Week 4 [05-11.11.18] SEE YOU SPACE COWBOY…

We all know anime. I’m not saying that everyone likes it ( actually I’m not some big fan of it either, I’ve seen just some most popular), but come on, are there people  who were born in the 90’s and never heard of Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon or Captain Tsubasa?

When I was younger,  anime used to be quite popular in Poland. There were some really good pieces of art like Miyazaki movies ( my all-time favorite Princess Mononoke, love it) or the Death Note series. There were some extra popular series ( but not so good in my opinion) like Naruto or Bleach. There was also one anime that I think most of you never heard of and that’s such a shame. Let me introduce you to Cowboy Bebop.

So, Cowboy Bebop is an sci-fi anime tv series from 1998 that tells you a story of bounty hunters Spike and Jet that travel through the universe. The story is quite interesting because the mentioned show does not have one main story, it’s made from mini stories - every episode shows different actions - but characters are always the same and in the end we have something that can be called some common end, but I will not say more because I do not want to spoiler it. Now you may say „Ok, nice. So how is it actually different from others anime?”. My answer is: this show has  some kind of magic in it.

First of all Cowboy Bebop has really great and old school drawing line which can be also seen in other anime made by same creators ( e.g. Samurai Champloo or Black Lagoon. Btw I recommend those two anime to you if you were to give a try to Cowboy Bebop and you thought that it was cool, then you will probably also like those two). It’s hard to say why I think it looks beautiful. It’s really personal stuff but it’s really nice to see drawings like that when we compare it to current CGI animations.

The second reason why I recommend Cowboy Bebop to you is a fact that it’s one of the most loved anime even in a community that does not watch anime. When I was writing this text, CB was ranked 40th at Filmweb. So, If you really do not like Japan and its type of animation, you may still really enjoy Cowboy Bebop.

The third thing I would like to mention is its unique style. The convention of the nonlinear story is not very popular in anime, I would say that it’s rather more popular in cheap tv shows, but watch out - in Cowboy Bebop we do not get other cheap tv series that was supposed to fill your time after work ;)
For me this show has everything a good show should have. Some people probably heard of it, some didn’t. For me,  it’s one of the biggest classics and probably the best anime ever. If you don’t get why I named this article like this, you should probably watch the first episode and thank me later.

Questions for today:

  1. Have you watched Cowboy Bebop? Do you like it as much as I do?
  2. Do you have some kind of masterpiece (a game, a book or  a tv series, whatever) that you totally love and it’s not that popular? If yes, could you share it with us?
  3. What’s your favorite animated tv show (it doesn’t have to be anime)?

1. Yes, I've watched Cowboy Bebop and I also consider it one of the best animated series ever. As a matter of fact, today I am planning on re-watching the Cowboy Bebop movie - Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door, just because yesterday was Halloween and the events in the movie are set during this time period. If you haven't watched it already, I highly recommend it.

2. Yes, there is one show that I love and I don't think it's that popular. It's a live stream show called Critical Role. Critical Role is a show where a bunch of nerdy voice actors get together and play D&D. It is quite time consuming (every episode is approximately 3-4 hours long), but once you start watching it and get to know every player and their characters, it is hard to stop.

3. My favorite animated tv show would probably be Over the Garden Wall. It's about two brothers traveling through the strange forest called the Unknown and trying to find their way home, but it is also so much more than that. I recommend trying it for yourself.
Great to hear that you've also enjoyed Cowboy Bebop. I've seen movie, but I have not seen two tv shows that you recommend but I guess I will check it out - if you like CB you probably can't have bad tase :P

I've watched it and it is one of my favorite anime series. I remember that I've found it that title, when I was looking for something similar to "Firefly". As they say, I was looking for copper and I've found gold.

There is a lot of things that not very popular among my friends, but the one I want to share is Warhammer 40000 books. Warhammer 40000 is a grim and dark universe of the far future where the war is eternal. It's a huge universe with hundreds of characters, events and locations. I highly recommend it to those who are into adventure sci-fi to have a look at it. Probably the best start would be the book series called "The Horus Heresy".

My favorite animated show so far is "Avatar: The Last Airbender". I'm sure, you've heard about it even if you didn't watch it. I really like the escalation of the story through the series, how it becomes more grown up, so to say, more serious. The characters are well-written, as well as the plot. Try it, if you haven't done yet, and when you finish it, try also "The Legend of Korra".

I've never heard of it, I'm not a fan of anime, though I did watch some on Jetix when I was little. This is a very popular series, I'm a fan of Resident Evil. I always liked blood, monsters, zombies, weapons )
I Read a couple of books, beat all the games, watched all the movies, and 3 anime Resident Evil Degeneration,Damnation,Vendetta.
Recently watching the anime Castlevania how did you know I love all the "meat" of it is Gothic, bloody.Just do not think that I'm a maniac))
Resident evil is a masterpiece indeed. Although, I cannot physically watch anime, and, thus, admire some of the good series, but the games -- those were the things that I enjoyed and loved. And Resident Evil is one of those series that shows all other games of it's kind "That is how you do it!"

By the way, if you enjoy Castlevaina, I strongly recommend Devil my Cry. As I said, haven't watched a series of it, only played games, but both are iconic. For a reason.
I have never participated in a war "Anime is trash -- anime is love". I have always been completely neutral to it, never watched it, and never had anything against it. Until some friends of mine (some really big otaku) convinced me to watch some Naruto. And after watching first ten of fifteen minuter I realized something. For some reason I have a strong arguence with this style of drawing, and all those images are simply disturbing. Seriously, I do not know, why. I have tried watching some series with different drawing style, other than one in Naruto, like Death Note, or the one presented here in the article. And the result was the same -- the picture is just moving so abruptly, the frames are so fast that my eyes are basically water. Like, I could not watch a minute straightforward without scratching eyes and blinking rapidly. I genuenley have no idea about what is going on, but one thing I know for sure -- that I just simply physically unable to watch anime. I have tried to Google it, but never managed to find any reasonable explanation. Has anyone else experienced a similar thing?

To tell the truth, I have never watched Cowboy Bebop and I'm not a big fan of anime.
My favorite series, which I consider as masterpiece is The Wire. This series was once popular in the USA. It tells about drug gangs and a group of policemen trying to work out the way gang leaders work.
When it comes to animated series, Futarama is my favorite.
I've heard from a lot of people that Avatar is masterpiece, but unfortunately I haven't seen it. It was probably because judging only by the visual look of Avatar it may look like cartoon for kids, but I guess someday I will watch it thought. Especially now it's good reason for it as it is available on Polish Netflix.
Ok maybe I'm super nerd or something but how can someone not know Resident Evilm Castelvania or Devil may Cry ;)? Also great game to recommend is Bloodbourne on PS4, true masterpiece. It's "Souls-like" game made in Lovecraft-like world. Cheers!
Wow, that's sad to hear. I really don't know why it's as it is. Maybe someone here had similar experiences?
I also really like Futurama, way better than Simpsons IMO. Recently Netflix has released show called "Disenchantment" made by creators of shows recently mentioned, but it's not really good, but you may check it out if you want.

I have watched this anime and enjoyed it. I like to watch anime, because the author can show content that is impossible to film, or it would cost enormous amount of money to do. Also one series takes only about 20 minutes which is really small amount of time. The best game I have ever played in my life was Warcraft 3 Reign of Chaos, but I think everyone have played it and I am glad that Blizzard announced remake of this game with better graphics, so all fans will be able to play this masterpiece once again. From anime recently I have watched Castlevania from Netflix and I really liked and think it is worth watching. From old unpopular anime I remember old but good one called "Gurren Lagann". I remember how I have been waiting each week for a new episode of this anime.

I have not seen this animation yet.I think it's an interesting animation.
One of my favorite animations in the past was Rocko's Modern Lafe.
In my opinion, some of the animations are aimed at expressing social problems through the audience, for example, Big Mouth animation on taboo issues in the community, from the perspective of children and the artwork faced by their families, is very interesting and fascinating.
So I guess I will check out Gurren Lagann, because you are not the first first to recommend it to me. Same with Netflix's Castelvania.
I couldn't enjoy Big Mouth, but I'm huge fan of Rick and Morty ( how could I not be ;)? ) and BoJack Horseman. Bojack is actually really interesting show, because it's not another funny animated show, creators of it rather want to make it really sad and depressing, which is cool I guess. Check it out, if you have not watch it.
No, I have never watched Cowboy Bebop although I like watching anime. I have seen opinions that it is great show, but to be honest I have never had drive to watch it. Maybe it is because I actually didn’t watch anime when I was a child, so I don’t have any nostalgic feelings towards old school anime series. I don’t like either when there is too much CGI used in the series, but I think that many modern anime have beautiful graphics and gripping plot.
I am not sure if I love something which isn’t popular. The only thing which comes to my mind is Crysis 1. This isn’t truly unpopular game of course, but as I know a lot of people were complaining that is game is good only because of graphics, that plot was silly etc. But I think is extremely enjoyable it has beautiful graphics, awesome gameplay, amazing physics and quite interesting plot which leads player through many very different environments.
It is hard for me to answer which anime is my favourite, because there is a lot of them which I find outstanding. For example Owari no Seraph, modern anime from 2015 about post-apocalyptic word ruled by vampires.
So if you are anime fan you should totally check out Cowboy Bebop, you'll love it. I haven't played game you've recommended, same with anime you are talking about so I guess I have to check it out ;)
Have you watched Cowboy Bebop? Do you like it as much as I do?
No I have never watched Cowboy Bebop.
Do you have some kind of masterpiece (a game, a book or a tv series, whatever) that you totally love and it’s not that popular? If yes, could you share it with us?
I think Eragon (and whole connected book series) written by Christopher Paolini is some kind of underestimated masterpiece. I've read all of them, and I highly recommend each of them.
What’s your favorite animated tv show (it doesn’t have to be anime)?
I think my favorite one is Rick and Morty.
I have watched Cowboy Bebop and i like it really much, it is a perfect mix of a western and sci-fi spiced up by some of a more eastern point of view on it. I am more of a game nerd when it comes to modern art and entertainment, and as a masterpiece i always speak about Space Rangers game, which is actually thematically pretty much is like a Cowboy Bebop. For a tv show i really enjoy something from my childhood a cartoon "Samurai Jack", it had its last season made pretty recently and i think that even if this cartoon is a little childish and sometimes silly it is nonetheless one of the best cartoons ever made.

No, I was never interested in anime cartoons. I recently saw an excerpt from the Naruto series (my younger brother watches it), and therefore did not understand anything, because you need to start looking first to understand the meaning.
I have a game that I often play on weekends with friends, but this game is not a little-known-Munchkin. I like the fact that each game is not similar to the previous one, although I would like to change the game series already.
To my regret, I have not watched TV for more than 4 years. Even when I find myself in a place where there is a TV, most likely I will not notice it. But when I was younger, I liked the Jetix channel.

I have never watched Cowboy Bebop but I heard that’s pretty good anime and I want to watch it in the near future.

For me, a masterpiece is a survival horror video game called “Deadly Premonition”. “Set in the fictional, rural American town of Greenvale, Washington, the story follows FBI Special Agent Francis York Morgan as he investigates the murder of an eighteen-year-old woman, which bears similarities to a series of murders across the country.”. The game shares strong similarities with Twin Peaks and is really weird but I love it.

My favourite animated show is probably Rick and Morty. I'm sure that everybody heard about it this show.
1. Yes but I have only seen 2 or 3 episodes. I didn’t liked it that much. Drawings were cool but I felt like the whole thing is just excuse for typical anime shootings or fights.
2. I don’t think that I know anything unpopular that can be called masterpiece. Maybe some may not know Dune book series. I think the world created there is amazing
3. South park and Rick and Morty at the same place.
Unknown said…
Unfortunately, I have never watched it and I am not interested in the anime.
I love movies, series, which happen hundreds of years before us, I love vikings and a game of throne, I fell in love with these series, I love such a course of action, castles, sword fights. As for the animated series, the only one I watched were the pokemons and I remember them very well. :)
I have never watch this anime. I heard about it a few times but never was interested in it but maybe one day I will decide to watch it.
I saw a great Finnish movie at Warsaw International Film Festival a few weeks ago-"Heavy Trip", comedy about Finnish metal band (Symphonic post apocalyptic reindeer-grinding-Christ-abusing extreme war pagan Fennoscandian metal) from small village who wants to play a concert on Norwegian metal festival. A "stupid" kind of movie but the film even won an Audience Award. Not very popular because it's really hard to find this movie but I recommend it.
Rick and Morty is a great animated series. And I enjoyed Great Teacher Onizuka.
I've never seen anime cartoons so far so unfortunately I'm not able to answer this question.
It is quite difficult for me to answer the second question. I've been thinking some time and still I did't remember any masterpiece which was not popular. I think the reason why I chose to read a book or play a game is just because everybody was talking about. But I just recalled this game Space Rages (1,2) which I was admiring while I was in the school. Still I know no one who played it. It was cool thou.
Right now I don'h have a show which I'm exited about, but I do like to watch American dad or Family guy.

I haven’t watched Cowboy Bepop. Well, I never watched any anime, never liked it but never hated it as well, I’m completely neutral.
I’m in love with The Phantom of The Opera film, the one from year 2004. This film is perfect for me, and I would love to go to the opera when The Phantom of The Opera is played.
I think I don’t have any. I don’t really like TV shows neither, I prefer good films.
1. I have never watched Cowboy Bepop - I am not a fan of anime. I was crazy about Dragon Ball when I was young, but any other anime didn't interested mi later.
2. I'm afraid not - rather all series which I loved were popular
3. Rick & Morty !!!!!! Animated tv series for adults - I really recommend it
Rick and Morty, nice :) I've read Eragon and I could not enjoyed it. In my opinion this book was hit only because Christopher was 15 years old while he was releasing it.
Same here, I was also very happy when newest season of Samurai Jack has been released. Now it has some ending :P
I think most of us does not watch tv, but it doesn't mean we don't watch any show or movie. You have plenty streaming platforms like Netflix or HBO GO where you can watch a lot of things.
Also big fan of Rick and Morty here. I truly recommend you to watch Cowboy Bebop, even if you are not an anime fan. Actually I'm not big fan of anime, so that may be some incentive for people who are afraid of it.
I've seen all South Park episodes and I love that show, but most recent ones seasons are quite crap thought. Maybe you should give Cowboy Bebop a second chance someday?
Come on, I don't believe you. So you are telling me that you have not watched any animated tv show when you were younger?
Wow, thanks for this recommendations. Quite hipster I would say. When it comes to GTO I've read it when I was younger and I think that I will watch tv series someday.
Unknown said…
I haven't watched Cowboy Bebop, which is a bit surprising considering that I've watched a decent amount of anime. I've always considered watching it, but somehow never got around to doing it. It's a bit of a shame, really. I really should watch it someday.

As for great things that are not very popular, I personally think that Captain Claw is an underrated masterpiece. It's a rather old platforming game that isn't very well known, but I think it's quite well made. The story isn't anything special, but is enjoyable to follow, and the soundtrack is quite enjoyable as well. However, by far the best part about the game is the difficult platforming. The game takes quite a bit of skill to complete.

As for my favorite tv show, it would propably be Steins;Gate. It's an anime in which time travel is central to the plot, and what I love about it is that it manages to establish time travel rules that actually make sense and are at least somewhat grounded in reality, and then it sticks to them without any major plot holes. The characters and story in general are great as well. I can safely recommend it to any anime fan, and it is also a fairly good introductory anime for people who haven't had much experience with anime before.
I couldn't get into Family Guy or American dad, mostly because I do not like creator of those two shows. Still, thanks for opinion.
Hmmm, I'm also big fan of movies, but recently there are not many good ones to see. Don't know why but in 2018 there are more good tv shows than movies, unless you are fan of yet another Marvel movie.
Rick and Morty masterrace!
Captain Claw was quite popular in Poland in my (our?) days, so I know it. When it comes to Steins;Gate - totally love it. My second favourite anime.

I've watched Cowboy Bebop but I heard about it and many people told me to watch it. So maybe I will do it.
Ohh, I have a lot of masterpieces for example: Doctor Who is one of them. This is time traveling old series and this is excellent. The second is of course Braking Bad with very good actors and story. Every frame from this series is awesome. The last series is Utopia this is old series and unfortunately they make just 2 seasons. Like Braking Bad or little beater every frame or scene is like some art. Every next episode we don’t know anything but this is very good series. If you don’t watch it, you should.
Actually I'm not a very big fan of Breaking Bad, I think that it's to much overhyped, but I'm not saying it's bad. I just would not call it 10/10.
We already had some conversations about this topic but here we go again. Ive never seen Space Cowboyas it's not my type of anime i like. I just can't stand this theme, sorry. On the other hand i never liked si-fi but the one masterpiece that i swollowed in like 2 days was Code Geass. I was shoked how good it was and how much i have no idea what to do with my life if i can't watch any new episode. So yeah that was my favourite animated tv series.
Unknown said…
Have you watched Cowboy Bebop? Do you like it as much as I do?
1. I have never watched this so none from my side.
Do you have some kind of masterpiece (a game, a book or a tv series, whatever) that you
totally love and it’s not that popular? If yes, could you share it with us?
2. Yea, there are a lot of them: from games nostalgia comes to Diablo 2, but also I consider masterpieces like Nier Automata, the world ends with you, dark souls series and lot of other series. When it comes to manga/anime (prefer manga) there are few which are popular but in a good way and are special for me due to a unique story, characters and their appearance. Those are: Berserk, JoJo's bizarre adventure (all parts), Neon genesis evangelion, mononoke (not princess!!!!!!!) and a feeeeew more.
Also music is very important for me and I found japanese bands favourite, for example Dir en Grey is best for me (on the 12th of October they gave a great show in Poland!)
What’s your favorite animated tv show (it doesn’t have to be anime)?
btw. Cowboy Beeboop is very popular :D
3. as above.
Unknown said…
1. Yes. Yes, I am.
It is one of the best of it’s kind.
2. Danganronpa game series. It is a visual novel about trapped students where the one who can leave from the trapped place after killing someone. Each game after first one subverting player’s expectation. So they rarely feel repetitive.
3. Steins;Gate, Avatar: The Legend of Aang.
I have never watched Cowboy Bebop, but I will definitely give it a shoot.
Talking about some kind of masterpiece, I think, "How to Make It in America" by HBO is great series but not so popular in a wide audience. I love TV shows and movies about New York, but this one is different from them. This series is not about the elite of Manhattan, but about two guys who create their own brand of clothing. Of course, not without the help of friends, friends of friends, charm and perseverance. Besides all this, they enjoy life in New York and don’t lose time in vain. Despite the fact that the duration of one series - 25 minutes. The show seems very intense. So stretch the fun, it's worth it.
Most loved ones : Rick and Morty, South Park and Paradise PD. Dark humor and strong language with elaborate dialogues make them excellent.
I like watching good animations from time to time. I loved both Full Metal Alchemists, I watched Death Note, Darker than black and few more of japanese animations. And I tried "Cowboy Bebop". I actually tried to watch it twice, both time got bored by the story. I guess it's not really my type of storytelling.
I guess I can't feel the magic ;-)
I have only seen first season of Code Geass and it was really good. Only thing that I could not stand was the drawing - definitely not my cup of tea.
I'm not very big anime fan so I thought that Cowboy Bebop is not as popular as Naruto or Drago Ball, sorry :( By the way, Nier Automata is such an amazing game. Don't know why it wasn't big hit in Europe.
You are second person that recommends Avatar, so I guess I will add it to mine Netflix list.
Rick and Morty is 10/10 for me. South Park is probably my favourite adult animated tv show, despite fact that newest seasons are not so good and I think that they should cancel it. I've seen only two episodes of Paradise PD and I think that's not so good.
Sad to hear that. You've seen other two masterpieces thought, so not bad ;)
Unknown said…
Unfortunately, I've never heard of this series, but if I find time after graduation, I'm happy to devote my time to it. I try to come up with something unique so that nobody knows what I love about it. The series I love are very popular series from Netflix, so almost everyone who didn't watch it surely heard about them. When I was a child, even now it happens to me to watch Dragon Ball or Pokemon. They remind me of the beautiful times when I ran quickly from school to watch a new episode or I got up earlier to watch a replay, which I had seen the previous day anyway.
Unknown said…
No, I didn’t but you interested me to watch it.
I’ve some kind of masterpiece for me but it’s popular. It’s game The Wither 3: Wild hunt. For me it’s best game ever, CD Projekt RED (developers of Witcher) make great job: cool graphics, interesting quests, huge word, characters with interesting history etc.
My favorite animated TV show is Simpsons. I like it because creators of this serial had interesting sense of humor. Serial started in 1989 but still interesting, creators still have new ideas and they still not “dried up”.

No I didn't.

Do you have some kind of masterpiece (a game, a book or a tv series, whatever) that you totally love and it’s not that popular? If yes, could you share it with us?

I am afraid that I don't love anything that was not seen as popular by some. Maybe Battle Brothers, a PC game with wonderful art, music and atmosphere of low, dark fantasy? But it was still some kind of a hit game, so I guess it is kind of popular.

What’s your favorite animated tv show (it doesn’t have to be anime)?

Rick & Morty. Nothing better to have some laugh with friends and something to talk about. In general I don't watch tv shows at all.
Unknown said…
Unfortunately, I have never watched although I am a big fan of anime. Probably because the old line of this production rejected me. I am a big fan of many series, games, books. I never close to the unknown. But do I have something worth recommending? I think it would be too much to write. What is my favorite anime? I have a great fondness for Bleach, I like No game no life in all, most of the topek is also my favorite.

- No, I have not watched Cowboy Bebop, but I think it is time to change it. I do not like anime but I will give it a try. I like the idea that every episode tells a small story so you do not have to wait 300 episodes to see the culmination of the plot.

2. Do you have some kind of masterpiece (a game, a book or a tv series, whatever) that you totally love and it’s not that popular? If yes, could you share it with us? What’s your favourite animated tv show (it doesn’t have to be anime)?
- I love Bojack the Horsman. I love the idea that the main character is a loser who hates himself and does nothing with it, he tries to do something but always ends up in the place where he started. Also, I believe that everybody can find a character with whom he/she can identify.
I love everything in this show: music, style art, the fact that intro changes during the progress of the show and of course the voice acting. I recommend this show to everyone.

I must admit that I am not really into anime. I have never heard about Cowboy Bebop. I watched only one anime called "Darker than black". It was quite good so maybe it's time to give another series a try. :)

There are few movies that I could call a masterpiece. However, when it comes to sci-fi genre, it has to be "Moon". It's an awesome sci-fi drama starring Sam Rockwell. I think I watched it 3 times already. I just really like the whole idea behind it.

I can't recall any animated show that I watched and that would be worth mentioning. Overall I rather prefer to watch movies than TV series.

To be honest, I hate anime. I don't like it and understand people who are watching this cartoons for kids. Of course, I don't want to 'attack' you but seriously, it's amazing phenomenon for me.
It's very hard to answer second question because if something is not popular for me, can be something trendy for you. Something like anime, you can tell me about very popular movie and I will probably don't know about that.
I like crime novels. I love Jo Nesbo books with Harry Hole as main character. The best series for me. It's probably not little known book writer but if you never heard about it I would like to recommend it :)
Hmmmm, my favorite cartoon? I don't remember every one of my favorites animated shows but 'Reksio' is one of the best. Good times.

No, i haven't. I once tried, but I gave up after first episode. Why? Dunno, but I generally don't like science fiction.

"Do you have some kind of masterpiece (a game, a book or a tv series, whatever) that you totally love and it’s not that popular? If yes, could you share it with us?"
I'm huge fan of Trudi Canavan's and Peter V. Brett's literature, also I'm in love in manhua - Magician, The Breaker and Tower of a God are my favorite korean comics. But, the biggest masterpiece for me is Pokemon.

"What’s your favorite animated tv show (it doesn’t have to be anime)?"
Hmm... Pokemon, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Disenchantment and Avatar.
Unfortunately,
I'm not big fan of anime. I hate japanese sense of humour and character creation. But still I have some titles, which I really respect.
As you can see, I just love expanded, unique universes and lore.

For me it is definitely a hard technology and I wouldn't be able to decode this. But surely this is something that you can learn - I think so.

I never watched cowboy bebop, but I heard. I know many cool TV series that aren't popular - e.g. Line of duty. I love this series and I am happy that they are ordered another 2 seasons

It's hard to give me my favorite show ... when it comes to animated TV series, I love BoJack Horseman and Rick and Morty, not animated - mm hard to say - narcos example
I didn't watch Cowboy Bebop so I can't really speak about this topic. Well I have a masterpiece that I am totally crazy about, but it's hard to say it's not that popular because it is Game of Thrones. I really love that TV series and I have absolutely no idea what am I going to do with my life when the next last season will end next year. My definitely favorite animated TV show is Rick & Morty. Even though it's animated it might seem it's for kids, it's totally mature and cool scientific topics are shown there.

I've never heard of Cowboy Bebop, I'm not a big fan of anime, I don't like the way of presenting an action in it, athough I did watch some on Jetix or Disney XD when I was little boy, such as Naruto or Shaman King.
I have plenty of tv series or books to share -> As far as books series are concerned, Percy Jackson is my favourite. Good plot, a lot of action and plot twist, for a tenager it could be a perfect books to read in their spare time. I used to watch a lot of Netflix back in the days -> I think "lucifer" is my favourite tv series.
About animated tv series, I think I would go with Rick and Morty. It's fun for sure and not nessecerly for childrens ;)

Yeah, I've seen this anime. It's one of the best animated TV shows. There are no schoolboys that were chosen to save the world. There is no Evil that main characters should fight to. There are few crazy strangers, space nomads that trying to leave the demons of their past and don't look to the future. Day by day they just trying to stay alive in the space and maybe earn some money. No big goals, just simple quite realistic routine. I love it. And also I like great music in this TV show.

I have a lot of animated movies and TV shows that I really like, so I can't mark just one or two. But I remember another anime, that has the same style as Cowboy Bebop, that called Samurai Champloo. Maybe creators of these shows are the same.
