Week 12 [12-18.06.2017] Sailing

Sailing
Have you ever tried to sail? Maybe you want to try? I’m 23 and I’ve never do that untill integration trip of our company. It was three days of incredible fun and experiences. But let’s start from the beginning. There were about 50 people so we had 9 yachts (about 5/6 people on the boat). We’ve set off from Giżycko and finished in Trygort. Everyday we were getting up about 9-10 a.m (it was so hard to wake up after great party in the port), swimming all day long and after 8-9 hours later we were returning  to the port to have a party. After this trip I’ve enrolled on the course to make a yacht skipper patent. I’ve learned at lot about yacht types, native rules, weather, etc. There are many kinds of yachts and I want to describe some of them.

The first I’ve ever sailed on was Sigma 600

It’s really small and so fast yacht. Sigma was invented and created  first time in 2011 and it’s became one of the most popular in 6 years. It has 6 meters long and about 8 meters long mast. In my opinion it’s the best boat for everyone who doesn’t pay attention to comfort details and just want to have great fun, because there is no any place to sleep or even cabin, just board and tackle.

The second proposition is Tango

This is a big brother of Sigma 600 and it’s kind of yachts that have approximately 12 metres long and have cabin with beds, little kitchen and table. The cabin can be occupied by 8 to 12 people but it depends on size of boat. Trust me, it’s really comfortable place to live :D.
There are lot of other types of yachts but those are most popular in my opinion. It’s important those yachts are designed to sail on lakes only.

Questions:
Have you ever tried to sail? If yes – how do you like it?
If you had to choose, what kind of yacht would you try at first?

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 9 [11.12 - 17.12.2017] Is Scientific Community Accepting of New Ideas?

We all want to believe that science is about pushing the boundaries of knowledge, breaking the status quo and persuading curious ideas, even if the majority of people find them unbelievable. But is it so? There are many cases of scientists who were disgraced and persecuted by the scientific community simply because their findings challenged the already existing beliefs. Humberto Maturana and Lynn Margulis Humberto Maturana is a prominent biologist who studied the examples of symbiosis between organisms: fungi that control the ants (there are farming ants that grow fungi for food) or the parasites that hijack the brains of snails. https://www.une.edu.au/__data/assets/image/0005/24791/leucochloridium-paradoxum.jpg Maturana wondered how is it possible that a symbiosis so complex as the one between a worm and a snail could ever take place? I t occurred it is actually a more general argument about the evolution. What comes first: the design or the applic...
