Week 10 (25.05-31.05) HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

Healthy lifestyle is very popular nowadays. Celebrities, actors, singers etc. show their fans how they get fit and healthy. People want to look like their idols so they are trying to lose weight and eating only bio food. The media promotes the cult of a beautiful body t: muscular  men and slim women.
Really important for our good physical condition is workout but the most important is diet. a lot of people think that healthy and fit food means expensive food. They say "I can't eat healthy, it's too expensive". You can but you should have a plan and be creative.  Of course unhealthy food is more accessible and often cheaper than better for our health alternatives. We can choose  cheaper food that causes dangerous and really expensive medical problems or spend money on fsomething more expensive but good for our mood and of course health. We tend to choose food by looking at a price or calories  but we should pay more attention to nutritional values. People always want to buy the most nutritious  products for the least money.
Vegetables are really good for us. Don't be afraid to choose frozen veggies, they are frozen at peak ripeness so they are a better value and they can be edible much longer. Veggies are rich in minerals and vitamins. They help us to feel better, protect us against colds and prevent disease. Cabbage is food that has cancer fighting qualities, has antioxidant, fiber. Spinach is rich in minerals and vitamins. You should add it to salads. Carrots are a good source of Vitamin A. They have beta carotene that is good for our skin - mainly for sunbathing, raises resistance. Moreover we couldn't forget about proteins. Protein is responsible for a lot of functions in human body: building tissue, cells and of course building muscles. Generally people need protein in their diet to live but if you go to the gym or generally train you’ll need more proteins.
These are exemplary sources of protein.
Eggs
A medium egg has 6g of protein of the highest bio value. Scrambled eggs are a good way to start the day. There are many ways to prepare and eat eggs.
Yogurt
Yogurt is a combination of casein and whey protein. This is protein-rich food good for people who don’t tolerate lactose. You can eat natural yogurt with fresh fruits or cereals. It is better than ready-made fruit yogurts.
Chicken, turkey
The choice of white meat is really good because it has lean protein. It is a really necessary meal to build our muscles. You can eat a lot of this meat when you want to lose weight. Poultry has few calories.
Fish, seafood
is a good source of protein and is low in fat and kcal. Salmon has omega-3 fatty acids that is needed for the health of our heart.

Most people know that fruits are important for our healthy. Eating a lot of vegetables and fruits helps us lose weight. Of course fruits have sugar but it is of course better than sugar in sweets.
Watermelon, for example, is a good source of vitamins: A and C, packed with antioxidants. It contains potassium, magnesium, phosphorus.  Watermelon is a wonderful fruit full of natural values. Bananas  are a great source of carbohydrates, provide potassium for our body and a lot of energy needed to active life. Plums have many micronutrients like vitamin  A, C, K, Moreover they are a source of fiber and carbohydrates. Dried fruit is good but it has a lot of sugar, more than fresh fruits so I am recommend eating fresh fruits.
If you want to get bigger muscles and size or if you are a gym freak then you need more food. It is a kind of fuel for our body. „Eat smart” - if your goal is to be slim and fit your calories kcal should come from fat and protein, not carbohydrates. You should avoid it in your diet. Choose good fat and high protein products.
In addition if you want to be healthy and fit you should work out. There are many ways to exercise. For example, video training is good for the condition of our body. Ewa Chodakowska, Lewandowska, Mel B are trainers who produce video workouts. Just Google them.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByvEUgL_NjE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boGWe5jSN9I
Of course you can training on devices available in the gym or attend to one some kind of fitness training. For example tabata, cross, pilates etc. When we practice we feel better because our bodies produce endorphins - the hormones of happiness
There are a lot of applications that help us to be fit and to fight with the fat. One of this kind of apps is endomondo. It shows us how many calories we burn when we run, rid a bicycle or just walk.
Very important for a healthy lifestyle is sleep. It plays a special role in our life, influences good health and well-being. Getting enough good sleep protects us from physical and mental problems. We have more energy for workout and overall for  daily activities. It gives us greater quality of life. The sleep should be regular and rightly long.
A healthy and fit lifestyle doesn’t belong to simple things but it improves the quality of our life. It has only advantages for us. When we decide to choose this way of life we will feel better than before. It takes only time to get used to the new rules of life.
How about you?
Are you on diet?
Do you regulary visit the gym? Or do some exercises?

Comments

I tried many times to stay healthy and exercise regularly, unfortunately my willness is not so strong. Nevertheless I am absolutely for healthy lifestyle and after some time spent in bad nutrition habit I try hard to come back to normal life. It is hard to find time especially for shopping and preparing meals daily. After work and courses at school I am so tried that it is hard to push myself for physical workout. Fortunately there is one month left to holidays and it seems to be a good occasion to come back to regular exercises at a gym.

I admit that I'm pretty lazy and I'm really not into dieting or exercise. I sometimes make some effort to eat better for a week or two but I'm really picky. I definitely don't think that healthy food is so expensive that people can't afford to eat healthy - vegetables are cheap. Anyway I could never give up on eating pasta or white bread, they are just too good :), and I love to eat fruit (I heard that they are not good for someone on a diet) :). I also can't make myself to eat breakfast that is supposed to be good for you (at least that's what all people say) but I've stopped eating breakfast when I was about 12 -13 years old because I just hate to eat in the morning. I eat 2 or 3 hours after I get up. I'm also not keen on typical gym exercises, I like to swim or ride a bike and I attended dance classes for a while but I could never see myself going to the gym. I tried exercising at home, but it's just so boooring for me. I also hated PE at school and I'm really not into group sports so I'm thinking of signing up for a dance class or yoga once again because I'm aware I should move a bit more. I also try to drive my bike to PJWSTK more often ;) Anyway I feel like my diet is still healthy enough. I'm quite thin but maybe that's just because I eat normal portions and I stop when I'm full (I've meet a lot of people that overeat), it's hard to say ;).

You've said that healthy lifestyle is getting popular right now but I've also seen a lot of the opposite movement all over the Internet. There are a lot of obese people in United States and a lot of activists claiming that being fat is healthy. And I think there is a huge difference between accepting obese people and encouraging people to get bigger. Here are a few articles:

Healthy lifestyle is something that I am trying to stick with. For the past year, though, I was realizing all the bad habits you can think of ;) For around 3 months now I got back on tracks and I am eating healthy and excercising regularly. I hope to get fit back in around next 3 or 4 months. Then there is another obstacle of keeping the desired weight and continuing excercising.

Isn't Ewa Chodakowska getting a lot of negative feedback on the Internet?
Healthy lifestyle is sure easy to popularize, but there is very much marketing underneath it. I believe balance is healthy and I would not recommend anyone sticking to some white meat only / no meat / low fat/carb diet. Plus it's more fun to ear various meals, from seafood to chinese.

Now I'm writing my Master's thesis and I don't have time to cook or to exercise, but I promised myself that I will go back to healthy lifestyle as soon as possible. Normally, I dance few hours per week, do exercises, yoga and try to eat healthy, few times per day. I feel really good when I have time to do all these things :)
This reminds me of Paulina's March presentation about healthy eating :)

As I wrote there, some time ago I decided to eat more healthy food. However, I didn't want to renounce my favourite meals totally, because then I wouldn't feel any joy about eating. I decided to take it slowly, step by step and replace some of unhealthy food with its healthy counterpart, and I'm doing quite well. I drink a lot of water to keep myself hydrated and I don't eat when I'm not hungry. I'm not trying to eliminate all unhealthy food, however - I feeel it's okay to treat yourself from time to time.

As to exercises, I'm totally not a sportsperson - I don't feel any joy about almost any form of sport. However, I have 2 of Ewa Chodakowska DVDs and I try to do the exercises from time to time.
I always try to live a healthy lifestyle. I don't count calories, I don't write down how many times I've been to the gym this week. I just try to eat less and healthy everyday and don't think about it so much because it become normal for me:)

I do exercises but I think that Ewa Chodakowska is not a good example how to do it. You can easily get hurt doing her exercises. I prefer doing Mell B because her fitness program seems to be quite good and effective. I avoid some of products that have too much sugar.
Unknown said…
I heard the same opinion that E.Chodakowska is not good but I did a lot of "turbo spalanie" and I was satisfied with the results. Albeit I am having now better results from my training at the gym and of course diet.

I count kcal. It addicts. I feel bad when I eat more then I "can". Maybe I am a little crazy:) but I like to control it, my weight and look.

I started to have healthy lifestyles in February. I eat healthy and exercising regulary as you and love to see effects. It gives me huge satisfaction.
Unknown said…
yes healthy lifestyle requires of us a lot of sacrifices. Sometimes I don't strong as you. I eat chocolate or some fast food. I think that everything is for people and once in while we can afford to something unhealthy:)
Unknown said…
yes, I think that for heathy lifestyle we must have time. Time to exercises, time to plan the diet, meals, cook. It isn't easy but the results convince us to take up the gauntlet :)

I've never been on special diet. When I have choice, I always prefer to eat fishes, vegetables and wholemeal bread. I eat it because I like it and it's good for me. Generally, I always eat what I want and it makes me happy and healthy, I think :) When I have some time I do exercises, but last months are very hard for me and unfortunately I don't have time for regular sporting activity... I wish to make up that lost time in summer. To follow up on video trainings, my favorite is Mel B. It suits me her motivations and vision of bodybuilding.
Unknown said…
It's true that actually is a trend for healthy lifestyle. According to me it's good and personally I try to eat good, healthy and hight-value food. Despite this I systematically I go to fitness club. I'm working out without Chodakowska or Mel B. fitness program, only myself, sometimes I advice a personal trener. Returning to food, unfortunately I must to agree with you that healthy food is more expensive. For example I prefer to eat smaller portion and full-value meal that e.g. big portion of fast food. The size of meal is not relevant, most important is the value like vitamins, protein and carbohydrates.

you are right. everything in the world is dependent on the money. manufacture makes a market. everyone wants to profit. They are changing fashions in food, lifestyle. I believe that in eating and healthy life you just have to keep restraint.

It is good idea to select what we should eat without special diet. Every diet has advantages and disadvantages.
yes, workouts require from us free time. it is difficult when we have a lot of responsibilities and when we want to exercise regularly
Although it’s sounds like an excuse, healthy lifestyle does require time, which not many people have. Personally, I prefer cycling to gym. To be honest, any kind of outdoor exercise sounds better than gym, to me. I don’t stick to any particular diet. The only thing I did, was to cut out the fast-foods, sugar and midnight snacks. Few years ago I included more vegetables and herbs, including parsley which I love!
Unknown said…
I'm not on any specific diet, but I'm careful about what and how much I eat. Though I'm more concerned about the quality of food that it's type. I'm quite picky.

I exercise at home, but quite irregularly. I definitely prefer to ride a bike. I've similar problem as Paulina – I get bored with this quickly. I don't have enough willpower I guess. And I often have a lot of other things on my head and I just forget to exercise. I also think that holidays are a good occasion to concentrate on regular exercises.
Unknown said…
Uhm, I try to care about myself, but unfortunately it isn’t easy :/ I prefer other form of activity than gym. I like fitness/ Zumba, riding a bike, etc. I've never been on special diet. I try to eat good, healthy food. I don’t eat sweets and other junk foods. I try to drink more and more water and eat more vegetables and fruits. It, unfortunately, not always is easy.

The best example of this "healthy=expensive" thing is going to McDonalds and comparing the price of a cheeseburger and a salad. I know that people don't come to Mac to eat salads, but such approach helps creating these beliefs. Healthy fast foods (salad bars, frozen yoghurt + fruits etc.) are quite expensive when compared to regular fast foods and generally speaking it is not more cost-effective to eat in such places than in restaurants.
In my opinion the thing with eating vegetables is lack of creativity. Polish people are used to a certain meal scheme: a soup (usually cooked for so long that all the valuable stuff gets lost), a piece of meat with some sides (potatoes, rice, sometimes groats) and a small portion of unwanted salad, maybe even just a single salad leaf. There are so many vegetable recipes that are more nutritious than the meal described above! People think that veggies are diet food and that they have to be disgusting. But well prepared they are much more tasty than a given mielony or something else. Some time ago my friend applied to be the teacher at a cooking school for children. The owner asked him what was his idea for the lessons, he answered that he wanted to teach the kids to eat some "disgusting" veggies, such as brussel sprouts or spinach. The owner replied: "but we have already taught them that, we cover brussel sprouts with bacon, butter and cheese and the kids love it." I don't think this is a good approach to this subject, because this is more unhealthy than healthy.
The other thing is that people think that preparing vegetarian meals takes more time than making a regular dinner. It is not true, some delicious vegetarian things can be made in less than 20 minutes.
I try to eat a lot of veggies and fruits (I don't eat much meat), 5 times a day and portions not larger than a handful. My problem is that I don't like unprocessed vegetables and I am hungry when my meal is not hot.
I don't go to the gym, because I find exercising in front of the others intimidating, but I try to walk a lot (more than 7 km per day) and I own (and use!) a threadmill - I like walking/running and watching something, it is far less boring. Boredom is a reason for which I don't like to exercise - I don't have anybody to talk to, I can't focus on anything and the repeatability of the routines irritates me.

I am addicted to exercising and I workout almost everyday. My trainers are Karena and Katrina from Tone It Up. They are great, effective and I highly recommend them to everyone. You can visit they website here: http://toneitup.com/
I try to eat clean and lean. Unfortunately, lately I have been under a lot of stress so I ate lots of chocolate, sweets and junk food. However, I think healthy eating is a bit of my hobby. I love to cook fit meals. My little dream is to start my own blog about healthy lifestyle :)

Under the stress I eat tons of chocolate and junk food. Carbohydrates are making me happy again. I know that isn't healthy at all but I think that some day I might change it. Recently I've joined gym /again/.

To sum up: my healthy lifestyle in 2 words: from tommorow :)

I have a feeling that a healthy life style is a new fashion. Looking at the many people I have feeling that they don`t think what they do. People just doing what anyone tells them that he is healthy. Every few years, nutritional fashion is changing. And we all buy it.
Of course, taking care of yourself is important. But without exaggeration.
Unfortunately I'm not on a diet currently even though I know that I should. Every time I lose weight and become more or less fit I tend to go back to bad habits and slowly regain everything I worked so hard to lose. You are right though, we all really need to pay more attention to what we eat and what we do.
It is also worth mentioning that a lot of things that we think are healthy (many of the low fat products for example) are actually bad for us.
It is also important to learn about things instead of repeating what others say. There are a lot of people who think that gluten-free products are just better and more healthy which is not true for most of the population.

I used to be on a special diet when I was working out in the gym. Healthy lifestyle ended when I got involved in various projects and work initiatives. I did not have time to prepare myself proper meals and I had to resign from gym classes due to spine problems. Each and every week I am trying to come back to eating healthy food, but so far I haven't been very successful with that.

I am not in to healthy lifestyle too much. It is like a pleasant addition to my life. Instead of diets I prefer just normal food without any specific program. Just eat more fresh vegetables, more meat or fish and drink more water instead of coke or other sodas - the best diet you can come up with. Concerning the gym - yes. It is a great way to stay in shape and also can help to relax. I would recommend people think with their own heads and not with trends - just live as it is comfortable to you. There is nothing good with drinking everything that has alcohol and smoking everything that could be smoked, however, there is nothing good in overloading yourself in the gym, coming up some crazy diet and living as if you was a victim of some nazi concentration-camp. Just a balanced life will give you more than you can expect.

I'm totally into healthy lifestyle! Although it used to be very demanding, I've given up on my bad habits and it has become a quite natural thing for me to live a healthy life. I can't imagine even one day without some physical exericses. Even when I've been on my legs for the whole day, I don't omit any planned workout. It pays off. The feeling of satisfaction is even greater with every workout. The proper nutrition is important as well. I used to complain about the lack of time - when I began to change something seriously and decide that I'm not going to give up this time, I've also found time to prepare meals, although I've taken even more duties on my shoulders. I always remind myself the quote "Someone who wants, looks for a way. Someone who doesn't want, look for an excuse.". No more excuses.
Unknown said…
Unfortunately I've got an aptitude to exaggerate. There was a time when I used to eat whatevery I liked, I didn't work out at all. Then, I've decided to changed something and I began refusing everything that is known for being bad to our health. When I say EVERYTHING, I really mean that. I didn't even want to drink one glass of champagne on New Year's Eve because I thought that all of the gains would be lost. Now I try to keep balanced. I follow rules of healthy lifestyle, I exercise about 5 times a week, I eat regulary. But no more thinking that skiping even one workout will ruin all of my previous effort.
Amongst all of these we should take of our sleep length. It's not even about sleeping six, eight, or even ten hours of sleeping, but about stable of hours of sleep. If, for example, we go to sleep at various parts of a day, let's say you go to sleep 8 pm, then u wake up 6 am and take a short nap during the day, then the other day u take a sleep at totally different time of a day, that makes a huge problem. The key to solve the problem of proper sleep and feeling good is to stabilize hours of sleep. For example go to sleep every day at 12 am and wake up at 6 am, keep it going for 2 - 3 weeks at least and take benefits from it!

Haha of course I have been doing some exercises with Ewa Chodakowska and Mel B (but it was 2 years ago, omg the time is so cruel!!!) But now I definitely prefer to go to the gym :) But I agree with you that exercising and eating clean is really important. I also try to remember about enough sleep, as you mentioned. To be honest I can't imagine not sleeping at least 7h a day, sometimes I need to do something and then I don't sleep that much, but my average sleep time is about 7-8h :)
According to eating: as you said – proteins are super important, but also eating fruits and vegetables. My personal goal is now to improve my diet (which in my opinion is not that bad but still can be better) and my main goal is to reduce number of sweets to zero and increase number of vegetables (with fruits I don't have any problem, I eat them almost everyday :D ) .
I'm not on a diet although I constantly try to eat healthy and in amounts that satisfy mu hunger but not overfills my body.
Nowadays I do not attend gym frequently although I'd like to. Hopefully after the end of term I'll have some more time and I'll be able to resubmit my gym membership.
Previously I attended gym frequently at least twice a week, I think it's very important to stay active physically. Not just because of staying in shape, but because it also helps with your concentration and general energy.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
