the opposite, I just rarely find it aesthetically pleasing.

Definitelly not my piece of bread. For me it is something that any kid who knows Photoshop is able to do, however, I can be wrong because I've never was interested in modern art and all that great ideas inside simple things.

The concept of art changes so dramatically that it’s hard to follow. From the pictures the most interesting in my opinion is Mary Lum, as I mentioned above it’s hard to call something art when you don’t see the “beauty” in it, it’s not because we have narrows minds but because art for each one of us is something different. I don’t know or ever heard about the artists, it’s hard to judge any of them just by one-three pictures, every artist has it’s better and worse work. Definitely each artist is unique they put their soul into the work and each work is interesting.

When it comes to collage art - when you looking at this, it seems a very easy and that anyone could do it. Trivially simple and yet you have to be an artist of great imagination to połącyć photos with graphics like. I like this technique. Most of these I like the work of Mary Lum. The classic old school and incredibly connected. I dream of a poster in the house as the above.

Actually I never heard about these artists. Their style is somehow recognized by me, so I must have seen their work before. It is somehow strange as I might have seen their works many times and didn't know their authors. But I rather have problem with memorizing names so it might be the case.
I think that collage is an interesting form of art. It creates new realities simply by combining some elements together. It is a little bit like cooking - you create something unique by joining some known flavours together.
I like Mary Lum and Gordon Magnin the most from the artists you presented. I am a fan of surreal collages that are photos of nature manipulated to show alternate realities. Here you can look at some of Yang Yongliang's works. I also appreciate the atmosphere of Victoria Siemer's photomanipulations. I also recommend looking at Travis Bedel's work. Alexander Korzer-Robinson's art is also very interesting.
Where in your opinion is a line between collage and other disciplines of art? I mean, for example this quilling technique that is becoming more and more popular among artists or some photomanipulations, such as Margarita Kareva's work?

I'm a fan of Gordon Magnin. I really like his work and I can not say which is my favorite.
Jose Romussi seems to me interesting. Generally I view this art as interesting.
Collage pays the viewer's attention.
The artist can create works with many materials. Thanks to the fact he can easier show what he feels.

1.What do You think about that artists?

Niiicee!!! really good looking estethic pieces of art! I love to watch it, but never thought of making one. Maybe one day I would try it?

2.Do You generally find collage interesting or it is a trivial technique of art?

Well anything, no matter if simple or complex can be any of these - i think if something looks good it just looks good and the opposite. I think the techinque doesn't matter as much as the final product. It can be some value but never expressing the whole final product.
Unknown said…
To be honest I don't understand this kind of art :P I didn't know these artists before but none of them has charmed me with their works :P I somehow like the concept of mixing media, styles and creating something completely new. Photography and some graphic elements can look really good together :)

I really like collage art in general, It always reminds me of children's cut-outs in the good way, they feel like return to the roots. I like how important texture is in collages. From the artists you linked to Virginia Echeverria Whipple appeals to me the most.

I am not particularly interested in arts, and have never thought anything about collage art. From the artists You have described for us Jose Romussis art seems the most interesting to me and I will definatelly check out more of his creations. From what I have read the topic of collage art might be a quite interesting one and I will deinfatelly look to see what other artists have to offer.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr
