Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Ever wanted to be a mermaid(or meet one)?

Do mermaids exist? You’ll probably say “no” without a moment of hesitation, but please stay a while and look at these lovely ladies and their prey:

Let me introduce Finfolk Productions, a company that can literally make a dream come true. They sell highly realistic, fully swimmable, silicone mermaid tails. Using best quality products from the special effects market they offer entirely custom tails both in fit and design.

The company is owned by twin artists Abby and Bryn Roberts who have introduced a new level in the field of tails for professional mermaids.

Here you can see a little sneak peek from their workshop:

The tails can be used for underwater performance, cinematic/theatrical costuming, parties, events, or even bathtub lounging.

On the video you can check out how the tails behave underwater. With a little practice you can learn how to swim in it (gracefully!) and impress… whoever you want to impress. I am sure it can astonish your boyfriend or mother as well as random tourists on the shore of the Baltic Sea!

Thanks to Finfolk Productions you can meet mermaids all around the world: in US, Germany or even Singapore. In some countries there are swimming schools for young mermaids – they have a great time playing with friends and at the same time they do a high-intensity training (swimming in the tail requires skill!).

The prices for basic silicon tails start with $3000, but the most beautiful sets can cost even more than $5000.

It is worth mentioning that Finfolk productions also supports and runs projects that raise awareness of ocean conservation (last one took place on the shores of Hawaii).

Here are photos of some mermaids you can find around the world:

Not to leave anyone dissatisfied, there are also male mermaids out there. Like this one:

What do you think about the idea of swimmable mermaid tails?

Have you ever seen a person wearing one?

Would you buy a mermaid tail for yourself (or for someone else)?

They need to advertise themselves somehow, don't they?

Those suits are very pretty, from the distance they look like masterpiece. If I had lot of money to throw away I would consider buying one out of curiosity. I've never seen anyone wearing them but if it looks as good as in the pictures I can image one could prank somebody using this suit.

I think this is great idea! I have to buy this tails for me and my boyfriend.
It would be fantastic to use it in the sea or bedroom. And they support wild sea life, how kind.
I'm not sure but when I was at Mazury lakes last year I have seen one.
Or maybe it was just a carp.. I'm not sure. As I said I would love to have one of these.

Finaly. I was worrying that I'll never get chance to wear a male mermaid swim suit.
Meet You at the swimming pool.

The tails look pretty cool and they are really nicely done (I have never seen ones that are so nice) but I don't think I would be interested in wearing one. I think that it's a cool thing for a photo shot/a movie/or just to have fun for 5 minutes (I find them to be a cool, artistic project) but I would much rather have my legs "free" underwater. I love swimming and water, I like almost every water sport and I can spend ages in the bathtub ;). However I think a tail could become uncomfortable after some time (and honestly dolphin kick isn't my favorite style of swimming) and I just enjoy swimming and water too much to cumber myself in the pool or sea(I like to swim with fins sometimes but I prefer ones that are not too heavy).

Although I'm not some huge "fan" of mermaids (If you can be one) I had written my Bachelor's thesis about a couple of Disney animations and old tales including "The Little Mermaid". So on the way I have stumbled upon some interesting information and articles on the topic. I have found out that many people still would answer your first question "Do mermaids exist?" with "Yes" and that was a real surprise for me. Anyway we can find tales of mermaids scattered all over the world (in Europe, Africa, Asia) and they either show the creatures as hostiles that prey upon men or as a supporting characters that help on the sea. Nowadays people are still interested in the mermaid topic (I assume that's why those tails were created ;) ) There is even going to be a new movie about "The little mermaid" this or next year.

In 2012 workers in Zimbabwe people refused to work because they believed that mermaids were present.

Here is a link: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2097218/Reason-Zimbabwe-reservoir-delays--mermaids-hounding-workers-away.html

Animal planet has made a "paradocument" "Mermaids: The Body Found" . Of course it's as good as the Ancient Aliens show ;) Anyway the National Ocean Service (USA) even had to make an announcement that "No evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever been found" because of numerous questions from people who were wondering about existence of mermaids ;)

I would so looooove to see that ;) hahha

Like I said, a dream come true! But don't forget to share a photo.
MartaSB said…
That's correct :)

And yeah, I can imagine that someone in the tail sitting on a big rock at some distance from the shore would definitely bring attention :D
Unknown said…
I am really sorry to say that, but I am afraid this is not my thing :D But I guess it might look really cool during some kind of theater spectacles or during shooting a movie, but really I would literally die laughing if I saw someone at the beach wearing something like this hahaha
And it is really expensive I wonder if the experience is really worth it...

I think you would look awesome in mermaid swimsuit! GO FOR IT TOMEK!
Julia Osiak said…
If they were making them a couple years ago, when I was a little girl I wouldn't stop nagging my parents about it. Now, I'm not that interested... I do think that they can be an incredible props or additions to photos, videos or theater. If I would have a chance to try it on and swim in it, I definitely would, but that's it.

I think that swimmable mermaid tails are cool. Unfortunately, I believe, that learning to swim in one can be really tough and there are no proper conditions for it here in Poland. The promo video shows us people swimming underneath the surface without any additional equipment (meaning the water is really clean and they can swim with their eyes open - what many people find uncomfortable).

I've never seen anyone wearing the tail, though I know some mermaids (based on their character) as Paulina described the two common beliefs - both of them are real ;)

I believe, that if there is time to play with this kind of gadgets, it's when you're young and carefree. There is nothing more to the tail swimsuit except for looks and fun. Maybe if the production cost were lowered and some more affordable version (around 100$) were available, tails would become more interesting to the public. Honestly, walking on the beach and seeing mermaids having fun in the coastal line would be pretty awesome sight.
MartaSB said…
The demand for little mermaids is going up - that's fantastic!
MartaSB said…
I totally agree that using the tail for photo shoots or movies sounds most reasonable :)

And as for people believing in aquatic humanoids, well... it's funny for us because we use common sense, but at the same time it reminds us that people will believe in anything.

On the other hand, there is an order of species that is called "Syreny" in Polish language, so in fact we can say that they exist. Is there any resemblance of human beings? Or irresistible beauty? Who knows, maybe for some of us :D
http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syreny
MartaSB said…
There are cheaper ones, but they are not so special when it comes to design and stuff.
I wonder how I could react... I know! I would wait on the shore to see how she will manage to free herself from this outfit! :D
MartaSB said…
"seeing mermaids having fun in the coastal line"

Now I cannot help myself to think that in fact the only activity they can do outside water is sitting or laying on rocks :D but still in awesome manner of course.

From what I heard the tails are quite popular and easy to buy in the Caribbean, so... :)

What do you think about the idea of swimmable mermaid tails?
I think It's really cool! These tails are really very beautiful and I agree that they are very useful in movies or something like that.

Have you ever seen a person wearing one?
No, I've never seen such person, but I'd like to :D

Would you buy a mermaid tail for yourself (or for someone else)?
I think I would, especially if I had extra money :) Why not? It looks cool!
Swimmable mermaid tail is a great idea. I wonder whether it is more efficient to swim with it or without?
Unfortunately, I have seen anybody wearing something like this, but I guess it would look a bit weird at first.
As for purchase, I think that I will have to wait till I am rich or the price of the tail decreases a bit.

I think swimmable marmaid tails could be a great idea for some photo sessions, or special effects in movies, but I can’t really imagine using them for regular swimming situations. In my opinion they don’t look really comfortable.
I have never seen anyone wearing similar tail.
Unfortunately, I would definitely never buy thing like that. It looks really unnecessary for me, and I can think of many better ways of spending 3000$.
However, congratulations to owners of the company, they clearly find a way to earn money doing what they like!
MartaSB said…
That's a good question! I think it can actually be more efficient to swim with the tail, the effect should be similar to wearing flippers.
Unknown said…
I must say I never thought about being a mermaid :D (but who knows…) and I won’t buy such tail for me or someone else… 3000$ for silicon mermaid tail is a lot. I think that person wearing this kind of equipment will be extremely difficult to find.

I never thought about being a mermaid but when I was younger I used to think that it would be cool to have mermaid girlfriend (especially after watching TV series "H2O: Just Add Water").

Then, I became older and realised that mermaid girlfriend may not be that good thing (if you know what I mean :P).

I haven't seen anyone wearing mermaid tail and I wouldn't buy it myself.

At first I thought that this article is completely out of mind, but after reading it I changed my mind. You know… All childish dreams stay with us forever. When I was a child, as probably every girl in the World, I would love to have it. I have to admit that there is some magic in this tail and somehow it still works on me. I would like to try it at least once. However the price is unavailable. It’s hard to believe that there are people ready to pay so much for a mermaid tail! Maybe someday it will be possible to rent it for hours ;)

Swimmable mermaid tails seems very nice, a little work of art. I don't see myself swimming with this tail. I've also never seen anyone wearing, swimming with the tail. I think mermaid tails are great in some photo sessions, commercials.

It seems to me that the mermaid tail is an outfit, which suits mainly women. A woman with a mermaid tail on the picture looks really beautiful but the price of the outfit is really high and I rather would not buy it because $3000 can be spent for other pleasures.
Mad world :) Idea is great and very crazy. I've never heard of it, even more see person who wearing this. It's good for women. I think that I would feel uncomfortable. I wouldn't buy mermaid tail. I don't have money for whim :)

Actually there is a thing called monofin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monofin). I have been swimming with monofin, and it's really great experience. During dive you can feel like a dolphin. So if mermaid tail is a bit too gay for you i recommend trying monofin ;)
Nah, I never considered being a mermaid. I am into fantasy creatures and settings, but the mermaid is not really one of the creatures I am very excited about. Therefore I wouldn't be interested in owning a mermaid tail.

I think that idea of swimmable mermaid tails is nonsense. I didn't see anyone wearing one beside cinema and I dont think that it would be practical. Monofin looks better for me.

I never wanted to be a mermaid. To be honest, I've never even been considering such a possibility. I don't believe in fairy tales and I'm not a dreaming type of person. I am rather a sensible and down-to-earth person, not a very imaginative and highly creative person and so day dreaming and thinking about impossible things is not my thing.

It’s very funny for me. Human come up everything :P At one time I saw film about women which work as me
It’s very funny for me. Human come up everything :P At one time I saw film about women which work as mermaid. It’s completely funny. Unfortunatelly I’ ve never seen person wearing one of swimmable mermaid tails live. I'm sad. I rather wouldn’t buy this tail for myself but maybe for one of my friends. It would be really comical I think.
I really want to see it live.

These costumes are beautiful! But their prices are just terrible... I hope their quality is as high as suggested by the price. It is great that they are engaged into ocean conservation matter. It is a very important subject and more companies should join them. I didn't know that swimming with a tail was very different from regular swimming. I have seen a documentary of a girl that was born with joined legs and she was swimming in a pool like a mermaid. She had her legs separated later on. I don't think having a tail instead of legs is that great, but it was my dream when I was a kid;) However I don't think I would buy a mermaid tail as it is very expensive and I would probably enjoy it once or twice and get bored with it.

in my opinion swimmable mermaid tails are beautiful but I can’t imagine that people start to wear it. This idea will be fine for children. I think that basically people have two legs. We feel comfortable with this fact and we are used to walk on the two foots :)) so swimmable mermaid tail has no sence for me.
MartaSB said…
Thank you for sharing your story Michał :D
MartaSB said…
Oh yeah, monofin is basically the same thing, just without the 'magic' :) more for sport purposes.
Unknown said…
Haha, that looks like a REALLY weird idea to me. No, I don't find it attractive at all, and I would not buy one. BUT, maybe I'm biased - I am allergic to fish :-)
OMG. well... I guess if someone wants to be a fish that fine with me:) but nevertheless I would be afraid of swimming in the Pacific Ocean wearing that tail :D
can any of you guess why ?
ps. 3000$ really ??? You can buy a big fish and just cut the lower half for the better result :D

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
