Week 3 // AIRLINES

  Week 3 //

The low-cost airlines’ development in the last few years has allowed us to travel all over the world in a pretty easy and quite cheap way. Nowadays we cannot imagine our life without the fastest and easiest way of communication- aircrafts.

The main advantage of  low-cost airlines  is obviously the price, which allows almost all of us to travel  by plane practically all over the world. What I mean is that we can travel at a much lower price, compared to traditional carriers. In addition, there is no big difference between the onboard security on a planes operated by the low-cost and traditional/legacy carries.  Another point in favor of low-cost airlines (due to the international air law)  is that the qualification and competence of pilots and cabin attendants  are at the equal level.

On the other hand, the low-cost airlines offer us way less comfortable  crafts than the traditional ones. What is more, those low-cost carriers are thinking now to change the seats in order to reduce the space between them. Another downside is that they have more inconvenient flight schedules, which cause at times giant delays. Perhaps, the most important disadvantage of low-cost companies is that they usually fly to minor and more distant airports, which may lead to additional transport expenses. Also you have to pay for everything extra. And when I say everything I mean EVERYTHING. I’m sure you get it, right? You go to the web site and you find this amazing cheap ticket but when you finish filling in all the needed  forms you realise that the price at the end is far different from that one at the beginning. But I must admit that it is still cheaper.

Here is a funny parody of the Rayanair flight:

And the comparison - some of the best airlines in the world:

When I want to catch a great deal I usually buy tickets offered by traditional carriers a few months earlier or I wait for some great last minute options from low - cost airlines. I always try to stick to with some rules/ tips, which are extremely helpful in such situations. Firstly, I always follow airlines on social media. It is convenient because I check them regularly so I can be up to date with some of the best ticket deals. It is easier when you don’t have to fly somewhere concrete and your dates are flexible, because you can buy good deals no matter what the destination is. I also use some user-friendly websites, which search for tickets from different airlines and compare them in order to come up with the best deal.

Here you can fing the rest of the tips:  TIPS

Here are few link that are really useful for me :  www. skyscanner.com
  ,  www.momondo.com

In conclusion, I believe that low-cost airlines have considerably revolutionized travel. This means that more people are able to travel all over  the world than ever before. The  air travel used to be for the elite, but now with the low-cost airlines, it has become an option  practically for all of us.

How about you? How do you plan your trip when you need a plane ticket? Do you have any useful tips?

The longest direct flight I've had took 25 hours. It was from Singapore to Sydney. The whole journey from Warsaw to Sydney takes up to 40 hours in the air.
I was in the economy class and even though it took so long to reach the destination, me and my family had a great time. The plane had 8 or 10 rows of seats, 3 or 2 on the sides of the plane, and 4 seats in the middle. On the back of each seat there was a flat screen and a system to control it. We could watch the most recent movies, listen to music or track the progress of the flight. We were all walking around the plane once per a couple of hours to strech. There were light above our heads which we could turn off/on, helpful if you want to read a book when it's dark. But the light above my sisters seat broke and we couldn't turn it off for the rest of the flight (more than 10 hours). For that we were refunded $100 to spend in the duty-free section :-)

I really love to travel and I think flying is often the best and the cheapest way of traveling. I frequently look for cheap flights and choose a destination based on flights I've found. I have never traveled anywhere with a travel agency and I would much rather plan everything myself and choose where to go and what to see. Actually my whole family travels that way – when I was a child we didn't plan our trips but got into a car and stopped wherever we wanted (we had a final destination chosen but we stopped by many interesting places on the way). Now I more often travel by plane because it’s faster, cheaper and more comfortable but I’m a huge fun of getting a car in the place where I am and traveling freely (My parents also really like to fly and started to do it more often). My sister does the same thing, she have already been to Vietnam, Sri Lanka, India thanks to cheap flights. I don’ remember how long did my longest flight take but it was from Frankfurt to Toronto.

One of sites I use to look for tickets is this one:
http://www.fly4free.pl/
OMG I cannot imagine 25 hour flight:P I barely survived a flight london - cape town to be honest:P But unfortunately to cape town I flew alone and on my way back me and my sister were seated in different sections of the plane so that was pretty unfortunete.
It's good that they gave you something for it:P Did you buy something nice?
What airlines did you fly? Did you enjoy Sydney. I would really like to visit Australia some day...:)
I agree - travelling by plane is super fast and can be really cheap. I like your approach. My family used to travel with travel agencies but for quite a while we switched to travelling by ourselves.
What was the best destination you managed to visit due to cheap flight? Which arlines your family usually picks?
I am really curious about Sri Lanka, does you sister recommends?
Thanks for the site!

I agree that low-cost airlines have revolutionized travel. Anyone can travel around the world, sometimes even cheaper than using conventional ground transport.

I usually look for cheap flights or charter flights with some travel agency. They can be pretty cheap too and the most important thing - I don't need to transfer to some other plane. Just like Paulina, I also use http://www.fly4free.pl/. They have great deals when it comes to plane tickets as well as accommodation. I hope the idea of cheap flights will still be available in the future.
I think cheap airlines are definately worth considering if you want to travel abroad fast and without spending much. Last November I took RyanAir to get to London and I don't regret it. I booked the tickets in advance, so they were really cheap. I think it may be the key - when you know that you'll have a holiday break on the particular day in a few months from now, it's the best time to plan your travel and book the flight.

In September one of my friends took a flight to Belgium. The flight was so cheap that he actually paid more for the taxi from an airport :)

It's easy to secure a cheap flight if you know long before that you're going to travel or if you simply don't mind the destination and fly with last minute. I don't mind the quality of the plane 'cause most of the time I sleep while I'm in the air.

I'm really into traveling so the imposition of the low-cost airlines really reduced my travel expenses. I follow them on the social networks like Instagram or Facebook as well, so I'm always up-to-date. Unfortunately, since I've got a job, it's not that easy to take advantage of the offers, due to the fact that I'm not that flexible with the dates of the flights as I've been before. It was also mentioned in the presentation that the comfort in such planes is on a really low level, but seriously if we're flying into not really distant direction, does it really matter?

Last time I used such method was on January current year. I flew to London for about 70 PLN with Wizzair, so you have to admit that comparing it with the usual prices it was a really good deal! The website www.fly4free.com often prepares offers of the flights with the hotels for the best prices so it's worth to visit it from time to time. I also use sites like www.booking.com so I've lately managed to book a room in a really really good hotel for an totally not adequate to the comfort of that place price (as it was in this case, there are a huge discounts for the last free rooms).

I find traveling as the best thing in life and I always take every opportunity to visit a new place, so reducing the price of a single trip allows me to spend the savings for another one.
I can't say much about traveling by plane and planning it, because In my whole life I only used airplane two times as means of transport, but it was really nice experience. My first flight was form Warsaw to Lisbon and the second one from Lisbon to Warsaw. The best parts of those flights was when in the sky there was not even single cloud and I was able to see earth from the upper perspective and it was really amazing. Also during flight from Lisbon to Warsaw when plane was flying above the Germany we ran into a storm and the plane was in turbulence, almost everyone was very scared, but from perspective of time it was also nice experience.
I heard that Lot is trying to compete with trains on those short flights to different polish cities, they want to be just a little bit expensive from trains so that everyone without a doubt would pick them...I agree that low-cost airlines are revolucionary, what was the best destination you managed to visit via this type of transport?
Hahah omg really, that situations shows the power of low - cost airlines!:D

Did you enjoy London?
I am convinced that the quality can become an issue only on those really long flights, don't you think?

Mallorca! Very cheap flight and I managed to go there on Friday and be back on Monday. I recommend such spontaneous trips :)

I prefer to buy low-cost ticket when I plan my trip. But during shopping I don’t think about what kind of airline I’m buying. For me the most important are prices, date and distance – I choose most comfortable for me. Usually in my life I don’t like make a plans (e.g. I love spontaneous weekend trips) therefore I must to buy tickets in last moments! In search engines exist a lot of low-cost ticket promotion. From time to time I waste a lot of my time on finding interesting offers. I don’t have any useful tips, but if you plan your trip early – buy your ticket earlier. But in my case it is not possible – and the most important is regularity searching :)

Low-cost travels have definitely revolutionized our way of traveling. Thanks to cheap flights we can travel in a fast and efficient way.In my opinion, relatively short time of travel also allow us to travel further in a more comfortable way. I remember my first trip to Italy in a bus, in comparison with airplane travel it was a total nightmare.
I used to buy my tickets half year ahead of flight. Nowadays I don't travel by planes cause I am afraid of flying(although I have travelled by plane 24 times) in a box which is not controlled by me, especially that many crashes happenned because of pilot didn't care enough about stall speed and stalled machine to the ground.
Which airliner can be 25 hours in the air? They usually fly at 920km/h, I don't know any ailriner which can do more than 20 000 km in one flight.
I've done some research. The longest commercial flight I've found was: 18 hr 50 min. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-stop_flight#By_airline_companies_.28currently_scheduled.29

Cheap airlines are great, especially for short-distance flights when convenience is not necessary. When I look for a cheap plane ticket I use travel search engine such as skyscanner.pl. It is the easiest and most convenient way for me.

I appreciate that low cost airlines exist, but I can’t imagine how it is possible to offer flights for 40 zł(e.g. from Warsaw to Stockholm). It is insane.

I've traveled few times by low cost and normal airlines and in my case there was not big difference between those type of airlines. Of course normal airlines are more convenient, airports are located in better place, but lower price in low cost airlines compensate inconvenience. But flight longer than 4 h in budget airlines may be hard. I don't have any special tips how to buy cheap tickets, always use the online comparison sites. Sometimes it happens that the price on home site of airline is lower than this on comparison sites. Next step I make is to find hostel, hotel or any other place to sleep. Here I use booking.com or I google through many forums looking for the best offers. I always wondered how people find flights for 99 PLN or even less, if any of you have any advice, I'm thankful to hear them :)
I try to avoid flying by plane. I’m afraid of this type of transport. On the board I only sit and I’ve no influence of anything. Several hundred tons in the air - it’s scare for me. How about planning trips ? The best is trip without any plan. Totally spontaneously. Usually I reserved only hotel and transportation.
Nice research:D

Still 18 hours is pretty loooooong.....
Sounds lovely! Owww..I want to visit a place like this, especially now when it's getting warmer and warmer....
Hotel reservation is crucial for me. Once I thought I don't need this I will be fully spontaneous..it was a mistake....

Possibly, but I've been flying since I was very young and I really like it (or rather don't go too excited about it) so even if I had to fly for 24hours it wouldn't be to bothersome. Guess some people really need more comfort, lol.

Flying is one of my favorite ways of traveling. I'm not picky when it comes to taking a low-cost airline, but I do prefer taking the normal ones. I try to buy my tickets in advance to get the best prices, but I also look at websites posting info about discounts or cheapest flights. When it comes to tips I have only two: comfy clothes and a good book are a must for longer flights.

From time to time I look for interesting offers on fly4free and other sites. When I find something what suits me I start to search for some hotel or flat at airbnb. If both searches are succesful - I just decide to go to that place.

In February I've found some cheap flight to Brussel, later I've found hotel in Brugge and bus from Charleois airport to Brugge for 5 euros and from 20 to 24 March I was on citybreak in Belgium. Spontaneous trips are best in my opinion - you can always use cheaper 'last minute' options.

Low-cost airlines are great because of cost and only because of that. Usually there is less space for your legs, food is of lower quality and sometimes technical state of planes is at least questionable. I flew a few times using service of such low-cost airlines as Ryanair, Wizz Air and easyJet and every time there was some visible damage inside the plane like destroyed seats or toilet out of service. I would not buy a seat in such plane for longer trip.

Last year I found some cheap tickets to Ireland for St.Patrick's day. 20euros both ways. That gave me an oportunity to meet with my Erasmus friends and celebrate Paddies:)

I really like low cost ticket and iI often use it. For me it is the best way to spend holidays. This is wary comfortable and fast way to travel but i have to spend a lot of time to found good ticket. I really like charter ticket - often on the pages of travel agencies can find something like that. This is comfortable way to found cheap ticket to strange place on the world.

I usually buy airline tickets with tour. I prefer last minute trips. This way you can save money and have a very good holiday in a luxury hotel
I heard about the flight promotions, for example „szalone środy” in LOT. You can buy cheaper ticket to your destination, it is really cool.

Low cost flights make it possible for people to make spontaneous trips for a few days. For example you can go to Madrid for two days and pay less than 200zl for your journey. It's especialy favourable for young people if they don't have money for long, expensive trips. They can just check out websites with low cost flights, pick one, book a hotel and go on their trip. Few months ago I read article about fans of planes who enjoy buying low cost flights having the same return and departure day.

I’ve never flown on any airplane. I wish I could go someday on a plane but I’m a little scared of flying because I have a fear of heights. I think that I would check as many times as possible airlanes if they are save enough. I can’t say more about useful tips but I would read others’ tips and maybe in the future try using them :)

I agree with you, I think that low-cost airlines has changed a world. When I think about the past, when I was a child. I remember it was so unreal for me to even get to the airplane, and my first journey was mix of fright and excitement in the same time ;D And it was a DEAL, I mean - it was SOMETHING. And now? I can get pretty many flight one year, more than I have done for last 10 years... It became an equivalent, a cheap one, to travel fast and very very cheap (it is often cheaper than trains, or traveling by car..). And the world is no longer so big! :D

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr
