Week 2 (16-22.03) Kigurumi

Kigurumi

In Poland you can see people who dress in animal costumes on streets or at parties.
This fashion came to Europe and started to be more and more popular not only among teenagers but also among at adults.  Some people wear those costumes when going to work  in big companies to make their life a little happier and funny. So here they are – Kigurumi from Japan !

What is Kigurumi ?

Kigurumi is a Japanese name for the performer who is, most of the time, dressed up in an animal costume or as a cartoon character. You can find them at anime conventions or theme parks for example Disneyland. The whole Kigurumi fashion started from Animegao  which means “anime face”. The face should be fully covered by a mask which meant to look like a human character from a manga or an anime. After a while a lot of people started treating it like a hobby. Animegao was becoming more and more popular and  it spread out to other countries like America.  People started wearing  fancy costumes to perform at anime conventions on stage.

Disguised pajamas

With time people started to use kigurumi as a pajama because it is warm and really comfortable to sleep in. You can choose from animal outfits such as cats, rabbits , unicorns, pandas , dragons, owls and many more.  The most popular character is Pikachu from Pokemon.

Kigurumi fun

Kigurumi is a great cultural performer's costume or for regular people at parties. A South African rap group called Die Antwoord’s was the first band to wear them on stage. It popularized kigurmi and people loved it. Other celebrities like Rihanna, Cara Devingne or Rita Ora also wear them on stage.  In Poland, this kind of fashion just now started to grow. However, when you go for a walk ,for example in the Old Town in Warsaw, you can see people wearing this kind of costumes.

Question:
What do you think about it?
Would you like wearing something like that?
Would you like to go in such pajamas, to a party or to school ?

Kigurumi looks really cute, I must say. I wonder if this would be a sensation if someone would go to school dressed up like that. Personally I would want people to be able to go around the city dressed up in such colorful and creative style and be totally comfortable about it. I imagine a city in which all of it's citizens are Kigurumi.

This clothing brings a lot of attention and it's a great way to spice up a party or some other entertaining event.

I got curious if there is anything I would like to wear when going out with friends and to have fun at parties. I believe I would be able to find something suitable and yes I would definitely like to wear that!

Yeah it's a great idea to organise such a party in pajamas. Are you coming with me!?

I think that it might be cool to see people dressed up like that on the street or on a party, because it's colorful. But personally I'm really not into anime, manga and I don't think that this is my thing at all. I feel that this is a part of fascination with children(or women looking like children) in Japanese culture. I still feel strongly connected to a "child inside of me" (I still buy legos and do a lot of childish stuff) but I was never fond of women dressing up as children. However I think that I could go to a costume party dressed like that. But I kind of feel that only smaller girls would look good in that kind of outfit and I'm simply too tall ;).

Maybe I'm wrong because you said these costumes extremely comfortable but I don't feel like sleeping in something with a hood would be comfortable (when it's off, it's under your back, isn't it?). I also feel that it could be a struggle to take it off, if I would have to go to the bathroom at night while half awake. But maybe that's because I just never liked "whole body" pajamas and I would much rather sleep in a t-shirt ;)

In my own conceit adults wearing animal or cartoon costumes on the streets are infantile. For me this type of outfit is only suitable at home and it is an utter nonsense to wear it to work or to school. I think that it will not be popular in Poland or it will be treated only as cool attire. In my opinion Japanese people need this kind of trends because of overpopulation and unification. They need to be distinctive so they will not be anonymous in a big crowd.

I totally agree with the opinion of Dominika Suszek. It seems ridiculous for me to dress like that on a daily basis, I don't find it funny but simply childish. Okay, it's a good way to dress a child who's just about to go to the kindergarten but not for an adult wending towards work. I can understand wearing that costume on an thematic party or sth like this, it could be a lot of fun, but I've recently observed that people have generally a tendence to overdo the trends. When something is trendy, it just doesn't mean that we should wear it everywhere, on every circumstances, there should be some boundaries. We can sleep in such a costume, spend lazy day at home, but come on - there are some places that we just simply should hold on to the some rules. We're not children any more, get used to it!

The first thing that comes to my mind is similarity to one-piece clothing for little babies. I suppose I would be willing to buy something like that for a small child, since (in small size) it can look cute:

For adults... not so much. I would agree that this is the cheapest possible version of an animal costume, but selling it as a 'new fashion' (or going to work dressed like that) is for me, let's say, unbelievably crazy :D just like this:
http://www.hogwild.net/images/Misc/fashion-crazy/fashion-shoe-head.jpg

Instead of kigurumi:
http://kigurumi-shop.com/images/products/detail/foxkigurumiears.1.jpg

I would encourage people to wear better-looking outfits, like this one:

In my personal opinion the second costume is more pleasant to look at and it also brings colors to our everyday life. Wouldn't you agree? :)

I can tell you that in our school we will organize pajamas party for our students :D A lot of people from our school wear such a strange costumes but I agree it's really cute.
I completely agree with you. These cloths bring a lot of attention and they are really funny. Last weekend I was wearing my kiguru on the street and people smiled when they saw me.
Unknown said…
They are really comfortable to sleep, trust me on this. I forgot to take a sleeping bag with me for a trip, the night was really cold. At first I was wondering if this hoodie won't bother me but that pajama save my life and kept me warm :D.
It was warm and so comfortable that I slept very well. I think that for the my next trip I will definitely take it with me ;). I can agree with you on one problem with this pajamas which is going to the bathroom because you have to take everything off to do your “business”.

This fashion is getting slowly more popular in Poland so that's why I decided to write about it. People want to distinguish themselves from others. I think that it brings a little bit of joy in people’s lives when looking at someone dressed in a such fancy kiguru.
Unknown said…
I think that everyone has something of a child inside of him. It is obvious that in some places you shouldn’t wear kiguru. Everyone has a different taste of fashion and if someone doesn’t like kiguru that’s fine with me. If someone wants to wear it, I don’t mind but I think life looks a little brighter thanks to fancy and colorful clothes  Parents could wear them to make their children happy or to play with them.
Unknown said…
Awww … that Totoro pajama is so cute ! Kigurumi are not really cheap but paying more means you really want to buy an original, pretty well done pajama. I think that you can’t compare Kigurumi to nowadays fashion. For me it is something different.
Unknown said…
I think kigurumi costume is great to create image on the stage. For example Die Antwoord members wear it in the best possible way, just because they maintain a healthy distance from theirselves. Strange creations are suitable for their crazy, mocking music. The rest of celebrities in kigurumi makes me irritated, I just don't know why.
I have nothing against people who wears it on the streets, but I'll never be one of them, in my opinion halloween or theme party can be better place for kigurumi :)
Unknown said…
Exactly Tomek!!! I really do not understand people who try to be trendy no matter what. We live in Poland and here it is ridiculous and a bit pathetic to dress to work / school as a Pikachu…
Unknown said…
Die Antwoord was the first band to popularized Kigurumi in Europe and others countries. When I see others celebrities in those pajamas I wonder what animal will they choose :D I like looking at celebrities in kuguru but only Die Antwoord wears it really often.

In Poland we have differentia taste in fashion. In Japan wearing Kigurumi isn't something unusual.

“What do you think about it?”
I’ve never seen Kigurumi in Old Town, but it could be really funny to see it. Or maybe I’ve seen but automatically identified those people with regular workers who are supposed to entertain kids. Anyway, do people wear these costumes even when it’s cold outside, e.g. during winter?

“Would you like wearing something like that? Would you like to go in such pajamas, to a party or to school ?”
I can’t imagine myself going to school in any kind of pajama. But I don’t see any barriers to wear one of those and go to a party where it is mandatory. I’ve made a quick research and the crocodile is the best one.

What do I think about it? It is interesting part of Japan culture, but when I see in Warsaw people who are dressed Kigurumi I admire their bravery. In Japan it’s normal, but in Poland not. I wouldn’t like wearing something like that, because I’ll feel like costumed – not clothed. But if I invite to theme party e.g. pajamas I will not say no. But I debate why we don’t spread our native traditions? We have a lot of interesting habits like burning or drowning an effigy of Marzanna. This day is celebrate the end of winter and in the past believed that killing as a goddness of death will be remove the effects caused by winter.
It's the first time I've heard about this trend. It certainly is cute and colorful. It can be an interesting thing to wear at parties or as pyjamas - although if I saw someone dressed like that on the streets, I would probably mistake them for one of these people trying to advertise a business by wearing some animal's costume :)

Personally, I wouldn't like to dress like that on daily basis, but if someone wants to and has the opportunity - who am I to judge? :) It would be really amazing if people could wear whatever they want to and feel comfortable in, without being judged for it.
Unknown said…
I have mixed feelings about this - it's certainly positive, colorful, but looks quite childish too. I was a fan of anime and manga for some time so I can understand that some people might enjoy wearing colorful costumes. I could wear something like this to sleep, I imagine it must be quite comfortable. But wear it to work or school? I don't think so. That's too extreme for my tastes, but if others want to then why not. :) I would admire their courage.
I think that those costumes can be cute, especially on children or girls. However, people should not expect to be taken really seriously while wearing such costumes.
I think it's only natural that if a company CEO for example decides to wear a costume like that at work then he/she will be taken less seriously. If you want to talk serious business, make sure you don't look like a casual person in pajamas.
Also, I wouldn't like parents to force their kids to wear such costumes agains their will just to look 'cute'. Forcing someone to wear something that looks pajamas publicly is very humiliating in my opinion.

What do you think about it?
It's not even cute. It looks baggy, poorely made and cheap.

Would you like wearing something like that?
I have no idea, why would I like to wear it. What for?

Would you like to go in such pajamas, to a party or to school ?
If the theme of the party would include wearing baggy animal suits, surely why not.

I totally agree, also it is utter nonsene to wear it even at home. There is nothing pretty, cute or even esthetic about it. Those outfits are definetely not fancy. There are so many others interesting outfits to wear.
Unknown said…
What do you think about it?

I think it's very funny to wear such costumes to concerts, parties or events like that.
But I prefer replicas clothes more than kigurumi, when you can see every little detail of the idea and work, that were implicit into this thing. Such as e.g. replica costumes of a superhero.

Would you like wearing something like that?

Maybe just for fun :)

Would you like to go in such pajamas, to a party or to school ?

Well, mayde to a party, but not to school)
Unknown said…
For me it’s crazy idea - going in such pajamas to party or to school but I thinkt that some of these „outfits” are sweet, cute and I want to have some of these. I would like wearing this funny costume. I will use it when I have free, lazy day at home and for example to sleep. It’s a good solution for winter evening. I contemplate that these kind of pajamas are really cosy especially after hard work or cold day.
I totally agree with Tomasz Gelo and Dominika Suszek I think that kind of outfit is not suitable to go to work or school, unless yours place of work is kindergarten or circus. It might be nice in some kind of parties or for children. I think that it might be interesting and funny to go to the party where everyone is dressing like that, but normally I would never wear that kind of suit.

Kigurumi for me looks funny, strange but personally I`m not fan this kind of fashion. For me it looks like biscuit monster with some advertising. For me this kind of fashion is good to sleep but not to wear on some events. Personally I prefer to dress in my own style and I do not like to follow some larger trends. I don`think I go in kigurumi, to a party or to school.
Unknown said…
Like others people who have a negative attitude towards the Kigurumi. I think that it is infantile and frivolous. We can wear it when we are at home but seriously don't walk out in that kind of costume, everybody will perceive you as an immature person. If it's your hobby, don't treat this kind of clothes as normal outfit.

I'm some kind of a traditionalist and I believe that clothing performs a range of social and cultural functions. Clothing can be used to indicate social status. So imagine what people could think about you when you walked in the street in Kigurumi.

These costumes look pretty funny and I would happily go to a party in one of mentioned costumes. Certainly, it would be a great entertainment.

Person dressed as characters from fairy tales I always identify as those who are at work. This article reminded me that there are also people who are doing it for fun.

I think that people wearing this kind of costumes look funny. It is good to see something JUST funny, not mocking, unjust and harmful (unfortunately nowadays it is fashionable and cool to be judgemental). And kids in these costumes look absolutely adorable!

A couple of years ago I went skiing to France and I've spent New Year's Eve there. This is a popular place for skiers so there were people from around the world and they were celebrating New Year the whole day (e.g. Australians were celebrating at 2 p.m.!). I am mentioning this because this was the day I saw the most people wearing costumes in my whole life.

I would like to have a onesies pajamas, preferably looking like Snorlax (a Pokemon). I'm always cold and I think this may be a solution to my problem;) But I don't think I would wear it to school or to a party.
These people are definitely a lot of fun with kigurumi. Unfortunately is not fun for me, because I don’t like to draw attention to my person and depart from “normality”. I would have to be a little drunk to play in kigurumi. Pajamas – only for sleep  Generally it’s positive that people are crazy.
Unknown said…
I think it's just not my thing...
Unknown said…
Dominika, I agree with your opinion :) It's just not a thing that you can wear in the middle of the street :D I wouldn't also use it at home as well honestly :P
Julia Osiak said…
It's not something that I would wear 'to make my corporate life more interesting', but it looks fun for various occasions.I'm planning on buying one for next year's skiing trip. It's a pretty cool sight to see the whole Winnie the Pooh gang snowboard down the hill. That's pretty much the only time that I would wear it, also because for me onesies are just uncomfortable.
Michal Kulesza said…
It's really colorful but I wouldn't like to wear it. I think that going dressed like this to school might be considered as lack of respect to lecturers.

However it's still fun to watch guys running in such pyjamas /mostly pink panther?/ in the evening on the old town of Brugge in Belgium - there is gang of four and they're getting from one bar to another :) - probably some bachelor party.
Unknown said…
With friends we have plan to ski in such costumes next year... but besides of such events I'd never even think of wearing this outfit. I think it looks stupid. This can be stupid in a good way if whole party is organized with dress code and everybody is wearing some kind of pyjamas but for sure it's just stupid if you wear pyjamas at school or in the office.
Unknown said…
As I said everyone has a differen taste in fashon :)

Off course people wear those pajamas especially during winter ! People love to go to ski slope in Kigurumi. Those costumes are really warm and comfortable.

It made me laugh when I imagine our students in unicorn costume :D I think it is pretty cool to see it :D

I've seen this a few times, but never knew the name for the item. And it reminds me a little bit of mascots that you can see on some other events like in a supermarket or before a match. Honestly i prefer the latter costumes - they are more fluffy and if I were to ever wear one, I'd surely go for the fluffiness (especially if it's still cold in Poland 'cause they seem way warmer!).
Unknown said…
Maybe we don’t debate about those things because we know them very well and we want to show others something new ? I Dont say no to our native traditions but I would like to write something about new stuff.
Unknown said…
I totally agree with you. Opinions about this fashion are different but if someone would like to wear it I don’t see a problem. I don’t judge people for their fashion style.
Unknown said…
Well this kiguru at first was connected with manga and anime but now you don’t have to be a great fan to wear it. In Poland we have different mentally and some people will criticize this kind of fashion. Own kiguru and I totally love it to wear it at home or when I’m at some big events
Unknown said…
I never said that you have to wear those pajamas at work. I cannot imagine someone going to an important meeting in pajamas but if someone does office work or is a graphic designer and like this kind of wear – so why not ? If you don’t like it then you don’t have to wear it.
Unknown said…
People has a different taste in fashion. If you don’t like it then it is fine for me. As you said you can wear it for some kind of parties but I wouldn't like it to be forced by someone.
Unknown said…
Replica clothes look awesome and must be really great looking. I love detailed costumes but it must be so hard to make those.
Unknown said…
They are really cozy and warm :D You can choose from a different kind of animals that you can wear. This is really awesome. :D
Unknown said…
In some kindergardens people wear those pajamas to play with children and it works great  Children love it.
Unknown said…
When I saw kiguru for the first time I thought the same things but later I changed my mind and now i own one for sleeping.
Unknown said…
Nobody said you have to wear it on the street but if someone like it and feels good in those pajamas – why not. People wear stranger costumes every day and nobody judges them for that.
Mateusz Frycie said…
In Japan everybody loves fairy tales, cartoons, manga. I think that wearing animal costume is an activity reserved for theme parties, carnival etc. I personally would never go out looking like a pokemon or Sailor Moon, nevertheless I respect people who like such a lifestyle.
Unknown said…
Wearing Kigurumi is a really great fun! You can dress for what you want and nobody forces you to do it! I think that the more colorful the atmosphere is the better the fun is.
I'm not a fan of such costumes but also I don't see any harm in it if someone likes that kind of stuff.

I think it actually may be a pretty fun idea for a costume/sleep over party.
Even though we're adults it doesn't mean we can't have some fun even if it seems infantile.

Plus I think it would be really fun for parents with children to attend that kind of parties together.
Unknown said…
I saw a lot of people on ski slope too.Maybe if you are breave enough you can always try to wear it with more friends at a party. It can be really fun to wear something like that with more people around you
Unknown said…
I'm glad to hear that. If you don’t feel enough brave to wear it at parties you can try to sleep in it. They are really comfortable and warm. I used my Kigurumi on a trip when I forgot my sleeping bag and the night was really cold.
Unknown said…
Sorry to hear that. Everyone has a different point of view.

The whole Winnie the Pooh gang on the ski slope must have looked really funny :D I wish I could see it one day.

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...
