Week 11 [09.01-15.01] LEGO - one of the world’s most powerful brands

It is probably fair to assume that every reader of this article knows Lego. There is even a great chance that you’ve owned at least one of the Lego sets. Furthermore, according to the most recent Brand Finance’s research, Lego has been classified as the world’s second most powerful brand. There is no wonder people like it so much; Lego is truly awesome!

Let’s start off by reminding ourselves a little bit of history of Lego.
As some of you may know the Lego Group is a Danish family-owned company and its name comes from the Danish phrase leg godt, which means “play well”. The very first Lego bricks sets started to be manufactured in 1949 and they were called "Automatic Binding Bricks". Since then, more than 400 billion Lego bricks have been produced. Pretty impressive, don’t you think?

Today the Lego Group offers a large number of sets with a variety of themes, among which the most recognizable ones are Lego City, Lego Star Wars and Lego Technic. There are also themes like Lego Architecture which are targeted at adult fans of Lego or Lego Mindstorms designed for creating customizable and programmable robots.
I, personally, have always been a big fan of Lego Technic, because it gives you the ability to accurately recreate many mechanical systems. It is also worth noting that every year there is a flagship product in Lego’s Technic line. In 2016 the Lego Technic designers decided to recreate one of the most iconic cars, namely Porsche 911 GT3 RS. You can watch the video below to see the story behind this product. I can say that this is definitely an extraordinary set and there is an extraordinary price to pay for it too. After all, the Lego sets are and always were on the expensive side.

Don’t forget that Lego is not only about construction toys; it also has left its mark on the video game industry. There was a whole series of Lego video games - the very first one was named “Lego Fun to Build” and it was published in 1995. This year we shall see yet another long-awaited Lego video game. Wouldn’t it be cool to combine an open world known from Minecraft with Lego bricks? This is exactly what “Lego Worlds” game is all about. For me, it is a dream come true and I will definitely want to try this game out.
Watch the trailer below to see it for yourself.

Finally, there are places named Legoland. Legoland is a child-oriented Lego-themed theme park. I’ve been to Legoland Windsor, Berkshire in England, which is the largest Legoland park in the world in terms of area. While I was pretty impressed by what they call Miniland, my overall impression of this place was not so good. I suppose that I was just too old to take full advantage of all the included attractions, since my younger brother had a lot more fun there. If you’ve also been to Legoland, feel free to share your experience.

Did you play with Lego bricks as a child?
If so, can you remember what your very first Lego set was or which one was your favourite?
Do you agree that Lego toys are one of the best for child’s development?

I think everyone has heard of Lego brand, if not played it as a child. I have obviously played with Lego bricks and I loved it. I remember I used to play Lego bricks with my older cousines and my siblings so in reality we all would sit together and play around with different kind of sets and pieces. I also remember ''borrowing'' pieces and bricks from each other's sets but in reality we would mix them and not really return them afterwards.
:-D I think that Lego has not only enabled kids to use Lego bricks as toys but also as a tool to develop one's imagination and logic. Children could use the bricks as they wished, regardless of the idea which the producer has displayed, and therefore they could expand their sense of size, space, length, shape and so on.
In my opinion Lego has been and still is a great type of toy and learning tool for children. I haven't been following Lego's new offers, sets and characters throughout the years, however I definitely think they know what they are doing, and what they create is definitely useful and helpful to children.

Probably one of my favorite products of Lego is Mindstorm. It was really fun to create your own robot. The only big advantage was that in Mindstorm’s IDE instead of writing code you should drag and drop modules and it take a lot of time. Second favorite product for me would definitely be Lego Star Wars PC game. It’s one of the games which are fun to play with girls on gamepads.
I had only 1 Lego set in my childhood and it was Batman set. I loved it.
That’s an interesting question about child’s development. And I’m not really sure that it’ll make your kid smarter. Maybe it develops creativity in some way because you have to create stuff.

When I was child I played with Lego bricks. When I get my first set I was happy.
If so, can you remember what your very first Lego set was or which one was your favourite?
My first Lego set was Lego SYSTEM CITY. This set contains building blocks for the construction of a small town. Part of the kit include excavators, helicopters, buildings and workers.
Do you agree that Lego toys are one of the best for child’s development?
In my opinion Lego toys are one of the best for child’s development.
It develops when the imagination. If the sets are built with their parents also teaches cooperation.

I've always loved Lego. I still buy it and 'play' with it (I'm 25 and no, I do have a girlfriend ;P). I still have complete models from my childhood (some are 20 years old). I have lego mindstorms set which I used for example to build 4 speed automatic transmission (gear box) with clutch of my own design. Recently I've completed my Lego Technic giant bucket-wheel excavator consisting of over 3000 pieces.
Nice, I've also built one gearbox with Lego Technic bricks, but it was manual rather than automatic. Did make a video of your Lego gearbox? It would be great to see it in action :D
Exactly, a big advantage of Lego video games is that girls like to play them too, so there is always a much greater chance that you will find yourself a nice companion to play with ;D
I absolutely agree with what you've written about the Lego's positive impact on child's development. Lego bricks give so much freedom when it comes to building your own creations. It definitely boosts our creativity in architecture and design.

When I was a kid I haven't got lego's, by my friends had, so I could play tchem. I believe that bricks are great for kids - they develop imagination, spatial thinking, motor coordination. For littlest kids it help with a causal link.
Lego's are great for older kids, since 8 maybe. They are expensive, but they can connect tchem as they wish, so the only limit is their fantasion.

Haha :D nice
Aleksander, I'm as crazy about Lego as you. The same like you I love Lego Technic. Apart from the fact that I have a girlfriend (:p), the rest is the same. I still have complete models from my childhood in my parents' house. When I go there I like to "check" it. Then I mention my childhood :D.

My favourtie model is excavator. It's not so giant, but when I got it, it was one of the biggest model. I completed it when I was 5 or 6. Now, I know that Lego improved my skills and "shaped" me in some way (e.g. in terms of patience and precision).

I don't have any Mindstorms set, but I'm not sure if it is as interesting as Technic. Probably because of the fact that I don't have any. If I could, I would buy Mercedes-Benz truck with hydraulic crane. It's probably the biggest set now. It's unbelievable it is reflected very precisely (according to real one Mercedes-Benz model)

I think that Lego is a "must have" classic toy, I liked it a lot when I was a kid but now it's not really interesting since you just building what's already shown on the box cover, I find it boring. I think that there're more interesting toys for child development, for example Little Bits where you can create different robots and devices by combining parts.

To be honest lego is the best "toy" which I have ever had. Of course, I was playing with Lego as I child. Moreover I still love playing with it now. It develops many useful abilities:
- provides tools that develop lateral thinking in a fun environment
- teaches kids to think in three dimensions
- improves literacy as kids work with instructions
- develops problem-solving, organization, and planning by construction
- improves creativity
- enhances communication and critical thinking
- boosts kids motor development

Of course that I have played Lego as a child. Unfourtunately I don't remember what was my favourite set or set which I have always wanted to have.
In my opinionLego is great for children, because they can become more creative. Of course Lego can also be dangerous because of tiny elements which can be easily swallowed by small children.
"you just building what's already shown on the box cover" - this is not true. I mean, you can follow the instructions included in the set, but you don't have to and that is the whole point. You can use your imagination to build anything you like.
Yeah, that's why they always specify the age range on the box.
I absolutely agree with you here.

I had Lego when I was a child and still I like them. It's a pity that now Lego are very expensive. I like the series of lego technic because you can control the built construction. This is a series which shows that even Lego bricks can develop with the technology. I think it's toy for everyone! (Maybe only not for really small children beacuse they take everything into his mouth and the blocks are small so they could be dangerous.)

When I was a child I remember that Lego was my favourite toy! It was beautiful time when I constructed with my sister imaginary buildings. I have never had any sets of Lego, it has always been a mix of many collections. I believe Lego toys are one of the best toys for child’s development! In my opinion it develops many useful abilities like: imagination, creativity, cooperation, planning and many others.
I loved Lego. Building nice things out of small blocks was always very satisfying for me when I was a child - nowadays I do not actively do that anymore, but I'm more than sure that I'll return to Lego once again after I become father :). It's one of those things that always bring much joy, and I'm very happy that I was given a chance to have one in my childhood.

I have no idea what it was though, it was too long ago to remember.
Lego was the best thing to play in my childhood, in my opinion. It gives you a 'power' to create your own world with your own rules and one thing which hold you donw was your imagination. I had a lot of Lego's sets, I had my favourite and this ones, after build, was in one piece for very long time.
I played a lot with lego during elementary school times. I was and still am a big fan of star wars so star wars themed lego was my favourite. I also really liked to build big bases using all lego pieces that I had.

Lego! That's the best toy ever in my childhood :). In my opinion it's one of the best child's developement because of many parts that you can use to build anything you want. I remember that I had a football table set and it was my favourite.

Personally I love the Lego bricks. I have two big boxes full of bricks from childhood in the basement. I will never give them away. They are waiting for my own children. Recently when I was sick and I couldn't leave home I played with LEGO. Sometimes I buy a set because I like to stack them. I played the game with lego and it is very cool game not only for children. It's good that they made the game with open lego world. I'll definitely try it. I have always believed that lego develops the imagination of children. I think this is the best toy.

I'm weaned on Lego :) I was in Legoland 3 or 4 times. I think Lego is one of the most valuable toy for kids. When you building something with Lego bricks you must be organized, disciplined and persistent. Lego gives you amazing fun. My favourite set was pirate's ship. It was amazing.

When I was a child, it was hard to find and buy Lego. That's why I was playing with the simple plastic bricks. But I loved it so much. I could spend the whole day building a castle. I was happy, parents were happy - the child is sitting in her room in a complete silence. If in my childhood I had Lego bricks, I would be even happier. Maybe one day I will go and buy myself a set:)
Buy one and I'm sure you won't regret that :D I think that it is fun to play with Lego at any age.

I used to play with lego a lot in my childhood. I can't remember my first lego set, that's shame :) Lego Technic line was absolutely the best, you can literally build everything with it. Of course, i built my own gearbox too, apart from it i've specalized in constructing lego guns, and i still have the best one on my shelf (i gave my lego collection to my cousin thought). Lego enchants your spatial intelligence a lot, so giving lego sets to childs could possibly produce new engineers in the future.
Pirates theme was awesome! It is a pity that this theme has been discontinued by Lego.
Yeah, I'm sure they could have lowered the price a little bit, but due to the growing sales it is unlikely to happen. Unfortunately.

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...
