Internet television is a hot topic nowadays. It appears everywhere: in the traditional TV (“Hey, just after my program go to www.something and watch the rest of the episode”), in ads in magazines:“New episode of …. TV premiere: This Sunday. Watch today on www.somethingelse”.

I believe everyone with the Internet access did already watch some kind of TV show on the
Internet. In my opinion we will be soon trying to get rid of TV and everything you want to
watch will be available on the Internet, from legal sources, of course.
Currently, in Poland, we have got access to several VOD (Video On Demand) and Internet
Television services: HBO GO, Horizon TV from UPC, IPLA from Polsat, Player.pl from TVN,
AXN Player, Cineman VOD from Onet and another VOD from TVP.
Prices for the services vary from free (Player.pl, TVP VOD, IPLA), others are delivered with the
cable service (Horizon TV) and the rest is available as 'standalone' service (only recently HBO
GO and Cineman).
I use Horizon and HBO GO on a regular basis and I’m really happy with it. It allows me to
watch TV on my tablet, the internet connected TV or even PC.
If it was possible to get rid of TV having these services, I would be ready to change. For example, HBO made it easy allowing to order its service in the standalone version without the cable agreement.

Also I’m looking forward to services like Netflix and Hulu to appear in Poland and I do already use them using VPN network. It’s some kind of “almost legal” workaround but it works. I’m able to watch premiere shows and pay their makers for it.
How are Netflix and Hulu different? These are Internet-only
platforms. There are no TV channels of Netflix or Hulu. All their series are published on the Internet and can be watched only there. And what’s good about Netflix: usually the whole series is published at once so you can watch it during one day or adjust frequency of watching next episodes to your free time.
Recently, Polish UPC subsidiary, have started tests of MyPrime (source:
http://www.telecompaper.com/news/upcpolandintroducesmyprimefilmsandseries1051395): Netflix style video service with over 1000 movies, programs and series.
Sources state that it will cost only 20 PLN per month, which makes it another service I’m willing to order.
Do you use any Internet TV(live)?
What about VOD (Video On Demand)?
Do you have a TV-set ? How much time per day/week do you watch it?
Are you willing to get rid of it if you are will be able to watch anything on the Internet?
Do you watch premiere episodes of series on the Internet or do you wait for their TV premiere?

That's why I think watching interesting episodes online is a very good marketing step forward. Ads are still there (really annoying, because we are not used to watch 1:30 minutes of advertisements in the Internet), so they still have their income what means it still can be free for us to use. There is also very nice feature that allows you watching episodes online directly on your tablet (handy) or even your TV :)
And I think that the size is a magnificent advantage of TV. For example I almost never watch TV, but when I do (once per half a year :D ) It's because something interested has already been broadcasted few days ago and I'd like to watch it, and here comes the choice - I prefer to watch it on a bigger screen than on my computer's one.
I only wonder what is a future of Television. Maybe similar to music? I am not really into listening radio anymore, I like the music I choose. I really like the option, which is provided by spotify: you have ads - you can use it for free, but with possibility of choise what you want to listen to; you pay monthly - like for Netflix, as you mentioned, and you can watch everything you want to legally even without any ads.
I don't use VOD.
I spend about 15 - 30 minutes weekly on watching some news.
Yes, my TV may be gone in the future.
Recently I've read interesting article why the level of TV programs is getting lower and lower. People claim that they need to watch some high quality programs and when they are at home they prefer to see "Farmer is looking for a wife ("Rolnik Szuka Żony"). It's the exact thing you mentioned. People don't need interesting stuff after their workday - the prefer to entertainment.
Discovery and Animal Planet still maintain high quality programms. Unfortunately, recently National Geographic Channel became another station transmitting low quality programs with product ads in them.
I love concept of Spotify and Spotify Family account: I pay like 40 zlotys per month for 4 people listening to music from legal source. It's just 10 zlotys per person per month - and it's easier than to look for another MP3 source when previous is being shutdown.
Ads are problem, as you've mentioned are not used to them on the Internet and I would prefer to pay some small amount of money to get rid off them.
When it comes to the size of screen: you've got plenty of applications for ie. Samsung Smart TV - which are still using Internet to download video content for you.
@Paulina do you think a tv can remains only with news channel? That's interesting... It would be so much easier to check things on internet, or maybe some new medium would be invented? no idea! :D
I believe it's still watching TV.
News channels in future? No way...
In my opinion these electronic chips they want to put under our skin will be able to handle news and present to us for example transfering sound over bones or there will be similar technology invented to present image transfering it over neurons?
Even now I'm not using TV for news channels, it's easier to find news on the Internet.
When I lived with my parents I had VOD, which I used often. I think it is great, the quality is HD and it is easy to use. It has also a big variety of movies, series and programs.
My parents watch almost everything on VOD.
Actually, I spend a lot of time watching movies and series, because it is my favorite way to relax and chill. So I would love to have Netflix.
I have to say that I rarely watch either. I truly prefer watching movies in cinema (recently i saw Interstellar in IMAX and I highly recommend it!). On the other hand i do own a 3d-supportive monitor (http://www.lg.com/pl/monitory/lg-DM2752D-PZ-led) that is only used for a PlayStation or watching movies.
I do have cable TV (came with the Internet connection) but as I'm considering changing the provider, well, the TV was never a desirable. The only two appliances it ever had was watching snooker games stream or Phineas and Ferb (really funny!!).
I quite agree with Paulina that the Internet has everything that's necessary for me. And if I want to watch a movie I usually go to the cinema. :)
I mean why don't you wait a month or something and the watch few episodes in a row ?
Just like you i stopped watching tv for 6-7 years because internet replaced everything i need. I only wish netflix was in poland so i could go with legaly buying cheap movies.
I watch Kuba Wojewódzki show on kuba.tvn.pl sometimes. In the past I used itv(I believe it was named this way) to watch first five seasons of "How I Met Your Mother"(it became way to boring to watch it anymore) and "Penguins of Madagascar"(PL) and I am very thankful to Netflix for producing "House of Cards"(!!!!!).
On the other hand, there is no way that using any sort of internet tv will be more convienient than using torrent. Even if you didn't care about money, they have to stream it for you every time(you need to have fast connetion), also you need to undergo annoying process of payment(login, password, text message etc.), authorization to log into your account(login, password).
If I want to watch something I watch it in the Internet.
But If you ask about it, I don’t watch Live Internet TV. I don’t have enough time for it. I watch when I have a free time, so vod is perfect for me.
I don’t have my own Tv-set. Uhmm, how much time I spend on watching TV? I don’t know, but it’s not very much. I watch sth when I eat. I don’t like eat alone, so TV on the Internet is my comapnion :P
Of course I watch premiere episodes of series on the Internet. I’m too impatient to wait for TV premiere episodes of my favourite series.
In the case of VOD - I use sometimes player.pl and ipla. I have TV-set and television from vectra. I rarely use cable TV. Most often I watch films or series from my PC (DLNA streaming to TV). I'm not interesting in any series to look forward to the premiere episode. Frequently I watch the whole season at once :)
Well, i would lie if id say i never even glanced on tv screen, i did sometimes watch cooking channels and discovery (when i had it). But now it's not available and most of this channels are not showing same content i liked so much.
And here comes again, the internet. Most tv programs already begun to upload reruns on websites making it even better for me since there was no ads and i could choose myself which episodes to watch.
Also just like many people, i watch plenty of tv series and waiting for them on tv is just a bad idea, that's why just like you I'm eager to wait until Netflix services comes to Poland so i can legally watch tv series and some movies that i missed in cinema, instead of buying dvds (which are also a pain for me since i only buy dvds and cds of medias i like REALY much).
That's why I'm all up for the internet streaming, i am also willing to pay monthly subscription if i will be in charge of what programs i can watch and if provider will get rid of adds (since we actually pay for those services). I just hope that IPs won't get in conflict as well as some tv stations. However i know some tv stations which are also going into web.
Do not forget a point in which YT became a close imitation of television, as far as i know there was more than 10 series made specifically for YT and they were not some low budget student movies, instead they had same budget as one from major tv station.
Not really, maybe from time to time when I really need it.
What about VOD (Video On Demand)?
I think that is a nice service. But I don't watch that many movies/tv shows to need it.
Do you have a TV-set ? How much time per day/week do you watch it?
Yes. Not much. I leave it turned on all the time mostly, just to have some noise in the background.
Are you willing to get rid of it if you are will be able to watch anything on the Internet?
Nope.
Do you watch premiere episodes of series on the Internet or do you wait for their TV premiere?
I use Internet.
I helped my mom once to play an episode of one of polish series on tvn's vod platform - it was frustrating, because it was constantly buffering and getting stuck.
The thing with foreign series on Polish TV is that the time period between their world and Polish premieres is so long that nobody wants to wait and they simply download it from the Internet. I am not a very patient person, so I watch films/series online. Anyway, I don't think I need such thing as VOD.
I should try this service from UPC about what you say in your presentation. Sound really good. I have never bought something on VOD. I don't watch television a lot, mostly special events. But sometimes my TV is on and playing in the background, when I am doing something else. And of course I watch premiere episodes of series on the Internet, I'm afraind of spoilers, so I want to see new episodes as soon as possible;)
VOD with HD content is great, it allows people not knowing computers that much access content normally unavailable to them.
Seems like everyone is watching premiere TV series on the Internet to avoid spoilers :)
Sometimes people are not afraid that they aren't using legal source.
And about paying for services: what do you think about product placement in the movies you paid for watching? It's less annoying kind of ad (ok, sometimes) but still.
I think it would be great to have service like Netflix in Poland. I watch TV only when I'm preparing and eating meals and especially during dinner there's almost completely nothing to watch. I limit my choice to two channels but must pay for all those channels I never watch or to just have ability to watch some sport events from time to time.
But I'm sure it will change some time, because people are getting used to have everything on demand on the internet.
I prefer to watch series on the Internet simply because I can get all episodes at once.
