Week 11 (15-21.12.14) Pets and all.

Are you a cat or a dog person? What do you think? Here, take any of this two quizzes or both and tell us the result in the comment:
Quiz1
Quiz2

Why is there such a division or categorization one may ask. Well, both types have some easily recognizable traits like being more confined to oneself, or very excitable with no particular reason. It's quite different from a simple assumption 'I prefer cats so I'm a cat person' or 'I prefer dogs so I'm a dog person'. It's more like 'If I were to be a cat/dog, which one would reflect my personality

better?'. Both this stereotypes are based on most common pets. So why can't someone be a turtle-person? Or a rabbit-person? Is it simply too much fuss? Dividing the population in two saying you're either a cat or dog type allows the great majority of pet owners to associate with a large community, feeling the strong connection with their beloved companion. And so the minorities like fish, birds, reptiles and other small animal owners also have their 'support groups' in which they can giggle about their cute ferrets or beautiful bettas. Animal companions have always been there for people, giving us their company or protecting us from harm. What bothers me is that we're not always there for our pets. There is much talk about irresponsible owners, and most of the shelters are overpopulated. There is a problem of overpopulation of domestic pets, and no simple solution available. We took two stray cats and domesticated them, and so have many of my friends. If you like animals it's always good to contribute. If you have one, be there for it, if you don't.. think about adopting one from the shelter? :)
I've added photos of my pets for your pleasure :)
So, what is your quiz result? Do you have any pets? If so, tell us your story :) and if not, why?

I've got a "cat person" answer in both quizzes and I definitely agree with that :) As a child I wanted to have every animal on the planet and when I got older my parents got me a rabbit, which was fun. And a couple years later I got two cats and I still have one of them and I love it. I love cats even though I know they aren't always very affectionate but as an adult I'm glad my parents didn't let me to have a dog. They are too messy for me and take too much time and care. Until two weeks ago I lived with my parents in a house outside of the city and I would never have time to take the dog for a walk three times a day (my parents are at work through the day)and we never wanted a pet that lives outside all day (our cats go outside sometimes). A dog needs a lot of care and I feel that they are like children that never grow (I'm not planning on having kids also) and I couldn't imagine having to go back home in the middle of the day just to walk my dog. Not mentioning that dogs need company and the pet wouldn't be happy spending the whole day alone. My boyfriend (his parents)have dogs so in a last few years I found out more about taking care of a dog and affirmed myself that dogs aren't for me. So now I've got one cat at my parents house that we took in about 3 years ago and the older one that I mentioned earlier which is with me in the new apartment and it's sitting on my lap right now :) I still love all animals, I'm trying to be a vegetarian and I really cared/care about all my pets and gave them everything they might need but a cat is definitely a perfect animal for me because we cuddle when we like to but it doesn't mind being home alone during the day and doesn't need that much attention.

But anyway I could never imagine living with no pets :)

It's nice if animals have company. You could consider getting your cat a friend, so that when you have to go out, it's never alone :) plus cats are awesome and two cats are obviously better than one!
Unknown said…
First I got two little cats (sisters) because I didn't want them to be alone and they played and got along really great but one of them was unfortunately hit by a car after a year or so and when a few years later we found a kitten on the street and took it in the older cat really didn't like the new family member and started peeing all over the house and even got some medicine for "depression" from the vet but they never got along (I don't know why because when earlier there was another cat everything was fine) and finally now I moved out and separated them and the older cat is calm and fine. I would really love to get another cat but I don't think I will after last time :( At least I hope that my cat feels better now when it's alone.

Well, sibling animals do get along, don't they? We also have two sister-cats and they go along very well. It's good that everything is all right now, I'm happy to hear that.

I love animals. They have always surrounded me. I do not need to take the quiz to know that I am a dog person. Right now, I have the cutest little dog Lucky. He is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. On 30th of December he will be 1 year old. We are not long together but I cannot imagine my life without him. He brings me so much joy and love. He is always there to make me feel better. But I also spend lot of time taking care of him and show him love. He also has his Instagram account, you can see (and follow ;)) him here: http://instagram.com/lucky_kingcharles . We also have three horses, so my home if full of animals :)
For me animals are very important. I always treat them with respect as if they were human. They teach us a lot about love, friendship and caregiving. I just cannot imagine the world without them.
I also encourage you to help animals’ shelters. You can make a permanent wire transfer of as little as 2-5 zlotys and I am sure you will not feel the difference during the month but for these animals it may make a big difference. I support shelter in Korabiewice. They work hard to make a nice and safe place for abandoned animals. If you like to help them, visit their website: http://schronisko.info.pl/

Well, i got a cat person so no surprise there. I've been around cats for as long as i can remember, however i never had one in my house since everyone in my family has allergy, but my grandma raised turkish angora for some time and my uncle had 3 cats. I really like those animals because we have many things in common if it comes to my personality (also when i was in Russian school and there was some sort of holiday school play, i always had a role of a cat or fox) As for dogs, until i was teen i was allegedly afraid of big ones and annoyed by small ones. At the moment i respect bigger breeds and still dislike small dogs mostly because most of em are "trained" into being small annoying accessory.
But dogs or cats are not my only favourite animals, i love all animals, especially wild ones. That is why i don't think i'll ever have anything besides cats. I really want to have a fox but in a city like warsaw it's forbidden. I also like owls and eagles and don't mind some types of lizards like geckos or chameleons. The list might go on and on. At the moment however, the craziest pet friend i want to have is lynx as i view them as felines.

I'm big opponent of having pets like birds, reptiles, bugs.. I can't understand people keeping snakes, or spiders. There are snakes that needs to be fed with rats, or etc. I think it's sick to keep an animal that needs living food. Other thing that can't fit into my mind is how can people keep birds in cages, as bird, is by it's nature meant to fly....
Unknown said…
Same here, as much as I like having some exotic pets I still believe that they belong in the wilds. As for snake and spiders, I don't see how they it can be bad for them getting fed and live in comfort, but it's just weird to others.

The first one says I am a dog person the second the opposite. Probably this is true, because I don't consider myself as either dog or cat person. I like both and I would like to have 2 cats(Russian blue and bengal) and 2 dogs(German Shepherd and Husky) then train them well.

From 1996 to 2003 I had German Shepherd called Jerry, he was extremely well trained. As a tv dog: Cywil he was surplus cub, for some time he was trained in Sułkowicem then taken by his final owner. The dog was totally awesome. I don't have any animals right now but when I'll take one I want to give it proper training.

I've just stumbled upon a somewhat connected article. Unfortunately it's in polish, though it is kind of... interesting.

Definitely I’m dog person. For as long as I remember, I have always had a dog. First bernardine, next English bulldog and Labrador. I love all of animals, but if I have a choice, I’ll choose the dog.Cats are very funny and sometimes very stupid, in particular in youtube’s films.I like cats hair, is so very soft and pleasant for hand. Very frightening cat breed is sphynx and he hasn’t hair !

I always thought I'm a cat person (it is also visible in the tests results), maybe because we always had lots of cats in my family's home and never a dog. However, things changed a bit and now I'm sure I will enjoy having a dog when the right time comes to have one. I really like shepherds and hunting dogs and just as Robert, in the future I would like to train my dog well.

As for cats, I like the fact that they are independent and can have very complex character - I have two cats and at first glance one is elegant and 'dangerous' (it's good at hunting toys and stuff) and the second one is cute and a bit silly (playing with food, it's hard for her to focus sometimes etc). But when they went outside it turned out that the bossy one is staying near home, avoiding other cats and the silly one is fighting all neighbour's cats and passionately (and successfully) hunting all kinds of small animals - that was really surprising!

In the future I imagine moving into a house with garden to have necessary space for all my animals.
Unknown said…
I would suggest you to stay with one bengal or 2 russian blues since bengals are really needy and require more food and other cat related stuff (besides the fact that in poland they are still quite expensive, unless you know any cat breeder). Also bengal cats can attack dogs, maybe not the one they were growing up with but defiantly ones on the street.
Unknown said…
I like both, cats and dogs, but I wouldn't have a dog knowing I can provide it with necessary living conditions (Garden) and same with cat (time to clean up, feed it). Unfortunately I don't have those, nor will to make sacrifices that I know would be required to treat those animals with care that they deserve, so I am admiring them from a distance.
Unknown said…
I am not big fun of animals. I accept especialy dogs only if you live in a house, for sure not in small flats. Maybe if you have very small dog like this:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/18/Ruby_the_jack_russell.jpg
or just cat or turtle or spider. When I was a kid I wanted a snake or a monkey.
They just said no.. In both tests I'm a dog person and I think it works.
Those tests are great!

I wasn't supprised I got "cat person" results in both tests - but if I would be forced to choose a pet to take care of, it would definately be a dog.

I prefer joyful pets. Unfortunately i dont own any, because I dont have enough free time to take responsibility of taking care of one. If I would, it would probably been a german shepherd.
Unknown said…
Just like i thought, I am a dog person. I love all animals, but I think I prefer dogs over cats. In my opinion dogs are more playful friendly and protective. They can be trully "man's best friend".
I've never had a cat, but from observations I made visiting many cat owners, I can say they are more independent and lazy. They have a solo personalities and don't need people's company.
Thanks. The plan is to take them all at the same time, when I'll be able to devote enough time and money to them and raise together.

I dont have to do the quiz as I already know I'm the cat-person like.
I do love animals and I have pets - 2 dogs and 1 cat.
The dogs are called "Ares" (he is a german shepherd) and "Minka" (she is a mongrel), and the cat is called "Fana" (she is 16 years old).
Unfortunately animals, like cats and dogs live much shorter than humans, so having such a companions does mean you will have to watch them pass away.
Having a pet is like having a baby. You have to take care of it, every day.
2 weeks ago Minka got accident as some car hit her in the side. Fortunately no bones were broken (I do have a video from the vet! :D).
My lovely 16 year old cat will die soon, because she is sick (we found out yesterday)

I never thought about it this way but apparently I am Cat person… and I must say that quiz is pretty accurate. Currently I don’t have any animals simply because I don’t have time and space for such kind of activities but in the future I would like to have a cat or two - British Shorthair is my first choice but maybe I will find another one.
Pets have always been a part of my family. I had both cats and dogs, but dogs are my favorites. Currently we have a dog and he is certainly a member of the family. He's name is Barnie. I must say I really love animals in general and like playing with them and such. I never had trouble with animals, usually they like and befriend me quite easily.

I've got 'cat person' in the first quiz and a dog person in second quiz :)
For me the second quiz looks like more 'legit' as I hate cats.
My parents own a dog. A silly dog - scared of water :) I like to play with cats of my friends but I can't imagine owning one.

Well... I prefer dogs as pets, for me they are more awesome. The only thing I dislike is the need to go out with them which as I have seen is seen as a problem for my friends dog. Seriously my type of dog! As for other pets, yeah they are cool but still I prefer the type of pet that shows affection.

As for cats... well they have a reset button which I think would be handy on dogs, though I don't remember where this certain nerve was

I took both quizzes and the results are equal, I’m a cat person. In fact if I think about it more I would agree with it. However personally I prefer dogs. Unfortunately I don’t have any pets right now. I would like to have it, but I try to be responsible and I know that my life style isn’t good for any kind of animal. Maybe one day it will change…
Unknown said…
Both for cat, well I love cats, however I am not against dogs too. I have a cat, so that could be another reason why I prefer cats - I just know more about them and how to take care of them.
Unknown said…
I didn't want to do the quizes, because those questions are really hard ;), and i don't believe there is such thing as a dog or a cat person. In my family we have had a few dogs and few cats(always one dog and one cat at a time) and sure they were always very different, but i liked them both...
Actually as I'm writing this, i start to realize that I always liked my dogs more, but I'm still not convinced that there is such thing as cat and dog person. For me it's another thing for people to argue about. In this case the sides are cat owners vs. dog owners, but it's the same thing as bikers vs. drivers or apple fans vs. android fans.

My result for both of test is 'cat person'.
Unfortunately I don't have neither dog nor cat. But I love animals, I think they should have more free space and that's why I don't have any in my flat. In my dreamed home would find one Bernese Mountain Dog, one Border Collie and two cats. That would be perfect place :)

Funny thing, I got 'cat person' in the first quiz and 'dog person' in the second one. I'm not surprised though because I do feel that I have some traits both from a dog and a cat. Currently I take care of one cat and I'm really enjoying her companionship. However, I used to have a dog and sometimes I miss the interaction and playing with him. It's a completely different experience so I cannot say which pet I like having the most. I was to chose which animal would I be, I think I'd go for a cat, but a friendly one, so I could get along with dogs just fine :)
Unknown said…
Quiz result is "cat". I thinkt that I am "a dog" lol. It was surprise for me that result was different. I am dog owner and I prefer dogs than cats. When I was Child I loved all animals especially dogs. I had two big dogs. People can say that I grew up with dogs.
I have small dog. He is called dago and his breed is schnauzer miniature. I treat he like a family member. Dago is very sociable dog. He wants to be everywhere my family and I are. He won't leave us for a second unless he eat or sleep. I haven't ever had a cat maybe it will change my opinion that my favorite pet is dog.

Hahaha, I’m a dog person :P Uff, stone from my heart :P I completely don’t like cats :P I liked it when I was a child, not now. I lived in house where lived cat as well. It was not good experience :P My all black clothes brought grey. Oh, it was terrible :P
Dogs ok, but never at home.

Same for me - in one I got 'cat person and in the other one 'dog person'... I've got one dog. I brought her form a shelter in Lublin 3 years ago. Since then she's living with us at HOME (even thought she round 50kg). I can't imagine not having a dog...:)

Expected a bit more from the movie :) it has potential!
rf. said…
Why would it be sick to keep them? Some animals are taken to shelters because they need help (some birds too) and in the end they stay with people. Some of them breed and so the newborns are brought in human world already. Nothing wrong with taking them in I'd say. You need to remember that as humans we kinda turned the wilds upside down, so we're responsible for it now.
rf. said…
That's a big decission to make I'd say. And taking them all at the same time sounds way troublesome.
rf. said…
All animals can behave as if they're stupid but I'd say that calling cats in general 'sometimes very stupid' is a little presumptuous.
rf. said…
Yeah, that's the plan :)
rf. said…
It is wise to know one's limits. On the other hand, pets are very rewarding, so if you like them, try giving one a chance if you think you can squeeze it in your timetable :)
rf. said…
Haha, funny one!
rf. said…
No one should be forced to take a pet. It's a great pleasure but a great responsibility nonetheless. If you decide to have a pet at some point in your life I hope it would be your decision!
rf. said…
I had a similar opinion until I had cats of my own. I raised them as I would dogs, and so they come when you whistle at them, are very playful and not lazy at all! :)
Unknown said…
I am a cat person, that's for sure. And both quizes agree on that;) I have three cats and I would not change them for dogs. One of them is a pedigree cat and she is the most paranoid and weird cat I've ever seen. Another one is a roofer, we took her from a vet's rescue system (people bring found and often injured stray animals, vets take care of them and somebody adopts them later on; she and her siblings were found in a roadside ditch, they were a few days old and left to die there). The last one is a mix of two breeds and we took him instead of a pedigree cat that we wanted (he was a fruit of a passionate and also banned romance in a pedigree breed that we visited; he was so ugly, small, crooked and resolute that I fell in love with him at once). I have been surrounded with animals since I remember, we had a lot of indoor and outdoor pets, including cats, dogs, sheep, chicken, geese, lizards, fish, some rodents etc. Now apart from cats I have an iguana at home. It is not mine and it's not domesticated well (it is possible to domesticate an iguana - here's an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGYCqQLJ6Ls wI warn you, the person is annoying) and as the matter of fact I wouldn't like a pet that is not a dog or a cat. Dogs and cats are more "communicative" than other pets.
rf. said…
One of the reasons for letting children have pets is that they will go away sometime soon (compared to human lifespan). That is to teach young people how to deal with saying goodbye to our loved ones.
rf. said…
They are quite adorable. Having a pet is easier for a couple I believe. And if you're thinking about taking two cats - I highly recommend it. I'd also mention that you may consider adopting a cat from a shelter, they're just as lovely.
rf. said…
You know what they say - animals 'know' people, so if they like you in general, then you must be a good person ;) I'm happy to hear that you treat animals as family!
rf. said…
You know them, 'quizes' :) For me the first one looks a bit more professional than the other. And I believe that lots of cats hate other cats, so you know... that may actually be the best proof that you're a cat-person all the way :)
rf. said…
If you're talking about handling cats as their mothers do, by the skin just behind the neck - it's the same for dogs. And the need for walking with dogs is actually an advantage of having one in my opinion. Physical exercise is really good for you, you know? :)
rf. said…
Recently I've watched a movie and what you said made me remember a quote. 'Sometimes we make decisions, and sometimes decisions make us.' - I belive that you will like the change that having a pet will bring you. Also, you don't necessarily have to take a pet to know how it feels. Some shelters let you take a dog for a walk or sometimes a friend is is need for a pet hotel (because he leaves for a trip or something) - so it can give you a hint of how great it is to have an animal companion. I have to warn you though - shelters are quite a difficult thing to handle for sensitive people and animals there are often 'experienced by life' and not as 'cute and adorable' as newborn pups or kittens.
rf. said…
We can see that in your profile photo :) you look quite a team!
rf. said…
I think you're more 'shades of gray' than 'black and white' person (another division, hell yeah!) and that's good (I consider myself so too). I'm happy that I made you think and realize something new about yourself :)
rf. said…
I'd recommend to start of a bit slow, with one dog or a pair of cats maybe. Animals need our attention, and a 'dreamed house' is sometimes just a house with a pet you found on the street that loves you as much as you love it.
rf. said…
Haha, friendliness as a top priority, that's great! My first pet was a dog and I didn't really like cats, but when I got cats of my own I brought them up as dogs and they are sooo interactive and playful many of my friends are amazed with them. Guess it's just a matter of upbringing and character? :)
rf. said…
I don't believe that the test results are too reliable. You know yourself best. On the other hand cat people are simply more individualists and like to keep their cool. That doesn't necessarily mean that they prefer cats over dogs.
rf. said…
So you actually like the clear distinction of whether someone is a cat or a dog person? From many comments before yours I noticed that people don't necessarily like to be categorized in such a fashion. I believe that recognizing some traits is really useful and helps understanding yourself, I'm happy that you liked it. About cats invading your personal space - it's important to have rules for your animals, that helps a lot. Oh, and practicing relationships with pets helps maintaining relationships with people too! ^^
rf. said…
Dog are awesome. I really miss having one at the moment, but will certainly have a Bavarian Mountain Hound sometime in the future.
rf. said…
Awesome movie, felt a bit like little Jurassic Park :) you seem an animal person and that's lovely, but surely you must agree, that parrots or ferrets or rats can be as communicative as dogs or cats.
Rafał Banach said…
Hmm, I prefer dogs but I also have cat and this is surprise for me because I always hated them. I have huge dog he was teached that he can't broke his toys with his huge jaws. I go out with him for a walk, like everyday. When I came back with him I saw that He has got something in his mouth and that was blind little cat who someone throw into the woods for dead. She stayed with us and now they're best friends. They even eat from one bowl.
I am quite a dog person I think. I have 2 beautiful Papillon dogs and I am quite literally in love in them, one of them is quite shy and foxy, loves to cuddle and sleep a lot. The other one is complete opposite, she is one crazy little dog that loves her toys other peoples toys and all the toys and snacks you can find in the world. In other words, she would make you love her and then get you so tired that you would not know what happened :) . But to be honest I don't think you can say someone is dog or cat person from the quiz :) It all depends on the character I guess. To be honest, I might be some Gorilla or Tiger person who knows.

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...
