Week 2 [10.10 - 16.10.2016] Donald Trump - a controversial candidate for the President of the United States of America

Donald Trump - a controversial candidate for the President of the United States of America

Source: http://www.liberalamerica.org/2015/08/20/10-quotes-that-show-exactly-what-donald-trump-thinks-about-women/
As we all know, Donald John Trump has been nominated by the Republican Party for the President of the US in the 2016 election. To make the issue more contentious, privately he is one of the best known and most controversial American businessmen - a billionaire and real estate mogul (The Trump Organization). He can be definitely described as the very definition of the American success dream.

I will present some facts which serve to confirm this really controversial position of his.

Let's look back at the year 1980, when the Trump Tower was constructed. It had to be built very fast, so his company hired about 200 illegal Polish workers paying them 5$ per hour for backbreaking work — $5 per hour! 'Employees' were working without any hard hats and were sleeping at the site. To make this case even more unbelievable, Trump's company was paying them with a delay. When workers complained, they were intimidated by using the threat of displacing them back to Poland.

When it comes to lobbying, in 2000 Donald Trump broke the New York state law. He tried to prevent the opening of an Indian casino in Catskills City because he was afraid of an emerging competition for his casinos in Atlanta City. In result of lobbying, the court has imposed a penalty of $250 000 on him.

Moreover, Trump has spent $55,000 from his campaign budget to advertise and sell his book. The fact that the money was donated to him makes the case even more shady, especially that he took the money from the dividend back to his to his own account.

Shockingly, connections between him and mafias have been drawn hundreds of times. For a businessman with such an impact like Trump it seems to be imminent. In order to invest in and develop the casino sector, his company had to stay in let’s say “good relations” with many people - even with mafia members.

Can he do even better as far as controversy is concerned? Of course! Despite the fact that the law of the United States of America prohibits the American commercial investment in Cuba, there is some evidence which proves that Trump's company has been making deals there for 20 years.

At the end, I would like to present the most disgraceful quotes, according to me, of Trump’s speeches:
1.    “I think the only difference between me and the other candidates is that I’m more honest and my women are more beautiful.”
2.    “My fingers are long and beautiful, as, it has been well documented, are various other parts of my body.”
3.    “The beauty of me is that I’m very rich.”
4.    “You know, it really doesn’t matter what the media writes as long as you’ve got a young, and beautiful, piece of ass.”
5.    “My IQ is one of the highest — and you all know it! Please don’t feel so stupid or insecure; it’s not your fault.”
6.    “I’ve said if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.”
7.    “Robert Pattinson should not take back Kristen Stewart. She cheated on him like a dog & will do it again – just watch. He can do much better!”

Please feel free to present your opinion on this topic.

I don't have a strong opinion about that - I'm not into politics, and honestly situation in the US is my last concern. Nobody is perfect, and I'm pretty sure every politic done better or worse things in the past, very often on the edge of law, or even illegal. I'm yet to see a successful politician that is absolutely clear and managed to reach his/her position truly through the hard work and no connections whatsoever. I'm interested in the final results though.

Łukasz, thank you for your opinion. I understand that you aren't keen on politics. Moving back to your only interests - how do you bet the result?
In my opinion he acts this way to achieve certain goals. It's just a pose. He got bunch of specialist "behind his back" telling him what to do. It would be difficult for me to choose between D. Trump and H. Clinton.
Unknown said…
Yes, Trump is a very controversial candidate, and after what I have heard about him or read about his behaviour and everything his representing...I am really concerned about US. I mean, it's not that I am into politics that much, I'm more like curious about it, just like Łukasz said. But anyway, he doesn't inspire trust...Especially what he is saying and the way he is talking about many different subjects...He's just rather repellent than trustworthy. In my opinion good president shouldn't behave like he does. Quotes found at the end of the article show just a little fragments of his speeches but it is enough to make an opinion about him, about the way he thinks. For me it's really low. He's like a child sometimes. But we will see how this election is gonna end.
I'm not into politics that much, US politics specially, but I'm convinced it is impossible not to know, who Donald Trump is. He is definitely a controversial figure. Admittedly, Trump tries to pass for really plainspoken man, but for me it seems he doesn't care about anything but himself and his interests.

However, I have to admit that he has a nice voice, for a politician at least:

In my opinion Dolnald Trump is cotrovesial polititian and maybe this is why he succeeded. Even though his past isn't clear, today he is a candidate for US president. I think that Trump will win because he is oryginal and he has controversial views. He could be the first billionaire who will become the president of USA.

People tend to concentrate on Trumps controversial opinions, hypocrisy and tax frauds, but those things hardly matter for his voters. In fact, they kind of help him.

Trump isn't really trying to get the votes from the same regions as Clinton. Instead, he turned to the parts of USA that politicians try to ignore and forget about - the countrysides, places where most people haven't even seen a big city.

In their eyes a politicial like Clinton is just a foreign being, ruling over things they cannot comprehend. Trump, on the other hand, manages to deliver a simple message with each of his speeches, something people can understand and relate to. He certainly is rich, but in a good ("American") way, and his controversial/ignorant remarks are perceived as funny things people tend to say to each other in a bar. You could even say that being an asshole is a part of his charm, making him the Tony Stark of politics. In their eyes, Trump is a friend they know, while Clinton is an alien. That's his tactic, and it might get him to presidency.

Although one might say that Trump seems more concentrated on winning the campaign than actually displaying his ideas of ruling the country. I wouldn't be suprised if his only motivation of running in this race is just the fact that being a president is one of the only things he hasn't done yet.

Similar to Krzysiek, I'm not into US politics. Despite this, Trump is well-known person for me. Because of being a candidate for the President of the US as well as (as Damian says) being controversial.
It's not only about being the head of the US, but of the entire world. That's why everybody afraids of his winning. I agree with people who says that president (not only of the US) shouldn't behave like this. On the other hand, everybody says about negative side of Trump, what about Clinton? Is she better candidate? I'm not sure and fortunatelly it's not my decision.
I know one thing, regardless of the result, we - I mean Poland - will have to "fight" for our own place in foreign policy of the US, again.
Dajana Kubica said…
Unfortunately, I think the Americans found themselves in a similar situation to the Poles. Like us, they are forced to choose the lesser evil. I know that some may not agree with me, but this is my opinion. Trump scandals are now drawn the headlines, but I think it is worth reminding people about the grim past of Hillary Clinton.
Reading the news on the elections in America, I feel that I read the script soap opera.

I read on the internet that Trump is running for president because of bankruptcy, but I'm not sure of this information. Maybe some of you know more about it.
This US election is definitely the worst they had in years. None of the top 4 candidates should be considered a good leader for a global superpower. And now they're down to the guy that dooesn't know anything about foreign policy of his own country and the wife of a compulsive liar, who had an alleged war-criminal as his advisor (she also openly admitted that she will ask for his guidance).

Having all that said, the US are gonna be fine. Their economy is on a good road to complete recovery, which might change for the worse, but I don't think any of the candidates will ruin this country in the manner some people fear. It's not that easy to achieve, the president of the US has a lot of power, but it's the whole administration that makes the decisions.

I really liked Michał Wroński's take on Trump. It does seem that Donald might win just because of his more striking personality.
I' m not into politics especially into US politics. I think that Trump is very controversial person and had some weird behaviours and opinions. I have read some of his speeches and this is different from my way of thinking and doing.
Like someone said earlier US have big problem; similar like in Poland; they have to choose lesser evil. We will soon see what the future will bring us. Some people say that they will vote for ex. for Clinton only because of Trump and of course the other way also.
Unfortunately this might be true that he could win because his personality and things he do.
I think the elections are all about making fuss and making campaign that his good in marketing way.
It is all about convincing people that you are the best person for them to vote on (so like trying to sell product to people).
Good question Damian - I don't know. I think I'd prefer Clinton to win, but my brain thinks otherwise. Trump is my guess for now.

Choose lesser evile - that's the point. Controversial Trump vs Hillary Clinton who used a private server for her government email when she was secretary of State.
Unknown said…
Exactly! Republican critics say that she jeopardized national security.
Unknown said…
When you read his quotes for the first time they sound funny. But to be honest they're embarrassing.
Unknown said…
Krzysztof, nice video. This is the ONLY time I enjoyed watching Hillary!
Unknown said…
Filip that's the point. It doesn't matter who win, Polish citizen will still travel to the US with visa.
Unknown said…
That's right he has a very specific way for appearing in the media: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0BYqzdiuJc

In my opinion Amerika is doomed. There is no chance that US citizens will choose someone different than Trump or Clinton, as they are forced (by media) to belive that they have choice between "lesser evil", the same way as Polish citizens had year ago. On one hand they can choose self centered businessman who think money can buy everything, and on the other they have shady politician, who uses her public mail to handle cases of national security...
Piotr Basiński said…
If he wins the election, it may not be easy to come and work legally in the USA. Often he is talking about foreign policy, if he will change things connected with getting a visa, it would be a big problem for people who want to go permanently to the USA.
Unknown said…
Due to his words and recent actions I belive that if he will win the election it may be a problem also for people, who are already there.
Unknown said…
As long as I'm concerned people in U.S.A. has similar problem - Trump seems not be the best candidate, but Clinton neither. And now they have to pick lesser evil. Trump is really controversial, in my opinion he is a xenophobe and sexist. I belive that these traits shouldn't be combined with head of any country.
Unfortunately, scandals about Trumb covers informations about Clinton, for people who are not into politics, so I don't know much about her and I can't tell if she is better candidate than Trump. I only know that he isn't the best one.
I'm not really into US politics but I think people see that both candidates are bad and they either aren't going to vote or they will vote for Hilary just to make Trump lose.
Billionaire, sexist, former soldier. No, this time it is not Johnny Stark but Donald Trump, politics with is hated by everyone on web but with growing votes for him. Who can better lead the country than owner of a lot of corporation. Who know maybe he is cure for cancer called political correctness, sick health insurance and insane taxes for middle class (because progressive taxes).
Unknown said…
Usually I avoid discussing such topics, cause I'm not into it. I guess we'll never know the whole truth about what is really going on inside the U.S. politics. At first glance, comparing to other politicians, Trump seems to be too bizarre and antipathetic. His shocking manners and narcissism are annoying and not funny. The desire to name everything after himself is quite unhealthy and, in my humble opinion, indicates the psychological problems.
I don't know what are his intentions. The same with the other candidates, or the politicians in my country. Elections are always a lottery. However, judging a book by its cover, if I was american, I would not want Donald Trump to be my president. When people choose a person with such a reputation, it's not a very good sign.

The article is vastly unilateral. Trump represents truly the kind of stereopticon American we can see in the movies. He’s bold, perky and what he says to the public can make him look like a goof sometimes but at least he’s straightforward. About the Poles, It’s the problem of the system and ethics, what he saw was opportunity to take advantage. It’s funny how lobbing is still considered immoral, every single company from fortune’s top 500 to top 1000 is lobbing on a smaller or bigger scale. Lobbing it’s a part of American system from before gilded era.
At least Trump Is paying for his own campaign. Hillary supports women’s rights (it’s her biggest slogan), gay people and so on, yet she took 100 mln dollars from Saudis where we can all see what type of country it is.
I’d prefer honest goofy person than crooked sly one. I prefer candidate that took advantage over 200 Poles than supports Arab spring, wars and destabilization of many countries in the Middle East.

I'm not interested in USA politics. I'm a little bit political ignorant but in my opinion based on what is written here Donald Trump is too irresponsible for that he would be president. He reminds me a little of Janusz Palikot. Guy who has a lot of money who thinks that he can say and do what he wants.
Unknown said…
I'm not interested in politics, so far I didn't know what the person is Donald Trump but in my opinion he should not be in politics and above all he should not be the president but I think the controversy led him to success. Finally I would like to thank you for this presentation.

Exactly, you read this and after you finish laughing...you just think...THIS is the guy who want to be a president ? It will not speak for USA in a good way.

Trump seems like an insane guy. On the other hand I don't trust Clinton. But thinking deliberately Trump can be the one who exacerbate arms conflicts.

I am not really interested in US politics, however I try to keep track of pre-election time. It is very interesting and spectacular, especially comparing to other countries, for example Poland. I really like how candidates and their teams try to find the smallest flaw, mistake of opponent and use it against him.

Donald Trump is very controversial person, which some might love and some might hate. In my opinion, his way of being make it easy for Hillary to attack him and persuade people to vote for her. What's more, i think it is quite dangerous, to give codes to nuclear weapon to person, who is so quick-tempered and have so many controversial statements.

However, Hillary Clinton isn't as brilliant as many people think she is. Her health problems, scandal with leaked emails and many other things may cause people to think twice, whether Hillary will be good president.

In my opinion, for many people in USA, 2016 election will be not to choose the best candidate, but to choose lesser evil.

In my opinion Donald Trump is indeed a controversial businessman who suddenly becomomes one of the most important, supported and popular figures of the US politics. I have heard a couple of interviews, conversations and also both debates, and I must admit that he has quite a temper... Not only he seems to be very straight forward, his behaviour shows also lack of respect and proper manners while communicating to a specific ethnical group or person. He has shown a dozen of features which should not represent a president of such a great, powerful and key-player country, because it could lead to many inappropriate situations and lack of dyplomatic solutions, in relation with the foreign policy and politics with other countries.
He claims his advantage is that he is fairly new and fresh on the political stage in contrary to Hillary Clinton. However still, I cannot imagine him making the most influential decisions regarding foreign politics, since most of them require not only tough character, but the ability to look at problems with discipline and cold blood.
I share your opinion. Unfortunately, it seems that both candidates are just playing with people's feelings and emotions. Some say that this year's US presidential election offers the worst choice in 50 years. At this point, I wouldn't be able to decide who should get my vote.
Donald Trump is a person of which I do not know what to think. On the one hand - I like that he always says what he thinks - maybe it is not the best attribute for politician, they should always talk in "diplomatic" way, so it makes him very unusual in this world. On the other hand his beliefs are too strong for me and his actions sometimes are not clear.

You are granted Permanent Resident Card (commonly known as "green card") only for ten years, so those people may not get renewal of their cards, what could be quite problematic for them.

I have to agree with you. Many people in USA say, that they don't like any of those two candidates. Even if they are more into democrats, they don't want to vote for Hillary. Choosing lesser evil is not a good choice to be honest.

It could be very problematic as most of permanent residents have well organized lives, some stable job and family.
I have heard that this US president elections are the worst elections in long time.
Anyone they will choose, will not be good person for the president of the US.

When I was 16, Donald Trump was one of the role models to follow for me. I enjoyed watching youtube videos about his philosophy of life and he simmed for me to be a very charming and charismatical leader. His quote “Money was never a big motivation for me, except as a way to keep score. The real excitement is playing the game.” is helping me to be aware of a full joy of life and it’s non-materialistic values.
But this year I changed my point of view on his political and bussiness activities, but I still like his positive side of personality.
What shocked me the most - is the fact about undepayed Polish workers and a dirty way to manipulate them (using a threat of displacing them back to Poland). It’s obvious that he’ll use his bad tricks in future political games. And I don’t think that it’s a good long-term strategy - to trust Donald Trump.
He is a great public speaker, salesman and NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming) master. But come on, americans just can’t trust a person who have an idea of building a wall.

The increase of popularity of Donald Trump is yet very surprising, however not in a good way.
Not many know that his family real name is not Trump but Drumpf and that his grandfather was a gold prospector in Alaska.
And yet despite that his believes go far towards anti immigration politics.

Donald Trump is yet another example of world closing with people's believes on nationalist grounds despite the great opportunity they get to travel all around the world and work wherever they like to

I believe that Donald Trump is a Russian KGB agent. His view on Russia is very worrisome for Poles. I think that his main objective after possible win in the presidential election is to make a deal with Russians. It will be very dangerous to us, because in this possible deal we will be traded, as a country, for a "peace" with Putin. Right now, military tension between USA and Russian Federation is overwhelming. Russia wants to rise up oli price and to cancel building new military bases in proximity of their borders, ie in Poland. Their main "tool" that they usually use to do politics is a military force. They artificially create tension between them and the west to scare us, then they want to negotiate another disarmament process for something. The thing is that they will go bankrupt in the next year, because of very low oil price. They have to do something right now, otherwise they will fall. Hillary Clinton will not make a deal with Russians. it is obvious that Russians are afraid of her, last cyber attact on her email shows that clearly. And she will probably win. I'm very curious and afraid what Putin will then do.
Unknown said…
I have similar concerns as you. I'm very worried about Russia's actions and plans. So for me US president's view on Russia and international politics is more important than anything. I think US does a lot of thing that are very bad for the world and peace but we need their protection. Even if they protect us onlyu for their own intrests.
There is a lot of controversy surrounding this election and I'm really concerned how will it affect global strength distribution. What's really frustrating me is, how in all US media it is presented that there are only 2 candidates. Maybe if their system was different many wouldn't be worried about the future.

As for quotes placed in post: some of them sound to me like a joke. Whether it is appropriate for president candidate to joke like that or not, it's a different thing. I'm just pointing out that if we take seriously sentences that weren't meant to be taken this way some distortion in how the person saying is percieved.

Donald Trump is very controversial person. He is hated and satirized in the Internet. But manipulation in nowadays is really advanced. Of course Trump is not good candidate, but let’s think about past of H.Clinton. Definitively Americans are forced to choose lesser evil.

The problem of Donald Trump is that in addition of being a candidate for president of the United States, he is a recent politician. Previously, he was known only for being very rich entrepreneur and celebrity, and no one bothered him too much. But when he announced his candidacy and began to be more and more successful as a presidential candidate media began to rummage in his past and pay attention to every word he said. Which is completely understandable, because everybody should know whi can be come the most important person in the world. And the world saw who is real Donald Trump. The shock was great, but he still has chance for the presidency. Hillary Clinton sometimes with her behaviour helps him...

I don't know what else can be said about Trump. He's like an ugly, colorful, flashy product for Americans.

This GIF sums up my feelings about the whole campaign:

https://media.giphy.com/media/l0MYDfnEZQj1fx85y/giphy.gif

I actually had to stop for a second and think wheather or not this is photomontage, that's how silly the real thing is.

The newest season of South Park pokes fun at Trump and Hillary, which at this point doesn't seem that hard.
I can't say that I'm a fan of politics wheather it is our national matter or abroad. But I'm interested in USA in general so I try to read some articles to catch up and listen speeches of both candiates. And I have to say that I'm Team Hillary here. Although I understand why Donald Trump can be so strong candidate for American's society. Despite his misguided and controvential speeches he represent a few character traits that are wanted for future president of United States. He seemes to be strong man who will give a new lease of life for USA and most of the people really look forward to it. He knows how to get a point in the matters that American people are concerned with. He says what they want to hear and he should really thank for that his PR Manager because she/he does a great job here and for sure it is not easy. I cross my fingers for Hillary and hope she wins. I think she can manage to do much more than Trump for USA.

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
