Week 7 [04-10.05.2020] “Nonsense” art

If you do art in any shape or form then perhaps you’ve already experienced a situation where your body crafted something on it’s own without you putting any thought into it. It’s actually a form of meditation and it’s very good for your mind. And if you’ve never experienced anything like that then hopefully this video will explain it to you! Here’s “The Automatic Drawing Technique” shared by the amazing artist Tim Gula!

Now, would you mind answering to some questions after watching this video? 1. Have you heard about this meditation technique before? If yes, did you try it? And if not, would you try it at all? 2. What other ways of meditating are known to you? Do you practice them? 3. Do you do any arts or crafts? Or perhaps you have another creative hobby?

I have never heard about this meditation technique before, it is astonishing as I did almost the same thing, so usually it happened when i talked with someone on the phone and was holding a pencil with a piece of paper in my hands and depicted something similar, I let my mind go freely and it was indeed a very nice feeling. I am impressed that this technique is well-known and practical. I think I will take a pile of paper, a pencil and will draw on a daily basis, hopefully it will reduce the pressure and stress which tense me.
2. What other ways of meditating are known to you? Do you practice them?
I know concentration meditation when you need to control your breath and repeat some word, so in this way you focus on a single thing, which might be very hard I believe and looks a bit strange if you observe how other do that. I have never practiced that, however I would be happy to try.
3. Do you do any arts or crafts? Or perhaps you have another creative hobby?
I like singing and I am doing this from my childhood, also I can draw, however it is rather copying from some pictures from the internet than my own imagination creation.

1. Have you heard about this meditation technique before? If yes, did you try it? And if not, would you try it at all?

I have never seen anyone describe this thing before but I have to admit that there is something to it. Creative block is something that has occured many times in my life and I know that there is no better solution to it than just doing anything. Don't think - just do. I will definately try this method next time I will have a pencil in my hand.

2. What other ways of meditating are known to you? Do you practice them?

There are many ways of meditating and different things work for different people. Sitting still in one place has never been a thing for me. I can't say that I've tried it regularly but I have never seen an effect or a reason to do it. The closest thing to meditation that I do is driving a car late at night. I know how it sounds but when it comes to relaxation nothing works for me bettter than a calm ride in the middle of the night.

3. Do you do any arts or crafts? Or perhaps you have another creative hobby?

I used to draw regularly but it doesn't happen to often nowadays. Most of my creative work relates to my school or job projects. However I like to create thing just for myself from time to time.
1. Have you heard about this meditation technique before? If yes, did you try it? And if not, would you try it at all?
I have heard about it. I have never really tried meditation, but it would be interesting to try it out sometime. People induce into themselves a lot of positive emotions by meditating and it relaxes our organisms a lot. I will try it tonight. Maybe it will help me with the next week exam .
2. What other ways of meditating are known to you? Do you practice them?
I don’t know any other ways of meditating, but my friend knows, so maybe I will ask her about it. She specialize herself in this type of things. Maybe she will also teach me how to do some basic forms of alternative meditation.
3. Do you do any arts or crafts? Or perhaps you have another creative hobby?
I develop video games. This is very creative hobby because you need to thing about the gameplay how to make it interesting and keep interesting after many hours of playing. You need to think about art style of the game and also soundtrack to make experience more complete. Also you need a lot of creativity when dealing with technical side of developing games

I haven't heard about it, and I most likely would not try this, as I am not into meditation at all
2. What other ways of meditating are known to you? Do you practice them?
No, like I said -- not into meditation at all. I guess, my mind is just too troubled
3. Do you do any arts or crafts? Or perhaps you have another creative hobby?
Sadly, no as well. I am a mathematician guy, not the artist type :(
I do admire art, however. Sometimes. Thought I am most certainly not an expert in it.

1.
Haven't heard about that technique before, but I did notice that drawing is a little bit meditative, where I could relax a bit and let and immerse myself in the practice.

2.
Vipasanna (concentration on breath and observing thoughts), Body-Scanning (observing how different parts of the body feel like), fire kasina (looking at a candle without closing the eyes and focusing the mind on the candle) , Metta Bhavana (Wishing compassion to ourselves and all people). Those are the ones I had contact with, I don't meditate however as much as I would like, because my mind is always racing and it's hard to convince it to sit still for a moment.

3.
Recently I've attended drawing classes for 1 year, but sadly don't have the time to draw anymore, also I experimented a little with making electronic music, particulary Ambient.

1. I've never heard of this meditation technique. I don't like drawing, it irritates me so I don't think this is the right technique for me.

2. I’ve heard that coloring pages relax, though I can't imagine it. I don’t know about other meditation techniques, I’ve never been interested in it and never tried to meditate. I don’t feel that at the moment I need meditation.

3. I hate drawing and coloring. One of my hobbies is sewing with the machine, recently I was able to sew kitchen gloves and a dress.
Wow! Actually the same thing happened to me - I was doing that meditation technique for a long time before I learnt what it actually is, ha ha! It's really cool though and I'm glad you're creating new art with this technique. :) And hey, nothing wrong with copying - it's actually one of the best methods to learn art! Good luck with it!
I'm glad that the video taught you about that technique, I admit that it also helps me a lot whenever I'm having an art block! I hope that you'll use it often and it will be of good use for you. :) Good luck! Also, your meditating technique sounds very interesting. I don't have a driving license yet but I drove some cars before and I know what kind of feelings you mean. And I'm glad to read that you're still doing some creations for yourself - these are the best!
Hey, I hope that you've tried that technique after all. If so, would you mind sharing the results with us? I'm super interested if it helped you. ;) And did your friend teach you any meditating methods after all? And I totally get you with developing video games, I think it's even harder than drawing in some aspects! Well, at least for me. :P I am also currently developing my own video game and I wish you good luck with your project! Hopefully I'll be able to play it soon. :D
Hey, meditation is not for everyone and I totally get it. Also being good at math is very impressive, even though it's not my hobby. :) And I don't know what would people do without any art in the world, I think we'd all be doomed, ha ha.
Oh wow, you mentioned some techniques which I've never heard about before! They seem pretty cool, I might as well try those! Especially Metta Bhavana sounds cool to me as I tend to focus on negative sides of life and this would definitely help me with lightening up the mood.
All righty, drawing is not for everyone and I get it. Sewing sounds like a really creative hobby and I envy that you can actually sew at all. Honestly, I was never able to learn it so hats off to you. :) Would be nice to see your creations!

Hey, thank you for the presentation, it was interesting for me :)
1. Have you heard about this meditation technique before? If yes, did you try it? And if not, would you try it at all?
To be honest I have never heard about this meditation technique before. I like drawing in my free time so yes, I can try it once. But if I would try this meditation I don`t think I could draw something so beautiful like the artist in the video.

2. What other ways of meditating are known to you? Do you practice them?
I know such type of meditation technique when you should focus on some object, it can be breathing or mantras. As for me, during the quarantine, I began to practice yoga and started doing meditation after training. And it benefited me. I feel easy and relaxed after meditations.

3. Do you do any arts or crafts? Or perhaps you have another creative hobby?
Yes, I do some arts or crafts. I am not an art or graphic design student, but I like to spend my free time doing such activities. For example, in addition to drawing, I also like to make origami or sculpt plasticine figures. But I would hardly want it to be my job.

1. Have you heard about this meditation technique before? If yes, did you try it? And if not, would you try it at all?

I've never heard of this meditation technique before. In my case, it's hard to do because I can't draw. I think I would be additionally nervous about drawing. And that would have a completely different effect. My friend once got a book to colour. In this book, you have to draw shapes that refer to mandala, although they deviate from their strict rules. But just like mandalas, they allow you to enter the world of wisdom, peace and quiet, create a specific space away from everyday life. They help to free the imagination and reflect the colours of one's own dreams.

2. What other ways of meditating are known to you? Do you practice them?

I don't meditate, to meditate you need to be a little more interested in this topic. It's best to reach for literature and talk to someone who uses meditation in his life. In my opinion, acting on your own is not beneficial in this case. Meditation can increase stress and cause neuroses and even severe mental illnesses. There are many contraindications for using meditation.

3. Do you do any arts or crafts? Or perhaps you have another creative hobby?

I'm brewing (and drinking) beer. I recommend it to everyone, great fun, you can meet interesting people, it additionally increases the attractiveness of a person, because many people want to listen to how to make beer.I'm a beginner, because I've only had two brews so far.
I'm super glad that you found it interesting! I was also super fascinated by this video when I first found it. :) And art takes lots of time so don't feel discouraged by not being able to immediately draw stuff like Tim Gula. And yoga sounds great! What are your favourite positions? I am also very impressed that you do sculpting and origami, I myself would love to learn those things.
Ah, yes, mandalas are also a very popular meditation technique. I used to practice it myself but now I just do the automatic drawing. And brewing sounds like a really interesting hobby! I'd love to hear more about your brewing techniques. Actually, my family makes wine but I can imagine than making wine is completely different from making beer. :)
I find that many people do the automatic drawing technique without realising what it is. And DIY sounds awesome! Do you have a plan for your next DIY after you're finished with the chair?

I didn't hear, so I didn't try, but I'd love to try. I think I must to try different things and this is one of them. Just different behaviors often confuse us to invent something. This something can be the essence of our life.

2. What other ways of meditating are known to you? Do you practice them?

Yoga is best known to me. I used to train yoga, but now I don't.

3. Do you do any arts or crafts? Or perhaps you have another creative hobby?

I don't have such a hobby. I also don't do arts or crafts. My hobby is fishing.
1 / Yes, I often heard about this technique of meditation ... I was in several classes. Drawing helps to enter a state of flow, a special mental state in which a person is fully concentrated and included in what he is doing. The people who draw will confirm that at this moment even thoughts flow differently, and sometimes the internal dialogue stops. Regardless of the presence of talent or education, the process of drawing itself benefits a person. Visual memory and fine motor skills improve, stress disappears, anxiety decreases. You involuntarily begin to look at things deeper, study objects comprehensively, the very perception of reality changes.

2 / For example, I really like the usual type of meditation, and dance meditation. Known as Kundalini meditation, this technique means exactly what is meant: you are dancing. The idea is to give up your ego and give way to the rhythm and flow of music. Dance meditation is a relatively simple and enjoyable way to release the tension accumulated in your body without having to take meditation too seriously (which turns most people away from this practice). This is a good means of self-knowledge, during which you can express yourself, change your state, feel the deepest emotions and stay in the present moment.

3 / Since I am an artist and designer, I am directly connected with this direction. And I like to introduce it in all my areas of life. This is my hobby and my job.
I really do hope you try out doing the Automatic Drawing technique. :) And yoga is great! What are your favourite positions? And also fishing is a great hobby, what's your biggest catch so far?

1. No, this is the first time I have heard of it and it really interested me. I’ll definitely try this technique to try to relax my mind and I’m really interested what I’ll see on the paper after that.
2. Other form of meditation for me is yoga, I try to practice it as much as possible and it really helps me to relax my mind and my body too.
3. I used to paint a little but now its hard for me to find time for that, other than that I’m planning to attempt ceramic workshop when it will be possible.
Wow, you provided some really interested information there and I'm super impressed by your knowledge about this topic. For how long have you been doing those classes now? And that dancing technique sounds truly magical! I need to try it. :o And I would love to see some of your work if that's possible.
I'm glad you'll try it! Good luck! And what are your favourite yoga positions? I also love yoga. :)

1. To be honest, sometimes I do this. Especially when I'm talking with someone I start to doodle some "nonsense". I didn't know it's a form of meditation, now I'll try to do it more often, maybe as a stress relief.

2. Other method, mentioned earlier is yoga. I tried it once of twice but I don't find it helpful

3. Unfortunately not any longer. I used to have bullet journal and tried to be creative in "productive" way but I lost intrest in doing it.
I have never heard about this technique. Sometime when I have some spare time, why not I could try it. What are other ways of meditating, I have no idea. If Your asking me, I rest and regenerate most while playing computer games. I can say that for me this is a kind of meditation. I’m not sure if I have any creative hobby. I would say that the most creative thing I do in my life is programming. Other then that I watch movies, play table top games, play on computer and things like this but they are not so much creative I guess.
1. Have you heard about this meditation technique before? If yes, did you try it? And if not, would you try it at all?

I've never heard of this as medicine but it worth trying out and i will consider this whenever I need to relax my mind.

2. What other ways of meditating are known to you? Do you practice them?

I can suggest doing sport or any other physical activity like cooking or even listen to music.

3. Do you do any arts or crafts? Or perhaps you have another creative hobby?

I can't really consider myself an artist or anything of that kind.
Have you heard about this meditation technique before? If yes, did you try it? And if not, would you try it at all?

No, I haven't. Yes, it kind of reminds me of these gibberish drawings which I was doing when I was a kid, and It felt somewhat right. Maybe I will try it.

What other ways of meditating are known to you? Do you practice them?

Breathing techniques and yes, I am practicing them. They are very relaxing.

Do you do any arts or crafts? Or perhaps you have another creative hobby?

I attend acting classes. Sadly it's on hold since this coronavirus pandemic. I enjoy them very much.
1. I have never heard of this meditation technique, I would like to try it but I'm afraid that I might get discouraged quickly

2. Closing eyes and repeating mantras is one of technique I have heard, I don't do it, but I prefer mindfulness

3. I don't think I have creative hobby, but I think it's original to be interested in tea -brewing culture and various stories

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr
