Week 7 [4.05 - 10.05] Learning new languages

I have been learning English language since elementary school, I have attended different English courses despite of the experience  my English needs to be improved. So learning languages is not easy for me, especially now when I am learning Polish. Since I know Russian, people think that learning Polish is not that hard. However  they are completely different. It’s easier for me to understand someone than to speak. The Polish language has a lot of hissing words that are difficult to pronounce.
There are plenty of courses where they promise that you can learn language in  half a year or even a month. I think they are not as effective and easy as it seems. I am wondering if there are some techniques how to learn languages faster.
So here I found Ted talks video of Lydia Machova "The secrets of learning new languages

What do you think about this video?
Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?
Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?

Comments

1. It’s quite interesting, however I still doubt that achieving so great learning performance is just a matter of four principles. She and her friends must have spent a lot of time learning those languages.

2. For most purposes English is enough, but it might not be very useful in some places, where learning English is not that popular. Also, sometimes it is required to know a specific language other than English, to get hired, so it all depends on what one plans to do. I think that foreign citizens who want to live here long term should learn Polish. You just can’t expect that everyone you meet here will speak English. Also, if you want to work somewhere, where you have contact with Polish client, you just have to speak Polish. I remember being served a couple of times by non-polish waitress who couldn’t speak Polish, which was extremely annoying in a Polish restaurant. Maybe I am exaggerating, but in the office and even if we work in an international team, speaking in a language other than Polish among colleagues in the open space, or kitchen is just not normal.

3. I don’t know, probably some Asian ones, like Mandarin, or Cantonese. Korean and Japan are said to be a little easier, but I’ve never tried any of them.

1. The film interested me. I have to agree with Lydia Machova, I made the biggest progress in language learning when I took matters into my own hands.. However, I can’t agree that everyone can become a polyglot, to become him language learning must be fun, and it doesn’t depend on the technique of learning.

2. I don't think any language should be distinguished - English is the same language as Arabic or Polish. If someone wants to learn languages, it's great but there should be a device that would translate the language online. I believe that people who come to a given country should speak at least a little of the language there. Once I had this situation - my neighbors in Poland were Austrians, they couldn’t understand why I didn’t know German (they lived in Poland for over five years and they didn’t want to learn Polish at all….).

3. In my opinion, the most difficult languages are Asian ones, learning the alphabet just scares me.
1. What do you think about this video?

I think it is interesting. In last days i decided to start learning spanish. I use phone application and after few days i saw some progress. As she said in video i think one of the most important thing is that to find a few minutes everyday. I think i am polyglot because i know a lot of languages for example Java, C#, C++. ;)

2. Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?

Not for me thats why i started to learn spanish few days ago. I was also learning germany in high school but i didnt like it and all what i can say is "ich habe durchfall". It depends about person's interests. If they like polish culture then maybe they will choose this language.

3. Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?

I think speaking is not a big problem but probably if you want learn how to write in Japanese or Russian it can be a problem because there is a lot of new signs.

1. I agree on the principles set out by the speaker. I myself am a victim of the educational system and after several years of learning English I know how far to perfection I am. However, as an adult, I notice different ways that help me acquire new knowledge in a much more pleasant way.
2. I think it is good to know English at a very high level. There aren't many job offers that also require other languages. However, if you have the time and desire, you can also learn other languages that you can use when traveling or to make new friends.
I don't expect this from foreigners. But living in a foreign country is certainly easier when you know the language of its citizens.
3. Of the languages I learned, it was certainly German. Nevertheless, Asian languages are considered as one of the most difficult but I have never been interested in learning them.
Answering your questions:

1. I mostly agree with the speaker, but it's easier said than done. Evidently she had to spend a lot of time abroad and talk a lot in English.

2. I believe that English is now sufficient to communicate with others around the world. As for the second part of the question - why would foreigners learn Polish? For what purpose?

3. Definitely French! Check this out: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?ref=saved&v=594627338067865
I think this movie is even ok because viewers can learn foreign languages better with it. I think that to learn a foreign language you just need to communicate. In addition, mothers need inventions, so if someone needs a foreign language, they will learn it. I think that in our time it is good to know English, because thanks to it we can get along with almost everyone. I do not think that other nationalities should be obliged to learn Polish; English should be sufficient. In my opinion, the most difficult language to learn is Chinese or Japanese, because I am terrified by the number of letters to learn, although I have heard that it is not that difficult.
1. I really enjoyed watching it. It gave me some other ideas about learning languages which could change the way I did it before. Somehow it also confirmed my feeling about doing English course using this blog - I like it because I benefit from it. The thing is that I don't repeat boring stuff, but watch interesting videos like this and eventually learn much more.

2. I think everybody should know English now and that would be enough. If a foreign citizen is going to stay in Poland I think he should consider learning it. If he is not sure about it and has no need, English should be enough for him.

3. For me it is Turkish. Many languages tell you something when you look at the words, even if you have completely no knowledge about this language. If you listen to somebody, you can understand something. But Turkish is some sort of magic for me. I can't understand any single word when people use it!

1. What do you think about this video?
It is a good one, I really like her accent. It is not a rocket science, but still nice that someone does it.
2. Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?
No, it is never enough to know only one language. Learning a new language is like learning a new way of thinking, because every single one is so different that it changes the way you think. It really helps expend your horizon futher and further with each set of words in other language you get to know. And we always should move forward never stay in place.
3. Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?
In my opinion the languages where writing differ to much from Polish or Russian alphabet, like chinaese or japanese. In speaking they are fine, but writing anything or reading is just a tough thing to do.

What do you think about this video?

It actually bored me a bit, as for me, there is nothing cutting-edge about this video. It may be because I have an amazing French-Spanish teacher, that told me all about this. She taught me, that it’s stupid to count years you’ve been learning something new, as you don’t study this subject every single hour of every day. Instead, she taught me to count actual hours spent on developing the new skill. It may be also because I am quite aware of my learning abilities and preferences, so her tips were not surprising. At the end of the day it all boils down to our ambitions, whether we want to truly learn something new or not (not only languages).

Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?

No, I don’t. I think that learning new languages not only helps you communicate with others but also stimulates your brain, helps you remember things and allows your brain to think in a more multi-tasking way. I do think learning new language can be fun and developing. I also think that if you decide to live in a foreign country for a longer period of time you should learn the language of that country.

Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?

I don’t know. It’s hard to tell, when you haven’t heard all the languages in the world ;) But I think that Japanese can be quite challenging, as it requires totally different approach. It seems a bit harder, as there is no “typical” alphabet, rules, grammatic and style of the language is completely different than ours.

What do you think about this video?

I believe that learning a language is about constant repetition. I don't think these four rules are enough.

Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?

People who will contact customers and contractors, go on business trips or even serve a customer on the phone, require knowledge of more than one language. English is sufficient for me to read the documentation. I will need English as a standard working tool, a tool to gain further knowledge, not something that I will have to demonstrate to others. Knowledge of English, at least to a communicative degree, is nowadays required in virtually all international companies and those that have contact with foreign clients or documentation. In Poland there are also more and more SSC and BPO companies that are responsible for selected processes in parent companies or external companies scattered around the world. For example, Poles working in the office in Gdansk provide customer service from Hungary or book documents from the Czech Republic. In such a case, the knowledge of more than one language is of great importance. Often in such companies foreigners who do not know Polish are not familiar with it.

Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?

In my opinion, the most difficult language is Chinese, Korean or Japanese.
The video is interesting and motivating I saw it before. Yes I think that these days English is considered as the language of the world so it is sufficient for me. No, in my opinion they should not learn Polish language, I do not see any reason for that. Most people in Poland have English since elementary school and they can speak enough to communicate with people from abroad.
The most difficult language for me is German. This is the only language which I have been learning since junior high school and I learned almost nothing. Maybe because learning languages has always been difficult for me, or maybe because this language is weird.

What do you think about this video?
This video was very interesting for me. I am convinced that everything what this lady is talking about is true as I can judge from my own experience. Only when I started corresponding with pen pals I managed to improve a language and that was the best way for me. She is right that everyone should fine his own method and apply it to everyday life.
Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?
I have many friends who came from different countries and cannot speak Polish, which makes their life in this country uncomfortable, they need to hire translators when there are any issues with public offices or some issues with mantaining household (even simply to arrange plumber to come to fix anything). Thus, I think it is worth to learn Polish if you plan to stay in this country, generally this relates to any country you plan to move to.
Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?
I suppose this is Chinese, I have many Chinese friends and our friendship is already 4 years long and I cannot say anything except for hello and how are you:) The problem is with how I pronounce the words, intonation plays a key role in speaking, thus don`t even try to learn:)
Thank you for response. I agree with your opinion about knowledge of the Polish language when you work with Polish clients. However when you work in an international team speaking in common language is more respectful to others non polish speakers. I would feel myself out of team if my colleagues would do that.
Thank you for response. I am totally agree with your opinion about the video. It depends on person interests. If he is interested then probably he can be a polyglot.
The thing that I like in Poland, that my Polish friends always help me with learning their language. Moreover they always speak to me in English, even if they do not know language good. I appreciate that.
The same thing happened to me, I decided to learn new language during isolation time, but I had done it fr 3 days and then I just gave up.
Yeah I agree with you. I think communication in one language brings people together.
As far as foreign citizens are in Poland, I think learning their language and culture is showing respectation. When foreing citizen knows my language or culture I really appreciate that.

Hahaha, true

What do you think about this video?
Nice video. But as any other Ted vid, nit systematic enough with no concrete guidelines.
Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?
My take is that it depends on whether you are planning to get involved into the country. If you are here for a job, or temporary activity/other gig, it is perfectly fine to stick ti English and request interpreters if needed. However, if you are planning to stay long, buy properties and live here, then by refusing to learn local language you are showing disrespect to the country.
Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?
No idea. Many say that Mandarin is the most difficult.
1. What do you think about this video?
I think everyone of us can learn something from this video. Learning foreign languages is not an easy task. Many people have problem with some languages. In this video we can see that a good method can do miracle. I remember that my first foreign language was german. When I was kid I watched an anime films a lot. I don't know when I began understand german dialogs. After some time I understood everything what people say in TV. It was amazing. I never had german in elementary school but thanks to tv I could speek german perfectly and create proper sentences. In elementary school I learned english but my teacher was a bad teacher. After elementary school I couldn't properly speek, write and read in english.

2. Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?
I think we need to know more languages than just English. Knowing more languages can help us understood a huge amount of text written in different languages. When we know another languages then we can buy books, newspapers in this languages and read them. I think foreign citizens should learn Polish for better communication with us and learning our history. We also should learn standard words in foreign languages when we travel to another country.

3. Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?
I think the most difficult to learn language is Japanese. This language have many signs that have many meanings. Write Japanese signs is not an easy task.
What do you think about this video?
I really enjoy TED talks and everyone of them always have very good quality. This one is no different.
Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?
Depends. I would like to know third language but I didn't found any of them usefull for me for a longer duration. If a foreign citizen plans to spend some years in our contry it's a good idea to learn polish.
Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?
Japanese. As I remember polish is third in the ranking of difficulties.

1. What do you think about this video?

First, I realised that it is the language that the learner creates. That being said, language acquisition can be entirely motivated by a positive attitude. A lot of languages are needed to build social bonds, which if you have the right mindset will help you learn a new language. If you want to learn more languages, I suggest you work on your typing speed so that you will be able to sign-on with others when required

2. Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?

It is always helpful to learn the language of the country you are in. The culture, vernacular and customs of the country is almost completely different from one country to another. In other words, learning an entirely new language is nearly impossible to achieve without a good amount of practice.

3. Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?

In my opinion, Polish is the hardest language to learn I'd say. I can only imagine how hard it is for foreigners to learn so many words variations. It is high in the rank of most difficult languages to learn on earth.

1. The video is quite generic. As the speaker points out, there is no single best way to learn languages. The important thing is to make the process as enjoyable as possible to not get discouraged too quickly, since learning a new language can be a really time consuming process.

2. Basic knowledge of a local language can be a great suplement to your English skills. Polish is spoken by too few people in the world to be considered a useful language to know. However, it is still worth having a decent command of the language if you’re a foreigner planning to settle down in Poland.

3. Mandarin seems difficult to me because of the different alphabet. How you stress syllables also matters more than in any other language I know.
What do you think about this video?
I think this video was very inspirational. I dont really like the word 'inspirational' but the way the lady on the video talks about finding own way of learning new lenguage and not giving simple answers is prety nice to hear.

Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?
Its good that we can have one language that is more or less universal. But also many people in the world speak for example spanish. In generall beeing able to speak many different languages can be beneficial in life. We should speak more than one. Its not a must. For many polish can be very difficult to learn and we shouldnt except foreigners to speak it. But for sure we will apreciate when sombody will.

Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?
Nordic languages seems to be kind of difficult like finish or sweedish
1. I think this woman may be right. When I was a child I didn't have cartoon network in polish but in german. When i went to school and german lessons started i already knew what words mean without learning them.
2. English is the must have language and i think people should learn more than english. I think they shouldn’t learn polish because it is one the hardest languages to learn and the are not many benefits of it.
3. In my opinion chinese polish hungarian are the most difficult languages to learn.

1. This video is like most videos about learning anything new - "There's no one simple way to learn it, but when you enjoy the process it'll be easier." Like, oh my, for real? I had no clue that learning something i really want to know/do and having good time while doing so, could help me in achieving my goal faster/easier!

2. It depends on lifestyle I guess? For somebody who like travelling or maybe works abroad, knowing English is not enough - it's always easier to speak in local language. And yes, I think foreign citizens should at least know basics.

3. I've heard that polish is one of the most difficult to learn. Both in speaking and writing. I think that we are not aware how hard our language is.

1. What do you think about this video?

I found it very interesting, especially the part about the different methods that the polyglots use to learn new languages. I would never think of fixing up a conversation in Russian between two strangers, it sounds like a really funny and strange way to learn a new language! Also, I noticed that both the main speaker and Lucas whom she talked about, knew Polish language. It was quite surprising, I think I don't know anyone who would actually voluntarily choose to learn Polish - it's really difficult!

2. Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?

I think the more languages you speak the better, but it takes a lot of time and consistency to arrive to a certain level of fluency. I guess for some people English is enough to do their job and travel, but it is definitely more fun to go to a foreign country and be able to stike up a conversation with a local. When it comes to foreign citizens in Poland, I think it really depends on which city they live in and whether they want to stay here forever. For exemple, in Warsaw in most places English in enough to get by every day, but in cities like Olsztyn or Szczecin I can imagine that everyday life is much harder for those who cannot communicate in Polish.

3. Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?

I have never tried learning it, but I heard many times that Mandarin is extremely difficult to learn. Languages are not really my speciality so I would definitely have some problems if `I were to take it up!
1 / An interactive study as well as the subject matter of this video as well as the conduct of a charismatic presenter. Most people in the Western world learn a foreign language at some point in their lives, but if you have never had to learn another language, you may wonder why it is such an important foreign language. If you are wondering this question then this video perfectly tells what's what.

2 / Why is foreign language so important? One in five people in the world speaks, or at least understands English. There are 400 million native speakers of this language on the planet, and English is official or one of the main languages of communication in more than 50 countries. While Chinese, Spanish, French, Russian and German can also boast a large number of speakers, and the importance of these languages has grown in recent decades, there is a good reason to learn different languages. It is the language that remains the least common multiple for people who meet and work together in different parts of the world.

3 / For me, the most difficult languages are languages in which hieroglyphs are present, but I also know that one of the difficult languages is languages with an alphabetic Cyrillic alphabet.

1. What do you think about this video?

Each person has a different reason to learn the language of a different nationality. Once, in the olden days, due to the political system, we learned Russian. Then thaw English and German. Today everyone is learning the language they want. He learns for other reasons. The lady on the video is right - find a reason and learn a language.

2. Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?

Nowadays, everyone knows English to a better or worse degree. You can hear it at the job interview. Should foreigners learn Polish? In my opinion everyone going to another country should try to use "local" language. When I go to Great Britain I speak English, but when my brother in low (British) comes to me, I speak Polish to him :-D.

3. Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?

Apparently, the most difficult to learn is Polish. Then Chinese. But why? It's such a nice language.
What do you think about this video?
Wow. The video impressed me very much. At first, I was very sceptic to it. Most of the videos posted on this blog are low quality in terms of practical information that you can use in real life, but this video for sure isn’t that. I am impressed that you can learn language the simply by reading you favorite book. Unfortunately, my favorite author doesn’t have any translations to foreign languages, so it is harder to use this technic.
Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?
If foreign citizens leave and work in Poland or any other country, they certainly should learn the native language. If this is not the case than English is enough.
Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?
I don’t know which languages are hard to learn since I learned only English and German. But if I were take a guess I will say one of the Asian languages like Mongolian could be hard to learn.
Hello, here are my answers to your questions.

1. I quite liked this video, however I learned nothing new from it. I have watched plenty of similiar materials over years, and this one was different, but not different enough and it did not cover anything, I didn't already know.

2. Depends. Knowing only your native language and English should be enough, if you don't plan on moving out to non-English speaking countries. If you do plan on doing so however, I believe it is neccessary to learn atleast basics of different language, as English will not always cut it. As such, to answer the second part of the question, in my opinion foreign citiziens, if they're planning on staying in Poland for longer, should start learning Polish language.

3. To really answer this question, I would have to attempt to learn every language in the world, and I'm not planning on doing that. For now, the most difficult language I tried to learn is Japanesse, as it's completely different from European languages.

What do you think about this video?

I really enjoyed it. I like watching and listening to people talking foreign languages. Of course, it requires a lot of time and dedication to learn them, but if you learn a language from one family, it’s easier for you to grasp and master another one as many words are the same or very similar. Same thing may go with the grammar.

Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?

I think that to survive English is sufficient as everybody speaks that language right now. But I can see that many employers start looking for multi-lingual candidates who speak other languages as well. When it comes to Polish, it’s one of the hardest languages to master. Of course, if they want to learn and understand our culture, they should but I think it’s easier for us Poles, to learn a ubiquitous language which is English than the other way around.

Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?

I think that Asian languages like Chinese, Korean or Japanese are brainteasers. The alphabet is difficult and there are many intonations that you need to learn about. They are used in many different situations and if you use a wrong one, a person that you are talking to might feel offended.

1. Interesting. I wish my teachers from primary and high school would see it 😊
2. It’s not enough. Knowing English is an old principle. Now it’s much better to know English and Chinese. Or even German. If you would as me about knowing the foreign language- it’s always good to know a few words in a language which country we would like to visit 😊
3. Chinese as learning it takes about 2 years of assuming that we are exercising about 10h per week.

1.It's an interesting video, some methods presented in it were new for me and quite surprising.

2.I think it's always good to learn more than one language, I can't imagine knowing only English. I don't really speak fluently in any other language, but I do know German quite a bit and I could probably have a conversation with someone in Russia. But I do want to learn some more once I have more time. It's always good to know some basic words in different languages - especially when you want to travel.
I don't think people should take their time to learn Polish, it's a hard language and not really necessary to know. If someone is coming to Poland for a trip or vacation, then it's good to know some words to get along. People are always more friendly if you can even say 'hi' in their language.

3.I think some asian languages can be quite difficult - they are complicated to learn both in speaking and writing.
What do you think about this video?

Very interesting! Maybe I will copy her method of watching favorite TV Show in German or another language. However, I think that it sounded a little bit magical, and it's still is a lot of commitment to do so, and I always found that as the hardest part of learning anything.

Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?

I think that in practical terms knowing only English is sufficient. On the other hand, knowing more languages gives you more depth to the personality, since there are a lot of cultural things hidden within the languages. Speaking with natives in their languages gives you also extra points in their eyes, so that's another thing.

Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?

I think that the Chinese language is the hardest one. I used to learn Japanese, and the Kanji was killing me - and in Chinese, it's even more, so I think that it would be even more difficult.

1. The video was really interesting and motivational. I always thought that I was really bad at learning new languages but I always wanted to speak at least 3 of them. I learned english language and I think I'm fluent with it right not but it was only because I was taking tutorials and watching a lot of videos in english. Then I learned a little bit of French in school but forgot almost everything, same with Russian but I think I will come back to it soon after watching this video. It helped me to realize that I don't particulary need to buy a book and do a lot of exercises but experiment with a language.

2. Right now I think English is enough. There is a lot of people speaking English and almost everything is translated into English. Of course there is some exceptions but there is not that many of them.

3. For me as I already know Polish language, the hardest to learn is Japanese and Chinese language and maybe some weird Arabic language that I don't really know how is called (there is a lot of different ones based on the region that it is used in). But if I weren't from Poland I think I would think it is definitely the most difficult language to master.
1. What do you think about this video?
I like it so much. I recommend everyone to see it. Basically I have known everything what was explained in the video and I find it a good "know-how" to learn languages. Also I admire the skills of the presenter, her knowledge is huge.

2. Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?
I think it is a hard question. In my opinion it is enough to know English if you want to not have a problem with contact, because it is the most common and popular one. Moreover I think it is obligatory to know English. On the other hand it is good to know more languages than one. Answering to the second question, definitely not.

3. Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?
I think the Chinese is hard to learn, some others not indo-european languages
1.What do you think about this video?
It was an interesting video, she talks about different ways of learning new languages and how to make it fun, create a system or structure and also be patient throughout the whole process
2.Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?
I believe it's fairly enough to know English if you don't plan to travel or meet people from different countries. But learning another language or two gives you more opportunities and can open doors for you. Foreign citizens should try to learn basic Polish because in some institutions it's not easy to get the service when you don't speak polish or when you need to fill some documents only available in Polish.

3.Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?
I consider Chinese as one of the most difficult one to learn because it's not written with the same characters. It requires you to learn Chinese characters, draw them, pronounce them and so on.

1. What do you think about this video?
It is very interesting and the topic is something worth discussing. It is important to learn new things and languages are probably one of the most important thing if you want to learn other cultures fully, communicate to people from other countries (in their native language it is better) or even fulfill a carrer in business.
2. Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?
It depends. If you don't want to leave your country and your work doesn't involve other languages than it is ok if you don't like learning languages. Nevertheless if you want to fully understand other cultures it is very important as I mentioned above. I think that polish is very hard so if you just study in Poland you should be able to communicate in Polish but I think that proper grammar is not necessary.
3. Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?
Chinese is probably the hardest but I heard that Polish is one of the hardest language to learn. Even Polish people make many mistakes despite the fact that they use this language since they were born
1. The film is quite interesting. I have seen this film before and I was also very interested in the fact that it presents only four principles that you need to follow to learn a foreign language. I always thought it was a difficult matter and here it is presented quite simply. I only wonder how to use it in practice. It is also interesting that polyglot meetings are organized to get to know each other and also to provide each other with methods of learning foreign languages.
2. There is no doubt that English is the most popular language. The ability to use this language enables communication almost all over the world. Although in the world there are such nooks that unfortunately English will not be useful. Polish is one of the most difficult languages in the world. Learning foreign languages should be a pleasure, then it is more effective. If foreigners would like to learn our language, why not?
3. I definitely think that Asian languages like Chinese, Japanese or Korean are the most difficult languages to learn. Both spelling and pronunciation for us Europeans are almost insurmountable.

1. It was very interesting and inspiring video. I also agree with the speaker that way of learning languages makes huge difference on how long it will take us to get to the level of speaking fluently.
2. I don’t think that English is enough to know but on the other hand its hard to say what languages everyone should know nowadays. I don’t think that foreign citizens should learn Polish but if you live in foreign country it is the best moment to learn new language so why not to take advantage of that.
3. It’s hard to say as I haven’t even heard most of the languages but if I would have to pick one now I would chose Chinese

What do you think about this video?
This is a very good video. Here she speaking in brief about the attitude towards the study of languages. In many ways, she is right, I especially liked the fact that she noticed that you need to enjoy the process of learning languages. In general, this video is very relevant for our course as a whole.

Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?
In general, knowing English is very good and convenient today. But it seems to me that having arrived in Poland, everyone should respect the local culture and language. This does not mean that everyone should study it. But to pay attention to some features is very worth it. It will sometimes be necessary to know some basic phrases and words.

Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?
It seems to me that Asian languages are very complex. For example, Chinese. As you can see in the comments, I'm not the only one who thinks so. Most likely it seems to be true.

1. What do you think about this video?
This is a very interesting topic. These kinds of people are very interesting. I guess different people have different topics in interest. I believe if it is interesting to you it is way easier to learn about it. Watching videos like this is a nice way to see through the eyes of another person and see their methods of learning and can be used for learning things other than language too.
2. Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?
It really depends on the type of person that you are, what your interests are and what you do for a living. For some people it is enough to know one language and the world is at a point where even during travel you can find people who can speak in English. It makes life easier when you do know another language, especially when you travel to that specific place constantly. It would be nice if others learned Polish, but sadly it is not always required to learn a second or third language. Also we have to consider that Polish is a hard language to learn. It is up there with Japanese and Chinese and Russian.
3. Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?
All Eastern languages are challenging. Even native speakers make mistakes despite constant use of their language and not being bilingual.
1. It is quite inspiring. She tells about her passion with love what almost makes me take my textbooks and start learning, or at least watch a film in german!

2. In today's time knowing only English is definitely enough, however, being able to speak in many languages definitely opens new possibilities.

3. I know a little Japanese and it proofed really hard to learn. The grammar and vocabulary were easy for me, although the writing was too hard for me and I never rise above a certain level.

I think this video is fine, but I still think that surrounding yourself by the language is the easiest way to learn it. If you can't understand people yet - than switch all your Netflix shows to the language you'd like to learn and turn on subtitles. Even better to watch particular counties production, to get all the accents etc.

I am a foreign citizen and I know Polish. It is actually strange not to start learning Polish, when you know that you are going to spend years in this country. And polish citizens are actually flattered when they hear a foreigner speaking good polish language. So why shouldn't you?

I didn't learn many languages, but I don't have a problem with Slavic and European languages, because they have more or less similar constructs. I think I could handle Hebrew or Arab, but I would't be able to learn any Asian language.

It's individual decision for everyone. Every new language you speak allows you to communicate with people you couldn't otherwise.
Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?
I've heard that Chinese language is the most difficult language in the world.

What do you think about this video?
I partly agree with the speaker, because I also think that presented techniques could be very useful in the proccess of learning new language, but I am not as sure as her that everyone can be a polyglot. I think that as with every other field of knowledge, you must feel the language. Of course, if you learn many hours everyday, you will be perfect with these language, but we can’t fool ourselves – nobody can spend that much time just on learning a new language, specially after finishing school, when you must work daily. I also think that communicating with native speakers is extremely important and can make wonders.

Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?
I think that it is obvious, that just English language can’t be enough for all the places around the world, but in my opinion it is the most important language. Every time when I was on holiday, I was able to communicate with native citizens using English. The only place where I found some difficulties with using English was Hungary, because there people weren’t fluent in this common language, even in such areas as pools or during renting the apartment.
As for foreign citizens learning Polish, I think it could be an interesting challenge, but I am not sure it would be very useful for them, of course depsite persons who are willing to live and work in Poland. Our language is commonly used only here.

Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?
As for what I heard, Hungarian is extremely difficult fot other people to learn, but I didn’t have an opprtunity to even get familiar with this language, so I can’t exactly decide if this is true or not. For me, Chinese and Japanise language are one of the most difficult, specially because of the symbols, which can represent whole sentences, as well as just one word or even one syllable.

1. It's very interesting. I'm currently learning Turkish language, so I'll use some of her tips she gave us in this video.

2. I think it's perfectly enough. Use of English language will only grow in upcoming years, and someday everyone will know it. As for the Polish language, I would say it's useless to know it when you are not living in Poland, so I wouldn't force anyone to do that.

3. My type would be Chinese language, just because there is so many different types there like Cantonese, Fuzhounese and Mandarin.

What do you think about this video?
I am quite aware of learning abilities and preferences and how to do that effectively.
I didn't learn anything new to be totally honest.
Do you think it is enough to know only English? Do you think foreign citizens should learn Polish?
I think it is generally worth to learn other languages. Knowledge of new languages helps you communicate with others not only when you are shopping but also while getting to know other people, maybe future wife or husband. In my opinion foreign citizens should learn Polish :)
Which language do you consider the most difficult to learn?
I am not sure. I don't know all languages so I am not able to compare them. I do believe experts while they are saying that the most difficult languages to learn are for example Chinese and Polish. No mater how complex language is we should learn new language and have fun, development and usefulness from it.

1. It is interesting. I recently started learning French again, I think I could use some of the tips she gave.
2. I think that English is essential these days but sometimes it is not enough. `The knowledge of more that just one language can help get a better job or go study abroad.
3. I think Japanese is very hard. I've been to a few classes of this language in the school and it was a rocket science for me. I gave it up.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
