Most of the people have some bad habits, which we want to drop off.
Sometimes we manage to deal with them, sometimes not, but there is always one thing, which remains the same. How hard it is to fight them.
I would like to ask you to watch this small video about how to deal with bad habits.
Here are my questions:
- What are your bad habits? How are you fighting with them?
- What do you think about this video?
- Will you use an idea, described in this video in your fight with bad habits?
Comments
2. I like that the speaker reminds us that we should use our brain in different ways. The brain is not only used to perform activities without thinking. By using the full potential of our mind, we are able to get rid of bad habits and acquire new ones - having a positive impact on our lives.
3. Yes, I will definitely try the presented method. Maybe it will be more effective than my previous ones.
2. Sadly I did not learn anything from it. It was rather boring, but maybe I am not interested in these kinds of topics.
3. I don't think I could apply this method to my bad habit, but I could show it to my friends who smoke.
2. It's good that he talk about using the power of our brain and how to use it's natural properties to facilitate a performance of tasks that we want to perform. Besides that he doesn't say anything new or groundbreaking
3. I don't think it's something that would be helpful in my case but I could use it somewhere else probably.
My biggest bad habit is waking up about 11:00 o'clock, it ruins my whole day I'm more sleepy than I was before going to bed. I know it's bad but I can't wake up sooner.
2. What do you think about this video?
I like the fact that we can do something about our bad habits, it shows that it's not impossible to get rid of them. Our brain is responsible for bad habits so we should use it to fight with them.
3. Will you use an idea, described in this video in your fight with bad habits?
Yes, I think I'll try to use this idea. It won't hurt and maybe it will work.
My worst habit is unhealthy eating. Unfortunately, I most often choose the products that I like the most, i.e. fast foodThe awareness of healthy eating is extremely important, which is why it is so important to teach children to eat fresh fruit and vegetables from an early age.
What do you think about this video?
Habits are extremely important when talking about healthy lifestyle. Many people try to lose weight or start excercising but they do not make things they do habits. They eat healthy but when they reach the weight or look they want, they immediately return to old, bad habits instead of creating new, better ones. And then they gain weight again. If you want to achieve something in your life you have to improve your habits and make them routine. It requires a lot of work and self-discipline but is definitely worth it.
When I played the video and saw that piece of cake I realized that this story will be about me:) I think my bad habbit is eating sweets, couldn`t live even one day without sweets. One more bad habbit is spending time on networking sites, if i hear a message notification I immediately pick up the phone and start replying.
What do you think about this video?
I believe that idea of this video is very interesting and might be practical, however I cannot see how it can be applicable to other bad habbits except for smoking.
Will you use an idea, described in this video in your fight with bad habits?
I like training my will. This way explained in the video might be useful for somone, however not for me I think. On my opinion there are a lot of other ways of how to get rid of bad habbits, the most important-your desire and will to do that.
What are your bad habits? How are you fighting with them?
Many. Not eating healthy, sleeping non regularly, not exercising.
What do you think about this video?
Nice video. Though overall I sometimes doubt about how helpful Ted talks really are. They are not systematic enough to follow them consistently.
Will you use an idea, described in this video in your fight with bad habits?
I will give it a try, I guess. But again: too hard to follow Ted advices due to the lack of systematiclessness.
1. Like any other, I have my habits. For example, I go to bed quite late, get up and eat at irregular times. I also put the homework assigned, work assignments at the last minute, and this is a fairly common case.
2. Overall, this cool video gives a lot of interesting information. However, on the other hand, I think it is a bit overrated and forcible.
3. I do not think so. I think I feel good about the habits I have and I don't want to change anything. Maybe in the future, who knows?
My bad habit is drinking alcohol and eating chips. I try to eat more healthy but there is always an addiction in my mind to eat at least small pack of chips. About alcohol now it is easier as i drink non alco beers and even wines.
2.What do you think about this video?
It is great I really enjoyed it. I wouldn't think of some thinks so forcible but still it makes the point.
3.Will you use an idea, described in this video in your fight with bad habits?
Rather not. I've got my own ideas of dealing with bad habits and I wouldn't change them
I think my bad habbit is checking everything several times. This cost much time. Before I go somewhere I need to check 5 to 10 times that I closed the door. This nerve me. I try to fight with that saying to me that I have done that and the door is closed. I need to focus on this action and that helps me.
2. What do you think about this video?
I think this video is very interesting. It shows us different point to fight with ours bad habits. It’s a difficult task. I didn’t know that conscious curiosity could help free us from bad habit.
3. Will you use an idea, described in this video in your fight with bad habits?
I think I will try. Any idea is worth to try and maybe will help free from bad habit.
I usually go about fighting with negative thinking by visualizing my bad habits, adding them to my plan, and working on them for a while before taking action. I believe that if I'm successful in getting my bad habits under control and reducing the frequency and severity of my negative thinking, then my intentions will become clearer and I'll be more motivated to start improving my habits and be more productive at work.
2. What do you think about this video?
The video shows us different point to fight with our bad habits. And I think that is a good start, because these are different activities for different people. I think it is a very good starting point because this is one of those cases where we need to get away from what we already know and try something new.
3. Will you use an idea, described in this video in your fight with bad habits?
Sure! It's a good exercise to see that idea in action. Hopefully, my fight with bad habits might help a few people get off that road. But if you have a habit that causes you so much stress and stress your lower back hurts or you can't sleep, you're going to have a hard time stopping.
2. I think it is insightful. I heard that mindfulness training can help people solve problems which have psychological background. It must feel good to be able to control your own mind.
3. Given that my previous attempts were unsuccessful, there is no harm in trying out the idea.
2. I expected the video to be a little bit more helpful? Presented method could work for somebody who just started to fight them but I find this useless in my case.
3. To be honest I tried it several times, but as I said, it doesn't work for me and I don't see the point in trying again.
2. I’ve seen this movie earlier and i read a book about this subject. I agree with it.
3. Sometimes i use it sometimes i don’t, it depends on how much motivated i am.
2 / The topic of this video and an interesting study, as well as the story of the presenter about this problem, will be interesting to those who are interested in this problem in a popular science format. If you have problems with this question then this video is a great talk about it.
3 / I have no problems with bad habits, so I’ll just advise this video to those who need advice.
A very philosophical question. Bad habits are a relative concept. Of course, there are things that are considered bad in public, but we personally don't consider them bad. Smoking or hashish in Egypt.
So yes, I have bad habits in my understanding. I try to fight them as best I can.
2. What do you think about this video?
Hmm, it's cool that it shows you how to fight your bad habits. Personally, however, I think a lot depends on people.
3. Will you use an idea, described in this video in your fight with bad habits?
We'll see, maybe it's not bad at all, or maybe it's bad. I always say, time will show life will verify.
One of my bad habits is going to bed quite late at night and therefore not getting enough sleep. I usually try to plan my day ahead and plan what time should I go to bed in order to get enough sleep, but it doesn't always work... Another bad habit is snacking. Whenever I open a bag of chips I always finish it before I know it! The only way I can fight it is not buying it in the first place.
2. What do you think about this video?
It was especially interesting to hear about how mindfulness helped some people quit smoking and how much more effective it was compared to a usual method. I never thought that a conscious thinking about a bad habit would help getting rid of it.
3. Will you use an idea, described in this video in your fight with bad habits?
I think it is a very interesting approach but I am not sure it could work with all bad habits. For instance, this method could help me with my snacking - maybe if I ask myself why do I want this bag of chips then I will not open it in the end. However, if I get to bed late at night because I had too much work then I guess just thinking about it won't help.
2. Quite good but not good enough. I would rather recommend reading the book ‘The power of habit’ written by Charles Duhigg.
3. I’m using these ideas and more. Definitely knowledge and awareness is the first step for constant change.
I spend too much time on my mobile phone. I tried some apps and managed to decrease time usage, however, I think that I still waste too much on it.
What do you think about this video?
It's interesting, I've seen some papers on the same subject too. The speaker was a little monotonic to me though.
Will you use an idea, described in this video in your fight with bad habits?
I think I used that technique, some time ago when I was smoking and I thought that I tried everything I tried this book about smoking - I don't remember the title, but it's this the most famous one about quitting smoking. The technique in this book was pretty much mindfullness, with focusing what's happening in yourself and the processess in your biology when smoking and when there are cravings. I didn't smoke for two months after that, and managed to quit later "normally", but who knows - maybe that mindfulness helped me.
I am trying to plan my day but still it does not help
2. I like this video, the thing this guy said sounds interesting. I like this kind of monologues because they motivate you.
3. I tried sometime to use this idea but it did not work for me but I think I found something useful on this video for me and I will definetelly try it again.
I have a lot of them unfortunately. One of the most annoying ones right now are eating unhealthy food and drinking soda. I'm trying to just stop myself from doing them and try to make myself like the other not that sweet things but its not going well.
What do you think about this video?
Video was really interesting and helpful. I will try to use this method for a while and see if it works for me. I even shared it with some of my friends that have the same problem.
I hope I will learn how to control it because it makes me sick when I think about all of the things that im doing just to relieve stress or get out of boredom because of course it does not work like that. It is making me happier for like 5-10 minutes but then I feel even worse.
My bad habits are sleeping late and not eating regularly. Sometimes I would spend the whole day without cooking a proper meal for myself. The way I try to fight them is by cooking something that I like or trying a new recipe. When it comes to sleeping late, I try to go to bed at a given time, turn the lights off and avoid using my phone until I finally manage to fall asleep.
2. What do you think about this video?
It was an interesting one and I learnt about training your mind/brain to fight against bad habits.
3.Will you use an idea, described in this video in your fight with bad habits?
I will train my brain in a way that I feel like I am giving myself a reward; this way it wouldn't feel draining or difficult to fight bad habits.
I have many bad habits, which I am trying to fight. For example, one of them is eating unhealthy, especially in the evening, I like to eat some chips or chocolate. I am trying not to do that and every time I am going to the fridge after that I am doing some exercises like pushups.
2. What do you think about this video?
I hate videos like this, I have seen it before and many other, it is just not my favorite topic to discuss about. I like to live with my habits.
3. Will you use an idea, described in this video in your fight with bad habits?
Probably yes, I have watched it and now I will use the knowledge gained from the film and find out is there a practical usage of it.
I am a smoker with long experience. I tried fighting with my addiction several times, but without any luck. Since November I am smoking less than ever in my adulthood, although when I'm after few I tend to grab a cigarette.
This video is interesting and insightful, I really liked how the speaker talked about how bad habits affect our brain.
I do not think that I will use his tips, I got myself sorted for now.
I have those days when I eat a lot of sweets and junk food. To get better I started practicing which also motivates me to take care about my diet.
2. What do you think about this video?
The video is pretty interesting, the topic of it even more. It is important to try to fight your bad habits altough sometimes it might get worse when someone tries to encourage you to do it. It might have opposite effect
3. Will you use an idea, described in this video in your fight with bad habits?
If I would have really bad habit and some serious problems because of it I probably would have tried that
2. I think that, like most of Ted's movies, the topic is very interesting and informative. You can talk a lot about it, but it is very difficult to put teaoria into practice. The process of fighting habits or addictions is very long and depends largely on our willingness and contribution of work and effort.
3. Of course. It is always worth trying to fight with bad habits. Maybe this time the result will be much better than the previous one.
Probably my worst habit related to sleeping, as I often sleep little in general. I’ve been trying to fight this for a long time and today I can do it more successfully. I think soon and will finally overcome this bad habit, since I began to create a schedule of the day and generally pay more attention to my health.
What do you think about this video?
In general, I liked this performance. I will most likely once again think in more detail what bad habits I have. In this regard, I will probably once again rewatch this video in order to be motivated to fight my bad habits.
Will you use an idea, described in this video in your fight with bad habits?
As I wrote earlier, it seems to me that this is at least a good motivation to deal with this. Most likely, if I talk to my friends on this topic, I will remember this video and advise them to watch this performance. Thanks!
I don't really have any bad habits. The ones I do have a little of, I keep in check and always try to be a better version of myself every day.
2. What do you think about this video?
There are many videos that talk about the power of our brain and how to use it's natural properties to encourage a change in the way we think and complete tasks. There is nothing new or groundbreaking in this video otherwise. There are other videos that are way more helpful on this subject.
3. Will you use an idea, described in this video in your fight with bad habits?
An idea is only an idea. When you are truly addicted to something you have to watch motivational videos daily to help with your progress. Perhaps use a calander as other posters have mentioned. Probably also use daily sticky notes and reminders that you are doing well and so that you can remember the advice. I don't really have any bad habits, but this is my advice to those who do.
I'm going to bed too late and it's very difficult to me to wake up early in the morning (fortunately my job allows it :) ). But, in my opinion, the worst my habit is procrastination. Last few month I feel too stressed to be productive as well as I used to be. With the problem of sleep schedule I'm trying to fight using notifications on my devices, such as "I time to go sleep". My favorite music helps me to fight the last one bad habit. It makes me more productive.
What do you think about this video?
I have already knew the information described in this video. It is called conditioned reflex, but we make it by ourselves.
Will you use an idea, described in this video in your fight with bad habits?
I have tried it, but for me it didn't work.
2. I like translating our habits to primary manners, however, the video wasn't very revealing.
3. I'm not sure if anything can be done with my bad habit. Ordinarily, I am productive and I'm able to deliver things on time, although once in a while I will procrastinate and I don't believe anything can help this.
2. It’s good video but I don’t think that the method presented in it will help everyone with their bad habit
3. As I already mentioned I actually did used this method not knowing that I did, it just came to me naturally one day that smoking didn’t bring me this kind of joy as it used to and one week later I stopped smoking daily.
Actually right now I don’t think that I have any truly bad habits. In the past I was almost addicted to drinking coffee, but as the time passed by, I realized that because of that I cannot sleep well at night, sometimes I even couldn’t sleep at all. So firstly i decided not to drink any coffe after 12 a.m., than 10 a.m. After that I switched coffee for yerba matte, which was surely better, but also gave me some troubles with sleeping. Now I am not drinking any of this beverages. And as for some method of fighting it, in my case it was strong will and realization of how it influences my everyday life.
2. What do you think about this video?
I think that this video was ok, but surely didn’t give me any knowledge which I didn’t have before. I heard about the method described in the video many years ago. I think that in the book called „Secret” we could find similar point of view as for dealing with bad habits and other fields of life. But it was nice hearing about power of our mind, it is always some kind of optimistic idea.
3. Will you use an idea, described in this video in your fight with bad habits?
I don’t think that I would use this idea. As I mentioned above, I’d rather search for pros and cons of my habits and then just decide wether I sould get rid of such habbit or not. I am not enitrely sure that analyzing, why I have these habit and keep telling myself that I should get rid of it, would do me any good. As opposite, thinking about negative influence it has on my life would be much more useful.
2. I think it is very interesting and can be helpful for some people. But I think I did not learn something new. I tried in many ways to deal with my bad habit and by now I know that talking to someone who has more knowledge about the problem than me helps a bit.
3. I sometime smoke a cigarette or two, it is not a big deal but maybe I could try dealing with this using the methods presented in the video.
