The Oscar ceremony, awards granted by "American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences", arouses great emotions and interest all over the world every year. At first, there was no indication that this event would turn into such a big ceremony. At the beginning I would like to briefly present the history of this event.
The first Oscars were held on May 16, 1929 at a private party at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. Tickets cost $ 5, and the ceremony was watched by 270 people - mostly members of the Academy. An interesting fact is that the ceremony lasted 15 minutes and took place three months after the winners were announced.

At first, Oscars aroused little interest. The fact that for many years the winners were known before the main ceremony did not increase the popularity of this event. Since 1940, the Academy has used sealed envelopes to reveal the names of the winners.
Another change regarding this event is the place of awarding. The first theater in which the ceremony took place was Grauman’s Chinese Theater. The ceremony in 1944 was the first to be broadcast outside the United States. Since 2002, prizes have been awarded at the newly built Dolby Theater.

Interesting information is also that at the beginning Oscars were awarded at the turn of March and April. Since 2004, celebrations have been taking place on the last Sunday of February.
An important aspect at this gala is the handed statuette. It depicts a knight based on a two-handed sword standing on a film reel with five spokes, each symbolizing one of the professional groups represented at the Academy: actors, screenwriters, directors, producers and technicians. The statuette weighs about 8.5 pounds and is about 13.5 inches tall. It is made of so-called "Britannium", i.e. an alloy of tin, antimony and copper, covered with 24-carat gold. There are rumors that Cedric Gibbons, the designer of the statuette, made its first sketch on a napkin during a banquet.
An important element of the Oscars is the speech of the winners. Most of the speeches are carefully prepared, floral monologues, rich in thanks to relatives and colleagues.
Some of the speeches are deep, with a message memorable because of what content they carry. These include the speeches of Tom Hanks, Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Winslet and this year's speech by Joaquin Phoenix. By contrast, the speeches of Cher, Alfred Hitchcock or Matthew McConaughey can be considered quite strange and unsuccessful. A fairly unfortunate situation took place in 2017, when the winner in the "Best film" category was announced "La la Land" by mistake and the winner was "Moonlight".
Musical performances are also very important at the Oscars. Last year, the performance of "Shallow" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper was one of the best in history.
Like many great events, Oscars give the star the opportunity to show off in dazzling creations. As always and everywhere this is of course a matter of taste. There are creations that are breathtaking, but there are also quite controversial ones. One such unsuccessful and controversial stylization was presented by Whoopi Goldberg in 1993 or Billy Porter in 2019. The Amy Adams dress from 2013 is one of the most beautiful styles.

This year, the 92th award ceremony has already taken place. It took place on February 9, 2020. Just like last year, there was no host at the gala. An interesting fact is that this year the current category "best non-English film" has been replaced by "the best international feature film". The most nominated, eleven, was awarded to the movie Joker - and only received 2, including "Best Actor" - the lead actor Joaquin Phoenix.
The South Korean film "Parasite" turned out to be the biggest winner of this year's gala. The film won in the categories: "best international feature film", "best original script", "best director" and "best film". This is the first non-English film to win the "Best Film" category.

2.Personally I am not so intrested about them. But if I had a chance to go there I would.
3.Some of them but usually not all of them. It's just always some type of movies category. There are ton of other different new movies every year that it is impossible to put them in one simple category.
2.Personally I am not so intrested about them. But if I had a chance to go there I would.
3.Some of them but usually not all of them. It's just always some type of movies category. There are ton of other different new movies every year that it is impossible to put them in one simple category.
2. I don’t watch them and probably the closest answer to the truth is that I don’t have any opinions about it. However, recently I’ve heard something about celebrities trying to be “eco-friendly” by for example using the same suit twice instead of ordering a new one each time. It’s just funny, but in a way not worth spending time on it.
3. I haven’t watched “Parasite” yet, but I have watched “Joker” and it is one of the best films I have ever watched. Is it true that one of the most important factors is amount of race diversity and a number of women among the main roles? If it is more important than the actual quality and the level of realism, then such award is worthless in my humble opinion. I am not sure about this, but I’ve just heard rumours that it was a reason why Polish movie did not win.
2. It depends. On the one hand I love the idea of awarding films for different categories but on the other I don’t like such events - fancy outfits, too long speeches and mass media that assess everyone's behavior.
3. In the past, the level of nominated films was high, but in my opinion something has changed for several years. What matters more is the plot of the film, not the whole of it, however I still recommend these movies. There are Oscar movies (like: Green Book, Slumdog Millionaire, Shakespeare in Love ….. the list is long) which I can watch many times.
2. I think they are important and there are many people who appreciate them far more than I do. Surely this is an event for people with more artistic and fashion sensitivity.
3. I rarely see nominated films and they are not in taste, they are usually too hard and too psychological.
2. The Oscar give some idea about the current trends in mainstream cinema. It is a safe bet that movies that won the most awards will be enjoyed by the most of people. So to sum up they are useful for people that aren't deeply interested in films yet still don't want to be out of the loop.
3. From this years nominations I've seen 'Parasite' and 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood'. They were both high quality movies and I recommend them.
Thus, they are rather indifferent to me. Especially, when Oscar for the best animation is given AGAIN to “Toy Story” instead of innovative and breathtakingly beautiful “Klaus”. I don’t treat this trophy as anything meaningful nowadays, nevertheless this prize is undoubtfully prestigious.
3. Yes, I do think it is high. Whatever we say, these are extremely prestigious awards, and it is very hard to be selected and spotted in order to take part in this competition.
2. I think the Oscars ceremony is a typical cinema festival. They are important for people associated with the cinema, actors, directors, Kinga Rusin ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). Here is an interesting meeting of industry colleagues, cool and famous people. I would compare it to a gal for choosing the best athlete in the country.
3. To be honest I didn't watch all the nominated films. I haven't seen 'Joker', 'Parasite'. But I saw an 'Irishman' and I didn't like at all. I have a good opinion about "Once upon a time in Hollywood", in my opinion Quentin Tarantino wonderfully reflected the atmosphere of the 60-70s in Hollywood, and Brad Pitt was brilliant. I also saw the movie 'Ford vs Ferrari', I loved the theme of friendship between the main characters. On rainy days, it's worth taking the time to watch these movies.
2. I think that such events like Oscar Ceremony and other film festivals are a great opportunity to set trends and attract the attention of viewers to those films that have unique artistic value.
3. I have watched "Joker" and "Toy Story 4". The first one is not just comics it is a perfect drama with an atmosphere of madness and violence. The second one is a cute cartoon but at the same time enough philosophical. And I highly recommend watching both!
1. No, I've never watched the live broadcast of the Oscar Ceremony before since it's always being streamed at very late hours. Even so, I tried watching this year's Ceremony on the official Oscars' online stream but sadly to no avail due to country restriction (the stream could only be viewed from USA). I guess I should have invested in the VPN after all. However I always record the Ceremony and watch it after a day or so.
2. In my opinion these kinds of events are very much needed. They gather a lot of attention, allowing great artists and filmmakers to be noticed by many. I also think that simply being awarded and honoured brings great joy to folks getting those awards. Events like that can also serve as a mean to bring up important issues to a bigger public - take some of the speeches from the winners of Oscars as an example.
3. I think the level of nominated films is high indeed, although some falsely nominated movies happen as well. But I am really glad that the "Parasite" won the best picture this year and I can easily recommend it for everyone as it is a universal movie touching subjects known to everyone. However I am a bit disappointed by the Academy for not picking "Klaus" as the best animated picture this year - "Toy Story 4" was good but it was stale tales. I also appreciate other movies nominated for the best picture, especially the "Joker". Joaquin Phoenix really deserved that Oscar for his performance and I'm glad he got it.
1. No, I've never watched live broadcast of the ceremony, becouse its always in a midle of night and as normal person I need to go to work next day.
2. These types of events are less and less important ,from one year to another.
Since last few years controversies about nominees are more important than movies itself - No black director, no woman director, film have gay character or don't have gay character etc.
If the film is good , who cares what color/gender/sexual orientation actors or directors have . Let the movies defend them selfs.
3.I saw few movies from list ( "Parasite", "Once upon a time in Hollywood", "Joker" and "Ford vs Ferrari"). They are good movies but they aren't great movies ( although Joaquin Phoenix was great in his role)
No, I only read about the results from other media sites. Ain't nobody got time for that.
2.What do you think about these types of events?
I believe they are starting to flow off from main objective of the event and move to much into stuff like politics and racism. They are actors, directors and others, so such type of event should be purely cinematographic.
3.Do you think the level of nominated films is high? Are these movies worthy of your recommendation?
Some of them yes, especially Into the Spider-Verse. It won an Oscar award last year as Best Animated Feature Film. I'm personally in love with it, it is my first movie that made me go to the cinema twice.
2. I enjoy watching Oscars and other Hollywood events. Those events frequently bring additional out of context interviews with people you adore. Nominees usually give some good speeches. Also on such events cultural influencers bring up world problems, like global warming, charity, etc. once again, so that people can think about those problems once again. I also like esthetics of such events, beautiful people, decorations and interesting outfits.
3. I think so. I didn't watch all of them, but I very much enjoyed “Joker”, “The Irishman”, “Parasite”, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and “Jojo Rabbit”. It's more than half of Best Picture nominations and are all very good. Although "The Irishman" was a bit boring but it' Martin Scorsese's style. I'd recommend to check out those.
2. I believe that they are needed in the entertainment industry, so that creators of the most ambitious and thought provoking movies can be awarded for their efforts. This is also true for the actors that play in those movies. Showing them that the public appreciates their talent can push them to achieve even greater results.
3. Yes, i believe that the level of these movies is high. Usually when a movie is nominated (especially for Oscars) it means that it is worth watching. But it must be noted, that those movies are usually hard to watch, and really thought provoking, so if you just want to watch a movie to kill time, i do not recommend choosing any of the nominated movies.
2. I think they are really great to show a good work that actors and directors did creating a movie. I think because of this type of events people are trying their best to create something unusual and great. I recently watched movie called The Gentelmen and it was amazing. I highly recommend u watch it.
3. Well I think some of them yes and others dont. Movie can have great shots and win a award over it (at least I think so), but a movie overall isn't that amazing. I try to see what actors play in particular movie that I want to watch and decide from that.
2. To me, Oscars aren't just an awards ceremony as they used to be years back. Nowadays, it's more of a marketing event - which seems to be everyting except making movies.
3. It sure is high (well, usually). As a huge enthusiast of asian cinematography I'm really glad to see that it's finally been noticed and awarded by such a prestigious board. I would definitely recommend Parasite to everyone.
1. No, I have never watched the live broadcast of the Oscar Ceremony, because I'm not interested. The exception is that if the media has a hot topic, I will watch a fragment of rewarding for some actor it concerns.
2. In my opinion, the Oscar Ceremony is overrated. Nowadays this is not what it used to be, when actors actually got rewards for their participation, which was really significant. Now it's politics, and above all money. Now it's just a "normal" ceremony and that's it. This is the brutal truth.
3. I honestly have no idea, I don't have a look at it all because I have never been interested in such a ceremony. I watched the Joker and somehow I don't think it was a great movie. I wanted to watch the Parasite, but I haven't had the chance yet. But soon...
It is good that they are happening, as this is the annual summary of one of the biggest art-related industries in the world. I wonder what will happen with this ceremony in next 10/15 years, as every year there are more and more movies beeing produced (and they are not from the 'top shelf') and the viewers taste moves towards undemanding cinema. Hopefuly this will not affect the academy's nominations.
I am not an expert and I have not seen many new movies this year. One of few I have seen was the 'Joker' which I would rate seven out of ten. Simply this movie was not that interesting as I thought it would be, so despite this movie beeing rated highly by majority of public I would not rate it higher and would not recommend it to my friends (to strangers - maybe 8)).
If you would like to read about ceremony that is interesting (from my perspective), please read about this years César Awards.
2. I think these kinds of events are needed even though they often bring some controversies with them. Awards always motivate people to strive to do greater things that will forever remain in our culture. If we're talking particularly about the Oscars, I don't like their negligence of foreign movies. It's great that Parasite won this year, but I would like to see more nomination for Japanese anime which I dearly love.
3. To be honest, I rarely agree with the results, but I have to admit, every nominated movie looks really professional, has high budget and actors seem like they weren't chosen randomly. We can safely watch it without worrying if it is poorly made.
No, I have never watched it, to be honest, it is not so interesting for me, I prefer to watch some short clips about the people who I like but not the whole live broadcast, moreover, if I want to know the list of winners, I can always find out the list just after the ceremony will be finished.
2.What do you think about these types of events?
In my opinion, nowadays the Oscar ceremony itself is essentially a business, the producer ABC needs to increase the ratings to sell advertisements, many producers spend a lot of money on canvassing activities for the position of themselves, and trade unions in various industries also speak for their own interests, in the end, they forgot this is a movie event.
3.Do you think the level of nominated films is high? Are these movies worthy of your recommendation?
I only want to talk about the movie "Joker", I really appreciate it, Joaquin Phoenix really deserved what he should got, moreover, he used this speech opportunity to call on the public to face climate change issues and focus on the Australian fire, which became the focus of discussions, he also said that he would only wear the same suit at each award ceremony and event this year, use this idea as a protest against environmental pollution caused by the fashion industry. So I will not only recommend this movie to friends, but I also recommend this actor as a role model for everyone.
No, I have never watched the Oscar Ceremony live nor retransmitted. I am not into events like that. I have only watched widely known Ricky Gervais speeches on Golden Globes events, but this is all I sawfrom this kind of ceremonies.
2. What do you think about these types of events?
Like I said above, I am not really into them, however, I approve the idea of giving awards to people who have done something outstanding and way above the average in their field. No matter if this is the Oscars Ceremony or Nobel Prize Ceremony, most of the laureates simply deserve that.
3. Do you think the level of nominated films is high? Are these movies worthy of your recommendation?
I am not much of a movie enthusiast, so I am not actually the one to judge. When I think about it now, the set of movie genres which I really enjoy is quite small. I do not mean that I would not watch the movie if it was beyond the set, but the probability that I would liked the fantasy/sci-fi/comics-related movie is very low. This is probably because I greatly cherish the truth and hate the fiction in every aspect of life.
2. Such events don't have any particular impact on my life but I am sure they are definitely necessary. Even though we pay the most attention to fashion, we have to remember that all the awards are to show respect to hard work and dedication.
3. Most of the awarded movies I watch after the Oscar Ceremony. I like focusing on the part which was awarded. Even though some of them don't appeal to me I have to admit that I don't regret watching any of them. The vast majority of the films encourages reflection on various aspects of life.
2. I think this types of events are perfectly organised. Everyone attending wears nice designer clothes and it is a great entertainment. I also think that is nice that all of them meet together once a year.
3. In my opinion this year's level of nominated films is very high. Parasite is one of my favorite films. I recommend it to everyone, because that film can be assigned to any film genre. I also recommend Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood, because it's beautifully filmed and the outfits are perfectly matched.
Have you ever watched the live broadcast of the Oscar Ceremony?
No, In fact I am not actually a movie person, so I have little knowledge on what is going on in this industry and such.
What do you think about these types of events?
As in any industry, having huge investments serves multiple purpose. It refreshes existing audience's interest, attracts new people, shows that the industry is alive and well. So they are of a big importance.
Do you think the level of nominated films is high? Are these movies worthy of your recommendation?
Actually this may sound crazy but throughout my lifetime I watched less than ten movies at all. When I have free time to watch them, there is always, always something else, more interesting to do for me.
I prefer Golden Globes then Oscars, Ricky Gervais as a host maks this event most entertaining. Oscars, however, are usually predictable and overly politically correct rather than true to the art.
The Oscars have many categories and I believe everybody will find something for themselves. I enjoy ambitious movies, such as Parasite, as much as the ones that based on action and special effects like Mad Max. Both of those films were recognised by the academy and got their statuette. However, many more interesting movies will never get nominated, even if they are great or even better, they are not famous enough for the award. Parasite was an exception, but usually the prize goest to big-budget, Hollywood movies. It was sad to see Claus creators not getting their reward, that they truly deserved, in favour of Toy Story 4 which is a good series, however, didn't brought much new to the animations art. Altogether, Oscar awarded movies are worth watching, although, in my opinion, they are not actually the best ones.
2/I consider this a very motivating event for both the nominees and the audience.
3/Usually, people who have not watched most of the movie premieres, judge them by Oscar nominations, and do not watch them themselves. I believe that in the first place you need to build your opinion after watching the film yourself and not only after the nomination. But this is very useful if you are not very versed in the film industry, what you can build on or which movie to watch this evening, according to critics and most viewers.
2. In my opinion they are most needed. There are plebiscites like this in almost every area of life. Is it the choice of the best athlete, the choice of Nobel Prize winners and so on. That's why I think that the Oscars don't differ from them and it's very good that they are taking place.
3. To be honest, I haven't been to the cinema for over a year and it's hard for me to comment on the level of these films. However, it has been accepted that if films are considered " in Oscars" they are certainly all worth watching.
No, I have never seen Oscar Ceremony live. Actually, I have never seen anything similar. However, I would love to one day but such big events usually happen in the middle of the night or very early in the morning so it is something that needs a little bit of determination to execute.
What do you think about these types of events?
Well, sometimes they seem very overrated because when you think about it it's only about very wealthy people sitting in one room while praising each other. On the other hand when I see such hosts as Ricky Gervais who mocks those people while hosting it feels much more genuine.
Do you think the level of nominated films is high? Are these movies worthy of your recommendation?
Most of the times - yes. I cannot think of a situation when a film that was bad got a really prestigious award.
2. Well, continuing my previous answer, I understand the necessity of such events. That’s a perfect opportunity to cover all achievements from the movie industry and stay tuned with a world’s movie ‘fashion’ that tells us a bit about what kind of problems are now popular among different directors and what kind of threads Hollywood can stress out.
3. Yes. I recommended my friends watching some of the movies presented during the Oscar Ceremony. My favorite one is “Joker”. AS for me- that was a perfect psychological thriller/drama.
2. These types of events maybe can be really important for people of this industry or their big fans, but in other cases, it's only another TV show. Not the best, not the worst.
3. I think the level of films is high, but there are often questions about the first place - does this film really desire it or not? I can mention, that there is a lot of politics and pressure from some well-known groups of society in many Oscar-holding films of the last few years, even if they are good enough.
2. Personally i am not following celebrities lives too much and also i am not interested about this kind of ceremony but this is really important prize. In my opinion its always awesome feeling when your work is rewarded and appreciated by the other people. That is the reason why this kind of events are important in our life. :)
3. I am not sure because i saw only part from this list but often this movies are produced on highest level in every plane. Probably there is some worst movies but it depends to person who is seeing it.
I think that I watched that once but only because it was on the TV at the time I was near it. I usually check the news a few days after the ceremony.
2. What do you think about these types of events?
I do not care that much about movie news but the idea of giving awards for the best in their field is really crucial for everyone, who creates. And it for sure is an entertainment for the audience as well as for the nominees.
3. Do you think the level of nominated films is high? Are these movies worthy of your recommendation?
Usually, I do not agree with the results of the ceremony, but I am no expert in the aforementioned field. For sure, we can say, that all the nominated movies are worth the nomination and even if your favorite movie does not get the prize it is still fine, because it got publicized, what made the show more popular.
No, never I only watched some fragments or retransmission. I never watched the live broadcast.
2. What do you think about these types of events?
Nothing much, just rich people giving other rich people from the same industry recognition awards for making a lot of money for doing what they like.
3. Do you think the level of nominated films is high? Are these movies worthy of your recommendation?
Yes, I think that level of nominated films is high because ultimately, they chose them from the list of the best earning or shocking movies on the market. So far, I haven't seen “Joker” yet and I haven’t even heard about “Parasite” so it's hard for me to tell if they are worthy of my recommendation or not but when I look at the reviews then probably yes.
Yes, I'm watching the live broadcast every year for about 5 years. I am interested in cinematography, so I am very excited every time I watched it. Moreover I have a lot of friends whose are also interested in this type of events, so we are watching it together.
2. What do you think about these types of events?
As I said, I like these kind of events, but I think most of people would not enjoy it that much. It depends on how much we are interested in.
3. Do you think the level of nominated films is high? Are these movies worthy of your recommendation?
In my opinion the level is high this year. I was surprised few times, and I really enjoy watching the films which have won. The parasite is brilliant, what is more Oscars opens to the world.
the event is hypocritical. As for the awards - the actors deserve a very nice idea! What do I think about such events? For me they are boring
To be honest, no accusation film has interested me
Sometimes it seems to me that Actors who get oscar should not get it, but that's just my opinion
2. Probably not. The idea of spending time in such cold conditions sounds terrible to me. However if this training worked, it would be very beneficial, both for sanity and physical health.
No, I've never watched the Oscars live. Sometimes, I only watched snippets from the gala on my socials or read some articles about more interesting things
2
I have no opinion. I think that for people very interested in the world of movies this is an amazing event. For me as a kind of ignorant, it is a meeting of famous people and artists
3
I think so for many categories of movies. The way these movies are rated is more insightful than the average viewer's way. I watched "Parasite" last week and liked it a lot, but is it enough to deserve an Oscar? In my opinion, not necessarily
2. In general, this event has already formed a rich history and authority. And it’s no secret that people pay great attention to these awards. And the number of Oscars for this or that figure from the world of cinema is a very good indicator. But surely, many of us had the opposite effect when, after watching the movie, we realized that the film was overrated, and even perhaps received an award not entirely deservedly.
3. Definitely. As a rule, films with a very large scale are considered. And in general at this event films are considered whose marketing was very good.
The film industry is developing rapidly, and every film today takes a lot of resources and costs, first of all it is a lot of work. Therefore, we can say that each of the films nominated for an Oscar draws attention. And whether the audience will like it or not is another question.
No, I've never watched the Oscars. It has never been in the center of my attention. Usually, the next day, he receives information about the winners from the radio or media.
2.
I think that such events are important in every field. If someone is aware that he can get a prize for the effort and global recognition, I think such a person is trying harder. The gala and receiving the statuette is sometimes the culmination of many years of hard work, including actors, directors and screenwriters.
3.
I think it depends on many factors and above all on our taste. I am not a film critic and many films hailed as phenomenal and awarded with the statuette simply I didn't like, they didn't appeal to me. There are movies such as "Jocker" or "Slumdog" that amazed me. I have not seen this year's winner but since he received such recognition, it is probably worth a look.
Totally not! Actually I hardly ever watch movies to be honest. Usually I am doing it with my friends in the cinema as a social part of my life.
What do you think about these types of events?
I think it is worth to organize this kind of event because a lot of people are keen on ceremonies such this specific one. Moreover it is important to reward people that deserve for their work and devotion.
Do you think the level of nominated films is high? Are these movies worthy of your recommendation?
I don't opinion on that since I am not much into this topic. I haven't seen to many Oscar's movies.
2. To develop what I have already said, such events were and will always play a big role in lives of people, especially these who are closer to music, movies etc. On such events directors, producers and other people who take part in creating productions are graded by people with experience and people who expect more than 1.5h of entertainment. They analyse deeper parts of the movie and this is the way that director and his crew can compete on a higher level.
3. I would recommend every film that is listed in the article. I haven't heared any negative opinions about them and I also had pleasure to see them. However, I am not the one who is to say whether a level of nominated films is high or low - simply because I don't analyse deep details in them.
That's because hidden in these 12 words is a "secret signal" that fuels a man's instinct to love, admire and look after you with all his heart...

This instinct is so built-in to a man's mind that it will drive him to try better than before to make your relationship as strong as it can be.
As a matter of fact, fueling this mighty instinct is so essential to having the best ever relationship with your man that once you send your man one of the "Secret Signals"...

No, I haven't,but I have watched some recaps of the most interesting moments during the ceremony although I'm not really interested in cinematography.
What do you think about these types of events?
I don't find them particularly interesting, but if I had a chance I would definitely participate in such an event, because I think it might be a one in a lifetime experience to be near the rich and famous, who you only see in the movies.
Do you think the level of nominated films is high? Are these movies worthy of your recommendation?
To be honest I don't really know because I rarely watch any movies. Most of the Oscar-nominated movies I haven't seen, so I don't really know if they are good or bad.
