Week 4 [27 October - 2 November]: "Ambition" by Platige Image, deeper look at the future of the Rossetta mission
The whole movie:
“Ambition is a collaboration between Platige Image and ESA. Directed by Tomek Bagiński and starring Aiden Gillen and Aisling Franciosi, Ambition was shot on location in Iceland, and screened on 24 October 2014 during the British Film Institute’s celebration of Sci-Fi: Days of Fear and Wonder, at the Southbank, London” [1]
The movie is the short Rosetta mission promotion clip. ESA agency invited a Polish studio to cooperate with them to produce 6 minute long clip in a very existential sci-fi climate presenting the future of human existence.
Ambition, as I wrote, has very existential climate and focuses on human life. It is a story how our life’s can look like in the future. Rossetta mission was one of main milestones and it is initiating further events presented for us in clip. But, to be specific what is actually this Rossetta mission?
Rosetta is
a robotic space probe built and launched by the European Space Agency to
perform a detailed study of a comet launched on 2 March 2004 to be the first
spacecraft orbiting a comet. Scientists believe in theory that water on earth
comes from asteroids and the whole purpose of this spacecraft is to gathering
information from space for further studies. To be more specific…
“The spacecraft has already performed two asteroid flyby missions on its way to the comet. In 2007, Rosetta also performed a Mars swing-by (flyby), and returned images. The craft completed its fly-by of asteroid 2867 Šteins in September 2008 and of 21 Lutetia in July 2010. On 20 January 2014, Rosetta was taken out of a 31-month hibernation mode and continued towards the comet. It has been estimated that in the decade preceding 2014, some 2,000 people had assisted in the mission in some capacity.” [2]
No one actually knows for how long the Rosetta mission would last but it can definitely bring some interesting information about different places in space which can maintain simple life forms or places possessing layers of water.
Maybe we are not alone?

When I am watching something like this I am really happy to see, that our compatriots can make something so good, it makes me feel proud of Poles :)
It would be fun to know which events from the present will be seen as milestones in the future.
There is possibility that people in the future might have totally different perspective on ongoing events. Do you see any progress/evolution which is omitted by political correct media today that will have big impact to the future?
As for Rossetta mission, I think it is great that the scientists are looking for source of life outside the Earth. Afterall, It would be a little sad if humans were the only living form in the universe.
But I've noticed one thing like a passion and ambition. I'm really sure that people shouldn't give up every time something goes wrong, they should continue and then they will reach what they are fighting for. It's just about time and desire.
Just like Natalia, I'm really proud of Poles when I hear about such achievements.
Are we alone in the universe? I don't think so. The number of stars and solar systems out there is so big that there is a great chance of a planet that may have conditions favourable to life. I'm not in the position to say whether it is a bacteria-type living organism or a space dinosaur, but still... there is a possibility of life existing out there.
+ there is a chance that NASA knows about something, but they will not inform us to spare unnecessary commotion ;)
Here is the whole list of things that are on it:

As for the question closing this article, I've read recently very interesting article about it here: http://waitbutwhy.com/2014/05/fermi-paradox.html
Of course you won't find the answer there, but it briefly explains some interesting ideas scientists came up with.

The subject of life outside our planet is fascinating but also a bit scary for me. When I look at the night sky I prefer to simply admire it's beauty and vastness.

It's a 3-D map of the local universe (out to a distance of 380 million light-years) It took more than 10 years to complete.
It's just too big for 1 form of life.
As for the movie I won't be original - the SFX are amazing! Bagiński is doing "the job". I also like the idea of "new human abilities". It's pretty much possible that through centuries people will unlock powers/abilities that now are only possible on the silver screen.
Are we alone in the universe? Probably not, it would be unlikely given its vastness, complexity.
I also agree that it's impossible that we are the only one living form in universe and its matter of time when we will discover our compatriots, the same as Columb discovered America while no one thought about another continents
