Week 4 [27.03-02.04.2017] Be mindful and know thyself.

If you are living a modern lifestyle then being stressed and constantly under pressure is not a big deal. Its also as healthy as taking a walk or an evening run through smog filled neighborhood. Its neither good for your body nor mind and those two are what you should equally take good care of. As an old saying goes A sound mind in a sound body, you cannot keep a healthy body without a strong mind. Those two have to come in sync.
Today Id like to introduce you, dear reader, to the mindfulness state. What is it? Well, have you ever wondered what is this voice you are hearing in your head? For example, right now as you read through this text? Do you know where is it coming from? Are you aware of it? Is it you or maybe someone or something else? Mindfulness is all about being aware. Being in the moment. Aware. Of the surroundings, thoughts, feelings, yourself. A little experiment to conduct: next time you are angry at something dont say Ohhh Im so angry!, instead say I am experiencing angriness and observe it. Try it. Any difference?
According to Emma Seppälä at huffingtonpost.com, Being mindful can help in achieving a more peaceful state, sharpen your senses and improve cognitive functions. The research on mindfulness suggests that meditation sharpens skills like attention, memory, and emotional intelligence. There are many benefits.

Mindfulness can be achieved and cultivated through meditation but not only. There are many various techniques and approaches. It all comes to being mindful either way. To be aware. To notice thoughts, experience, to observe
thyself.

Few facts: (0)
A National Health Interview Survey revealed that some 20 million U.S. adults meditate for their health. (1)
Corporations like Google, General Mills, Target, Apple, Nike, Procter & Gamble and AOL offer structured meditation programs for executives and encourage employees at all levels to do it. (2)
Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, and Derek Jeter are some of the more famous athletes who include meditation as a tool in their professional arsenal. (3)

Sounds like some mumble-jumble?
Well, over 1,000 studies have been published proving the health benefits of meditation. (4)
Meditation started to being used worldwide at schools, teaching children to practice meditation calms them down, improves their learning rate and overall results. It is more and more used at workplaces, for example:
Police department meditating before taking their shift. (Canada) - source

Did you know of all the health benefits of meditation, stress reduction is probably the most widely known and readily accepted by both mainstream medicine and the general public?(5)
Over-stress is a killer, it puts you at greater risk for every major disease you hope you never get including cancer, heart disease, depression, Alzheimers, and even premature death. (6, 7).

I encourage everyone to try it, research it. Give it a shot.
Have you ever heard about mindfulness and practice of meditation?
Have you ever tried it or maybe you are a regular practitioner?
What do you think about modern lifestyle? Do you flow with it or rather drown in it?
How often on a daily basis do you have a moment to take a break, stop for a moment and clear your mind?

There was a spike in popularity of meditation about 2-3 years ago when a lot of mobile apps for meditation were created. These apps play the optional relaxation music and give you voice commands for breathing and other things. I haven't tried meditating yet, but I'm going to - modern lifestyle is really stressful and taking time to relax and forget about everything sounds like a good idea.

I have never tried meditation. I haven't got opinion about it but I don't say no. Personally I prefer phisical activity. I noticed that when I cycle alone long distance I meditate in a way. I clear my mind. I have thought about people who go fishing. They spend the whole day fishing and don't take fish home. I personally don't go fishing. But I sometimes go with my friends, I don't e do anything just sit and it is nice. I read that people who go fishing are in the state of meditation.

I have heard a lot about this kind of practice, but I have never tried to do it seriously. I don't treat it as serious solution to everyday problems. Personally I rather spending time in an active way to clear my mind and take a rest.
In my opinion this kind of lifestyle is just a new trend and it'll pass after some time.
I'm trying to find a moment everyday to take a rest and relax after whole day.
For me mediation was always equal to exhaustive training. For some time now I cannot train anymore, for health reasons, and I surely noticed that I am much more stressed person than I used to be. Maybe I will try meditating? Half a leaf is better than nothing, i guess.

I heard about meditation but I admit that I don't know anything about it. I think that meditation isn't used in Poland. I would like to try meditation. The fact is that people don't have free time. Today, career is more important than health. For me it's stupid.

Oh my God! I recently read about this, because friend of mine said that thanks to it I won't be stressed in the morning "Did I close the door?", "Is an iron on?".
The truth is that I'm very busy for the whole time and for the whole time there is something on my mind and I'm not too focused on my daily basis - I've got rutine, and if I manage to do all of it I'm calm, but if there will be anything different I'll be stressed for the whole day.
Now I know that I really should try it!

There's plenty of such apps, they are supposed to "help" but you just have to try it yourself. With or without them :)

Yes! There are many forms of meditation. It doesn't have to be just sitting. You can take a walk or do a simple task and clear your mind, become aware, mindful.

Well, you might say meditation is just as old as humanity, waay before "year zero" for sure. It will stay for longer. As a trend in "our" western culture though, it is something rather new and might "burn out".

If u struggle practicing meditation then you are doing it right ;)
Unknown said…
I highly recommend to try it, "mind and body equally" :)

I know lack of time is very troublesome, organizing what's left of it is even more but maybe try something like:
In the morning try to meditate/be mindful for a minute.
The next day try it for two minutes.
Next three minutes, next four and so on untill you feel comfortable with with time spent on it. Little steps over time.
Clearing your mind by relaxing activity is very important, and I'm always trying to have at least an hour or two daily doing things that are fun to do for me, such as playing video games. However, I'm not prone to being stressed that much, I'm rather taking everything easy and always being rational, so unless something comes as a surprise in a way that I'm not capable of foreseeing it, usually I'm very calm and focused.

Meditation is nice, as it can help to limit stress and stay calm, but I wouldn't say that it's the only way to help yourself, or that it's the only "true" way. Everybody has something he/she enjoys doing, in my case it's playing video games - it's more like a matter of finding activity you like, and making it your daily routine, even if only for an hour.

I never try medidation because I don't know where I should start. I would have to do some reasearch on this subject. For me, some kind of meditation and silence are walks without a goal. On such a walk it is easier to gather thoughts and for that, the advantage is that you can move around. I have a sitting job so it's important for me to move a lot.

I have never tried it and to me it would be a bit waste of my time. Instead, I enjoy being active, both physically and mentally so I do not think this type of thing would be for me. I gather thoughts before I go to sleep or when I sit on my balcony, but I don't spend too much time on it, because I prefer to take action.
I have never tried normal meditation in a group or anything else - I don't have time for it and don't like this kind of group meeting, they're not relaxing for me. As my piece minder I'm finding good waterfall Whitenoise on my headphones and then I stop from doing anything just to clear my mind and reset. It's a good relaxer.

Also once, twice a week there is a shooting range. It's quiet when you're wearing ears protection and you're just there yourself with your mind and your gun - it's my meditation :)
1) Have you ever heard about mindfulness and practice of meditation?
Yes I have. I am really interested in this topic. I have read many books about meditation and practically, I do meditation everyday.

2) Have you ever tried it or maybe you are a regular practitioner?
I became a regular practitioner after my first try.

3) What do you think about modern lifestyle? Do you flow with it or rather drown in it?
I like modern lifestyle, but I always find a moment to take a break and clear my mind. Meditiation is really fun!

4) How often on a daily basis do you have a moment to take a break, stop for a moment and clear your mind?
Like I said before, I always find a moment for this. It helps me to get my daily tasks done, because meditation keeps me focused.

Yes I have heard about mindfulness and meditation but I have never tried. I prefer active, physical sport on fresh air. It helps me to forget about everything, clear my mind and exhaust my body.It improves my sleep as well. Unfortunately I don’t have much time for myself lately.
I heard about meditation on my karate lessons, but I'm not a regular practitioner. I train, and it is my way to clear my mind, and reduce stress. I was born in a small town, and even though I'm living in Warsaw for most of my live I'm still not used to big crowd. Also it is hard for me to live in a constant rush all the time. Modern lifestyle is not for me, I would rather move to countryside. It is hard for me to find time in the week for a break, let alone to train. But I'm trying to exercise every other day.

I heard about meditation a lot. Everyone who talks about it says that meditation changed his or her life and brought more self-understanding, energy and power in life. Personally, I've tried a couple times follow some meditation instructions on YouTube, but it didn't turn out good. I guess, I did something wrong, I don't know :) Maybe it's just not the right time for me to start meditating, but definitely, I want to try. I want somebody to explain to me how to find this state of relaxation and clear mind.

One my friend practises meditation and she said it's worth to try. I always thought that it's not for me, because I can't sit for a long time in one place doing nothing and just thinking or better to say clearing your mind. However, modern busy life is stressful for me, so I'm seriously beginning to consider taking up meditation.
I have heard about meditation but i haven't tried it and I don't want to. I don't care about modern lifestyle and I want to live on my own with my own rythm. As a person I'm very introspective, I think about what I'm doing, what I want to do next, analize every situation, I don't meditate but I clear my mind at evenings, trying to relax and chill

My boyfriend recently sarted being interested in this topic. After reading some 'tutorials', articles about techniques he started meditating and... he stopped. Just to read a book about how to do it properly, cause it's not just sitting and not thinking about anything. It's observing yourself as if you were not in your body, as if you were not... you.
I'm trying to flow with a modern lifestyle but for the moment I'm rather drowning. I'm still trying to figure out how to work, study, learn at home and still have the time to rest. But resting for me is not sitting on 9GAG for 2 hours, it's wasting time, not resting. I'm still trying to find my best way to rest.
I have heard a lot about meditation, how it changed someone's life and even cured from terrible illnesses. A couple of times I tried to repeat this experience myself with the help of video in the Internet. Unfortunately, I was not much attracted to it, probably because I was terribly uncomfortable and even a little bored. Maybe when I will be older and wiser, then I'll understand the beauty of this, but for now, I prefer other methods of relaxation.

For me medition is waste of time. I prefer to do something interesting and dont waste my time on spend time in silence. For me people can practise medition by im not going to do this and for my this make no sense.
Bartosz Łyżwa said…
1) I have already heard about those techniques
2) I've never tried it but it seems very interesting so maybe I'll try it.
3) I'm rather going forward with modern lifestyle but I like to slow down sometimes.
4) I think it's 3-4 times per day but it depends on intensity of day.

I've never tried it but after reading this article I think I should try cause I definitely need to find something to de-stress.

I have heard about those but i haven't tried it, because i never needed to. Modern lifestyle is ok for me i guess, but sometimes i like to take a break and for example take a nap instead meditating as the latter appears more time wasteful. It really helps me on daily basis.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
