Week 5 [23.04-29.04.2018] - Zero waste life as a new trend

Have you ever wondered how much rubbish we produce in one year.
This makes me sick and the worst part is that we all take part in this process. Even if you try to recycle, it is still making trash because you throw away papers, plastic and glass , so you force other to transform this trash into other products that will be thrown away ,  but there is a solution ! And Lauren Singer is here to tell how .

Questions:

Would you be able to start this zero waste life right now ?
Will this idea become viral such as veganism now ?
Do you think companies will understand that they are the major culprit of trash production and will change their policy ?

Im pleased that I can use quote from Silicon Valley the series I like a lot.
"
Great London Horse Manure Crisis of 1894.
In the 1890s,the Industrial Revolution had people flocking to the city,
and more people equals more horses, and more horses equals more manure.
And it was predicted
that by the middle of the next century,
there would be nine feet of manure
covering the streets.
But what no one saw coming,
was a new technology
that would completely
obliterate those concerns.
The car.
Over night, the manure problem vanished.
And the Internet, as we currently know it,
is rife with, uh, identity theft,
and Spam and hacking.
So, it's manure,
and we believe that, in success,
our new, entirely de-centralized Internet,
will be just as significant as the car.
"
So my point is that people in general don't take into account the exponential speed of progress and can't really comprehend what future would look like and coursed to think about future in terms of present.

I agree but they need to learn this and spread it everywhere

Would you be able to start this zero waste life right now ?
I think right now I wouldn’t be able to make zero waste during my living. Which isn’t mean that I don’t agree with presenter. In my opinion it is nice idea to live that way and I will try to give more attention to waste I produce.
Will this idea become viral such as veganism now ?
I hope so, then this could make benefits for all of us.
Do you think companies will understand that they are the major culprit of trash production and will change their policy ?
Again I hope so. But in case of companies products in different package than plastic could be more expensive than they are now.

Would you be able to start this zero waste life right now ?
Of course not, mainly because it makes your life much harder and less comfortable. I know that’s a bit wrong thinking, but i don’t see any need to do this. People around the world are producing a lot of trash. The same problem is with the car exhaust. People don’t want to give up the facilities. We can only offer them something better to change their behaviour.

Will this idea become viral such as veganism now ?
In my opinion it won’t happen. I just can’t imagine a world as Lauren described.

Do you think companies will understand that they are the major culprit of trash production and will change their policy?
Companies aren’t created to take care of the world’s health, but to make money. They will follow trends and only change when people will force them to do it. Actually people want to have everything in the plastic bags, because it has longer shelf life, it doesn’t lose smell etc. The life with plastic bags is just easier.

After finishing this article everyone will just close the tab, and return to their habbits.

Will this idea become viral such as veganism now ?

Thats a matter of big companies that produce cheap electronic waste which lives shortly and is hard to repair

Do you think companies will understand that they are the major culprit of trash production and will change their policy ?

Thats up to you. If you keep choosing low price instead of high quality nothing will change

1. No chance. I do recycle however. I would also prefer more environment friendly packaging.
2. Probably not. It’s much more invasive than veganism. And in the end you still contribute to the waste production even if not directly.
3. Companies wont change their policies unless customers change theirs or governments issue proper regulations. Companies sell their products in the types of packaging that consumers are more likely to buy. They have to do it if they want to compete.

1. I believe that I will be able to start a zero waste live style right now, however, I’m not sure that I am convinced to start it.
2. I believe that this zero waste idea can become viral, but the same as vegans it’s not the majority of people that follow it. From my point of view, it will be a very good achievement if the majority of will at least sort garbage.
3. I’m sure that they knew it and also sure that they don’t change their policy or at least will be changing it only in case it will give them profits or will be obligatory (regulated by government). Some companies currently making “ECO” marketing strategies but I’m sure that making it to attract more customers. So I believe if all people will become “zero waste” consciousness than companies will adopt and also will follow zero waste lifestyle.

Sick topic to discuss. I want to say that nothing will be changed and i'm sure about it. Our generation is not able for doing it right now. And the thing is our mentality. I'm not saying, that it is bad, but certainly it's a kind of immature mind.
I don't know about veganism, but it will not happen. In my opinion, it's our problem, not company's problems. We create these companies and we are managing.
I would not be able to do so.Why? Because there is not much to support that lifestyle in our current society. Another reason there is too much i would need to change, and as we all know change is not easy especially changing 23 year old habits and so on.
It depends, i think that being viral is a bad thing . People need to choose this lifestyle to experience it fully not go by the "viral" trend and go back to their usual ways in a week or a month or just jumping to another viral lifestyle. Our lifestyles should be based on our identities not the other way.
but i think they know that already, they just cant really change due to their customers. What you would say as a customers if one day every single plastic bottle was changed into paper carton, or a glass one? At first you would be confused, then you would find out that glass ,carton packaging or "non plastic" packaging is suitable for certain activities, purposes how would u transport 6 pack of 1.5 litre glass bottles ? Heavy ? Fragile? What about 5l water tank ?

Also for me it would be hard to start zero waste life now especially when you have a child
Cecylia said…
Yeah that’s a pretty negative point of view but true about people nature , comfort.

I was thinking about people who would choose this lifestyle after they learned about it from the internet, that why a chose the word “viral” but to hope it will stay in people’s habits after.

I don't think so. It's so hard for me to change my lifestale, I'm comfortable with it as it is.

I don't think so. People are lazy, and they usualy do not want to change anything.

Maybe. It will cost them a lot of money, but it will be good for them, to look good in front of the people

1. I have to say that I won't be able to start this zero waste life. I prefer to pay money for companies which deal with rubbish instead of me. You said that we produce a lot of rubbish and I agree with you. I have never littering public places like forests or streets and I realy care about clean in places where I am and I think that it is point where we should start. We have to educate people that such behaviour is wrong but I think that such idea of " zero waste life" won't be popular.

2. I don't think that veganism is something what we should follow. I think that such lifestyle is more fashion than common.

3. I can't agree with you that companies are major culprit of trash production. They produce their product for customers. We want the best product as cheaply as possible and companies don't want to spent their money for eco friendly production.

Not at all. I think it requires lots of effort and time for you to start living " zero waste life". Also with all the advertisements, we have now everywhere (+ they are more and more directive to our habits and philosophy).
I don't think so. It won't become viral in the next ~ five years for sure
I think companies are aware of it, but when you rule a company, your role is to maximise company earnings, not to care about the environment or others. It changes when you grow, look at Apple and them presentations, since they started the program when you can sell your iPhone for a low price to them, they will utilise it for you - they mention it in every presentation, but I believe it's also to improve their look in client's eyes.

Transitioning over to a Zero-Waste lifestyle will take time and lots of habit changing, but it will be worth it because you are literally saving the planet and humankind everyday.
Start with one habit, and continue with it until you can do it without thinking anymore. Then pick another.
In my opinion, at the moment, companies are trying to produce the least harmful waste to the environment to reduce waste and to receive tax incentives and penalties.

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...
