Week 10 (25.05-31.05) Fantasy convent

Recently  it has become one of the major trends in pop culture. A convent is a place where you can meet to play computer games.  Play  different characters, LARP, talk with writers and take autograph from them. You can wear strange clothes. And of course, meet people from different parts of the world. It is always a few days with a lot of  events and lectures. This is the place where you can learn about the premieres of books and games. Many artists like to show their work during  such events - this is a form of promotion for them. Also you can find there many shows of artistic groups.

Every visitor has a different target.  And everyone can find something interesting for them. This is a perfect place for collectors, gamers and others interested in the field of fantasy. Usually a convent’s program is very diverse to get to many visitors. By the way, you can there  fantasy shops where you can buy many strange things. For me it is a few days almost without sleep. I can spend many hours at  different convent spots.

Participants of such festivals are mainly university and high school students. However, the constantly growing number of parents with children force conventions to begin to organize classes for children. A convent program is really very diverse especially for different visitors and is  quite densely planned.  In my opinion every age group can find something for himself/herself. Usually convents last for  three to five days. You can spend many hours there and do not get bored.

In Poland most popular convents are Falkon in Lublin and Pyrkon in Poznań. Just last year 50 000 people arrived at Pyrkon. And every year there are more visitors.
The first convention was organized in 1939 in USA. It was a since fiction convention. Fans decided to organize similar events in other countries.

I have attended Falkon and Avangarda. I have met friends, played games, watched presentations, bought some stuff and had a lot of fun. I’m definitely coming next year.

I have never been on any convention. I really admire people who are so devoted to being fan of any comic book, game and so on. Nonetheless I heard that such conventions very often became a nightmare. Very often participation is very expensive and far away from expectations. For me it is another well prospering business. But it is good for fans who just want to meet new friends or connect with those they've met online. After all it little bit reminds me about Big Bang Theory which I am the greatest fan.

Same as Cezary I've never been at any convention. I'm not into Polish festivals, although I know a lot of people that go to Pyrkon and say that it's fun, I would like to go to the Comic Con in US instead :) I love to see people dressed up (even though I wouldn't like to cosplay myself) and I always follow the information that is announced at Comic Con so maybe I'll be able to go there once in the future.

Fantasy conventions are nothing new, and I'm not entirely convinced that there was some recent spike in interest. Still, they are quite fun. In my opinion some quality deteriorates in time, but that might be simply new generations irritating the dinosaurs like me.

I have never been to fantasy convention but I think I would like to try and take part in one. There is only one thing - the main theme has to be something really attractive. It would be also nice if the events were longer and not SO crowded. It's good that there are many people interested but I heard that sometimes it is impossible to enjoy the event because of the crowd.
As a geek, I'd really love to go to a convention one day; however, I'd be much more interested in fantasy / sci-fi conventions than the anime / manga ones. Sadly, I missed Polcon when it took place in Warsaw last year, and I'd really prefer to go somewhere near my house than travel to another city.

However, seeing the photos and videos from Polish conventions makes me regret they're not as big and well-organised as ComicCon (as Paulina mentioned), where you can see actors starring in popular TV series, unseen trailers for future movies, amazing cosplays etc. :)

I was at a different kind of convention but most of them were anime and manga. Next year we are going to Colonia to game convention and we will try to go to Pyrkon as well. It is so much fun on this kinds of event but the bigest problem are long queues and some of them can be really dangerous. Conventions are also a good occasion to make a costume or look for people who are in a fancy dress. I admire them how much of an effort they put in their work. It is amazing.

I did not hear earlier about fantasy convent alluding exactly to fantasy world. Perhaps because of fact that I do not play computer games a lot (I like but I do not have a lot of time for this). It sounds interesting for me and I think that the people who love dress up as a characters from theirs favourite games it is amazing experience to feel like in 'real' fantasy world. For example about manga convent I heard about Anime Festival Asia which is traditionally held over a weekend in mid-November. You can read more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anime_Festival_Asia

I've never attend any convention like the one you have described. However, I have attended Łódzki Festiwal Komiksu, which seems to be pretty similar. You can buy a lot of good comic books, play games and take part in some really interesting lectures. For me it was really enjoyable and fun experience.

I've attended many different Polish conventions in my life, both fantasy and manga/anime. I don't go the latter ones anymore because my interest in this subject faded away long time ago, but I still visit fantasy ones. I've been at Pyrkon this year and really enjoyed it. I took part in a few lectures, bought myself a few things (hand-crafted metal pendant and leather pouch), played board games with my friends, met some new people. Oh, and the weather was great. I had a lot of fun in general and I'll be there in 2016 for sure. C:

I never took part in any convention. This is not a topic which I am interested. I prefer sporting events and everything that is sports related. Obviously very impressed me the people who have a passion and meet together for such events to share their interests.

My dream is to take part in Harry Potter’s live action role-playing in Cocha’s Castle. Harry Potter is my favorite fantasy character so that meeting would be a dream come true. I do not know if it is the same as fantasy convent but I have always wanted to attend to Hogwarts. There is still a light of hope in my heart that I will get acceptance letter ;)

By "Play different characters” do you mean to role play them?

I’ve got many friends who are into anime & manga so I’ve heard about Pyrkon and other conventions like this, however I’ve never heard of Falkon - looks like it’s more for fantasy fans - probably some day I’m gonna take part in this event - but, to be honest, I would prefer some world of Harry Potter :)

That’s funny - participants are becoming older and older so you have to prepare classes for their children. I’m thinking if their children do also like manga.

Friend of mine is organising some quizzes about Pokemons on such conventions - he dresses like one of Pokemon’s trainers or even Pokemon - sometimes he even travels dressed like this (that’s strange!).
Are there any international conventions?

I visit these conventions for several years. Personally, I refer the impression that there are more people.

I've never been on any convention. In the these events, I really like make-ups, metamorphosis and costumes of participants :) 5 years ago I met some fantasy fans in Paris on the occasion of Manga and Sci-fi Show. I have photos with different characters, for example Pikachu, Link, Sailor Moon etc. The meeting was very funny :)

I think that on games stand you can find something interesting for yourself.

At this convent I've never been. Maybe someday I find time to visit this convent.

I don't have any experience with the conventions - I don't have such interests, but I really enjoy looking at the photos from these convents. I am impressed with how much effort people put into recreating the costumes and it is obvious that they have a lot of fun. Speaking of the costumes and roleplaying - I recommend this blog about costiumology: http://buduar-porcelany.blogspot.com/

I am not a fan of fantasy convents, however, I really admire people who are so devoted to their hobbys and change them into their lifestyle. It's wonderful to do what you really love and to enjoy yourself with other people who share your interests and worldview.

I have never attended any conventions and I don't really plan on doing that. It's completely out of my area of interests, although, like Paulina and Aneta, I enjoy watching pictures and short clips taken during those events. I admire the time and effort put into creating those costumes. The make-up itself is a form of art worth recognizing.

I really like reading sci-fi and fantasy books, but have never wanted to participate in this type of event. Anyways I enjoy watching videos from fantasy convents. I admire cosplay, especially. It has to consume a lot of time working on such amazing costumes.
I've been thinking about attending such event, it looks like fun. I'm also very glad that those convents exist because it shows other people that RPG, Fantasy, LARP and other things are not only for some strange no-life nerds but for normal people as well.

I am not a big fan of conventions, still I would like to see something like ComicCon, at least to understand what is it and why so many people are in to it. Probably it will be funny to see 2 or 3 Darth Vaders or 100500 clone of wolverine or some masterpieces that really should be seen.

Ugh, I seriously hate that kind of events as I'm not really into fantasy. Let's be honest - I'm not into fantasy AT ALL. But that's great that people do something with their passions, I like that they share it and enjoy it!

Such festivals usually cannote nerds, and even if it's not true, I wouldn't like to participate it. Maybe it's fun for someone, but as good as I know me, I can be sure that it's not a thing for me.

Sorry to say that but this is not my thing. As you mentioned – this is a place for collectors, gamers and other people that are interested in fantasy world. When I was younger I willingly read fantasy books, but I have never heard about fantasy convent (maybe it would have been interested for me? Not quite sure tho :P ) but now I am totally over it and I don't feel the magic of it to be honest...
I've never attended any conventions, be it here in Poland or abroad.
Mainly because something always comes up at the time they are held - like friends that can't go or some responsibilities that I need to take care of.
But I'd love to go sometime in the future, they sound fun and they are a nice place to meet new people with common interests.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
