Week 8 (30.11 - 6.12) Breakfast Markets

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, unfortunately not everyone pays enough attention to it. On working days, many people are in such a hurry that they simply skip breakfast or grab something quick to go. It’s not the nicest way to start a day .

Breakfasts do not have to be a boring necessity. Living in the city, where everyone is always in a hurry it’s nice to have a moment to slow down and enjoy some good food. If you like discovering new foods, making friends and are a fan of breakfasts I would strongly recommend that you visit one of the Breakfast Markets that are held on the weekends.

In Warsaw there are two main sites where you can join the breakfast community. In the winter, on Saturdays it is held in Żoliborz, in Gimnazjum nr 55. On Sundays you can make your way to Mokotów, to Jan Kochanowski’s High School. There, from 10am to 4 pm you can find a variety of products, from homemade jams to fresh vegetables and kitchen utensils. You can have a chance and talk with the vendors, find out everything about offered products. When you get tired, there are of course stands with delicious food. This definitely will not be another boring scrambled eggs breakfast. Local produce guarantee tasty dishes for everyone – meat lovers, vegans, fans of traditional Polish cuisine or those looking for something more exotic. It really is a nice way to start you day.

The same organization runs  weekly events in Poznań. Here is a short video to show you how nice it looks in the summer:

Another Breakfast Market worth visiting is the Berlin Breakfast Market in Markthalle Neun. It is held every 3rd Sunday of the month and available food and the atmosphere are so nice that I found it to be described in a couple of Berlin tour guides. Similarly to the Polish events, you can both enjoy the food and do some shopping, since some stands offer a big variety of food related accessories.

Have you been to any events like this? How did you like it?

I was once at a Breakfast Market at Mokotów in Warsaw, but unfortunately It isn't "my cup of tea." :( There was more food to eat for lunch. Whenever I eat breakfast outside the home such as at restaurants, I'm disappointed, so at the end I resigned of this. I eat quite a lot for breakfast and in the restaurants I'm never able to eat completely. In effect, I quickly hungry again. For me breakfast is really the most important meal of the day, which I eat quietly and if I eat a bad breakfast I have a bad day! ;P You can see what I eat for breakfast on my blog, because I put there some time ago several recipes:) Enjoy! http://dzielnakuchnia.blogspot.com/search/label/śniadanie
I have never heard about breakfast markets, but it seems that they are cool events. I only heard about dinner in Paris that everyone could join. Everyone had to wear white clothes. Also many restaurants offer big tables instead of small one, that you have to share with strangers and eat together. Not always it works, because obviously everyone like privacy. But it is worth trying at least once in life. Personally I prefer brunches or breakfast buffets in restaurants. You pay once for instance 20 zł and you eat as much as you want. I guess that it differentiate from breakfast markets in menus. Here you have only menu from one restaurants and in breakfast markets you have variety of manufactures that offer their’s products.

Your article convinced me to try attending breakfast market. It would be also interesting to participate in breakfast market abroad.

I realy like this kind of topics as im a fan of food :)
I've never visited the breakfast market so it's hard for me to speak about it. However i see the benefit that as it's happaning during the weekend many people can benefit from it.
During the week, few people could get such a breakfast or drink a cup of coffee for breakfast on the way to work or school. But I think this is an interesting way to spend free mornings over the weekend. You can learn about new ways of preparing food and how to eat healthy.
I think that soon I will visit one of those market and try new kind of breakfest.

The problem is not the lack of time but the fact that...I hate eating breakfast right after I get up. I don't get all the "the most important meal" or "you'll get fat if you don't eat breakfast because "metabolism"...". I haven't eaten breakfast since I was 13 (my mother made me eat at least a bite when I was younger) and I'm totally fine. My perfect breakfast starts 2-2,5 hours after I get up because that's the time when I get hungry so I often make my breakfast earlier and eat it at school/work or at home. My mother does the same thing. I love slowly getting ready in the morning and eating my breakfast late, I just couldn't make myself eat just for the sake of eating - where's the pleasure in that?

I think that breakfast markets are interesting and seem to be quite enjoyable but I'm not sure it would be my thing. I'm quite a picky eater and most people in Poland eat heavier breakfasts then I do. At any markets in Warsaw I mostly see lard, ham and sausages and can't really bear those.

I looked through your blog and found some really cool recipes. Thanks for sharing, I'll make sure to try them out someday instead of my usual breakfast . Since you like your breakfasts calm and at home, maybe you could give those markets a try again but looking at them as a lunch opportunity? :) Also, there are of other food markets organized through Warsaw. I usually go to Dom Braci Jabłkowskich or to Znajomi Znajomych.

I'm glad that you liked this topic :)
During the weekends there are a lot of food events to choose from. Also during normal working days there are some breakfast events, but usually they are organized by one single restaurant. For example in Aioli, if you buy a coffee you can get a nice full breakfast for 1zl :)

I'm 100% with you on eating my breakfasts a bit later, when I get to work. What's good about those markets is that you have to get there in order to eat, so it will not be right after you get up :)
Also, from what I have seen so far, the offered food is not only sausages. There are a lot of lighter options, very often vegan or gluten-free if that's what you like :)

Breakfast market is a wonderful idea. Most people eat the same breakfast a few times a week. There you can find a lot of inspiring recipes for making delicious breakfast.
Personally I love original ideas especially at breakfast. it's very important to have a good start of the day.

In Europe this phenomenon is also very popular. I would recommend during your visit in Barcelona to see magical place that is the Boqueria Market (here more info: http://www.boqueria.info/index.php?lang=en). This is a large street market where you can buy both - breakfast and home product. In Warsaw I like a lot Bio Bazar near the traffic circle ONZ. It's a place where we can try something and take it to home in larger quantities :)

Great subject with a idea gaining popularity recently! Unfortunately my all breakfasts look the same for ages :) i feel like i'am bit to lazy person to prepare something amazing just for my self. All the mornings are very fast as i'am almost always late, but this article will make me more courious about that kind of event and i'll look forword to tak part in one of them in the spring next year because i never took part in any kind of that!

I heard about the Boqueria Market and it's on my to see list. Thanks for telling me about Bio Bazar, i'll make sure to check it out :)

Luckily, you don't have to wait until the spring. In autumn and winter the markets are held indoors. Maybe it's not as nice as sitting on the grass with your meal but you can still enjoy the breakfast community :)

I have heard about it and some time ago I have come by once place like that, but I was in a hurry :/ Although I saw many good thing and ideas.
I think it is great idea. I had several attempts to interesting, tasty and unusual breakfast. It was really tasty but my laziness and haste were stronger. Now I eat something fast for a breakFAST and go out.

I have a similar situation to what Paulina mentioned. I often leave my house without a breakfast, but not because of the rush (I usually have more than enough time), but because I simply don't feel like eating and I see no reason to force myself.

I've never been to a breakfast market, but I heard about them - my brother visits such events from time to time. Sounds like a great idea and I hope I'll have a chance to participate someday.

I have never heard about such markets. I think it is a very interesting idea, especially for people whose breakfast is the same from one day to the next. It is a great opportunity to try something new and to find other easy breakfast for yourself.
So, I would like to participate in such events one-day.
Thank you for this very interesting article. I’ve heard a lot of good things about breakfast markets that are held in Warsaw but I have never visited any of them – maybe because I live in the suburbs and it is not very easy for me to get there.
I love breakfasts and I agree completely that they are the most important meal of the day. My mother has a cup of coffee for breakfast and eats something around 12 o’clock and I will never understand it. The same thing goes for eating trash food for the first meal of the day – how are you supposed to have a good start when you eat a Snickers for breakfast?!

I highly recommend the new Jamie Oliver cookbook called “Superfood”. Jamie works with a lot of doctors and nutritionists to design healthy and well balanced meal ideas. When he was creating this book he visited a lot of places with the longest life-span and consulted many people about what and how they eat and how they stay healthy. Each chapter is a different meal – breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks etc. Breakfast is my favourite chapter – it contains a lot of really cool ideas and the best thing is that the majority are for some very fast things or something that you can prepare in advance (for example a protein oatmeal mix or fruit pudding cups).

What is the best thing that you’ve had at a Breakfast Market?
I think that breakfast markets are different than the usual markets with typical Polish food (speaking of lard - yesterday I made a vegan substitute from white beans, onion and apple; it has the same consistency but is not greasy or eww). The vendors are often some organic shops, ladies with home-made jams or bread etc. I think that you would like it.

I can't start my day without a good breakfast. There are two exceptions from this rule - one is when I am sick, the other is when I'm invited to my friends for a festive breakfast and this happens from time to time:) I love it, it is a far better idea than stuffing yourself late in the evening.

When i wake up at 13 o'clock i don't eat breakfast. So for me this kind of meal can disappear. I read that it's the most important "food time", but i know that dinner is the best, after all it's my breakfast :)
Unknown said…
I've never been on such an event. I'd rather not intend to be in it because I prefer eating breakfast at home. Peacefully at my own pace make breakfast, sit on my couch and watching TV and enjoy the food. I prefer to eat alone than to hear around a other people.
Julia Osiak said…
You sound like brunch person! Brunches are fun! You should try going out with friends for a brunch someday :)

You made me hungry. The only problem with those breakfast markets is that they are weekends only. On weekend I have no problem with spending some time in kitchen to prepare something tasty, something what needs a bit more time then usual sandwich or scrambled eggs. But nod during the week day. Then every minute counts, every moment is precious when you hurry to work. You can't take any time from your daily regime to make something better then usual. You just can't. And because of that I would love to go to some breakfast market, especially if it would be nearby mo route to work.

Thank you, I'll take a look at his book, I really like most of his recipes.
At breakfast Markets I usually go for fresh produce of diary with an oriental twist if I can find something like that. I can't name one thing that I liked the most.

The vision of getting out of bed early just to go for breakfast somewhere out there is really frightening. besides i'm doing the best breakfasts in the world, so why should I look for probably worse alternatives? :P

I attended breakfast markets multiple times. One of the Warsaw markets runs quire near to me. It's a great way to experience and taste new and sometimes exotic cuisines. The atmoshpere there is always great and friendly, maybee save for the kids - those are as annoying as you could expect. People bring their cute small dogs, there's usually even a dog food stand there.
I think it's a very positive way to start a day and generally spend your time on the weekend
Excellent idea, people don’t pay attention how important is to eat breakfast. If they try to eat something out of home, they rather choose very bad quality meals like „fastfood” etc. It’s good way to promote this kind of event. I have not been in „Breakfast Market” yet, but i will explore this places certainly. The pictures with food looks very interesting.

I've never heard of those markets before and I have to admit it sounds like something that could be really enjoyable for me personally. I try to avoid eating at home and I prefer eating outdoors - this seems like a cheaper and also quite interesting alternative.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
